Meijer has become less consumer friendly than it was a couple decades ago. They had a policy of…read moregood prices only if you buy 2, 3 or more of an item, which they have eased off of lately. They often charge more for larger quantity items per ounce or pound, expecting that consumers will not look at the price per unit and another trick is to vary the price per unit by using different units of measure, making it more difficult to compute which is the better deal. If they mix liters, quarts, ccs and ounces in a liquid such as soft drinks, it is not customer friendly. I know other do these same techniques as well, but I started shopping Meijer in the early 70s and expected more of them.

Gosh, I didn't know what I was missing. This is a true IYKYK! Once you have visited Horrocks, you will return for life. This is a magnificent, rustic, unique, expansive establishment that offers a cornucopia of items. From floral, to meats, cheeses, wine, speciality items, fruits, snacks, vegetables, hard-to-find items and more. There is so much more! Things that stood out even though I loved everything about this place: -the vast selection of canisters of olive oils -the vast array of different varieties of balsamic vinegars (amazing!) -house made items in every area -house made popcorn with so many flavors, so fresh. -the many, many homemade soups: probably around 20 different kinds and delicious. -a ramen bar, what? -bakery -pizzeria -exotic fruits and vegetables and regulars ones too -the wine bar: sip while you shop. -house-made sausages and cheeses -house-made jams, jellies, local honey -extensive variety of spices, herbs, flour and grains - great service, very helpful. They have neighbors that produce pure pigs, outdoor bug eating chickens, lamb, eggs, butter, cheese and yogurt. From the pigs they make sausage and brats. Then they bring it all together for us in their store, to our door by delivery and to local farmers markets. John Henry's chickens got me eating me again after 20 years. I'm a believer in the quality of their products. My mother occasionally makes special requests. For example she wanted a fresh ham. So I ask for one. Yes they can do that. I fresh ham is one that isn't smoked. Go try to find one at your grocery store. She also wanted a particular cut of roast that she hasn't been able to get from a grocery store. Yes, they have those too. In fact right here, right now. They she wanted some soup bones. Yep that have those too, right here, right now. Your best way to find them is to visit the website. Then meet some family members at a farmers market. Maybe arrange delivery to your house too. The meat tastes real because it is.

When I got there it's a smaller store but the meat selection is great and the prices are on point with the area also. He remembered me from the phone call so I picked up two thick cut Ribeyes and a NY Strip Steak for our dog since it's his birthday. They also carry other cuts of meat which looked really tasty also. This was probably one of the juiciest, tender fat cuts of meat I desperately needed. No premarinating needed, it absorbed the seasoning perfect in each succulent morsel. I hate biting into a rubbery piece of meat or cuts that have surprise muscle fibers that shouldn't be there. I also hate eating an animal that you literally taste "sadness".
