    Ari - Grooming @ DrD
    Azra J.

Whenever I get excited after a good service or disappointed after a bad one, I want to write a review. If I do not do it right away, I do not do it at all. Maybe it is the right time to start since I just moved to a new city and am already relying a lot on other people's reviews when looking for different services. That is how I ended up going to Dogs R Dogs for grooming. The place had the best ratings (4.5 starts) out of the closest grooming places to zip code 77006, and the prices on their website seamed relatively cheep comparing to what I experienced before (small dogs grooming and bathing starts at $25). When I called on Thursday (1/17) to schedule an appointment, they told me that the price for maltipoo is $45 and I did not have a problem with it. They were not able to schedule the appointment for Saturday (1/19) but they had available appointments for Friday and Monday but these days just did not work out for me so I scheduled for Friday, January 25. When I came there, the groomer opened the door and his first question was "What are we doing today?". I told him I have an appointment for grooming and bathing for my maltipoo Ari and he said something like he knows but how do I want his cut done. I showed him one of the pictures of Ari and said that I do not want his hair to be shorter than in that picture. Then he started talking about mats on Ari's legs which I did not brush out. He would get mats and I, as a nonprofessional groomer, was able to brush out. I wish I have done that with mats on his front legs too. He told me that he will not be able to brush it out and that Ari's front legs will have to be shaved, and that the rest of his hair is fine. What really bothered me is his attitude. I do not like when someone talks about me in third person when I am present. I was talking to him, and he would talk back to the girl at the reception, who was really pleasant by the way, like I am not there. I would tell him something, and he will turn to her and say "I do not know how she wants me to unmat his hair..." Hello, I am right here!!! Anyway, he might be the best groomer to anyone else but two of us definitely did not click. When the groomer left with Ari, the girl at the reception told me that he is really good and will try to demat dog's hair so that his haircut does look weird. The other thing is that I was told that Ari will be ready in an hour and a half, or two hours the most if the groomer needs to work longer to demat hair, and that they will call me when he gets ready. Three hours and 15 minutes later I called them to see how much longer it will take. They told me Ari will be ready in 15 minutes. When I came to pick him up, the third person brought me Ari. That was unusual for me because whenever are I took Ari for grooming in Virginia/DC area, the groomer would give me the dog back and tell me how he was and what was done. Ari's front legs were shaved of course so I do not understand why it took two hours longer then estimated. I do not appreciate when someone does not value my time. I might have other plans and expect that service will be done in estimated time. They also asked you about the tip, which is normal and I usually leave it even when I am not satisfied with the service. Ari's haircut was not bad (picture attached) but the groomer's attitude was to me. Even if he was the best groomer in the city, I am definitely not going back again. There is Gizzie's right next to Dogs R Dogs and they have great reviews too, so I might give them a try next time. It was very cute seeing dogs next to the window walking freely when I passed by.

My work schedule can be a inconsistent and PD walks has been so helpful and flexible when we need it. Not to mention, Coach loooooves her and is so tired after a long play day. She also sends pictures and videos from his day, so I know he is taken care of and loved. They have been the best to work with, and I would recommend to anyone! They are THE place to trust with your fur baby. Update- we've been using pdwalks for some time now, and has continued to be the best daycare option for Coach. I was seriously concerned that we wouldn't be able to leave him alone ever again, but Elena knew what to do, and encouraged us to patiently stick with the program. I've been bringing my dogs here for years first my late dog, and now my current miniature schnauzer. If you look back at my previous review photos, you'll see the PERFECT schnauzer cut they used to do. Consistent. Professional. Distinguished little gentleman energy. Recently though, scheduling became nearly impossible. Every conversation sounded like: "Let me confirm if our groomer is actually working that day..." After weeks of trying to coordinate schedules, my schnauzer's hair got longer than ever. He loves wearing shirts, so yes, he had some matting. I paid extra for de-matting and gave very clear instructions: shave the skirt, but keep a full beard along with his chest and paws fluffy. Y'all... when I picked him up, I genuinely did not recognize my own dog. He walked in looking like a miniature schnauzer and walked out looking like a scrappy chihuahua named Peanut. They shaved EVERYTHING. His entire body, his face, even his whiskers. HIS WHISKERS. WTF. I know hair grows back and thankfully it's summer, but I honestly felt bad for him. As someone with longer hair myself, if somebody sat me down and buzzed me to the skin without warning, I'd probably need emotional support and a hoodie for a month. My dog still seems happy and unbothered, but I'm traumatized enough for both of us. After years of loyalty, this was incredibly disappointing and totally unacceptable. We will never come back..

At the time, Pop Tart and I had known each other for only about a month. I was still potty training her, I knew very little about her previous training and I had no idea how she would behave around other dogs. She was sweet, but I live in Downtown Houston, and downtown life frightened her. That random recommendation from a stranger was a blessing! Today, all I have to say is, "Do you want to go to school?" Pop Tart immediately knows what I mean. We drive there with her window down, she recognizes the route and she can barely wait to get out of the car. Once inside, she makes a point of greeting every single member of the front office staff before she is escorted back to play. The shy dog I adopted has become confident, social and playful... a little bit bossy! Pop Tart plays well with big dogs, small dogs and takes every opportunity to zoom. For those of us who live in downtown apartments, having a safe, consistent place with both indoor and outdoor play areas is invaluable. I love that the wood fence protects the dogs from being watched or triggered by the street. BLDH has also become an important part of our community. I have met other pet parents through the business and some of our dogs now have play dates outside of school. Her 'classmates' even came to Pop Tart's birthday party! ***My entire family follows BLDH on social media because everyone feels invested in Pop Tart's days there. And they're obsessed with the content.*** The quality of care is deeply personal. Everyone knows Pop Tart. They send photos, communicate quickly and call whenever something is off, whether she has an upset stomach or has rolled herself in chalk!!! Kerry is easy to reach by email and is often available to talk in person. The daycare team is first class. We have also used training, grooming and boarding. Angel is an excellent trainer who provides detailed updates, thoughtful advice and homework that has helped both Pop Tart and me. Pop Tart now walks beautifully on a leash, can sit, lie down and stay, and I know how to redirect her when necessary. Cris has somehow managed to get her to enjoy bath time. When work emergencies have happened, BLDH has even accommodated last-minute boarding requests. That has been HUGE for me! I love that the business is locally owned, cage-free and genuinely designed around the comfort of the little dogs. Boarding dogs sleep on beds, not in cages. The online booking system is easy, the events calendar helps me plan my schedule and their social media updates about activities and last-minute grooming availability are useful. They also offer thoughtful extras, including CPR classes and lower weekend daycare rates. I do not trust anyone else to watch Pop Tart when I am away. BLDH gives her fun, exercise, structure, affection and a place where she feels completely at home. They give both of us individual attention and I truly believe they care about our lives, not simply our business. These are dog lovers who get paid to love our dogs. That is what makes this place so special.
