There are also 4 gas pumps outside in front to fuel your vehicle. I stopped by East Burke Market for a sandwich. The place was very busy here, including lots of out of state plates (NY, NJ, CT) in the parking lot. During this pandemic, I wore a mask inside the store, where the majority of customers and staff were also wearing masks too and masks are mandated in Vermont. Since the store was very busy, it did take a while to order a deli sandwich. The manager came out and asked a staff member to help me. I ordered a made to order Turkey Sub ($4.69). After the sandwich was made, cut, and packed and wrapped, I had to wait a while (7 minutes) to checkout since there was only one staff at the register. The lady in front of me from Downstate NY was buying lots of groceries, well over $100. Also, a scruffy anti-masker male strolled into the store got his stuff and proceeded to stand next to me in line (no 6 feet space), WTF (I thought wearing masks inside was law in VT). Apparently people looked, but no one on staff dared to confront the mask issue. I moved aside quickly and when it was my turn, I promptly checked out, cash ready. The Turkey Sub was very good, thick and filled with lots of deli turkey slices (Dietz & Watson), lettuce, tomato, onions, cheddar cheese, & mayo on a soft Koffee Kup Bakery Sub roll.

So many great quality products here from the local produce, local meats and cheeses. I also like the health and beauty products too. Now they have a parking lot and more also accross the street in a small lot. If you are not a member of the coop you of course pay more.

Outside blends in with the town but don't judge this grocer with its cover. They have little of everything and comparable to and at higher quality than WFM. This isn't fancy but authentic goodness! Buffalo Mountain Food-coop has a cafe upstairs but wasn't open due to Covid when we visited. BMFC was busy and had a steady flow of locals and peeps traveling through. Staff are friendly and helpful!! This is one of the few places that wasn't understaffed in VT this season. Prices are a little higher as it's customary in VT. Many local producers' goods seem to be in line with other coop prices but the packaged were slightly higher likely due to logistics and volume. Parking is street and free. Hardwick wasn't busy but parking was tight. If you visit the NE Kingdom, Buffalo Mountain Food Coop is a very good place to find sundries and nourishment. Produce was fresher and was better stocked than Willey's. Enjoy!

One plus for the summer is that they provide delicious ice cream (Gifford's) through a window and snacks in the store. Also, you can order custom-made deli sandwiches (hot and cold) for picnics. Service was friendly. They have fishing hooks and live bait. Finally, you can buy an excellent trail map (at the front register) which provides great detail on the elevation gain and length of many local area hikes including Mt. Pisgah (north or south trail) and the Herbert Hawkes Trail (East Vista and North Outlook). Be careful of local wildlife - my wife and I saw a cute black bear (young and skittish) in the bushes just past the parking lot, but reported this immediately to the staff.

The lady at the restaurant area was incredibly rude to my mother in law and myself. We asked about their different pizzas and were met with silence, a serious attitude problem, and then told they did not have the meat to make a certain pizza (which is fine). To be greeted in this way was disheartening and disappointing. No greeting, no acknowledgement of our existence, and met with harshness when ordering food. My mother in law chose to leave this establishment based on how she was spoken to and treated. She had wondered if race was a factor here and I sure hope this wasn't the case. I hope management speaks with these two women on shift during this time. I would never recommend this establishment, restaurant, or store even if it's convenient. I gladly drove twelve miles down the road to the local grocery store.
