All the major departments - produce, meat, seafood, dairy, were stocked almost to overflowing, with good regular and sale prices displayed prominently. The store is brightly lit and the aisles are wide. There are 2 self-checkouts. The employees here are really friendly and chatty. If it ever expands (and if it does well, it should be considered), add some more hot food stations and a salad bar.

Walmart is like a magnet it will draw in customers from the worst to the best. I suggest that if you are concerned about that simply go to walmart.com and actually purchase the items online, after comparing the item with its competitors, also online, and then the store employees will put it in your cart as a completed purchase. Don't be hesitant about asking an employee for assistance or even going to Customer Service for assistance. The perennial scam in all Big Box stores is excessive returns and misuse of the self-payment registers. Be assured that all stores have the same security methods and they are quite good at catching the bad people. If you just want to walk around and shop another suggestion is to call the store and ask them if they have a specific item, and to actually hold it for you. There is an excellent free Walmart app for your smart phone to make shopping much easier by actually locating the item and current price. Walmart still has a policy of meeting the cost of all other "local" competitors with the actual flyer listing prices. The pizza and Italian-type foods are the mainstay of many college people. Prices here seem even higher than NYC in some cases. So, good in a pinch, but don't plan on doing all your shopping here unless you are made of money.

Both, of course, are supermarkets with a great variety of groceries that you'd expect. Historically, Price Chopper would be the ones with better deals and promotions vs. Hannaford's everyday prices. Before the Fuel AdvantEDGE program where you can save on gas at Sunoco, Price Chopper was the home of promotions where you could earn stamps for free towels or cookware. Today, of course, the world is more complicated with Walmart selling groceries, discount chains like Aldi, and even home delivery options. Through all of that, though, I have to say that I get drawn in by the deals at Price Chopper. Beyond their approach to pricing, I have always encouraged friendly, knowledgeable staff. I will say that when you are looking for niche products, such as Lundburg brand rice, vegan Annie's shells, raw cashews, and Worcestershire sauce without anchovies, that Price Chopper has came up short and I've had to drive over to Hannaford. Likewise, their switch from 24 hours to 6am-Midnight a couple years back now means that Walmart is the only option for late night groceries. Still, I know that I can get good grocery deals by shopping the Price Chopper circular and that's what keeps me coming back week after week.
