I have a 1976 super beetle. I bought it and drove it from Baltimore, Maryland to Pahrump Nevada and it was running fine. Just start was kind of difficult and it needed a new switch in the ignition to make a crank over. I brought my car over to them to look at these things, and they insisted that it was leaking oil, and that the engine rebuild. I went ahead and had the rebuild done. Thanking that they were correct and that the vehicle would fire right up after that. Since I have gotten it back, the vehicle has not ran correctly. The first thing they did was only hand tighten the bolts on the oil pan and only put one bolt in there the car Has constantly been dying every time we stop. And spewing oil out all over underneath the hood. They tried to tell me that a tower was bad or something, but they went ahead and did some things to it and quit spraying oil. For a little bit, I took the vehicle somewhere else to have it checked out. They're the ones that fix the oil pan, but the vehicle was still spewing oil. I found another guy that knows Volkswagens inside and out and asked several other people, and they were telling me that the rods were too tight so I took it to another guy and he found that they had tighten the rods too tight causing a spring break and please note I've had it towed at least six times Since they rebuilt it. With a freshly rebuilt engine should not have any of these problems. So I absolutely would not recommend them to anybody. Please be careful they got over $7000 for me. I am having the engine rebuilt again right now to fix everything that they did wrong, it's turning out to be a lot every time. I tell them about something that went wrong. They pretty much blame it on me. read more

Phil Rogers told me he knew exactly how to repair a reluctant starting problem for my 1971 Volkswagen Westphalia. After paying for four new parts (including one incorrect part), and three hours of his expensive time, he told me that the job had "kicked his ass" but that it should now start. After paying his bill, the car would NOT start, and he would hear nothing of a refund or even a small adjustment. The complete failure of his repair was on me, and additionally he could not figure out how to reattach multiple wires he had disconnected. This left me without brakes, turn signals nor running lights. This added another $225 to my loss, which a different vw shop had to correct. I took him to court where he lied to the judge, cementing his reputation as an irresponsible, incompetent liar. Phil Rogers is a failure in so many categories. BEWARE! read more

Phil at Doghouse repair is the most honest mechanic I have ever met. I had purchased a rebuilt engine from him online and I later delivered my 1979 Super Beetle to him for the swap. He contacted me the next day and advised me he could repair the engine in the car and that I did not need the replacement engine I had already purchased. I had the car back 3 days later running like a top and he saved me at least $1500. He could have done the engine swap ( like most mechanics would have) and I would have never known the difference. ordered a type IV seal from him for a bus. Also sent him a photo of what I needed, and specifically the cheap version that I did not want under any circumstances. He said he had the good one in stock at his location, and sent me a link to the photo of it. I asked him to go get it and verify that it was the correct one. He said yes I have it - send me the money. I sent him the money, a good 50% more than others were charging for the cheap version because I wanted the better version, and he shipped me the cheap piece of crap seal anyway. When I contacted him about it he said essentially, tough, talk to my warehouse it isn't my fault and I never heard from him again. Be careful with this business. I would not trust him. read more

If I could give this asshole negative stars, I would. Went in a few years ago to order a dual carb setup for my '68 westfalia camper bus. Told Phil ( the owner) I wanted a set of 40mm carbs for my 1776 motor. He insisted I could put 44's on it. I told him that was too much. Long story short, I bought the fucking 44's. Guess what? I went in for an estimate on repairs for my VW beetle engine. First: I ask for a contract regarding the work I want done. He shows me a receipt for a completed job. I said I would appreciate a contract. He proceeds to write down an "estimate" on a post-it note and tells me it may not be accurate because he is unsure of "unforseen" repairs i may need. Second: I say what happens if the time frame you are giving me is wrong and it takes longer to repair than you guess. He said there is no warranty. Third: I ask how payment is handled. He said in "thirds". So I pay a third of an unknown amount and give you my car? THIS PLACE REEKS OF SCAM!!!! I told him I would consider it, he said " I know its scary". I learned his name after as he never bothered to introduce himself. DON'T BOTHER COMING HERE!! HE CLEARLY DOES NOT NEED BUSINESS. read more

I told him that's not what I ordered and he insisted I was wrong and wanted 20% restocking plus return shipping for his mistake. It is so nice to buy parts from a business that not only has vast knowledge of the products they sale. But use those products in the vehicles they repair.
