We got the crispy salmon roll and tofu wings as appetizers and the seafood tom yum noodle soup and tofu panang curry as entrees, then finally the lychee cheesecake as dessert I would say you can skip the two apps we got (they were good just not my thing). Lychee cheesecake was the best cheesecake I have ever had and I would recommend to everyone. The interior was also beautiful -- very aesthetically pleasing. Wait times were a bit long, but our server was very kind and please note that your parking is validated for 2 hours!!! Wow! Having been many times to Columibia location, we were very excited to try the Chevy Chase location. Everything about this location is just so much better than Columbia. More space between the tables. Less noisy. And the food? Just wonderful. Lamb curry, branzino, and the amazing house pad thai were delicous as always. The wonton seemed a little skimpy - lot of broth, few fillings but it was enjoyable anyways. We'll be back! read more

We were a party of 8. The waiter took our order but forgot to ask the host of the dinner what he wanted. So we had to get his attention so that he could take his order. The food came out 2 plates at a time. I waited 5 minutes and had to flag our server down to ask where my meal was, he said let me check. He then went to the point of sales register and punched in my order which he had forgotten to put in. By the time I got my dinner everyone at the table was practically finished with their meal. I absolutely LOVE this place! Tried it for the first time and had to come back a few weeks later to eat here again. Definitely make a reservation for dinner on the weekends - it's bustling! The restaurant itself is aesthetically pleasing. But the service left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't know if he was the manager or the owner, but some dude didn't seem pleased that we only ordered 2 appetizers (mind you there were only 2 of us). He kept "joking" about it and was probably annoyed that we were taking many pictures. He probably thought we were ordering nothing else. The marinated chicken in my rice noodle soup was so dry I couldn't eat it, although the soup was flavorful. I have hearing issues, and the room on a Friday evening was so noisy I couldn't hear my friend across the table. The service was great! I might try Dok Khao again at a less busy time. read more

I love this place! It is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. I have been there about 3 times and each time the food was incredible and tasty. I have tried the crab fried rice, pad thai and the special appetizer called golden bags (ordered for all 3 visits!). Darn. I really wanted to love this place but giving it 2 stars (maybe 2 1/2 if that was an option). The specialty cocktails were great - expensive but tasty. We had the Spicy Daisy and a Thai basil gin martini-like drink (a "chef's special") that both packed a punch and had really interesting flavor profiles. The appetizer, Golden Bags (a special by Chef Patty) was a bit dry but good flavor. Doubt I would get it again but it was perfectly enjoyable. For our entrée we had Crispy Pork Basil and Panang with Chicken. The pork belly and spicy basil sauce was fantastic but it was served with "steamed vegetables" that I swear were microwaved Bird's Eye frozen vegetables. I apologize if this is not the case but they sure looked and tasted like that. The Panang curry was probably the highlight of the meal - spicy but not too hot, awesome flavor and definitely craveable. Unfortunately, the chicken was dry and very forgettable. Bottom line - with a final bill of $120 (including a generous tip for very good service and a nice atmosphere), we won't be coming back unless to sit at the swanky bar for a couple of tasty but expensive drinks and maybe an appetizer. read more

Awful experience with this place. Ordered delivery with their website. You are told only after paying how long the wait is (70 minutes for us). 90 minutes later, no food. 3 phone calls to the restaurant and 120 minutes later, no food. 140 minutes later, the food shows up while we are on the phone asking for a full refund. Initially, they agreed and then said we will only give you a 50% refund and you can keep the food. We said no thank you, please take it back and give us our $100 back. This is a complete lack of customer service - if a restaurant was truly apologetic about their error and wanted a repeat customer, I would expect they insist you keep the food and a full refund. This place is unbelievable! I know Thai as I am Billy Thai. Purveyor of over 200 local DMV Thai restaurants and eateries. I sat at the bar with great saloon keeper and bartender CJ. He is friendly, knowledgeable and keeps the drinks a movin'. The green color scheme throughout is appealing and gives you an immense feeling of warmth. I began with the Kanon Jeeb and it was perfectly made. The amount of crunch and tastiness of the crab meat combined with the sweet, sweet soy sauce made for a great beginning to my meal. I then ordered the Pad Prik Khing with chicken and it was phenomenal. I have eaten this one dish alone hundreds of times and this was in the .0763% of the top offering I have ever experienced. Huge portion too. The chicken was perfectly sauteed and tender. The green peppers and other veggies crisp and flavorful. I'm shocked I cleaned my plate. Their food is premade then unfrozen, that's why they can't change the spice level. For a new restaurant, these people are extremely rude, cursing under their breath in front of kids, because they didn't like the tip. Their attitude is awful, and the food is nothing special compared to other restaurants in the area. This new Thai restaurant in Chevy Chase is a new addition to a group of Thai restaurants owned by the Pathana. The space is nicely decorated but has two flaws- there are no blinds to block the sun rays at sunset , and the AC ducts are situated directly above most tables and blow cold air on the diners. Air deflectors are essential. The menu is extensive and expensive compared to other excellent Thai restaurants in Rockville and Laurel. Most dishes at this place are $1-$2 more than in the Columbia branch. The healthy rolls were tasteless and instead of peanut sauce they are accompanied by a sweet sticky sauce. The Pa Low Gai soup is listed as spicy but was also a tasteless mixture of large pieces of dry chicken (marinated according to the menu), rice noodles ,one piece of Chinese broccoli, no bean sprouts, and about 1/2 cup of tasteless broth. The eggplant was good but the soft shell crabs at $31 were a flop. The crabs were heavily coated and deep fried instead of sautéed in butter. The crabs were placed on top of tasteless mush of pumpkin (?) and drenched in a nondescript brown sauce. A delicate seafood made into a mess.
