I tried the carryout menu tonight. It's always good with dine in or takeout. I had two chicken wings and a chicken thigh. The Apo very delicious well seasoned baked beans and the broccoli cauliflower salad. Just water to drink the fried chicken was fresh even though it was close to closing time and the salad was just as good the baked beans have a really unique taste. You could tell that they just not opened a can and they put them in the oven. Staff is always friendly and professional, and always eager to accommodate you for any changes or add odd request, the restaurant is really decorated nice with old-fashioned antiques and dining room and carry out area is always well kept and clean. I'm a school bus and while my school's football team was up here from Evansville I found this terrific spot. The food is outstanding!!!! The ribs are tender and tasty, the brisket done to perfection and pulled pork and chicken savory. For a buffet the service was nice. They never let the empty plates stack up and even offered to fitch my dessert. I had the blackberry cobbler which was heavenly. I went to this place while traveling for work. I really like to try barbecue in different areas of the country. I went in and what I think was the hostess just ask me what I wanted to drink and told me $16.99??? I'm asking what am I getting she said it was only a buffet. So that should have been my sign that a buffet bbq place is probably not going to be great bbq. The restaurant seemed like a good place to go if you were just needing a decent lunch place . Nothing outstanding about the atmosphere. The barbecue was kind of mushy and not a great smoked flavor more like a crock pot bbq. Salad bar was ok the best thing was it seemed fresh .(which is important) If I'm traveling back in the area I will choose another place to try. read more

What throws me off is they hand you a fork & napkin. No knife? The silverware is available if you need it.You just have to find it.The silverware is the cheapest grade I have ever seen.Very rough edges 3rd world grade.I had a gift certificate for payment. I live in California and Amazon sent me out for their Mechatronics program in Vincennes Indiana. And in that time, I had the opportunity to eat in just about every restaurant in that beautiful city. Friends, Dogwood is hands down the best food in town. I absolutely love and miss that place. I went there at least 30 times in three months . The name here did confuse us. It's really a buffet with some bbq items on the buffet. Fried chicken is outstanding and I did like the ham and beans. The ham and brisket were very salty. Green beans were good. Seemed like all of the staff were grandmother types and they were all good and pleasant. They bring you a desert to your table. Yum!!! I was in town for an event at the university and decided to give this place a try. It was fabulous! The staff here are so very welcoming and accommodating. They explained where everything was, chatted with me a bit, and consistently went above and beyond for every customer. One elderly gentleman needed some help bringing his plate back to the table and one of the staff members helped him out--such a kind thing to do. The food here is also lovely! They stress the homemade aspect of their offerings and are SO excited to talk about their pies and dessert options! The food on the buffet is so good everything has an exceptional quality. The selection is limited however the quality makes up for the smaller selection. The service is impeccable and akin to the "my pleasure" service of chick fil a. This is a nice homey looking place. The inside decor has a lot of antiques and has exposed wood beams and floors that gives it a cabin feel. They have a large private parking lot and also have a drive thru if you don't want to go in and sit down to eat. You pay at the register for the buffet and then find a spot to sit. It can get fairly busy depending on the time of day. I was here on a weekday around 2 and it was pretty busy. They have a large buffet. One is mainly soups and salads with all the fixings. The other is the hot foods. Everything was fresh and hot. They have the usual sides of mashed potatoes gravy, green beans and then have bbq pork, fish, fried chicken etc for the meat. They have a small area where they have homemade bread also and if you want pie or dessert your waitress will tell you what kind they have and bring it out to you. Our waitress was fairly attentive. The food was just not that great for me. The macaroni and cheese didn't have much flavor. I had the stuffed pepper soup and it was just ok. Ok, someone else mentioned this in their review, it is a BUFFET. They said if they had known that, they'd have turned around and left. I decided to stay and check it out. I do agree, they need a sign out front for newcomers pointing out it is a buffet. When I walked in the hostess asked if it was for one person, I said yes and she told me a price. I thought she was thinking I was there for a take-out order and said I wasn't there for a takeout. She then was puzzled until I looked past her and saw the buffet table and realized what was happening! HA! Felt a bit silly. Anyway, I went ahead and paid and sat down. A waitress came by quickly and got my drink order and told me to go help myself. Since I was thinking BBQ when I pulled in, I figured may as well try it. It was good. Nothing to scream about, just good. I've had BBQ from some of the "famous" or well known places in Nashville and Memphis. This was good, but didn't match up. I had the red potatoes, tried the sweet potatoes, the green beans. All were good. The green beans tasted fresh, not canned. I've tried enough of restaurant food and the green beans always seem to be the give-away item as to canned or fresh. These seem fresh. Would I go there again, probably not. A typical Midwestern buffet filled with mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, red potatoes, bacon soaked green beans, corn, fried chicken, livers and pulled BBQ pork....there is that. A second buffet line is filled with "salad" options; jello, shredded lettuce, potato salad, etc. None of the food is amazingly flavorful, but I will say, both the fried chicken and the cauliflower/broccoli salad are delish! Our server was on top of things in her little Amish style uniform (with her tattoos and facial piercings), keeping our drinks full and offering us multiple pie options for dessert afterwards. I was stuffed so full, I was unable to try everything. I regret getting so full cause the pies our waitress was tempting us with sounded delicious. I was in 2 weeks ago and was able to order a pulled pork sandwich to go, It was a good portion. Though we don't get to come too often, this is a great place to eat if you are passing through Vincennes. This place is slightly pricey, but the food is always worth the price. It claims itself as a barbecue, though it offers only a few BBQ choices, however this is no big deal. The lack of barbecue is made up for in other meat selections to include fish, brisket, and frog legs, all accompanied by delicious side items. (Red Skin Potatoes are my favorite.) The wait staff is very hit or miss, but the majority of service is good, though a few of the young female servers my family has had in the past were slow to get refills and check on our tables. Our favorite server is a college age student who always carries Vincennes University lanyard. This young man has been serving since we started coming a few years back, and if he is available we always request him. He is always on top of drinks and desert, my family loves hearing him say the pie list! All in all, I highly recommend giving this place a try if you haven't before. read more

Small place off the beaten path, oh you missed it, turn around and go back. Country charm inside. Small buffet, but had the right amount of choices for the price. The waitress informed us, everything is made in house, from the fresh baked bread, coleslaw, potato salad, BBQ meats and cobbler. If they do not ask you, they do have fresh baked pies in the back, they are included in the buffet price. We didn't know till after we were already full. This is one of the better places to eat in town. I enjoy the choices of meats and the salad bar. The beef brisket and fried chicken are my favorites. Consistently, the vegetables lack flavor, and taste like they came out of a can (though I was assured that they don't). The mashed potatoes taste like instant. It's pretty hard to mess up mashed potatoes, seeing as the only obligatory ingredients are potatoes, salt, pepper, and butter. I would love to see a little more of the last 3 in there... But, I still eat there at least once a week because of the meats and salad. You'll want to have a slice of pie/cake and a cup of coffee. We heard about this from a friend and decided to make the drive down from Terre Haute and were pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty and better than any buffet I've ate at before. They do not have the selection that larger budgets do, but honestly the quality of the food is much better than you can get in chain places.
