This 2025 review is for the Dolce Gelato on Reguliersbreestraat 7 in Amsterdam, which I think is their new location. Five stars for absolutely fresh made (to order) "Poffertjes" (mini Dutch pancakes) with a choice of several different sauces. I must admit €12 for 12 tiny donuts seemed a bit steep, but they were so fresh that it was worth it! They also have lots of different kinds of waffles, gelato, and sweet things like that. Very good service and I like the fact that the shop borders two streets, so you have two sides with a different ambiance to choose from where to sit. Wanted to leave a review even while the shelter-in-place is still in place. When tourism starts back up, I hope this is informational. Essentially, it's a sweets shop. Gelato, crepes, waffles, and donuts galore as well as coffee. The main draw is its location is just off of Dam Square, where Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam (Royal Palace Amsterdam), De Nieuwe Kerk (The New Church), and the white National Monument obelisk is. Dolce & Gelato Bio is marketed as being kind of Italian based with its gelato and crepes, the former being supposedly semi-organic but I'm not completely sure. However, the extravagant and fun waffles are very Amsterdam-ish and the churros, doughnuts, and cupcakes are just their own general thing. All in all, it really is just generally a bakery/ice cream/dessert place. As usual, the window displays, with its various colorful desserts for these kinds of places, are pretty amazing to look at. We stopped here on our way out of the square and had some gelato. They had a mango yogurt I really enjoyed and overall, I thought the ice cream was tasty. The problem is that it wasn't that memorable, partially because you see a lot of these kinds of shops with equally extravagant desserts up and down the streets of a lot of Amsterdam. This place's only real draw to me is its location and the ice cream was only so-so. Nice for the day, enjoyable for the occasion, but not someplace I would come back to when there are so many other interesting places. read more

We didn't come here for the gelato but rather the churros. They were really good! This shop is in the heart of the touristy district by the main train station. We passed by on our way to dinner during a long layover in Schipol (we took the train into the city from the airport) and made it a point to stop in before we returned to the airport. The shop has a very cool churros machine. I can totally see this becoming the next kitchen gadget du jour. Although they are not handmade per se, they all are uniform and delicious. There were several different sauces to choose from. The shop also had a cat in residence who was super friendly and couldn't receive enough pets! Not a destination place but definitely worth stopping by if you are in the neighborhood. read more

We wanted something sweet after dinner and saw this place so decided to try it. Since we were in Amsterdam, I had to try a waffle...the gelato looked great, but I was too cold to be eating gelato. It was almost 10pm and the place was pretty packed. They didn't close until much later though, which is nice if you're in the mood for a late night treat. Despite the crowd, there was essentially no wait to order because most people were just browsing all the goodies. I ordered a waffle and got it in almost no time and had powdered sugar sprinkled on top, no Nutella. The waffle had great flavor, but was way thicker and denser than I expected. It was kinda heavy and greasy and I wasn't really feeling it, so I let my friends have some and wound up throwing it away. When I come back, I'll have to try the gelato because the waffle wasn't it for me. read more

One time my waffle was maybe 3 euros and another time it was 8 so I'm sure theres some sort of "tourist special" going on here but I was a total sucker for the many different flavors of waffles they heat up here and then cover in chocolate sauce. This place TOTALLY ripped me off. The guy behind the counter did a bait & switch on me when I was looking for some change. I handed him $30 dollars and while I was looking for $3 more, he claimed I only handed him a $10. He acted like he was was "helping" me and said I owed him another $20. When I told him I gave him $30 already he waived the $10 and said I needed to give him the $20. I swear this place ripped me off!!! BEWARE on the scam artist behind the cash register. Dolce and Gelato just looks so beautiful and colorful from the outside that we just HAD to try it. There are so many options to choose from, but we went with the fresh waffle with warm melted Nutella, and a banana on top. It was incredible. I agree with the negatives as they aren't your typical fresh Dutch waffle. It is very cramped. The flavor however is extremely rich. I'd recommend to keep strolling and skip this chain-like waffle boutique. Hit up something that doesn't involve reheating in a microwave after grilling it. While wandering aimlessly in Amsterdam, we came across these waffle spots that seemed to be a bit "chainy" but the store fronts with piles of waffles lured us in. We were a bit skeptical on how these waffles would taste and the freshness factor. For the most part, they seem pretty fresh and they are always willing to make you a fresh batch should your heart and stomach desire it. It hit the spot after we wandered through the alleys and labyrinths of Amsterdam. We came numerous times and indulged in waffles, crepes and churros.. None disappointed. Too sweet for my taste, it's a chain of dessert that is everywhere along the main roads near the train station. It was kinda pricey and I had strawberry ice cream, chocolate and white chocolate vanilla on a waffle and honestly it was just way too chocolatey and sweet and nothing really too special for its price. My cake was rock hard and when I asked about it the employee(shop owner?) said it would be better if I let him microwave it. I said I would rather get a refund. He didn't like that, so he started arguing that since I took a bite I wasn't entitled to a refund. A 7.5 Euro cake shouldn't have to be microwaved to taste right. This experience ended with him ignoring me for a few minutes then eventually shoving my refund at me and demanding me to leave. My friend didn't even finish his cake yet. Wandering the streets of central Amsterdam after dinner, hubby and I thought it would be fun to grab some dessert from this bright, attractive storefront. I asked the guy behind the counter whether a brownie or a waffle was better. He told me to get the waffle with Nutella on it. €5 later and it was the worst waffle I've ever had. It was hard--so hard it broke the knife he gave me--and sickeningly sweet. I'm accustomed to European desserts being less sweet than American treats, and I like that style better. You would expect a place with such a fancy name to be a bit more, well, fancy. Instead it is dingy and a little dirty inside, with a cramped space for ordering and seating. We came in for ice cream and got some mediocre stuff that isn't gelato, and isn't bio, in spite of those words appearing in the restaurant's name. All the pastries looked horrible and gawdily colored, which my 3-year old was very attracted to but made me want to run far, far away. I suggest you do the same. read more

This place should get shut down for multiple health code violations. The guy was touching food as well as money w his bare hands. He was really rude and was speaking a foreign language to his coworker. The waffles were disgusting and stale. He charged 21 euro for churros and a waffle. He pretended to forget an item and charged another 5. So all in all we paid 26 euro for awful food. I wish I could give it no stars. I can't believe places like this are allowed to operate and get away w it. It leaves a really bad taste. They acted very manipulative. They smiled at first but then as they devised a ploy they were both just moving back and forth and not doing anything. After we waited for our food for what must've seemed like a lifetime they then became very rude and were shaking their heads as if we did something wrong. BE AWARE! This place takes advantage of tourists! We stopped here because they were the only bakery that had dark chocolate as a topping for their waffles. I ordered a waffle and dark chocolate topping and the person behind the counter started to warm it before i paid. When I got to the cashier, she took my 10 and handed me back 2 euros. I told her the sign on the TV says 3.50 Euros for a waffle and 1 Euro for the topping. She and the other guy who was warming my waffle started yelling at each other and she then turned the TV off. I asked if she was going to give me my correct change and she just said the sign is wrong and the guy is an idiot. I was upset and said she was taking advantage of me because i was a tourist and she kept insisting the sign was wrong. Both staff was very rude, they did cheat me with money, they warmed the waffle up in a microwave and the dark chocolate was just chocolate syrup. The waffle and service was horrible. I absolutely regret not going to the bakery next door. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially to any tourists!!! read more

I would like to begin my review with putting an ounce of blame on myself. 2 friends and I went here after dinner and a pot brownie. We were tourists from America, what can I say? However, we were not high enough to deserve the service and treatment we did. In short, they were extremely rude and overpriced. From the outside, the store is inviting, bright, and looks delicious! We saw it earlier in the day and said we'd come back before catching our train to our hotel, and we did. After waiting in line for a couple minutes and picking out what we wanted from the window, my friend H asked for a "kit-kat doughnut" and the guy helping us answered rudely with "with don't have that". (This doesn't matter, but the woman in line behind us made the comment "they must be high and can't decide what they want" and he definitely heard that, because he laughed a bit.) H was referring to a doughnut in the window that had a kit-kat on top, so I told him that. After that, he treated us like we were idiots and laughed at us. My other friend, T, order ice cream and received an incredibly small amount. In no country would it have been an acceptable amount; imagine a single scoop without them going down to get all they can on the scoop or even trying to get much. T looked at it weird and H whispered to her asking what was wrong, but he heard it and asked rudely "what? What's wrong? Tell me." And we didn't know how to respond. I had ordered something that was covered in chocolate, but it was too rich and very dry. I handed over my card to pay. Our total came to $16.48 and it was not at all worth it. I know that we upset him, but he treated us so poorly that I honestly don't care. He had had a long day, but that is no excuse for treating us like idiots. read more

SCAM! Tourist trap! No posted prices, they inflate your bill by suggesting that they are offering you toppings that are traditionally free (chocolate syrup, powdered sugar, etc.). They then charge fees between 1,50 Euro - 3,00 Euro per topping. We had a churro and a plain waffle and our bill was 20 Euro. Food looked impressive through the window but was old crap. My partner and me got a little pastry that was basically all cream with some strawberries, a waffle with lots of cream and a few nuts and a couple of takeaway coffees...Total E 18.50. Afterwards I enquired about the cost of what we had (as we did not get a receipt) and was told the waffles were each E6 and each coffee E2.50, Then one of the guys rectified and said the the waffle was E8 and seconds later the tall guy rectified again and said that the waffle was actually E10!( as if saying:'hey you paid less that you were supposed to, so consider yourself lucky') For E10 I would buy a steak! .Prices were nowhere to be seen, they couldn't agree on prices and did not offer any receipt which I believe they have an obligation to give. When we asked the staff about the lack of prices on display we were answered with total defiance, arrogance and downright rudeness (witnessed by other customers as well) with answers such as''Welcome to Amsterdam''!. Everything could have been sorted out if a receipt had been given to us to clarify everything, and all this t makes you wonder if the owner is fully aware of this situation. On top of this, the window outside displayed a poster saying ''coffee with donut or croissant only E2.50'', with no terms and conditions underneath...we were charged anyway E2.50 for each coffee, in my understanding we should have been given croissant or donut as well? I repeat no especial conditions were on display about this. I walked around other shops from Dolce and Gelato and they all had some form of prices on display...except this one. Why this establishment did not show a menu /panel and instead they were making up prices as they were going? A total disgrace for the Dolce and Gelato brand! read more

Absolutely TERRIBLE. We were recommended the brownie when we asked for something very chocolatey (which it wasn't) and not only was it €6.50, it was the worst brownie we've ever tasted in our lives. They don't have any set prices -- two of their screens advertised different prices for the same items and when we alerted the manager to this he only became very angry at us.
