How lucky that we accidentally found this place while waiting for our movie. The ambience the decor the friendly staff and most importantly, the delicious food and drinks made us very happy that we came upon this new place! We tried the crunchy tuna rolls and my sister had the triple sea delight and both were wonderful. Not to mention fast! We told the hostess we were in a rush and she rushed! I felt truly welcomed and I can't wait to go back. Thank you guys!

They're still in their soft opening phase so I'll have to go back and try it out again. It was okay. Service was really good. But, we were the only ones there. Sushi looked nice and the descriptions sounded really good. But it was just okay. I think their specialty rolls need some adjustments. Everything we had was soft. Some cucumber or crunch would have been nice.

    Sunset Roll

One of my favorite spots! You get to order on an IPad and the sushi comes out pretty quick. Pictured is the sunset roll which is great. We also love the tuna flight and sushi dinner. Thanks Ronnie for great service!

We visited Shiki Fusion during their soft opening. There are high expectations for this restaurant. The servers were very friendly and helpful. And I think the sushi was good - I got the salmon flight, 2 pieces of king salmon, 2 pieces of aburi salmon, 2 pieces of regular salmon, and a spicy salmon roll. It's as good as any you might find on the Pike. I also tried the Crab Meat Tom Yum Lava Bowl - maybe my expectations were high, but it didn't deliver as I'd expected. Shiki Fusion has an opportunity to establish themselves as a go-to location in Montgomery Mall, but they're going to have to step it up if they want to stick around.

Firstly, this place is really beautifully decorated inside. Would be a nice spot for a date or special dinner with friends or family. The food was really good. We only had sushi this time but everything was delicious and fresh tasting. We especially liked all of the rolls that we had with salmon, very delicious. Service was very nice as well. I plan to come back to try some of the hot entree dishes but overall nice place!

Creamy kimchi udon - a must order.

Tried this newest addition at the Westfield Montgomery Mall on a Saturday evening. 5 star for atmosphere and service. 5 stars for majority of dishes we tried except one. We had sashimi, sushi rolls, Thai fusion dishes, cocktails and mocktails. The sashimi and rolls were excellent in freshness. Highly recommend the Creamy kimchi udon and the wagyu fried rice. The crabmeat tom yum lava bowl had a good amount of crab meat but the tom yum sauce was too thick and sweet that it detracted from the fluffy egg and crab meat. This dish is a bit of a letdown. Our server is Sasa and she is extremely helpful and energetic. Japanese food is always more expensive so you need to take that into consideration. But this is certainly a great option with plenty of parking and the mall offers a place to stroll before and after a meal. Great for family and kid friendly. Tables are well spaced so conversations felt east and private.

New sushi place at montgomery mall. It's a pretty restaurant. The spicy edamame and sushi rolls were very good and the service was great. They are still in a soft opening but adding happy hour soon and should get their liquor license next week.

    Tuna sashimi

First visit - Ordering was simple and fast on their tablet. A server is always there if needed. We had: Rock shrimp: excellent flavor, size and batter. Spider roll, shrimp tempura roll were also excellent. The tuna sashimi was excellent and must have been Grade 1/premium. The beef teriyaki was very good. The default is well done. Next time I will ask for medium. Our service "Ling" was great! She came around just enough and wasn't intruding. The booths are comfortable and spaced apart great! We definitely will be back to try more!

    Thai Tea

Resturant was absolutely beautiful and staff was so friendly. Our server Sasa was so kind and helpful when we were stuck on deciding what to order. Food was absolutely delicious and prices were great. Only thing that could be improved is more desert options, but their menu is still adding new additions so hopefully that won't be an issue for too much longer.

Salmon flight, Philly roll, salmon avocado, nigiri

One of the best sushi places we've had around the area! We went around happy hour time where they have food and drink specials. The fish is fresh and the watermelon martini was good, just small. Overall would recommend coming here. We will be back!

    Yellowtail

We had a great dinner for a girls' night out! Rock shrimp and out of control roll were delicious. The yellowtail jalapeño appetizer was so fresh. Best sushi we've had in a while! Great service and ambiance too- our waitress Sahar was so friendly and made good recommendations.

We ordered a couple of items and everything is delicious. Quality of food is fresh. Service and atmosphere are excellent. Will definitely go back and try more items again.

Any Marylander of the Boomer and GenX generation knows about O'Donnell's RUM BUNS. I used to come here with family back in its heyday and these were served table side before our meal. How crazy is that, a nice lil somewhat sinful dessert BEFORE some MD crab?! Those were the days! The rum buns are more nostalgia more than anything, I wouldn't say they'll blow your socks off, but hey, nostalgia is nostalgia. Well, I'll need to dine in here for a full and complete verdict, but my quick grab and go visit was a tad chaotic. Service for taking orders could improve - you walk in, there's a seafood counter to your left, bakery counter to your right (both were unmanned when I walked in) and in the middle is a deli section with the cash register where I assume they take orders. We stood there for a few good minutes before getting anyone's attention despite the fact a manager asking staff (not customers) if everyone was being helped. Clearly staff did not know who was waiting to check out, take orders or just waiting for their orders to arrive. So it was just weird. No one greeting you as you walk in either, it just also weird because there's no clear line anywhere you stand. Otherwise, rum buns were as I remembered them. Also picked up crab dip and chicken salad from the grab and go section from the back and they were just ok, not bad, not great. So will come again for a future visit hoping to have a much better meal and experience!

Kanpai is in a prime place along Rockville Pike, but depending on when you go you may find easy parking. (If you're not bothered about where to park, ignore what I just said.) Out front there's something that looks like a tuk-tuk or rickshaw. Tbh, don't know if it's theirs or the business next door. The restaurant itself is clean and elegant. Also, not as loud as some Korean BBQs (thinking of KPOT off of Randolph Rd), which is important if you don't like being overwhelmed by everyone else's noise. That is one big '+' in Kanpai's favor. The waiter was cool and very helpful. Because of him I now know what the thin meat slices are meant for (which is for the soup), before then I had no clue. The food itself is good. Like, why wouldn't it be? I actually prefer the shabu-shabu (soup), makes me wish I knew how to do that myself so I wouldn't have to go out as much. Yes, the grill meats were great, as was the kimchi. These places are not cheap, but it was enjoyable while I was there. If you're not in a rush you can go a few doors down afterward to an import store selling everything from K-chips to puzzle-kits. So I would say...take your time. But don't warm your seats for more than 90 minutes, as Korean BBQs tend to kick people out (nicely, nicely) if one overstays. P.S. I'm sure they have some great drinks there, but even if I wanted to I couldn't loiter. That's what Bethesda is for. (Or at least how it used to be.)

After negotiations, we ended up with the following: Goat cheese stuffed fig appetizer White lasagna w/ shrimp and crab (one of the specials) w/ roasted veggies. Italian style paella For drinks, my husband got the blueberry margarita and I followed instructions to "ask about our creative mocktails", and ended up with a superlative strawberry no-jito. (It was REALLY good. I want another one. Now. Hub's drink was also tasty but I liked mine better.) Of all the dishes, my favorite was the Italian style paella. Tons of perfectly cooked seafood in a delicious broth with angel hair. Liht and delicious. The white lasagna was also delish but the dominant flavor was the mozzarella; the seafood didn't come through as much with this one. But I absolutely loved the roasted vegetables it came with. Sometimes the simple dishes are the best. The figs were quite tasty, it's hard to go wrong with goat cheese. I think I get dates and figs confused because they weren't quite what I expected but I enjoyed them. The service was friendly and pretty fast. There are still a bunch of dishes there I want to try so I will try to get back on another date night before too long and order something different. Small negatives - it was a tad warm in the restaurant but given that it was HOT A.F. outside, I will cut them slack on that. Also, I wouldn't have minded a small amount of bread with the meal, maybe you have to order it and I just didn't notice? I'm used to a little bit of bread with Italian food so it didn't occur to me to do so but I would have loved to sop up some of the delicious broth from the paella with it.

While the service was friendly, the timing of the food was slower than expected. Our CT's Famous Grilled Caesar Salad arrived about 20 minutes after ordering, and our Crispy Thin White Pizza didn't arrive until about 45 minutes after we placed our order. I was also disappointed to learn that the Tri Color Cheese Tortellini had been removed from the menu, as it had always been one of my favorite dishes here. The CT's Famous Grilled Caesar Salad is still a solid starter. We also enjoyed the Crispy Thin White Pizza, and I liked that it was presented flat rather than stacked, unlike the version at Amalfi Ristorante. That presentation allowed the toppings and crust to shine, while still offering its own distinct flavor. I'd also love to see the Tortoni dessert make a return, even if it's only offered as an occasional special. It was a memorable way to end a meal and would be a nice nostalgic addition to the menu. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but between the longer wait despite mentioning our schedule and the removal of a couple of favorite menu items, this visit didn't quite match the experiences I've had here in the past.
