As THE Billy Thai [TM] I eat at many hundreds of area Thais. My favorite dish is Pad Prik Khing, any meat choice is fine. I usually go with chicken first, then beef and then pork. This restaurant gets it right each and every time as it's large portions of delectable sauteed meats and fresh crisp yellow and red bell peppers. I'm slightly handicapped and I don't even mind the steep stair climb up to the second level. Well worth it!!! Been here several times. read more

This is the worst Thai place I have ever eaten. First of all, on every table there is a disclaimer saying that they will not exchange or replace any foods that you don't like. Thai at Silver Spring is a decent Thai restaurant in downtown Silver Spring. The menu is extensive, and they have a lot of traditional Thai dishes, as well as a mix of not so traditional dishes for those with less sophisticated palates. I ordered the traditional Thai dish of "basil chicken" or "ka pow." They have two version on the menu, one is the traditional Thai way of diced meat, and the other version is sliced Anyway, the basil chicken wasn't bad, the portion was generous, maybe too generous, but the flavor was too sweet - and trust me on this, I lived in Thailand and know how this dish should taste. My partner's dish was not a traditional Thai dish, also a huge portion, so at least you are getting a lot for your money. The papaya salad wasn't bad, not the best, but I could eat it again. They also have an extensive alcohol menu, but PLOT TWIST, they do not currently have an alcohol license so not sure why they even handout the drink menu. In summary, not a bad place if you really have an itch for Thai food, but the Thai restaurants in Virginia are much better and more authentic. 3/5 read more

Service was quick and friendly. The food was cooked fresh to order and of food quality. The only issue was the branzino was over-fried and the vegetables and fish had no seasoning. I soon had a Siam Mule and was reviewing the menu. I was anxious to compare the curry to what's in my hometown. This restaurant is no diffident if not less. The good quality was low and although the time was near to the closing of the restaurant I did still expect some freshness and better quality. The hostess was amazing and friendly but this couldn't offset the disappointment I had of the food. I got the Pad Khing Sod and the staple the mango sticky rice. The mango sticky rice was the best item of the whole meal. My friend had the jacketed shrimp and the crispy pork basil. I tasted his and like the jacketed shrimp I enjoyed. I wouldn't recommend this spot in the silver spring area if you are looking for Thai food or even Asian fusion. Personally I would place it at one of the lowest of the Thai restaurants I have visited. But if you are looking for a late night Thai spot, this location is more than likely the only option. read more

One of my favorite Thai places in the area! The food is aways delicious and comes out quickly. I got the pineapple fried rice and the flavor was rich and it came it the cutest little pineapple bowl. It was also so filling with a few different kinds of meat. I ended up taking about half of it home. I also got some custard sticky rice dessert. It was also pretty yummy. While the service can be a bit slow, the food is always worth it. They also do pickup and delivery which is much faster and works during busier days. Our waiter was super friendly and the food was perfect. We had mussels as an appetizer which came with a sweet and spicy sauce. I had the pad see ew which was super filling and flavorful. My boyfriend had the lamb in two seasons but omitted the coconut lamb since he isn't a fan of coconut milk. He said he enjoyed it. Lastly, for dessert we had the lychee cheesecake. While it tasted good, it just seemed to be a small slice of plain cheesecake with one piece of lychee fruit on top. Had I known this, I would have skipped ordering it. Nothing special here. I made a reservation by phone beforehand, but there were empty tables available. The service was great and the food came quickly! We loved the Seafood Hot Pot and Fried Rice. I enjoyed the food here. I had the drunken noodles with chicken. I chose level 3 spice and it was spicy! If you are not someone who likes spicy food I recommend level 1. Although the noodles were spicy, it was still flavorful. My date had the pineapple fried rice. It came in a wooden pineapple bowl and we were expecting an actual half pineapple. The pineapples didn't taste fresh. He also asked for level 3 spice and it was too much to bear. The place was nice and quiet. Even with a baby shower happening in the private room, it was still quiet enough to have a conversation. I also had the Thai iced tea which was good. The waitress was nice but not very attentive. Food: The steamed dumplings were fairly small for $5 but were pretty tasty with the sauce. The crabmeat fried rice was moist, but did have not much flavor. It was semi bland to me and it could have used more sauce in it. The portion size of the fried was decent. Service: The food came out pretty quickly. Our server came around to see if we needed anything regularly and refilled my water without being asked. Although when we were there between 5:15-6:30, it was not busy at all for peak time. Let's start with a general truism: a-okay is a-okay. If you go to Thai at Silver Spring, you are not going to get bad food. If you go to Thai at Silver Spring, you are not going to get great food. The food here is very consistent. Consistently mediocre. It's not expensive and the service is fine. It is the epitome of three stars. I've been here several times and each time the food was fine. Today (when I realized I hadn't written a review for this location yet), I had the Thai Curry Noodle Soup (alleged to be "Egg noodles with marinated chicken, carrot, potato, onion, and spicy massaman curry"). It was fine. The noodles were under-cooked but just a little (they MIGHT have been twice cooked which can also make them seem "al dente"). The "marinated chicken" was definitely boiled and by probably an extra fifteen minutes too long. It tasted like it came straight out of a chicken noodle soup. It was labeled as being spicy but if by "spicy" they mean salty, then it was spicy (but it wasn't spicy...at all). Generally the soup was a-okay and you could sense that it was supposed to be Thai flavored. Again, the service was fine. The people were pleasant. The decor is okay. The music (lots of Maroon-5) was a little odd...but not off putting. Here's the bottom line: if your goal is to eat a meal that isn't bad, then you can go here. Unfortunately, this restaurant has joined the large community of restaurants in which the quality and quantity of food has diminished since the start of the pandemic. I used to frequent this restaurant a lot before the pandemic. However, in the past year alone, I have noticed consistently smaller food portion sizes and a reduction in the quality of food offered. Most recently, I ordered the Drunken noodles (beef) and was given a small sized plastic container of food (granted, I was dining in and not out of the restaurant). The drunken noodles were somewhat bland and absent of a few key ingredients that make most drunken noodles delicious. The only redemptive quality about my meal was the Thai iced tea, which continues to be traditional and authentic. The quality of customer service is inconsistent at best, and largely unpredictable. There is really only 1 waitress on staff now who makes eye contact and is attentive to customers. The others seem to roll their eyes, disengage, and don't check in on you until it's time to collect the check. It's unfortunate that a lot of their original staff members have left, because the quality of customer care has certainly left with them. Overall, I would not recommend eating at this restaurant, as there are many other Thai restaurants in the area, and this one simply doesn't stand out anymore. read more

I'm very disappointed. Friend and I had dinner she had a curry dish and felt sick. While she was in the bathroom, I paid, but she wanted to sit and have a cup of tea. I ordered a thai tea and she hot tea. We drank the tea, and the waitress was not around, so we left. As we got on the elevator in the parking garage, the waitress grabbed my arm and said I didn't pay for the tea. She hands me the bill, and it's $10.07 for a tea bag and thai tea. Mind you, I had tipped her over 20% on a meal that got my friend sick. Never will I support a business like this. To run after someone for not paying for a tea bag that probably cost them 5 cents. I feel like this is a good place to take someone who is a real newbie with Thai food. If you are a connoisseur, maybe this isn't the spot for you. (For instance, I, being a snob about Thai food, felt very sniffy because these guys did not give me a spoon. How am I supposed to eat without a spoon?!! That's not how Thais roll!) But okay, let's look at the good stuff: First of all, they have inside seating. In this astounding year, I'm actually really happy to find this! They're very very serious about maintaining hygeine and minimizing contact -- they don't even give you the menu; you have to scan the QR code and see it on your phone. They use all paper and plastic for service. My dining companion, The Queen of the Damned, had not been out in a very long time. We both enjoyed this meal a lot. Service was pretty good. There were four standouts from the things we tried. The Curry Puffs were crisp and savory. The special of the day, Crispy Pork with Basil, was everything you could want. The true winner, Larb Kai, really knocked my socks off. Despite the slightly lower rating I had to give this place, I would definitely go downtown just to eat this Larb again. And the old stalwart, Sticky Rice with Mango -- well, it never fails to please. They had a generous selection of vegetarian items on the menu. Like most places these days, there's a disparity in portion sizes between carry out and dine in. Dining in, one gets a decent amount of food (albeit everything is the victim of shrinkflatio on). Ordering to go, one definitely gets smaller portion sizes. As far as taste and presentation, in house the food looks appealing and smells as good as it tastes. Carry out is just the generic black plastic rounds, white and brown cardboard boxes. No presentation. Nothing to see here. Same great taste as dine in, just smaller portions. At dine in the staff seemed a bit "annoyed". I have no idea what that "attitude" was about but we didn't let it detract from our adult night out dining experience. Carry out took forever. Like...did they chase down, catch, kill, prepare and cook our food once they received our order? I would swear they drove out to the waterfront for those crabs as long as it took (but I digress). This restaurant had been one of my favorite restaurants since Feb. 2008. I have consistently patronized this establishment since that time. Unfortunately, the NEW HELP (i.e. new waiter and new waitress on the daytime shift) are behaving in such a way that will turn away good, loyal customers like myself. About 3 months ago, I had the tip on my $21.68 lunch bill increased by the waitress without my authorization or my consent. I raised this issue with management and was reimbursed for the unauthorized, additional, unmerited, unearned, stolen gratuity. From that point going forward, I made a personal decision to just pay for my food and not deal with the tip dynamic especially since the lunch time visit did not require a lot of work from the waiter or waitress. I just wanted to enjoy my good food, pay for it and go back to work. For context, I am a professional who conducts myself as a such and usually am wearing a suit whenever I visit this restaurant. Fast forward to 2 days ago, Dec. 6, 2023, I ordered my lunch time meal, enjoyed it and paid for my bill. After I left, the young, new Indian waiter walked outside of the establishment about 30 yards and tapped me on my shoulder to confront me about not giving him/them a tip (i.e. extra voluntary $ out of my pocket). I was extremely appalled, immediately offended and felt HIGHLY DISRESPECTED to have this cowardice young man hound me down as if I had stolen something. THIS IS NOT A GRATUITY INCLUDED establishment. He commenced to asking me 30 feet OUTSIDE of the restaurant what is my problem with the service. My problem is with the thirstiness of these new staff to 1. try and steal more of a tip 3 months ago and 2. walk me down outside to QUESTION and INTEROGATE me about an additional $3.25 they thought or felt they were owed. So I stepped forward closer to the coward's face and said, are you comfortable with me standing this close to you, almost nose to nose? He said, no. Then, I walked closer and asked him the same question. He said no. At that point I said, this is exactly how you just handled me as a person and as a customer. IT WAS HIGHLY DISRESPECTFUL. The tough guy wasn't so tough anymore. Again, all of this over $3.25 which they covertly tried to steal 3 months earlier. Lastly, when I went in to see the Manager, no management was present. So the new young waitress doubled down on the disrespect by telling me, "you will have to get your orders to go from now on" since you do not tip. Once more, all of this over $3.25 which I was initially giving them EVERY WEEK during my lunchtime visits until they decided to STEAL from me. They being this new waitress and new Indian waiter. This has never happened to me in my life and this also has never happened to me at this establishment until these two new staff joined. Long story short, I am sadden that my favorite restaurant of 15 years has hired such low grade, money-hungry staffers who think nothing of disrespecting a long-time customer or any customer for that matter. DO BETTER and get rid of this waiter who will walk outside and put his hands on a customer to interrogate about gratuity he think he's entitled to receive one way or another. read more

I have come here with my good friend for quick lunch for about 5 years now. Their food and service has been solid and consistent. The lunch hour specials are excellent in portions and value. I love their curry puffs and drunken noodles combo for lunch. For take home meals, their red curry is nice and fragrant. I can only wish they wouldn't put so much Thai eggplants in them but it's my fault for failing to specify that ahead of time. The servers are very fast and efficient without rushing the customers. No matter how busy the restaurant gets, I've never waited more than 10 minutes for my food to arrive. Parking is not validated but it's easy to park at least in the garage. I've never paid anything more than $2 whenever I parked in the garage. If you so happen to take classes at Maryland Youth Ballet across the street, I'd recommend coming here afterwards. You'd probably love the selections of protein packed and savory meals without weighing you down. read more

Secondly: the service was good i will give them that, they checked on our table many times and made sure we were ok however they forgot one of the item which didnt arrive til the end of the meal. Thai tea was a little watered-down and a little over sweeter then other places. The thing i didnt like anout this restaurant is they included the tips on our check without telling us we were 4 adults and 3 toddlers who didnt order nor eat much. I really enjoy Thai food especially on Fridays so I decided to try this place out passing by Silver Spring area. From my knowledge this place is a chain of Thai at Laurel (not sure which came first). Anyways, went in and got a seat very quickly which was nice. The menu has bunch of different Thai foods and they all sound delicious. The interior is nice and simple but has a "royal" feeling to it. They also have a full bar here. Another plus is that the tables aren't so cramped and too close to one another. Despite the variety on the menu, I had to go with Pad Thai with Chicken and peanuts on the side, fried calamari, and Tom Yum Mushroom soup. The Pad Thai was very good, had the right amount of flavor (some places make it very strong) and the noodles were soft but chewy. The chicken in it though was a bit dry and tough, but it still tasted pretty good. The fried calamari was very good (a bit greasy though) especially with the sweet chili sauce. Loved it. I am not a big fan of the soup though because it's pretty sour and I don't really enjoy sour food. The price wasn't terrible either, of course, Thai food isn't always cheap but this was reasonable for the amount of food we got.
