I stopped in to pick up a gift bag and greeting card while killing time before seeing friends. I haven't been to a dollar store in awhile so was surprised to learn that not everything in the store is $1 now. It has a mix of name brand and generic brands. It has just about everything you could want and need. I love going to the dollar store to buy gift wrap and greeting cards because no one really cares about quality and it gets thrown out anyways. It's definitely a fun place to shop and is cost effective if quality isn't a factor for you.

Told my husband we would go to big lots as it expires on July 1st. The first time we went, I didn't find anything to buy. The second time, today, we have a get together at our place tomorrow, so I picked up some stuff. We get to the counter and it's not working. No wifi connection so husband and I both step outside to try and get the code. Ben said there's usually a bar code and usually doesn't take this long. My husband said to just make the purchase, but I came specifically to use the coupon, it would not be right not to use it! So I told Ben to put my stuff aside, and I'll come back when we get it to work as our house has great Wi-Fi and we thought that was the problem. We've been home for hours and it ain't working!! I told Ben to let management know it's really annoying. I said I'd be back once I had the $30 coupon for my $50+ (picked up about $100), but since it's not working & it was just stuff I picked up just to use the coupon, I'll see if I have more of my time to waste today. This is the total opposite of my first experience. I don't know if it's the system or if it's just a way to get customers in. I finally got the bar code when I tried at 9pm this night! If you break it down, it's cheaper than buying four bags of Reese's peanut butter cups that are under a pound. To make up for my indiscretion I also bought my dog a bag of dog treats, and I bought some healthy micro greens. It was super busy being two days before the holiday but I like how they come by and scan your card so when you get to the register, you show them your card and you're ready to go.

That surprised me, because I specifically got my tires from Costco since I assumed the tire service would be as stellar as other parts of Costco (reliable, high-quality, good value). My tire installation took a while, they are busy, but my main issue comes later. The price seemed quite good and I like they use nitrogen. About 10 months after installing my tires, I had one tire have its sidewall damaged. I was alerted to this by TPMS during a road trip with family - not ideal time to have tire trouble. I drive a lot around DC for 10+ years, I've never had tire trouble, but I can't say if the fault was with the tire quality or if I just had bad luck with a pot hole or something. I had an expert help me put the spare on, and they noted that one of the lug nuts was crossthreaded, meaning the lug nut had likely been installed crooked or forced onto the stud during a prior wheel installation. That made it very difficult to get off the tire, and in fact the lug stud broke off while trying to get on the spare. Because the stud was damaged, I had to deal not only with the tire replacement but also a separate wheel-stud repair issue, which was costly. I called the tire center, they asked if I had brake pad work or something like since installation, and I had so I got off the phone. But I looked at my records and I only had rear brake pad work done which wouldn't involve the front tire being taken off and put back on, I believe (but obviously can't prove with certainty) that Costco was responsible for the lugnut cross threading. I write all this just in case anyone else has a lug nut issue like I did. I will get my tires from somewhere else in the future.

While I was about it, I'd pick up some global snacks. It had been years, but yesterday, since I was in the area, I decided pop in. The store focus seems to have shifted to foodie treats. I scooped up a box of British brownie mix made with Cadbury chocolate and a jar of Madras curry powder made with spices from Cape Town. I could have bought many more items, believe me, but I've been on an eating tear lately, so I held back. I was sad to see the home furnishings section much scaled back and more conventional than back in the day. But still, World Market remains a foodie delight!

Last week we went and grabbed some things off of clearance. 2 cushions, only one had the original price tag and the other had the WM price tag. I only noticed the original one & said hey that's not 50% off of the price. The associate showed me the other cushion with now the marked up price tag from WM & said "oh we had to increase the prices for inflation" and never honored the original price tag on the other pillow... then she marked me wrong for yet another item for the price it was marked before the final one. I showed her the other price tag on the other side saying "look you guys marked it as such" for the final price. She gave me attitude and said "oh I need to speak to the manager to see if she can honor it". She gave me the price without my reward coupons but I was so tired of her nonsense I wasn't fighting her over a couple of dollars. I didn't want to make a scene but it's honestly absurd that they can't even honor their OWN MARKED PRICES. They were giving me attitude for their negligence & honestly, shady business practices. Another time, I went once to do a store pickup. It wasn't ready for 3 days & I finally just went to the store because we were in the area & don't live nearby enough to just wait around and I needed the items. The person gave me so much attitude about how I shouldn't come in without notification. It wasn't a holiday or anything, just a random spring day. But I shook it off as oh maybe she's having a bad day. They have cute stuff but for the price & the horrible CS, I can easily see this being the next store to go out of business. "Inflation" is affecting everyone but don't go marking up items & then expecting us not to say anything when you pull things like this. We most likely won't be returning or just order online to avoid this.

BUT all i did was try to put my stuff on the belt MIND you i was patiently waiting for the elderly woman before me before i put my groceries on the belt but the cashier said DONT put your stuff yet i told him i have the divider up anyway but he said the divider will go up just let the other lady finish meanwhile there's a line and the lady after me was asking why you can't put your stuff in the belt and then i said i tried to but the cashier said NO. She was like there's a divider anyway and i said yes i did that but he still said NO. I respected the elderly lady because she was slow and i waited before i put my stuff because the cashier seems to feel like he wants to control everything. He had a bad attitude and he just dumped everything in the cart didn't say nothing no apology for what he did and i did the same i will not be saying anything nice to someone who was a jackass to me. LOOK it is not the customer's fault you are the only cashier working there that's the company, It was completely unnecessary what he did and his attitude.
