We stopped here for lunch when we first hit Statesboro. First, I want to say that we had our corgi with us and Gnat's Landing (haha I get the 80s tv reference) is very dog friendly. Clawdia sat at the table and the server found her a banana, her favorite treat, after the long car ride. As far as the humans go, we all enjoyed our meals as well. They have a good lunch menu and prices were reasonable for other items as well. I enjoyed the popcorn shrimp while my daughter raved about the shrimp and grits. My wife also enjoyed the mahi sandwich. Service was fast and friendly despite a large lunch crowd. We ate on the porch since it was a nice day. The service at this place was excellent. Lots of variety on the menu with some interesting options. However, the food was nothing crazy, it was good but I have had better. Definitely probably one of the better restaurants in the area though. The Diet Coke was really good. The fried okra was not. Well priced for the food. The restaurant lives up to its name as there are a lot of gnats. Once the staff turned the fans on it was not as bad. My chicken parm sandwich was good, but probably wouldn't order it again and would stick with more classic options. This used to be Archibalds back in the day. Switched over about 15 years ago. We've seen this place many times but it was always packed. In town for FFW at GSU and saw rooftop patio looked empty so we swung on in. Not a ton of parking unless you park in lot adjacent to them. However, lots of seating options! Outdoor covered seating, rooftop covered seating and indoor. It was pretty packed down below but we grabbed 2 rooftop bar seats up top. From there, everything was perfect. Honestly, this place was the best I've eaten at EVER in the 'Boro. 5 stars on atmosphere, food, view and service. We opted for brunch menu but did the pretzel appetizer with beer cheese. The beer cheese was thicker than normal but good. I did the French toast burger with fried okra. Daaayum, tasted like a fluffy McGriddle but much larger! I could barely finish it. GET THE LEE'S SAUCE FOR DIPPING! It's like the Zax sauce but with more tang and kick. We accompanied our meal with a pitcher of electric lemonade (a Statesboro staple, going back to the days of Wild Wings & Dick's Dawg House). Parking lot is small, but we got a spot. They have a really nice outside eating area, we ate inside. We were seated and waited on right away. Service was very good. We had a shrimp platter and a fish platter. My wife had her shrimp fried and I had the fish blackened, both were excellent. Sides were fresh and tasty. I upgraded one of my sides for a salad. I was expecting a small salad but I was wrong. My salad was pretty large and very tasty. Neither of us finished all our food only because we couldn't eat anymore. We stopped in town for lunch on our way to Augusta. This place is conveniently located right across from Georgia Southern University. It is very spacious with plenty of indoor, outdoor, bar and upstairs seating. The menu is very large with plenty of appetizers, sandwiches, wraps, and entrees. Delicious lunch today at this college town trendy restaurant. My wife had the Philly steak sandwich with onion wings. I had one of the most tasty dishes I have ever had, the Eagles's Nest. Cool and casual spot to visit, especially when going to Georgia Southern University. We stopped by for a weekday afternoon lunch, and we're fortunate to get a spot in their parking lot. Our server, Braeden approached quickly, and her service was efficient throughout. Seating is available either inside or out, and there is quite a bit of seating once inside. I got the shrimp wrap which was decent though unexceptional, and my wife got the barbecue sandwich with some of the best onion rings I think I've ever had. Pricing is very reasonable averaging less than $20 per person all in, including tip and tax - they do charge a credit card surcharge of 3%, but that added up to less than $1 based upon our meal. Went after a track meet on a busy Friday night. Tried a few other restaurants in the area but no wait here at about 7 PM! Parking was a little tricky but got served right away and sat outside on a perfect spring evening. Service was very friendly and the cornhole was a nice touch to keep us entertained while we waited for our food (took a while to come out but they were very busy and we weren't in much of a hurry). Our waitress was VERY nice. Food came out a tad cold and the portions weren't huge. Knocked down a star for the long food wait and food quality (decent but not bad). I don't like writing bad reviews. Not my thing. So here are the BEST things about this place.... Onion rings: The batter was good. It was crispy and the onions were soft and sweet. They would have been a 10/10 if they weren't fried in old frying oil. The price: Not upset that I can still find burger and fries for less than $10. I don't mind the $1.00 up charge for spicy mayo if it was fresh. It may have been left out a little too long before the lid was placed on so it had a slight crusting. The Texas toast: What can I say. It's Texas toast lightly toasted. They got that one right. See picture for my $13 non existent Mahi Mahi Sandwich on Texas toast. They didn't tell me they were out of fish, but instead did the best they could. The water. The water was cold. The hostess moved with lightening speed to bring us water which I appreciated on a hot summer day. The hostesses: They both greeted us, sat us, served us our beverages. Once our food came, we waited and waited before one of the hostesses had to grab us some silverware, and would not allow me to take another step stating "let me bring them to you". First the good: The food was not expensive, which is great considering that it pretty much sucks. The atmosphere was cool, the tables are not too close together however not far enough apart that we missed out on the interesting conversation that one of our neighbors was having. Our server was great, he pretty much steered us away from some of the crappier menu items which considering the taste of pretty much everything aside from the crab balls and pasta salad that we tried, left me in awe. I pretty much knew what was up when he told us not to get the chips w/ salsa because the salsa was trash. Like wait.... WHAT??? So as mentioned the crab balls appetizer was great, loved their spin on cocktail sauce, the tartar sauce was just okay. And my husband liked the pasta salad. The bad: The chips with chili queso was very underwhelming. The chips tasted stale and the dip pretty weak as far as flavor. The fried shrimp in the Caesar salad wrap was fried too hard, too salty, and pretty much bland. I did appreciate the salad dressing though! And the onion rings were deep fried trash. Didn't even finish them all and there were only FIVE. Lastly per my husband the burger wasn't good at all. He ate only about half before deciding it wasn't worth it finishing the rest. His saving grace... the pasta salad! I think our server knew how we felt about the food when he asked us if we needed to-go trays and we declined. I would recommend not going to this place at all but if you are inclined to go try the crab balls and ask the waiters/waitresses for their opinion on the menu items so you know which ones to definitely avoid. And lastly give the waiters/waitresses a generous tip because as bad as the food was, it could have been worse. This is nice local place to eat. We order the Pimento cheese dip. It was very delicious with little kick. I would say it could use more crackers. We had left over dip to use on our entrees if we wanted. I think it would had been even better if it had warmed pita bread, but that is just me. I unfortunately did not get a picture of my husband's burger his way. Because it looked very yummy. I know it was messy. With bacon and fried egg on top. I got the shrimp platter with fries and house salad. The house salad was delicious on a hot day. I like that they add red bell peppers to the house salad which is different but good. The dressing I tried was the Parmesan peppercorn which is homemade. It was delicious. I think I could have dipped everything in it. My fries were okay. My shrimp were good grilled but not much flavor or seasoning to them. The tartar sauce really made up for it. The hushpuppies I was worried about because they were very dark. They were equally delicious and little sweet and not dried out. We made such a great choice for lunch. I would love to go back and try several other things on the menu.
