I didn't realize Dolce Vita was in Southlands until I walked by the other day. We love trying new restaurants especially ones that are close to home so we decided to check it out and we're not disappointed! They have a nice outside seating area but it was threatening rain so we sat inside which was nice.The drink menu had a nice variety. I went with an espresso martini and my husband had the old fashioned. They were both on point. I really enjoyed my Caesar salad, the Parmesan was freshly grated and dressing was good. My daughter had the margarita pizza which tasted good but I thought it was a little different that they put tomato slices on it. I like tomatoes so it was ok with me but not quite traditional. FYI I didn't see a kids menu. My husband got salmon and loved it and I got chicken piccata and really enjoyed it too. Nice portions and I really liked the hearty side of veggies it came with. My husband and I decided to come here to celebrate our anniversary because the reviews were so good. Ambiance was comfortable, our waiter was pleasant. Both of us got the Ribeye & asparagus with a side of pasta. We asked for a sauce to go with our pasta, like browned butter, and our waiter said they cook with margarin. Honestly, that's when we should've just walked out. We ordered the burrata appetizer, it wasn't terrible but definitely not worth $15. When our food got out, the steak was slightly chard and was probably one of the worst steaks we've ever had. My husband's was so tough he couldn't cut it and lost his appetite just over half way through. Needless to say, we left feeling pretty yucky from all the grease but not actually satisfied. Mediocre food with mega prices and service was just meh! Went for lunch we were the only ones in the dining area for quite some time and drinks weren't refilled. Young man who was our server was more interested in chatting with the bartender! They shoved a lot of tables in a very small area, feels kind of cramped to me and we were seated next to the kitchen wall! Tried this place and it has some eh reviews but we had a great experience. Two young guys working the tables and both were very friendly and checked on us. The Espresso martini was so smooth and frothy I loved it. We tried the focaccia with goat cheese spread as our waiter was so enthusiastic about how it was made. We split the salad and carbonara and the salad was definitely smaller side but fine for us. The carbonara was plenty for 2 and very good. Loved the pancetta and peas. My son got the pizza and loved it. Will definitely be back to try more. read more

Mixed feelings: Good, attentive service. Our server, Yadi was excellent. The seating is different with some couches (that were too deep for us). Restaurant is a little small inside. Not a lot of tables for a party of four. And we were near the kitchen door. Not ideal to hear dishes being washed. Food was excellent, even though we had to have one entree remade. It was shrimp scat, but it came with red and green peppers, which was not listed on the menu and none of us had ever had it with peppers. They were quick to remake it and the result was far better. Also note the background music was nice and not too loud ( which seems to be a common problem). Still, we will be back. read more

Really really great place. Newly opened (2 months ago) and what a welcome treat to the neighborhood. A well designed, clean and friendly atmosphere with friendly staff. I would have given it 5 start but for a few foibles with the service - dirty plates lingered after appetizers and entrees etc. Easy to improve & common in new places. I was so excited to try this new'ish Italian restaurant in Southlands, but this will be my first and last visit to them... I write reviews for every restaurant I eat at and most get 4-5 stars (on Google)... They need to 'figure out' what they are doing or they won't be around much longer...sadly... The service was non-existent...we had to flag down anyone working there when ever we needed 'anything'...water refills, no one ever came around, we had to flag down the bus-girl to get refills...no salt and pepper on the table, had to go to the bar to ask for it...the food took over 1 hour to get for our table of 6 and our waiter never, ever came and asked 'how is everything', 'can I get you anything'...mind boggling to me...it was like we were invisible... One of the 6 meals was not even close to what was ordered, their response 'oh, sorry'...She ate it as we were afraid if we sent it back to get the correct plate, it would take forever and everyone else would be done with their meal by the time the correct dish was prepared and brought to her...The food was just 'ok' not a whole lot of flavor to it....I'm a bad cook and don't like to cook, I like to eat out....but even I could have cooked my pasta meal at home as good or better... And the ability for our waiter or the woman who I think was maybe was the manager to communicate with us was extremely difficult, I felt like I was in a foreign country and unable to communicate with ease....the only people working that were fluent in English were the young guys...I understand America is made of Immigrants and people who speak other languages, but....he didn't understand half of what we asked and repeatedly had to go ask someone else... For those that don't eat gluten by choice, like me...they do offer a GF pizza crust option and penne pasta which was very good, not all GF pasta is good...but their penne was. It is quite sad to see a new restaurant at Southlands perform SO badly after only what 4 months or so...they need to figure it out or they'll be gone as it will be a "I went there once, had a bad experience and I won't be going back" type of place...I have lived in this area since 2003, before the mall was even built and have see so, so many restaurants come and go...get it together Dolce Vita, don't be the next restaurant to 'go'... I would also 'recommend' that they find a way for the customer to pay, without the waiter standing over them...perhaps like many restaurants have done with the 'scan the QR Code' and pay yourself... Where to start? The ambience is nonexistent. Our server yadi was pleasant enough. My partner ordered the fettuccine carbonara and added shrimp. It was OK. I ordered the capellini. I also added shrimp to mine. The food came out quickly. My dish had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. It was like there was no seasoning at all, and it was swimming in oil. And not quality olive oil either, it tasted like canola oil. When I told the server she said, oh sorry do you want some red pepper flakes? I noticed the table next to mine have the same issue. As she put it , that food was extremely bland, And all they did was bring, more red pepper flakes. Very odd. when we got the server to finally come back, she brought the bill and we said that we're not paying for the cappellini as it was inedible. She said oh I am not allowed to comp any meals. All I can offer is a free tiramisu. We asked to speak with the manager and she said oh they just left. We were baffled by this! I have never had such a thing happen. We had excellent service from Yadi (not sure of spelling)! I was not a fan of the couch seating but the chairs were quite comfortable. I wouldn't sit at the bar though, the bar stools have no back, no support. A big plus was the music. It was actually background music. Nice and not blasting! Their drinks were excellent and they made their Espresso Martini with actual freshly brewed coffee. We also liked the Margarita. The food was delicious, too. Love, love, love that they use angel hair pasta. (I requested it). The shrimp scampi was also good, but came with green and red bell peppers, which we had never heard of, and didn't like. They graciously and quickly remade it. We will definitely go back. Maybe after a movie! read more

Disorganized Service, Underwhelming Experience - Saved Only by the Main Course I was honestly expecting more from this restaurant based on the hype. Upon arrival, the atmosphere felt bright, loud, and far from inviting -- more chaotic than cozy. We were seated quickly, which was a plus. Our server came by to take drink orders: my wife asked for an Arnold Palmer, and I ordered a Manhattan, specifying one glass of water with no ice. The water came with ice, and my Manhattan was served up, not on the rocks -- not a huge deal, but I should've clarified. Along with the drinks, we ordered the calamari. While waiting for the appetizer, two different servers came by four times trying to deliver food meant for other tables. It was clear there was little coordination or understanding of which tables belonged to whom. Then came the calamari -- and wow, $17 for five baby squids swimming in an oily tomato sauce. Not only was the portion tiny for the price, but the dish clearly called for bread to mop up the sauce. Bread didn't come with it, so we had to order it separately. What we got were five small pieces of focaccia for $5. That should've been included with the appetizer -- it felt like a cheap upsell. Now, the entrees were the saving grace. I had the lamb -- delicious, though overly oily. My wife ordered the sea bass, which was the best dish of the night. The risotto underneath was fantastic -- flavorful and perfectly cooked. So much so, in fact, that my wife asked our server for a side of just the risotto. The server returned with a plate, said nothing, and disappeared until we were finished eating. Not exactly warm hospitality. We ended the night with tiramisu, which was fine. Not memorable, not bad -- just average. Overall, this place is severely lacking in organization, service training, and atmosphere. Two stars -- and that's only because the main dishes managed to redeem the night just enough. read more

Worst experience ever. i had to wave the staff down to order each thing..drinks..then dinner..then questions. All staff including the manger just hung out talking to the hostess The manager was the bartender and screwed up a Grey Goose martini by adding orange bitters. Who does that? Finally, the chicken in the chicken Parmesan had a disgusting consistency, truly looked like a frozen patty, was not crispy as advertised and had a sad see-through piece of cheese on top. We didn't eat anything and literally had to pay our bill and go next-door to have dinner. We were offered a 10% discount on a $72 meal with only one entrée and two drinks. My 16 yo and I went here for dinner last night and it was OK, definitely not worth the price. My child got fettuccine Alfredo and really enjoyed it and I got shrimp scampi, which was OK. We shared a burrata app, which was OK but the tomatoes were store bought and not good. I'm pretty picky about tomatoes but assumed this restaurant would be buying fresh veggies. The worst part was our server, she was very young and even though we were her only table she did not seem to remember we were there often. We heard an intro that another server gave to her table which we had not heard from our server, ie. the chef is from Sicily, etc. Lastly, I was disappointed that they didn't offer fresh parmesan for my child, it was in a small to go cup, and didn't offer freshly grated pepper. Definitely will not be going back for those prices read more

We ordered a simple pepperoni pizza to start out our dinner on a Saturday evening and were genuinely disappointed. For the server to introduce our table saying the chef was from Sicily, I would've expected the pizza to have tasted better than a Sam's Club slice not worse. The cheese was extremely greasy on top with the crust being a bit doughy. The size of the pizza was around 10 inches which was a decent size for 1-2 people depending on how hungry you are. Unfortunately the server stopped coming by once he saw we had only ordered one item so we never got refills for our drinks. It was until we were closing out our tab when he asked if we needed another glass. To be honest, I'm glad we didn't get anything else and we will not be coming back. Really want to like this place. We've been here twice. The first time, the burrata would have been good had it not been served with rock hard pink tomatoes (not sure how they even let it leave the kitchen... clearly the tomatoes were no where near ripe). That's all we had we had was the app. They finally got their liquor license so we went back. Highly underwhelming wine selection (and we aren't picky). Their only chard on the menu retails for $7. At least have a few options. We had the pinot noir (only one option on the menu). Not great, but okay. For food, my husband had had the osso buco. Hard to have bad osso bucu but it wasn't the best he's ever had (meaning it was the worst he's had but it was still good). I had the fettuccine carbonara. The noodles were great. I'll leave it at that. The service was mediocre. Nothing great. Nothing bad. We ordered tiramasu for dessert. I don't compare Italian food against Maggianos... but Maggianos tiramasu blows theirs out of the park. Like others have mentioned, it's weird that they don't serve bread and olive oil/vinegar (never been to an Italian restaurant where you don't at least get bread and butter). Not the end of the world, but it's just weird. I hate chain restaurants so I really want them to make it. I hope they make some changes, though. read more

A Disappointment from Start to Finish I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was too disappointing to ignore. From the moment we sat down at this so-called Italian restaurant, things started to go downhill--and fast. To begin with, the server had no idea what a la milanesa meant. At an Italian restaurant, that's not just surprising--it's embarrassing. When the food finally came out, the lasagna was burnt on both ends and practically inedible. The steak? Clearly frozen, small, and absolutely not worth the sky-high price they were charging for what should've been a thick, freshly cut piece. The drinks were no better. I was offered a warm nonalcoholic beer, and when I asked about it, the server said he could "just put it in the fridge for a minute or two if I wanted." The sparkling water was also served warm. Who does that? When I asked to speak with a manager or the chef, I was told no manager was on site. I could hear the kitchen staff clearly listening to the conversation--but none of them bothered to come out or address the issues. The server, though friendly, was clueless and not trained to handle any of the problems we brought up. To top it all off, despite the poor food, drinks, and service, they didn't comp a single item. We left with lighter wallets and a strong sense of regret. Avoid this place. There are far better Italian restaurants that actually know what they're doing--and don't serve you a microwaved dinner at fine-dining prices. read more

I read the reviews but wanted to check Dolce Vita out. If you're looking for a quaint, low light, romantic place to eat this is not the place. We were looking for great Italian food. Went on a Saturday night and restaurant was more than 50% full. Got seated immediately and greeted by a very nice and attentive server. Server came back and asked about drinks. We ordered and they came out quickly. We ordered lasagna and pasta Al forno. Both came out in a timely manner, prepared very well and served hot. A bit surprised that the entrees did not include either the choice of salad or side of pasta included. Nice portions and had leftovers to take home. Was offered cannolis which we were told were great. The shell was a bit harder than I would have preferred but flavor was very good. I'd say that the only surprise was the cost of the drink as a Moscow Mule had an upcharge for Tito's which wasn't mentioned and $16. In conclusion dinner for 2 with drinks and dessert was under $100. Value was good not great, flavor was very good.I was told they have specials on Mondays which we may try in a couple of weeks read more

Tonight it was a special occasion celebrated my Granddaughter's 17th Birthday at. Dolce Vita Ristorante in Southlands! It was an amazing celebration. Our server exceeded our expectations in every area! We had a party of10 and the lamb was indeed prepared to perfection! Pork medallions, pizza , pasta, fettuccine were all excellent The owner came out to greet us and created a warm and welcoming atmosphere! Great place and we loved the coffee flavored candy drops. Do not visit this restaurant - the food was terrible, the service was even worse. The prices are outrageously expensive. We were offered items and then told they didn't have it - this happened with iced tea, kids menus, receipt for the check ... They served my 5 year old Mountain Dew and not lemonade - never once apologized or fixed it. It's relatively clean and looks modern but that does not make up for all the negative points. Let me start with the food. Me and the wife had spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were okay but the sauce was marginal at best. The problems really started when we asked for mozzarella cheese and they brought us the wing sauce tins with kraft Parmesan cheese. I payed 25 dollars plus a plate for 2 plates of spaghetti and I can't even get fresh mozzarella. Not to mention there was only enough Parmesan cheese for a small kid. That plastic tin was expected to feed 3 people. Next was the bread, any Italian joint worth their salt serves either butter or olive oil with their bread. Nope they gave us 6 pieces of dry bread. Needless to say I was disappointed. They are charging Mangianos prices and serving up Fazoli's style Italian. This one of the few times I left a restaurant and was actually pissed off. Even Fazolis with their breadsticks know they have to put or serve butter with their bread. The service again was okay but the server did not have a clue about serving. Sat us at a table for six but left all the extra silverware on the table. There were only 3 of us. The ambiance was ok but leaving the silverware on the table and high prices for sub par service and food ruined it for me. I dropped a hundred bucks in here. I wish I could get it back and go to Fazolis or Olive Garden for better food. read more

When we informed both the server and the manager, there was no apology and the correct dish was never brought out. We were there for two hours simply because the service was so slow.
