I want to give a BIG shoutout to Houston Dog Ranch for taking such good care of Koda while boarding! He looks AMAZING after his bath and deshedding!!!! He had so much fun playing and making friends! He got treats, hugs, kisses and lots of playtime! He is worn out today!! They did a fabulous job!! I've heard so many horror stories about pets when they escape boarding or sitters and are never seen again .... Let's just shut a dog away for hours and he/she will learn? Absolutely laughable. It's just their way of putting the noise level down, but hello this is a kennel! dogs bark! The staff at the Houston Dog Ranch is amazing! I boarded my dog for a week in February when I was out of the country. My dog has anxiety/allergy issues and ended up aggravating some hot spots while I was away. The dog ranch contacted me with concerns and sent me photos of his itchy spots. They arranged for him to have a medicated bath and called me with daily updates on his status. One of the staff members was a veterinary assistant and recommended to have his areas shaved to prevent further irritation, which really helped. The staff went above and beyond to ensure my dog was well cared for and even sent a team member out to purchase a soft cone collar for my pup. When we picked him up, he was happy and areas were healing well. I felt so helpless being abroad with my dog in pain, but the Dog Ranch made sure he was well loved and cared for. I dropped our two dogs off for the first time for a weekend stay. They were happy, healthy and clean. When I picked them up three days later both dogs were filthy, they reeked of urine and were clearly distressed. The staff was oblivious. When I pointed out how disgusting they were a woman said "we can give them a bath if you'd like". I declined, wanting to get away from there. I was lucky that my regular groomer could take them in immediately and bathe them, because I couldn't bring them home in that condition. On top of everything else, they've both had diarrhea since they came home. I now have to have my car detailed because of the stench, my carpets cleaned and prob a trip to the vet. This is the best place I have ever boarded my dog. It is EXTREMELY nice. The customer service is fantastic and I am so confident in the care they give my dog. I was so shocked the first time I visited because it is quiet?????????? When I mentioned they said yes, if a dog is barking they are probably stressed and stressing out the other dogs so they address it when it starts. AMAZING. ALSO this is the only place I've ever boarded my dog that she doesn't come back all crazy and weirded out. It is also expensive, but for the peace of mind that my girl is so well taken care of while I'm gone it is more than worth it. read more

I love this place! The caregivers are excellent. My standard poodle was there over a week. Unfortunately, I dropped her off with all her meds and the beginnings of a new ear infection. When I picked her up, her ear was clear as bell! They made sure to give her all her meds. She had 3 play times a day, it's a little expensive but well worth having her happy and adjusted when she got home!! They gave me a detailed report card of each day! They even called when she was adjusting the first day and wouldn't eat. The BEST!! read more

This is one of the best boarding places I have taken my dog. (Warning: it's pricey) My dog got his own cabin which had a private yard. I added two 20-minute play sessions per day so he could get out of his cabin area and run around a bit. The play yards are very big, grassy areas. For play time, an employee takes your dog out and plays with them one-on-one. The service and facilities are awesome, so you definitely get your money's worth. The employees are great and made me feel very comfortable when I left my dog and picked him up. (Usually I am really worried when I leave my dog in boarding facilities.) What I really love about Houston Dog Ranch is that they gave me a report card at the end of his stay which showed his daily status. That gives me much more peace of mind! I docked one star from my rating because the one thing that I wish Houston Dog Ranch could provide is daycare for my dog while he is in boarding. They told me that their daycare has been full for years now. Too bad. read more

this place way overpriced and over promise. claimed they could rehabilitate my dog in a week plan. I was excited to work with them because we have 4 dogs and was willing to pay for "pack" training. they could not deliver on what the 8 week plan was and super flakey communicatio. my first appointment they reached out and rescheduled the day before bc they were overbooked. we did the $125 consultation plus 2 lessons. for the first lesson they confirmed by text the day before, for the 2nd lesson they emailed me twice plus txt me to confirm but still no plan. for our 3rd appointment I cancelled due to still no 8 week plan. for our next appointment I cancel again for same reason. this time no reply at all, no attempt to reschedule then a few days later they billed my card for 7 more lessons. which aren't planned or scheduled. now I had to submit a dispute from my bank. additionally I've been cautioned against contuing to work with them by my vet who says their expectations for my reactive dog are unrealistic and she will never be able to safely integrate with my other dogs, and they were misleading me to get money. read more

Since we were going on an extended vacation across the pond, we decided to give this place a try since they have private rooms. Another plus is they are near the place I usually board my babies so I was familiar with the neighborhood. 1st: The staff is awesome. It was suggested I take my pups there for a temperament test & to stay the day in a cabin. I loved how they handled my dogs. There was also plenty of staff on hand & each greeted Ezra & Emmett 2nd: The place is secure. I mean S-E-C-U-R-E. The front gate is always closed & the place is fenced & cross-fenced. 3rd: OMGersh, this place is totally cute! The cabins look like you are walking in a Old West town. The place is also B-I-G. For those of you who would like to try out the day care, there is a bone shaped swimming pool! 4th: Very clean. The office, yards, parking lot & dog areas are kept nice. Unfortunately, they are not open on Saturdays. However you can make an appointment for a Sunday pickup which was very easy to arrange. Just give your payment info & show up the next day to pick up your fur-baby. When I picked up the boys, they gave me a daily report card on how they did during their stay. It was fun to read. I will say this is the fastest my dogs re-acclimated after time spent away from the house. So I guess they give this place 5 stars too! read more

Wow, talk about a vacation for your beloved doggie! I have been taking by doggies here when my husband and I go out of town. The facilities are amazing, there is a doggie pool that is in the shape of a bone, cabins, and personal yards for your dog. I had to leave one of my dogs here for a bit more then a week. My dear Ruby has a huge phobia of Thunderstorms. I told this to the dog ranch before leaving Ruby in their hands. Unfortunately, that whole week had thunderstorms. The manager, decided that Ruby needed to stay with her in the main house. So, instead of being isolated in a cabin, she was welcome in the main house for the rest of her visit. They also washed her bedding and her when I picked her up (awesome!) The Houston Dog Ranch will always keep the best interest of your doggies. I will always travel across Houston for my doggies to have their own vacation. read more

We have used a number of groomers in Houston including every one of the supposed "best" places listed on Yelp. The groomer at Houston Dog Ranch outranks them all by a huge margin. He has been a groomer for many years and has a great sense of style for various cuts. He has groomed show dogs in the past and that sort of attention to detail is evident in his work. We have poodles with a style of cut that is demanding. It separates the pros from the pretenders. The quality of the cut and overall groom from the Houston Dog Ranch is the very best we have ever seen. The grooming facilities are fantastic as are the staff. The dogs are not confined to cages the entire time they are waiting for their bath and cut. They get time to relieve themselves and walk around an area inside the facility. Quite simply this is a great place to get your dogs groomed. read more

There isn't enough space here to write ALL of my thoughts about this place!!! I'll start with 3 years ago I got a puppy for my kids (yeah right) and let's just say I was OVERWHELMED by the whole thing- it was like having a baby!!!! Anyway, I placed a 911 call to HDR and Tonia must have felt so sorry for me she agreed to an emergency meeting- she got me through a very rough patch- I couldn't have done it without her- Glad to say that Daisy survived too and now she has become a member of the HDR family!!! I did training classes there (THE BEST!!!), she goes to play groups there (unlike any play group I have ever seen-human or canine!!) she boards there (so much attention) and now I am happy to say she gets groomed there (Paul is FABULOUS)- It really is one stop shopping!!! The ENTIRE staff there (shout out to Katy and Allison) should all be certified dog whisperers because they ALL have a way to relate on a real "doggie" level and you can tell they LOVE what they do- First class place for sooooo many reasons!!!! And, it's so convenient!!! Wouldn't know what to do without them----honestly!!! read more

Would not recommend Houston Dog Ranch to anyone I know. Most importantly I want to point out that he was returned in very bad condition. He had a severe bladder infection and a UTI. The vet was very concerned for the amount of time he had this it was so severe. When I called to speak with a manager no one even asked how Beau was doing, basically just took my name down and told me someone would return my call. Of course no one did, so I called back. I finally got in touch with a manager who had nothing really to say about it. I was very respectful, mainly was calling so this didn't happen to another dog. I was very hesitant to even write a review but what really has upset me is it's been two weeks and no one has even called to see how Beau is doing. Very very unprofessional. Now a little insight on the actual training program: We sent our 5 month old golden retriever to the two week program. We met with the trainer before to discuss what we wanted them to work on while he was there. When I went to pick him up I arrived at 11 they then sent me away because the trainers were at lunch, even though they scheduled me at that time. When I came back 3 hours later they went over what they had worked on the last two weeks, which was how to sit while using a collar to pull on his throat. Basically a waste of a lot of money to learn nothing. Like I said before WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. read more

Recently attended their "Control Yourself" 6 week class with my chocolate lab and I thought it was well taught. Amy was great and the materials they email you beforehand are very helpful. Great reference materials to go back to! The facility was clean and easy to find. The class was the perfect size (5 dogs). If it were much bigger I think it'd be too crowded for the space. I plan on returning for their loose leash walking workshop. I've never boarded my dog here since they seem to always be booked! I'd like to one day but it seems you have to book months in advance and I usually don't have that much notice for my work trips. Overall very satisfied with the training program. read more

AH! I heart Houston Dog Ranch! Not only is the facility well kept, clean and quite large, but they give you a discount if you board more than one dog which is AWESOME since we've got three now (eep!). My husband and I left two of our dogs here while we went on our honeymoon - our other one got sick at the last minute and stayed with the vet instead. HDR was very understanding and let us cancel his part of the reservation even though they normally have a 72 hour cancellation policy. We were a bit nervous because we haven't left our dogs with anyone for quite some time and we were going to be so far away. The HDR staff was very reassuring and asked for all the phone numbers and information that we could give them in case of an emergency. The best part was they provided an e-mail address that we could use if we wanted to check on them (of course I had to once or twice) and they were very prompt in answering and even told me that I could e-mail as many times as I would like :) The cabins are very luxurious, and with pool and play time I think they had a great little vacation! They were not stressed at all when they came home. I think we've found our permenant boarding facility! In my opinion it is worth every single penny!!!! read more

This is an amazing haven for dogs! We are still so impressed! It's been a while since we've needed to board our German Shepherd. We also recently rescued a Collie and we need to have a plan for boarding again. We are the Collie's fourth home in six months, so I wasn't sure how he would react to being left somewhere...again. We pulled into HDR with both dogs. They have accommodations large enough that our dogs can stay together. The grounds are impeccably kept and gorgeous. The staff is VERY attentive. I'm a helicopter dog mom. They have answered every email, resolved every concern, and it's clear how much they love dogs. Their attention to every detail, from health, medications, feeding schedules, even preferred toys gives me great peace of mind. They even invited me to call and check in to see how everything was going, and you know what? I didn't. I had total faith everything was great, and it was. I picked up two happy dogs and our sweet rescue wasn't in any hurry to leave...he still had people there he wanted to play with. On a side note, we have also referred friends who have now boarded their dogs with HDR regularly and they've been very happy. read more

This place is amazing! We hardly ever board our dogs but when we do this is our first choice! Our German shepherds are a little more needy than other dogs but they still take them in for us and I am always surprised by their attention to detail! I think they read the files about each dogs preferences before they meet us at the front! (like don't put a harness on this one, this one prefers a female handler, put a rug down in the room so my dog (who slips) can walk better etc.) I'm always impressed and the accommodations are incredible. Private play times (however many you want per day), a kong filled with treats at night, bones during the day... My dogs are seriously in heaven! Plus they get l a private cabin with a front porch! Lol The owner is really nice too! I'm glad I got to meet her, very kind and my dogs warmed up to her more quickly than most. read more

A really great place to board your dog. The person answering the phone is really kind, and friendly. We had booked our dog's stay in advance and everything was set. Easy peasy. At the last minute, I called (a couple of hours before they closed for the day) to see if I could bring Molly in a day earlier than expected. I was met with such kindness on the phone. And they were so flexible and patient with us and were able to get Molly in a day earlier. Everything was handled exceptionally and we were so appreciate and thankful. Molly is a nervous Nelly and we worry about leaving her. She was in great hands. When you pick up your dog, they provide you with a daily summary of how your dog did each day of their stay. Absolutely nothing compares to Houston Dog Ranch! We once made the mistake of going to another boarder when Dog Ranch was full, and will NEVER make that mistake again. My dog LOVES coming to Houston Dog Ranch for both training and boarding! I love the detailed doggie report cards that they give you after boarding. We have gone through 2 puppy prep classes with Amy, and are currently in our second agility class with Teri and they have both been incredible. If you want to board, be sure to call and book as soon as possible, as they do fill up fast! Lastly, the facility is gorgeous, and always kept clean and well maintained. read more

I got the opportunity to train with Michelle in Dock Diving. She worked with me and my 2 Golden Retrievers. She is absolutely amazing and a tremendous resource. Her experience and passion for the sport shines through in her attentive and positive methods towards training. I learned more in an hour than I have in a year through other methods. She did not rush us through and took time to answer our questions. She gave us training tips all the way to the car. My dog Dugan has been going to doggy daycare here since April 2008 when he was a puppy. I have never used any other doggy daycare so I don't have anything to compare to, but the staff at the HDR are fantastic. The doggy daycare dogs go swimming, play ball, and even come home with a report card. On holidays they get festive gifts, Christmas cards, birthday cards, etc. Tonia has made a great dog-themed facility that focuses on customer service. Yes, the rates are probably more expensive than other places, but the level of service is probably also superior. What do I like best about the HDR? I like that I can drop Dugan off there in the morning before work and not worry about him at all during the day because he's in good hands. I also like that he is completely exhausted when he comes home and sleeps for about 2 days straight! read more

Love, love, love Houston Dog Ranch! I will not board my dog anywhere else if I can help it. Now when I go to drop her off she could care less when they take her away, which she tends to be pretty attached to me, and when I pick her up she is so happy. I hate having to leave her but I know she is being well taken care of when she is here. The staff is awesome and always remembers her preferences and she even gets a little report card when I pick her up. Once while she was there she began limping, which is normal for her, but they were awesome and immediately called our emergency contact to let them know and ask if this was normal. read more

THE BEST!!!! My first introduction to Houston Dog Ranch was through a private lesson with one of their dog trainers, Abby Fields. I had just adopted a 9-week old shepherd/ rottweiler mix and wanted to make sure that my puppy was off to a good start. Abby made the lesson so much fun and gave me tons of helpful tips! We had such a good time with the private lesson that we decided to take some of the group training classes (Puppy Class/ Socialization and Basic Skills) at HDR; I highly recommend both of those classes and think that they have really helped my pup develop into the wonderful, happy, smart girl she is today. We look forward to taking more classes in the future. When I was looking to board my puppy for a week while I was out of town, I had no doubt that she would be happy and safe at HDR. The boarding facilities are tops! Well, actually, the entire ranch is amazing!!! The grounds are very spacious and well kept. There are lots of beautiful trees and a bone shaped swimming pool!! The boarding accommodations are very cute and very clean. Each cabin has a doggie door that leads to its own courtyard and they also play music throughout the cabins; I thought that was a nice touch. My girl seemed to have a wonderful "vacation" that week. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable and all definitely love dogs. You will not be disappointed!!! My husband and I totally spoil our fur baby and always want to get him the best of everything. Based on the reviews, the Houston Dog Ranch seemed like a no-brainer. Based on our experience, the HDR is very well managed and but run more so like a business than anything else. You pay a premium and are charged for everything, which we wouldn't mind as long as the customer service was outstanding. Unfortunately, we've had a few encounters with staff that had a very stuck-up, condescending attitude and we were left with the feeling that the employees were not really dog lovers. The facilities look nice from the outside, but there is very little socialization for the dogs and even when you max out on play time, the dogs are alone for the majority of the time. Our dog is very social, so this "prison- like" arrangement was not the best fit for him. While the façade is pretty and the marketing is good, the most important thing we want for our dog is love and compassion from the people taking care of him and unfortunately we did not find it here. read more

I left my 2 dogs for a 2 day/1 night stay. My older dog is 3 and has been here numerous times but it was the first time for our 18 month old puppy. Due to covid they give you very specific instructions about drop off & pick up procedures. The drop off was executed perfectly with 2 lovely ladies who attended our dogs. We arrived for pick up the next day at 4:22pm, 8 minutes earlier than our scheduled time. We rang the buzzer at the gate & received the after hours greeting. This did not worry us as this is typical for Sunday pick up. However, when the time started approaching 4:30pm we began to wonder what was going on. We drove to the training gate that was located next to the entrance gate where we noticed several cars. We left a message on the telephone number provided but once again did not get a response. We moved back to the gate for boarding & my husband started to look more closely at the gate & decided it appeared to be broken. At that point a gentleman noticed us and waved us over to the training gate entrance indicating that the boarding gate was indeed broken. The gentlemen that helped us retrieve our dogs appeared friendly & kind but did not offer an explanation for the late mix up. We did not receive any notice about the broken gate etc. or the changed pick up procedure. We finally left the facility at approximately 4:45 pm & I was so glad to get the dogs home after this miserable experience. They did not appear to be mistreated but this is the final straw with this place. I did receive their beds & treats but not a report about their behavior/mood etc. I no longer trust this facility with my dogs & I will not return. read more

I am very disappointed in the lack of communication with the HDR. I first inquired about boarding school back on May 24. I gave a brief description of Hank, exactly how old he was etc, and my desire to have him boarded and trained. I was told an information packet would be sent to fill out so as to confirm the dates requested. On 5/26 I emailed again requesting the information packet. The packet was sent and a confirmation that the dates of July 11-21 were available. On 5/31, I finally received the information packet and filled it out and returned it the same day. There was no further communication up until 6/23, which I understand is not necessary. On 6/23 I sent all of Hank's shot records. I called the same day to confirm they had been received and asked if we needed to bring the puppy by for a quick "meet and greet". I was told that wasn't necessary. Again, not a big deal. So 4 days before I was planning to leave the dog for 2 weeks you call me and leave me a message that we cannot board my dog. I feel this is very unprofessional and reveals your lack of organizational skills to run your business. These are details, such as rounds of shots required for puppies, that should have been communicated from the very beginning, at the least on 6/23 when the shot records were sent. I guarantee you that for the next 13 plus year that I have Hank, he will never be boarded at your facility. I will also never recommend the HDR to any of my friends or family. read more

Overall, a nice facility. Have not boarded a dog here but have participated in a number of group dog lessons, including agility. Knowledgeable trainers. Agility classes tend to be basic--wish they were more accommodating to dogs at more of an intermediate level. Too much time spent training on the tunnel after it is clearly mastered--great accommodation to beginners and new comers but repeat customers are not appropriately appreciated and are expected to waste their time (and money) while the beginners learn the tunnel over and over and over. Essentially no training on the more intermediate tasks like the see-saw and weave poles. Stagnates dogs who have mastered the basics. Would be better to just tell the customer that Houston Dog Ranch only offers beginning agility courses. Biggest peeve and the one tempting the lowest star rating is that one trainer does not treat all customers the same and can be snappy to some--without provocation!--instead of treating all customers with the respect to which all respectful customers are due! Very irritating to the dis-repected customer. At the very least, adult customers should be treated as adults, not snapped at and talked down to like children. read more

My sister recommended HDR after having boarded her dog there twice. We took our 4 month old puppy for a weekend with them. She had recently gotten a UTI and was on medication for it when we dropped her off. Everyone was incredibly friendly when we got there, we dropped off very detailed instructions and labeled everything for them. After we picked her up, we got home I noticed that they had not given her ANY of her medication while she was in their care. I called and got a call back the next day from the manager, apparently their front desk personnel "dropped the ball" and lost her check in paper work and NO ONE bothered to call me to review anything with me, even though I called TWICE throughout the weekend and no one ever called me back. They did refund me the cost of her staying there and paid for her follow up vet visit, but that didn't make the fact that she had to be given extra medication because her infection got worse any better. Thanks to their absolute negligence, she was uncomfortable for days and cried and whined throughout the night from the pain. It's a shame this happened because it seems like such a nice place, but the fact that it DID happen, and my puppy suffered because of it, makes me NEVER want to come back to this place. read more
