The BBQ is wonderful, coleslaw is good, not sweet, the beans and Mac and cheese was delicious not your typical Mac and Cheese but good. 4 different BBQ sauces which are all good. Service is good, order at register then they bring it to the table which is great. There is a little shop shirts and other gifts also simple &southern home cooking to go, small bar, patio (covered) and live music. Best bbq I've had in a while. My husband and I went for dinner on a Friday night and it was pretty busy but still plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We walked to the counter and were greeted by a nice gentleman. We got the spicy pork rinds (which we left behind...) and the large sampler with potato salad and a side salad. The salad was nice and fresh, the potato salad was a little sweet to me, but it was still nice. The large sampler was A lot of food! Between us two we didn't even finish all the pork. We enjoyed the wings, they were cooked to perfection, great flavor, and good skin. Same with the chicken - also juicy. Pork was tender and tasted great with the spicy bbq. We opted to sit at the bar, and both got an old fashion. Bartenders were nice and attentive as well. They had live music outside and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. What I noticed about Dolans outside in the parking lot was the amazing smell of grilled bbq. I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich with a side of cole slaw. They have a bucket filled with not one, not two, but five big sauces in various shades of heat levels. If you need it a little spicier there is also there hot sauce added in that bucket too. The staff was very friendly and fast. It took one bite of my brisket sandwich to know that this would be my new favorite BBQ spot in town. Our first lunch experience was great. I had the small sampler with 1/4 chicken, pulled pork, 1 rib, and 1 side (fries) for $12. My wife had the turkey plate with 2 sides (Brunswick stew & slaw). The pulled pork was the best thing I ate. The chicken was OK and the rib was OK. My wife found the turkey pretty dry, but her sides were good. Unfortunately, while we were eating, the air conditioning ducts over our table sprang multiple leaks and the waittress had to put buckets on our table to catch the water. read more

The general consensus around town is that, amongst the many bar b que places in and around it, Dolan's is the place to be. This being said, and having had my fill of BBQ on this trip home to Georgia, the vox populi was put to the test; and, a visit to Dolan's had to be made. This time, however, the words of W.T. Sherman rang true: "Vox Populi? Vox Humbug". Arriving just before 6:30 PM on a Friday, with only an hour to spare, I was pleased to have been able to immediately place my order at the counter, and, drink in hand, be seated at a table, in spite of the fact that the place was quite busy, with people flowing in and out steadily. The atmosphere was just what you'd expect for a BBQ place, comforatable, with a hint of honky tonk in the bustling bar area. One note of concern, consequently, was that a couple had allowed, thier presumed toddler to roam across the floor barefoot, and at times on hands and knees, without raising the interest of either management or staff, the latter stepping around or over him, as needed. While my eldest daughter and her boyfriend busied themselves assuring me of the quality meal to come, the meal was indeed served, all within ten minutes. I had ordered rib plate, reasonably priced at $13.00. Included with the meal were two sides; my choices being the delicious, hearty and firm textured, mac and cheese, and the obligatory Brunswick stew, which I found to have a nice tangy flavor, packed full of tasty "Brunswick stew stuff". "But", you say, "this is four star review at the least, so far". "Do your taste buds deceive", you ask. No, sadly not. The plate came with three ribs, the first being cold and dry, the second being warm, but dry and the third, well, as Goldilox would agree, was just right. Sampling each of the three, unremarkable but not unpleasant, sauces provided did little to improve upon the ribs; but, rest assured, all hope in Dolan's is not lost. Both my daughter and her boyfriend professed satisfaction with their meals; going so far as to offering me samples. Yes, the mouthful of pulled pork was quite moist and tender; but, the die had been cast for me; and, three stars were all I could muster. read more

Stopped in at lunch on the way through town, the have a smoke house in the back and I smelled it before I saw it. Counter lady recommended pork plate, came with two sides. Stopped in after a cheer competition. Cool inside sports-bar/ family reataurant fusion vibe. The barbecue was some of the best Ive ever had, especially the 1/2 chicken so flavorful and not dry. When the old McDonalds was being stripped bare, everyone in Statesboro eagerly watched to see what would arise. Then, all of a sudden (or so its seemed) this place called Dolan's was now open. I went in with a number of friends, and we grabbed a table and then went up and oredered. I'd never been there before, so i took myn time reading the menu, and there was enough stuff i wanted to eat that i ended deciding to order their sandwich plate piled high with all of the different barbacued meats. Couldn't promnounce what it was called when i ordered it, and i dont remember what it was called now,(hahaha). After I sat down, the son of the owner came over and we chatted for a awhile, and i have to say that a nicer young man (other than my sons) id be hard pressed to say id met. He told me the reason their brisket was not yet on the menu was they were bringing oin the appropriate equipment to allow to "brisketize" (my word) while barbecuing all of the rest of the meats on their eqisting cookers and smokers. All i can say is its going to take me a while to eat everything they cook that sounds good, so i may become a regular visitor to Dolan's. read more

BBQ is pretty good if you can get it. Open for dinner service but they usually have a few things run out and they don't tell you until you try to order it, which is frustrating when you've already decided and have to choose something different. If they run out they should tell you before you order or have a sign saying what's available. read more

I realize Dolan has just opened and hopefully should get better. My husband and I could not wait to try them. This criticism is only to help them improve because everyone loves barbeque. Well my first visit was not delicious. My husband's ribs were not good and my barbeque was just ok. The tea was like drinking water and you cannot run a restaurant in the south without good tea. Our fries and Mac and cheese were not very good either and on top of that it was pricey. They have work to do but I'm not giving up yet. This was my first visit to Dolan's. The restaurant is well maintained. The ticket times are short & the food is good, as is the service! I really do not see any negatives here. Good flavorful food, good service, very reasonably priced. If I could offer one improvement, it would be the menu selection. I tried to order 1/4 barbecued chicken & was told that their smallest portion was 1/2 chicken! Too much for a senior! Anyway, enjoyed the visit, will be a return customer! This place is a -kinda- hidden gem! I got the pork plate with mac n cheese and brunswick stew. Both sides are amazing and taste 100% homemade. The pork was the epitome of smoked flavor and it was so juicy! The only cons I have to add is that the plates come with two pieces of untoasted, unbuttered white bread. It would be better if it were served with buttered texas toast, but that's definitely something I can live without. The pork also came out room temp and not hot, but I'm not picky, as it wasn't actually cold. The sauces are awesome, I especially liked the Grapevine Road Red one! There's also a cute sweets shop located right inside the building where you can grab dessert. There's a well sized, full service bar, too, and an outdoor patio. 100% will be coming back. read more

My friends and I were super excited to try their oyster special tonight but were thoroughly disappointed. They came un-shucked which was fine, we've shucked oysters before. However they were shut so tight it was impossible to open. After attempting every single one, we asked for help. But not one employee knew how to open them. Not even a manager. I was genuinely confused as to why something would be on the menu if the staff had no idea how they worked or how to help the customers. We asked for a refund as we were not able to eat them whatsoever, but we're told we could not be refunded. Which again, I have never had happen anywhere before. The waitress staff then proceeded to laugh at us and talk about it in the kitchen, even though they couldn't open them either.
