    Tom Kha soup
    Ken L.

Give em a shot, they recently opened (takeout only) in the same plaza as Yu Noodles (across from Bob's). We got the: Thai fried chicken wings Tom Kha Soup Penang Curry medium heat Pad See Ew medium heat The flavors are more concentrated than most Thai we've had here, they say they spend a lot of time infusing the herbs into the sauces which is why it tastes stronger. The owner has a few restos in Thailand and is trying out his first business in the US. Hopefully they get more business because each dish was fantastic. The Thai Fried wings I particularly liked; I always order fried wings at Thai restaurants because I like the fish sauce based sauces and they definitely get it there extra dank.

    Pad Thai at GMT
    Dan R.

OK, so realized I am way behind in writing a review for GMT so apologize for that. I first visited in the spring after hearing about this new entry to the Thai dining scene in Rockville. This is a small addition to the increasingly competitive Thai restaurant scene, but it's great to have it! Clearly a family operation. Primarily for takeout as there is only bench seating inside and the last time I was there a couple of picnic style plastic tables/chairs out front. Just a parking lot in front (this is just down from Yu Noodles) so not really a destination for lunch or dinner. However -- on my visits service is VERY friendly. The menu has been upgraded. Pad Thai on my first visit was very good, though I always stress to new Thai restaurants the need to add sufficient scallions and push the flavor close to Thailand-level Pad Thai (fish sauce is the important ingredient obviously) and not "dumb it down". I would apply the same advice to other dishes as I often find that new Thai places are laying off the heat. I'm sure prices have gone up a bit since GMT opened and it's a difficult situation now with costs going up across the board. But I would urge the owner(s) to do everything they can to keep prices for key dishes in the sub-$20 range. Too many other Thai restaurants have allowed prices to leap over $20 -- one new place in DC has dishes at $28 and above -- really crazy. It is possible to stop in at GMT and eat there if you don't mind sitting at the long thin bench table inside. Major competition for GMT invludes Bangkok Garden on Rockville Pike, which is opening yet another branch soon in Kentlands area, or has already . . . Thai Cuisine, which has always been superb, Amina Thai off Nicholson, and Thai Rock, the excellent though a bit expensive newcomer also off Rockville Pike. Sister's Thai at Cabin John remains very good but prices have risen there. Siriwan Thai on Darnestown Rd/Rt 28 has also been excellent. And The Thai House in Gaithersburg continues to get high marks. So my main advice for GimmeMoreThai: keep up the heat and/or offer spice/heat levels on the dishes that deserve and require it. I will be back to sample other dishes and wish Theeratham all the luck in survival in this competitive area.

I have been coming here for take out atleast 3-4 times and every time it has been a good and delicious experience. They always text discounts to order online and honestly this drives me to order from them. Online ordering is easy and seamless. The Pad Thai is solid. Even when you make it not spicy (for the kid), it still has flavor. The Drunken noodle is also good, although a bit too much string beans for my liking but the flavors are still there. Their TomKha soups are very solid choices for the recent cold days we have been having. And the best part the guy in the front always remembers me and gives me chilli sauces without asking. Place is small so not alot of seating inside. Mainly just for take out.

pad kee mao, ka-prow, green curry, crispy chicken yum zap

This may be my new favorite Thai place in the Rockville area! I tried the Pad Kee Mao with chicken, the Ka-Prow with pork, the Crispy Chicken Yum Zap, and the Green Curry with chicken, and everything was delicious. The seasoning was not too salty or too sweet, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. The Crispy Chicken Yum Zap was probably my favorite - I loved the tangy Yum dressing and the chicken was fried perfectly crispy. I think their fried chicken wings would probably be great also! The drunken noodles were also really good and had the ideal bouncy, chewy texture. Also, the prices are super reasonable, especially compared to other Thai restaurants around the DMV. Definitely will be back to try out other things on the menu!

I got the Scallion Oil Noodles - chewy, hand pulled noodles in a smooth oil dressing. Pair it with the chili oil kimchi for a nice contrasting crunch. My favorite, however, was the Tofu with Century Egg Salad - a small bowl with cubes of soft tofu and quartered century egg and chili oil. Lots of textures and tastes thrown into a tiny little bowl. Be careful - as proof that this place is authentic, their "vegan" vegetable tofu noodle soup is served in beef broth. But once you hammer out the details of the ingredients, the taste is worthwhile. Plenty of others feel the same way - we arrived when they just opened for the day, so we got a seat, but by the time we left, there was a line out the door. If you haven't tried Chopin Noodle House yet, you're missing out!

Ordered the beef combo knife slice noodle soup, pork soup dumplings, pork wontons with homemade spicy sauce, and the pan fried pork buns. The pan fried pork buns were the clear MVP here, perfectly crispy on the outside with that satisfying crunch, but soft and fluffy inside. Super filling too, which is always a win in my book. The beef noodle soup was solid comfort food with good portions, and the dumplings hit the spot. Only minor thing - I wished the "spicy sauce" had more kick to it. Could've used some extra heat, but that's me being picky. For the price and portion sizes, this place delivers (pun intended). You're getting a solid amount of food that actually tastes good. Would definitely order again, and those pork buns are going to be a repeat item for sure.

Was feeling hangry because I had planned on stopping at Hard Times for a bowl of chili -and found out they were closed on Mondays. So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? Protein is protein, baby!). Just means I need to come back, and I will, as quickly as I can.

It's usually packed with Asian folks who come for A&J's dim sum-style food. The food is described as "Northern style" Chinese, and it's definitely not Americanized. I've also enjoyed Ma La Er Si (sliced pigs ears with hot and spicy seasoning) and Pi Dan Dou Fu (tofu with Thousand Year Egg) - things I doubt will EVER show up on a menu in my hometown. I have kept this place in the back of my mind, with fond memories, however, have not visited in some years due to multiple moves around the country. Recently, my friend was organizing a casual gathering for our friend group, and asked ChatGPT if there were any good recommendations for food in the area that was affordable and delicious, and A&J came up as a top choice. So I came back to A&J after almost 10 years, and the food was just as good as I remembered. The decor remained simple and unchanged, but this is very typical of Asian restaurants. The menu was large, and it's easy to order by circling items you want on the paper menu. We had a mix of noodle soup bowls (so many different flavors and styles) and appetizers, and everything we tried was delicious. Our bill came out to less than $25 per person with tip. I could imagine more pretentious Chinese restaurants downtown upcharging a lot more for lower quality Chinese food (Queen's English, for example). It was so good and affordable, that I actually ended up coming back the next day with a different friend. Overall, excellent experience, and I will be back again soon! One interesting tidbit, my coworker who grew up in the Midwest and only eats meat, potatoes, absolutely no vegetables, started going here for lunch and loves it. I think flour-based items (noodles, dumplings, buns) are really the star of the restaurant, and this can be enjoyed across different taste palates! I hope you will give this place a try.

A solid spot for sharing with a group, and I'd happily return to explore more of the menu. I really wanted to love this place. The soup dumplings are among the better ones in the area. While the wrappers aren't as thin or chewy as the very best, you can tell they're handmade, and I'll always appreciate that. I'd recommend sticking with the pork soup dumplings since they were rich, savory, and full of umami. The crab version unfortunately didn't have any noticeable crab flavor and tasted almost identical to the pork. The duck came in a generous portion and is a great choice for anyone who enjoys sweeter flavors. The watercress was fresh and plentiful, but it could have used much more garlic. We ended up adding the wonton chili oil and dipping it for extra flavor. The cucumber was delicious, but the portion was way too small. The bean curd was cooked well, though there wasn't enough pork for a dish that was supposed to feature it. The fish was another highlight with light spice, a crispy exterior, and perfectly cooked, tender meat. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more dishes.
