    Espresso Martini -so smooth
    Frantsy R.

Tried this place and it has some eh reviews but we had a great experience. Two young guys working the tables and both were very friendly and checked on us. The Espresso martini was so smooth and frothy I loved it. We tried the focaccia with goat cheese spread as our waiter was so enthusiastic about how it was made. We split the salad and carbonara and the salad was definitely smaller side but fine for us. The carbonara was plenty for 2 and very good. Loved the pancetta and peas. My son got the pizza and loved it. Will definitely be back to try more.

I was so excited to try this new'ish Italian restaurant in Southlands, but this will be my first and last visit to them... I write reviews for every restaurant I eat at and most get 4-5 stars (on Google)... They need to 'figure out' what they are doing or they won't be around much longer...sadly... The service was non-existent...we had to flag down anyone working there when ever we needed 'anything'...water refills, no one ever came around, we had to flag down the bus-girl to get refills...no salt and pepper on the table, had to go to the bar to ask for it...the food took over 1 hour to get for our table of 6 and our waiter never, ever came and asked 'how is everything', 'can I get you anything'...mind boggling to me...it was like we were invisible... One of the 6 meals was not even close to what was ordered, their response 'oh, sorry'...She ate it as we were afraid if we sent it back to get the correct plate, it would take forever and everyone else would be done with their meal by the time the correct dish was prepared and brought to her...The food was just 'ok' not a whole lot of flavor to it....I'm a bad cook and don't like to cook, I like to eat out....but even I could have cooked my pasta meal at home as good or better... And the ability for our waiter or the woman who I think was maybe was the manager to communicate with us was extremely difficult, I felt like I was in a foreign country and unable to communicate with ease....the only people working that were fluent in English were the young guys...I understand America is made of Immigrants and people who speak other languages, but....he didn't understand half of what we asked and repeatedly had to go ask someone else... For those that don't eat gluten by choice, like me...they do offer a GF pizza crust option and penne pasta which was very good, not all GF pasta is good...but their penne was. It is quite sad to see a new restaurant at Southlands perform SO badly after only what 4 months or so...they need to figure it out or they'll be gone as it will be a "I went there once, had a bad experience and I won't be going back" type of place...I have lived in this area since 2003, before the mall was even built and have see so, so many restaurants come and go...get it together Dolce Vita, don't be the next restaurant to 'go'... I would also 'recommend' that they find a way for the customer to pay, without the waiter standing over them...perhaps like many restaurants have done with the 'scan the QR Code' and pay yourself... Price per person $30-50

Always a great experience. I wanted to share some new photos. Had the shrimp scampi. Taste was spectacular with roasted peppers large shrimp and light lemon sauce. Also tired the fettuccine carbonara, which might be a favorite next to the pasta alla vodka. Added grilled chicken to each which just added more amazing.

Spaghetti and meatballs for me and the Marguerite pizza for my boo.

Such amazing southern Italian cuisine. The owners and wait staff are excellent. The portions are generous and the drink selection is fantastic. This was our third time coming in and we have loved it every time.

    Capellini

Where to start? The ambience is nonexistent. Our server yadi was pleasant enough. My partner ordered the fettuccine carbonara and added shrimp. It was OK. I ordered the capellini. I also added shrimp to mine. The food came out quickly. My dish had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. It was like there was no seasoning at all, and it was swimming in oil. And not quality olive oil either, it tasted like canola oil. When I told the server she said, oh sorry do you want some red pepper flakes? I noticed the table next to mine have the same issue. As she put it , that food was extremely bland, And all they did was bring, more red pepper flakes. Very odd. when we got the server to finally come back, she brought the bill and we said that we're not paying for the cappellini as it was inedible. She said oh I am not allowed to comp any meals. All I can offer is a free tiramisu. We asked to speak with the manager and she said oh they just left. We were baffled by this! I have never had such a thing happen. Needless to say, we will never go back there and I would never recommend it to anybody. I can't imagine they'll be in business for very long.

There is a strange smell about the place (think old folks home), I don't know if it is the building, the food, or something else. Ordered the calamari and although technically it could be considered calamari, I would have called it "squid frites", no rings and no tentacles just strips in the shape of fries. The marinara/cocktail sauce was a bizarre combination and did nothing to help the seasonless squid frites. I ordered the combination lunch which consisted of beef ravioli, lasagna, and spaghetti. The ravioli was fantastic and the spaghetti was on point as well. Great red gravy. The lasagna however was over cooked and the noodles soft almost mushy. Ordered 2 meatballs to accompany my dish and they were more mealy than firm. Would not order them again. My friend ordered the steak and cheese (which was almost $30) and was surprised when it came out as the steak was not shredded or sliced but an entire filet which made the price point make a little more sense. The bun was not the expected Italian bread roll/loaf but something else entirely that felt grocery store bought. Additionally, the sandwich arrived soggy so basically my friend had a steak (sans bread) with mozzarella and canned mushrooms on it but certainly not the expected Philly-style steak and cheese. The service once seated was pretty good. Would go back given the same set of circumstances but would steer clear of anything not pasta related.

Our schedule meant takeout was the only option, and in hindsight, we timed it perfectly. We placed our order around 5:15p on a Saturday evening and learned they stop accepting takeout orders once the kitchen gets slammed. Given how small and intimate the restaurant is, that makes complete sense. The dining room only has a handful of tables, a cozy little bar, and a tucked-away patio that feels surprisingly secluded despite being in a strip mall (don't let this deter you). From start to finish, the ordering and pickup experience was seamless. The staff was warm and welcoming, our food was ready exactly when promised, and everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly. We ordered the crispy eggplant along with the bucatini and meatballs. Overall, both dishes were enjoyable and clearly made with care. The crispy eggplant had a nice texture but could have used a bit more seasoning or punch of flavor. The bucatini was satisfying, though the meatballs leaned a little dry and lacked that flavor pop for my taste. The accompanying ricotta was creamy and delicious, but I was hoping for a more pronounced lemon note. Even with those small critiques, we really enjoyed our experience. Bettola has the kind of inviting neighborhood feel that makes you want to come back, and next time we'd love to dine in and soak up the atmosphere instead of taking our meal home.

However, we ended up showing up an hour before our reservation hoping to just get seated and we got in right away. Cassey was our incredible waiter and he made the night very memorable. After learning it was our first time there, he very patiently walked us through the menu and how the restaurant generally worked with serving sizes. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. The ambience was great and cozy. We sat on the patio and it was mildly windy but it still felt nice being kept away in a corner of downtown. Starting with the appetizers, you HAVE TO get the burrata with some bread. It's the perfect flavor combination with the texture of the bread crumbs. Absolutely delicious. The salad was also a really great refreshing balance with the heavier burrata and bread. It's such a simple salad with the most amazing flavors of pickled shallots, buttermilk dressing, and Parmesan. They truly have some of the best cheeses ever. For the mains, I got the lobster tagliatelle and my partner got the lamb rigatoni. We also got smashed potatoes to share with cheese. Everything was impeccable. I was hesitant to get the lobster dish because it's such a low chance that a lobster dish is actually going to taste as good because it's a very difficult dish to perfect but I can confidently say it's probably one of the best ones I've had. The tomato base sauce with celery and chile with the lobster is the perfect combination. I do have to say a DISCLAIMER if you're not good with spicy food it's not for you. It has a pretty strong kick throughout the eating process so do not get it if you can't handle spice. Other than that, it's one of the most flavorful seafood pasta dishes I've ever had. I tried my partners lamb rigatoni and they truly perfected the rendering of it in the sauce and it's such a perfect overall dish with a good serving for rigatoni in general. If you're extra hungry, I would get the cheesy potatoes, they are perfectly crispy on the outside and nice and warm on the inside with the perfect amount of cheese and salt flakes. To close the night, we, of course, got the tiramisu which was very well made. Now, I have been to Paris and actually had it with the best cream on earth so it won't top that. However, it is a close second and probably the best I've had in America. I highly highly highly recommend you try it out. The service is impeccable and Cassey was the best company to have around to talk about celebrations, house of dragon, and having a good night. Thanks for making my birthday a great experience!
