I have been to Coco's multiple times the last two times have really been down hill. This time I decided to make a review. I get we come in as a big birthday party today for our occasion but our food was cold, our service was slow and we had to get up to even ask for drinks and for the dessert menu. I'm all for putting gratuity on a big group but 22% and getting terrible service and food is ridiculous. The only thing that came out hot was the appetizers. The dessert was the best thing but the actual food needs work for warm/hotness when coming from the kitchen. read more

Wow - This place was very unexpected. Came for a work lunch and they recommended we go here. We did not have reservations but luckily we were able to get a table for 6 right away. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and made really good recommendations. While I didn't get to see it, they also have a spa on site. I saw a couple people going in and leaving, I really want to do that next time I'm in the area. The food was very good, I had a sandwhich which was really good. They also have tons of dessert options which I didn't get but wanted to but was so full from all the good food I had. I totally recommend this place, I'm sure it will not disappoint! read more

Drove over an hour to try this destination experience from Bloomington Indiana. So glad we did! I took my mom here for her 68th birthday. After relaxing In the Himalayan sea salt room we enjoyed lunch alfresco on the patio. They were sweet to accommodate our small toy poodle. It was very cozy and shaded. I started off with a cup of the red pepper Gouda soup. It was Very well seasoned, full of big chunks of red pepper, and finished with creamy cheese. Delicious!! Then I ordered the stuffed chicken which is listed as a menu favorite. The chicken breast is Panko encrusted and filled with a savory cream cheese with a zesty glaze. Wonderful! It took a while for someone to come to our table, and when they did, the server (who never introduced herself) asked if we had been helped. After taking our drink orders, she bolted off before we could even say we were ready to order. My meal came without a side, and she never checked in on us after it was delivered. We waited forever for dessert and the check, and when we finally got the check, there was no clarity on how to pay. We ended up walking it to the register. The service didn't match the vibe of the restaurant, and it seemed like staff didn't work well together. I'm hoping they refresh their service standards. read more

Ended up coming here for the first time on a Saturday night for dinner. Very impressed! The meal is definitely the best in town (including Vincennes too). I had the stuffed chicken (pictured). It came highly recommended and I agreed...very good! Also got a piece of White Wedding Cake to go and it's out of this world. It's a big slice so for sure get one slice for 2 people or take it to-go! Ah, yes. COCO's. Southeast Illinois' bastion of culture and good taste. May she ever reign. But being a bastion means jutting into the enemy, and it ain't always easy folks. COCO's has a really nice menu, bringing some trendy food to lil ol Lawrence county. Sometimes the execution misses the target. Our salmon was dry and quite over cooked. Prime was too salty as were the other dishes. But entirely tolerable. CS is where the drama begins. It's hit or miss, usually miss. Be prepared to help train the waitstaff. There's nothing wrong with it. The best episode from this visit is when we asked for a vegetarian recommendation (there aren't any, something to address). Our fellow responded with, "like, how vegetarian are you?" I really do like everything about COCO's. I've never had a bad dessert, and, yes, dessert can be screwed up. Usually the appetizers blow me away. One of the best French onion soups I've eaten came from this kitchen. But, it's a gastronomical roller coaster, folks. This is a wonderful place in lawrenceville. I'm from San Francisco and this place has saved me on many trips to see my family. I'm vegan but can pass for vegetarian, lol, and so finding veggie options in rural America is often hard. The food is wonderful! Plus Thursday night happy hour is a real deal! The owner of this place is truly committed to enhancing the town and also on a personal note extremely kind. She and the staff really went the extra mile a few months ago when my father passed away and we needed a location on short notice for a celebration of life. This is a super cute little cafe! I highly recommend making reservations. When we called to reserve a table they were full for that evening but we were placed on a waiting list. We made plans to go somewhere close by just in case we would still be able to get in here and lucky for us we got the call that someone had cancelled and we could get in! We started out with a few drinks before we made our decision on what we wanted. Our waitress was very chatty and didn't hesitate to let us know what her favorite drinks and food items are. We started out with the dill pickle chips and a homemade dilly ranch sauce and they were amazing! Our friends ordered the Buckeyes and beer cheese which was actually little soft pretzel balls! They were pretty tasty also! The Sophia margarita was amazing as well. Most of us got the prime rib for our main dish and it came with a salt crusted baked potato and green beans. The prime rib was not the best I've ever had, it was actually cut pretty thin and had a large portion of fat on it. It was served with an au jus sauce that was phenomenal. I prefer horseradish with mine but our waitress informed me that they were out that evening. We ended our meal with their famous wedding cake! It was tasty but I was unable to finish it and I'll just say it was actually better the next day I thought so get a piece to go! Definitely will be returning here in the near future! First off- great location and decor. The waitress was very nice and accommodating. However: 1. Our appetizer (Loaded fries) took a very long time. I was just about to finish my second beer before it came out. The waitress was very apologetic. 2. My entree (Prime Rib) was undercooked- I asked for Medium-well and I received Medium-rare. Additionally, the dry-rub seasoning was missing completely... eating an unseasoned slab of beef is a poor experience. Going on, there was to be a horseradish-sauce to come with the beef that also was missing. The Aus Jus was included, however. The green beans that were to be included with my and my wife's meal never came out (there was some delay in the kitchen or other problem). 3. We each ordered different desserts. After 10 or so minutes I was informed that they were out of the dessert I ordered (The Blondie). 4. We were told that we wouldn't be charged for the fries and also given a discount for the green beans. However; when we received our bill it was not itemized- only the total price of our meal was given. Same thing when we received our debit card transaction/tip receipt. No way of telling if any price reduction was given. I'm an understanding guy, but this was a bad experience. I cannot recommend this restaurant to others. The prime rib was probably among the worst I've ever had. I really wanted to try it based off of how it was described in the menu. I'm so sorry, but it's the truth. read more

I absolutely love everything about this place. The decor, ambiance, service, food, drinks and dessert were all better than I could have imagined. I had been scoping out their menu for a while for my visit there in February 2020. I knew for certain that I needed to have a cocktail and a slice of cake. I've never had a menu have so many things on it that I wanted to try. Each dish sounded appealing to me, and they were all so well thought out. I started with the strawberry margarita which was so refreshing - even on a cold night! I can only imagine having several of those on a summer night. :) We also had the buckeye pretzels with beer cheese, which was a fantastic appetizer. The cheese has a kick to it and the pretzels are deliciously soft. I had a tasty salad since I knew I was having some dessert, and the ingredients were all so fresh. That salad dressing (was it a lemon vinaigrette?) was so delicious! A perfect blend to top any salad with. My husband had the maple bacon mac'n'cheese which was so creamy and filling! I tried the chocolate espresso cake for my dessert since those are two of my favorite things. That cake did not disappoint! The frosting was so rich, not too overly sweet, and the amount of coffee flavor was just right. Overall a fantastic slice of cake! I also tried a few bites of the brownie explosion which was just as amazing! That warm brownie with the ice cream, whipped cream and walnuts is a perfect combination. We had some live music to accompany us the night we were there. It's such a lovely setting with the most wonderful staff. When I make it back to Lawrenceville one day, this place will certainly be at the top of my list to re-visit! read more

I was thrilled when I was told Saturday evening by the waitress that shrimp and grits was the special for the evening. I immediately decided to order it, as I have missed it since it was taken off the regular menu. Imagine how disappointed I was to see that the large shrimp that I remembered had been replaced with tiny quarter-sized shrimp! The flavor of the cheesy grits was good, and I enjoyed the balsamic reduction served on the side, but neither could make up for those embarrassingly sad little shrimp. I was even more disappointed to see that I paid $20.50 for the entrée. I felt like the dish should have come with a disclaimer. This one night will not keep me from returning to Coco's, but I will become a much more discerning consumer. read more

So, I've been coming up here from south Florida my whole life. This place is a breathe of fresh air. It's incredible! There is new mixed with old. One of the things I love about this area is that is stays relatively unchanged which is awesome. (I know this is unpopular but, the outside world sucks and it's nice for some familiarity). There are pictures on the wall of "the good ole days" in Lawrence Illinois. The atmosphere is modern. They have all types of beers and wine and keep it healthy. Extremely friendly. The service is top notch. It was my first time here and they made me feel very welcome. I really love the pride they take in their little town and how they strive to keep things fresh. I went to Coco's today with 4 other ladies for lunch. We arrived about 12:45. The other four ladies were from the area and had been to Coco's before, but I had not. Lawrenceville is a fairly small town so I was pleasantly surprised to see such an upscale restaurant. We were greeted by the owner when we arrived, and shown to a table. Our waitress came by promptly with menus and silverware and took our drink orders. She returned with our drinks and took our food orders. The two story building that Coco's is in used to be a car dealership. It has been completely and lovingly renovated into a complex that houses Coco's as well as a Day Spa and a workout facility. Seating for the restaurant can be inside or outside on their charming patio, complete with clever water features. There is also a banquet type room off of the patio that is beautifully rustic and upscale. The interior of the restaurant is what I would call upscale eclectic. It's a little hard to describe but it is charming and well thought out. There is a bar to one side. Now for the food. It was wonderful. I had the ham and Swiss cheese quiche with a small salad. Two ladies had a Cowboy Salad, another had the chicken pot pie and the 5th had a salad with walnuts and raisins. The food was a little slow to come out, but well worth the wait. Our waitress checked back frequently for drink refills. We were all too full for dessert, but their selection looked delicious. If you are in the area, definitely give Coco's a try. You won't be disappointed in the food or the atmosphere. And if you have time for a massage or other spa treatment, try that too. read more

The menu is diverse and the salads, teas and coffees are really good. The Manhattan pot roast was good but too much bread and too little meat. The reason for the rating is that I've never found the service to be very good. Many stand around yet show little interest.
