Great experience! We brought our dog to Acadia Woods to have one day of non dog activities in the park. The staff were so wonderful and caring and made sure our dog was well cared for. It was a relief to know that our little buddy was having a great day with the staff of Acadia Woods while we were out, especially since she can be a little bit sensitive and shy. I have boarded my animals with Acadia Woods for more than ten years and have nothing but wonderful things to say! My dogs happily run to the front door and barely bother to look back at me. Today I took my Choc Lab Bailey to spend a few hours here while I hiked some of the ladder and rung trails in Acadia NP. I had an excellent experience, dropping Bailey off at about 8:30am and I picked her up at a little after 3pm. The young lady that checked her in was very kind, and Bailey was taken outside as soon as she was checked in. I did leave a couple toys with her which they gladly accepted. When I arrived to pick Bailey up they greeted me as I walked in by saying "here to pick up Bailey?" She also made a comment about a few of Baileys cute behaviors. I don't care if this is just something the business does to flatter their customers, because it shows me that they pay attention to detail, and seem to really enjoy their work. I couldn't have been happier with today's service. I was quite surprised to come here to leave a review and see the previous reviews. I would have certainly not been confident bringing her there had I seen those first. While I have no insights on grooming, I believe the new ownership has addressed the previous concerns and I would take Bailey back again without hesitation. I should have read over more reviews before I took my dog there. Awful job was done to my dog. She literally shaved the hair off my dogs back side and down her legs and other random places on her body. She is a mess and it will take over a year to get some of her fur back. I don't know if she put on a blind fold to do the job or what she was thinking. My poor dog was so traumatized she wouldn't come near us all day, when she finally did and I could look her over I was soooo angry at the mess she made of my dog. Worst grooming I have ever seen. Would never take any animal to her place again. It has been weeks of trying to even out the mess she made of her. Do not leave a pet there to be groomed, you will regret it.! read more

My dog is an escape artist and They had multiple set ups for different types of dogs. My dog was put in a covered run, and they had a fenced in outdoor area for dogs more acclimated to that. Reading the reviews-- I don't think people understand what a kennel is. It's not a puppy daycare per say and some dogs get anxious in unfamiliar areas, with people they don't know, especially if they just travelled hours for your vacation ‍. They don't know what's going on. I would suggest finding a family member to babysit if they aren't comfortable in this sort of setting. In conclusion, you shouldn't give a bad review for something that is out of their control. I on other hand, went for the first time, as a local, and rented out their training room for an hour FOR 10$ total for both my dogs!! The space is perfect and clean and the woman drove out during her day just to unlock the doors (as winter times in this area are a bit slower) for me. Everything I expected. Don't leave your pets at Acadia Woods Kennel. We entrusted our 17-year-old, male Lhasa apso to their care when we visited Bar Harbor from Massachusetts. First impression when you pull up is the for sale sign at the property. Should have taken that as a bad omen. The incorrigible old hag that we entrusted our dog to was completely disinterested in anything we had to say about him, his habits, or his dietary needs. She declined to take his dog bed, special treats, then lectured us that a couple food in the morning, and evening is too much for a 20-lb dog that we've taken care of for over 17 years! 36 hours later, we received a phone call that he wasn't eating, couldn't get up, had soiled himself, and we should come pick him up.... Apparently he had slipped on the slick concrete floor, and laid it his own filth until they found him in the morning and called us at 7:45. He had open sores, worn through his skin on his contact points of his elbows, heels and shoulder. No mention or explanation of the bleeding or how he developed sores. 24 hours later, the dog is still shaking and not eating. A trip to the local vet may be next... read more

Our dogs did both a day boarding and an overnight while we were visiting Acadia. We found the staff to be very accommodating and friendly. The kennel was clean and our dogs returned to our care in good spirits. The cost is fair. For our two dogs it was about $40 for day boarding and about $50 for the over night. We would certainly use this service again. read more

Almost didn't leave our dog here because of the reviews here, but reviews in other places were good so we went ahead. Had a great experience with them. We were visiting Acadia for a week, and had one day when we needed to leave our 7-month-old puppy. All the people we interacted with here were friendly and helpful. They were very responsive and flexible upfront when we were trying to plan our visit and didn't know exactly when we'd need to leave her. She ended up being there overnight and most of the next day, about 24 hours. When I picked her up, she was perfectly happy with the staff, and seems to have done very well. If you're visiting the area and need a place to temporarily leave your dog to do non-dog-friendly activities, I recommend them highly. read more

First, I would like to say it is really difficult to determine the standing of this business through yelp, as it appears the only review that is not filtered is a negative one. To yelp, I'm not sure what's going on there. In any regard, as there was little to go on, I called the Kennel the week prior and asked about day boarding for our 16lb family member. Jennifer cheerfully answered the phone and explained about the day-boarding and that she would not require a reservation. Just to bring our dog in. When we arrived, the facility looked clean. Dogs were outside in individual runs/fenced in areas. When we went inside, we waited a minute and were greeted by Christopher. We talked for a bit, and asked him if we could see where the dogs stay for day boarding. Each dog has it's own inside area, with a guillotine door to a fenced in area outside. The area looked clean, and she would be safe in her own area. We left for our boat trip and arrived back at the kennel at 4:45. Christopher again greeted us. He got Lily and she was happy and excited. He gave her a great review and said he took her around with his rounds as it was a slow day. Overall, we were quite happy and will use them if we need to board her for the day for some reason on next year's vacation. read more

We left our dog here for day boarding so we could hike one day without him. I called ahead and they let me know it was first come first serve. We got there right before they opened and the woman was very accommodating and sweet as I am an anxious dog mom. My pup tends to get into trouble (escaping, starting fights with other dogs, resource guarding, etc) she said he was well behaved! The price was right too. I would recomend. read more

I chose this place for proximity but I don't recommend it. When we checked in our dog, which is like our child, he was placed in a kennel without water or a bed. We left him a towel we had in the car but he was parched when we got him back, even though we offered to leave him water but were told not to enter the kennels and that she would do it. The receptionist/kennel worker told me he could not interact or play with any other dogs, even though he is friendly and up to date on records. It seems to me they just aren't staffed or equipped for these services, I know because I used to work in a kennel and you have to have the space and supervise them. There was only one staff member doing everything and when I asked her if the dogs go out for a walk she hesitated and shifted her gaze. It seems like the dogs take turns outside, which consists of a kennel with gravel floors, no grass. We were happy to get our dog back but I could tell he didn't really enjoy it. Terrible experience and we will never go back. Other reviews were correct, owner is rude and obnoxious but so is the manager. Last year when my sister's dogs were boarding there, they came back smelling of urine. Wish we did more research into the place but she was desperate. We doubt anyone is there between their morning and afternoon hours and I can't image how many hours the dogs need to sit and wait through the night to get out to relieve themselves. Dogs get nothing special for the high costs you need to pay. Again, wish I did more research. HORRIBLE. We took our rough collie to be bathed and groomed, specifically requesting no trimming of feet, which was already in our file from his last visit. This time however, according to "Kille", the groomer got "consumed in his grooming", and shaved his legs up to the 2nd joint, making him look ridiculous. Cost is on par with daycare near home. Our dogs couldn't wait to get inside when we got there and always gave the staff lots of kisses when we picked them up. Very flexible, they took our girls at the last minute the first time we went. Owner was helpful with suggestions of pet friendly places to take them. read more

My family stayed in Bar Harbor and it was such a great relief to be able to go camping and have our dogs close by when they could not stay in the tents with us at night. We were able to take our dogs out hiking with us during the day and then bring them back in the afternoon so we could go out and enjoy dinner without worrying about our dogs in a hot car. Would definitely recommend keeping your dogs here and will board our dogs here again if we stay in Bar Harbor in the future. read more

Please take some honest advice and never board your dog or cat there. We made reservations to board our dog and made special arrangements to have her housed in a larger kennel space. We also asked about walks and the owner said, "Yes, they are walked 2 times a day." When we arrived to board her, the owner tells me, "Oh we overbooked so we'll keep your dog behind our front desk." The place was cramped, filthy and disgusting. She also tells me if you want to have your dog walked, you need to pay extra. There was no way our dog was going to be cared for by her. This place is absolute garbage. I left my dog there for less than 24 hours and the place LOST HIM!! Well, the woman who was at the front when my husband and I went to pick him up the next morning insisted for about 10 minutes that she did not have him. She told us that someone came and got him the day before...blah blah. We were like, "UM WHO, THAT's OUR DOG!!" AGAIN, SHE INSISTED for about 10 minutes that he was not there. It was only when I started hysterically crying, shaking and almost threw up on the floor that she decided to check the back - where she found him sitting in his cage. She said somehow he had gotten checked out of the computers and told us he was entered as in for "day-care", when that was never the case. He was there for an overnight boarding stay. When I saw him I fell to the floor and hugged him, told her we would NEVER be back and how unprofessional it was of her to say something so awful to a dog owner. Like, "Oh, by the way we gave your dog away to a random person while you're on vacation and don't know the area or anyone in it!!!" We asked her if she had been joking the whole time because we were so completely shocked and dumbfounded by this. She said she would "never joke about something like that." (??!) All I can think of is that there must have been 2 dogs with the same name that day and that's how this happened. My husband and I were so upset over this ordeal we had to cut our trip to Acadia short. Even typing this I just can't believe her. Who would do or say something like that without checking first!!?? Let alone after 5, 6, and 7 minutes go by of us standing there crying and insiting he is there. Oh, and she waited on someone else in the middle of all this also. Just appalling. The sad thing is, I felt toally comfortable at first leaving our dog there. The place was very clean and the man who checked us in seemed like he knew what he was doing. I am new to living here in the area, but have been boarding and grooming our three dogs at Acadia Woods for about eight months. I find the care to be excellent, and they keep them together always in the same kennel. The gentleman who is usually tending the kennel is particularly great with the dogs. Yikes, what a negative tone from Endo! We have used Acadia Woods for 10 years. Jennifer and her team are good to the dogs, walk them in the woods (if the owner wants), and treat them just fine. We pick up our golden in the morning around 10 (after she's been fed), walk the Park and the environs during the day, and bring her back by 3 (so she can eat again). Our puppy always runs out to see us when we get her and eagerly runs back in after our day. We have the evenings to ourselves and feel that this is a great way to bring the pooch and still get some quiet time to go out to dinner. A great way to vacation with your dog. read more

Potential boarders may want to know that although Acadia Woods advertises indoor outdoor runs, they actually do not allow the dogs access to the outdoor runs or playyards after 5 pm . Apparently, they have determined that feeding the dogs supper at 2:30 in the afternoon and allowing them a final play before being closed in until 7 am the next day poses no issues for the pets in question. Seems more to me like they want a convenient work schedule. I refused to leave my dogs there and protested the no access issue and was treated by the owner as if I were a dog pampering fool. On top of that, she refused to refund my money - even though the gentlemean who took my reservation had insisted that if I wasn't happy when I arrived, that of course, they would not keep my initial $100. (I had questioned the other negative reviews and was told it was a disgruntled competitor who was leaving the bad reviews ) . SO although I actually never left my dogs there, but used Salt Breeze Kennels in nearby Sullivan Maine instead, I can NOT recommend Acadia Woods at all. I don't normally write reviews but my experience at Acadia Woods Kennel was so negative that I would be remiss to ignore it and not inform other animal owners who may choose to use this kennel's services. I had gone to the kennel to have my dog's nails trimmed a couple of times prior to my most recent visit. The staff was okay and did an average job of nail trimming. On this past visit, they did not have a groomer and the owner said to come in and she would do the trimming. From here on in it was a nightmare. The owner literally manhandled my very easy to handle older dog, ordered me to hold her on the table and then yelled at me when I wasn't doing it correctly. After saying she had a lot of experience cutting nails she cut my dog's quick three different times and made nothing of it. In all my years of having my dog cared for I have never run into this complete disregard for an animal with a business who individuals trust to respect, care for, and keep animals safe. If the kennel owner treats animal like this while the pet owner is present I would be deeply concerned as to the treatment of my animal while it is being kenneled and I am not there. I wish I had read the other reviews regarding the owner of Acadia Woods and their behavior prior to taking my dog there. read more
