There is no competition and honestly you can tell they don't care. Employees are hard to come by and as one long time employee said...when we ask the new employees to do something they just say no...were not going to be cross trained were not doing this for the rest of our lives...period. There are a few good people left there but let me give you an overall example. I just got back from South Carolina..when I went shopping there in several stores..as I shopped employees asked me directly "can I help you find something?" may I be of service. Or, if I asked why they didnt carry something they said they would check ask management...at Country Mart you get the standard answer..our warehouse doesn't carry it, we can only get what they have or, we've asked no response from management...period. Another example is last mum sale they had about 1015 mums dead dried out in front for 99 cents marked down from 6-7 dollars..reason just to get rid of them. I asked why they didnt carry white corn year round ...Schnucks does as does Dierbergs..bu Country Mart we just dont! Or why no Organic milk, why one day ice cream at 7-8 dollars and next at 3.99. all varieties. Finally the wine department......I asked for a liter bottle instead of general size they said they didnt stop but at their other store they have! Get the picture no customer service

ALTHOUGH, last time I went in there I was sorely disappointed and the meat department. I don't know if it was incompetence or laziness.....I asked to have a 5lbs bottom round sliced at 1/4 inch for jerky. The guy asked if he could do that to another employee and I explained (I shouldn't have to) that I've had it done before. This is the butcher area of the meat department......a lady walked up and tells me it will take forever to get done . I said "to slice a 5lbs bottom round?" She said "ya, you usually need to call in a day before to have something like this done so we have time." Absolutely mind blown . It's take 3-4 minutes tops to slice one. Mind you, this is after I explained I've had it done multiple times. I just laughed and left. I didn't even trust them to slice it at this point. She told me it would take approximately 1 hour to accomplish lol. I left and had it down somewhere else in under 10 minutes. While this place is usually just OKAY, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth after this interaction. Obviously I'll still go back for some things, but I'll be avoiding this meat department. I would rather pay a little more somewhere else than deal with that type of service again.

Also, I experienced an IGA store in Louisiana, where out date items were removed from the "white" store and sent to the "Mexican" store. Being a mid-westerner, I knew this could not happen here.
