World Market has been around for a while. I used to be a regular, mostly when I was furnishing my apartment and needed some funky artisanal pieces at affordable prices.. While I was about it, I'd pick up some global snacks. It had been years, but yesterday, since I was in the area, I decided pop in. The store focus seems to have shifted to foodie treats. I scooped up a box of British brownie mix made with Cadbury chocolate and a jar of Madras curry powder made with spices from Cape Town. I could have bought many more items, believe me, but I've been on an eating tear lately, so I held back. I was sad to see the home furnishings section much scaled back and more conventional than back in the day. But still, World Market remains a foodie delight! read more

And you get rewards points that turn into cash off on future purchases. This place is not expensive, but you can also find better deals at other businesses; however, World market is a one stop shop for almost anything you're in the market for, especially for unique finds. Customer service is helpful, and mostly cordial but they get busy, and have a lot of merchandise to cover. parking is crazy but they have dedicated spots for online pickups-which is highly convenient! It's that time of year again where World Market hosts its notorious scavenger hunt! This year it's nutcracker themed for the holidays instead of an elf. It's a brilliant marketing idea because majority of the time if you can't find that prize, you'll end up shopping for something you like anyways. I really cherish the holidays so I like buying holiday decor. I know every year World Market has a decent selection of things to choose from. I've never actually got to try an Advent calendar so it might be something I get to experience it at least once. The store itself has gotten better with organization though I still think it gets pretty messy still. Also the parking situation gets a bit chaotic. Otherwise, great store. read more

Their customer service at the store is abysmal & has honestly made me question whether I want to continue shopping here regardless of how cute & unique their items are. Last week we went and grabbed some things off of clearance. 2 cushions, only one had the original price tag and the other had the WM price tag. I only noticed the original one & said hey that's not 50% off of the price. The associate showed me the other cushion with now the marked up price tag from WM & said "oh we had to increase the prices for inflation" and never honored the original price tag on the other pillow... then she marked me wrong for yet another item for the price it was marked before the final one. I showed her the other price tag on the other side saying "look you guys marked it as such" for the final price. She gave me attitude and said "oh I need to speak to the manager to see if she can honor it". She gave me the price without my reward coupons but I was so tired of her nonsense I wasn't fighting her over a couple of dollars. I didn't want to make a scene but it's honestly absurd that they can't even honor their OWN MARKED PRICES. They were giving me attitude for their negligence & honestly, shady business practices. Another time, I went once to do a store pickup. It wasn't ready for 3 days & I finally just went to the store because we were in the area & don't live nearby enough to just wait around and I needed the items. The person gave me so much attitude about how I shouldn't come in without notification. It wasn't a holiday or anything, just a random spring day. But I shook it off as oh maybe she's having a bad day. They have cute stuff but for the price & the horrible CS, I can easily see this being the next store to go out of business. "Inflation" is affecting everyone but don't go marking up items & then expecting us not to say anything when you pull things like this. I found the golden elf! World Market is currently doing a promotion called the Golden Elf Scavenger Hunt between Nov 1 - Nov 27 with different clues listed on their website everyday. You have 8 chances during the day - you can find any 4 available from 10 AM - 3 PM and the other 4 elves from 4 PM - closing. I found mine during the afternoon round and came about 30 minutes before the 4 PM round started on a Wednesday. The clue was "Golden Elf can be found sitting next to something round". The clue changes everyday and I managed to find the last one of the day. You have a chance to win a $20, $50, or $100 gift card which has to be used that same day in the store. The store overall was fairly clean, although you can see all the extra inventory sitting on the top of the shelves and there were display paper examples on some of the empty shelves as well. The staff were friendly and they have a variety of imported goods from places like Hawaii, Japan, and the UK. It's a great place for gifts as well. I love World Market so much. I've bought so much from this store over the years. Unfortunately there are none nearby where I live and they're so few and far in between in general. But I knew I'd be in Rockville this past weekend, where I know a World Market is, so of course I made a beeline there! And it was so worth it! Just stepping into World Market, it smells so good. And there are so many things. I found a pillow I'd seen in a marketing email but wasn't willing to pay shipping for, lol. I dug all the tchotchkes, textiles, random food stuffs, art, table settings, etc. I just had a great time wandering around, enjoying the space, sights, and scents. I was sad when it was time to go. I usually shop at the Friendship Heights location. & to be honest, I didn't pay attention to this location even with the big signage & my many visits to Trader Joe's down the sidewalk. To be even more transparent, my first pop in was after leaving the Harvest Bread Company...as long as I get here right? As with the F-Heights store, you're going to get quick friendly service & helpful assistance. The layout is a little different, as once you enter the store you can take the stairs or elevator up one level. The inventory & bargains/sales are similar within a smaller space. The store could use a little TLC in keeping the departments tidy. I never leave CPWM without a purchase & now that I'm paying attention, I have two locations to shop at. read more

Awesome stuff with friendly people! I mean, it's not exciting to me since I live nearby and I'd prefer a location that came with a vacation, ha ha! However, it's still got my vacay-found snacks and some other awesome things. The blue tagine, for instance, is beautiful. They have cool magnet boards from a brand I really like (but the name of which I do not presently have in mind!), nice cards, soaps, all kinds of things! It really is a world market, too, living up to the name and offering both edible and non-edible goods from all over. read more

This is a good world market and has really good holiday items. I give 4 stars because the location it's always hard to find parking.

Waited in line outside for awhile to get inside only to find out that it's crazy crowded inside with no social distancing enforced. Worst of all, the store wasn't very well stocked and I managed to find nothing I wanted to purchase. I don't know why the store has such a narrow aisle in clearly high trafficked area with small sized merchandise. In other words, because the merchandise are small, it takes most people to spend a bit of time to either browse or choose between different items. This is great if it's not during the pandemic necessitating social distancing indoors. The World Market merchandising team could have certainly moved some of the furniture pieces rearranged so other aisles that are very cramped and packed would have more spaces for customers to safely and easily browse items. I found it also unnerving being in the ceramic ware and other fragile items area that has zero elbow room for even just one customer. Just forget it if there's another customer with two or three toddlers and cart full of items attempt passing by. I shouldn't have to constantly be hyper vigilant about which way customers and children are crossing my path just to look at chocolate bars of all things, either. Adults like me wants uninterrupted time choosing between different candies too, you know? So much for my mum not being there to pull me out of the candy aisle! read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Please I do not recommend going here! Workers are extremely rude and miserable, and customer service is less helpful. I'm sure the workers here are on a power trip, because the last time I was here, the worker gave me a lecture on how to walk up to the checkout and get in line although there was nobody in line and i would have to walk around the whole store to go through checkout. Today, I placed an order for a cream, I waited for half an hour, and then proceeded to ask the worker if my order would be ready, immediately, she got an attitude when asking for my name and ID. She then said "Your name isn't even on here" with the worst attitude, although i've done nothing to her. She then informed me that orders take up to an hour to register in their system, (the website or store did not make that known). I left the store and proceeded to run other errands while they got the order done. After 2 hours, the order was still not ready. Honestly, how long could it take for a cream to be ready? I began to grow frustrated and decided to cancel my order, and had to wait about half an hour on their "customer service" chat to talk to a worker, just to be met with a bot. The bot gave me choices to pick from which did not let me cancel the order. I'm extremely frustrated at this situation and recommend avoiding this store and their miserable employees! I suggest going to Yekta Market! The workers were kind and I got my cream with no problems. read more

I've always liked this World Market, and it's been in this shopping center for a VERY long time now. I feel like World Market is totally underrated. Can I tell you a secret... *Whispers* I get almost all of my stocking stuffers from World Market. Now... I can't remember if I've reviewed another World Market... but if I did, I most certainly probably divulged that secret. I mean... you can easily find gifts for people too! Also, spoiler alert - if you don't know already. World Market sells alcohol. It's like one of the only stores outside of beer and wine stores in the county that does. That's why I was there that day. I was looking for miniature champagne bottles. And miniature champagne bottles I did fine. I mean... they have a pretty wide selection of mini champagne bottles. Some that are just insanely priced because of the shininess of the bottle. Some that are very reasonably priced... because of the dullness of the bottle. Anyways, there's all sort of fun stuff. There is candy from all different countries. There is always great soaps and there's furniture . I mean honestly, if you've been sleeping on world market for your random gift needs... you might just want to stop by and check it out. I'm super late in the World Market game but better late than never! A friend of mine messaged me earlier with pictures of Hello Kitty accessories from there and I decided to stop in to check it for myself. Wow this store is amazing! I'm all about quirky little gifts and they definitely had a lot of those in stock. They had a lot of unique wine and food selections as well. I have the biggest sweet tooth and enjoyed seeing a variety of chocolates and goodies from different parts of the world. I even stumbled on a jar of Vegemite but I think it's safe to say we can all skip that section! This was my first visit but surely won't be the last. Of all the World Markets I've been to, this one was my least favorite. It was smaller, had most of the same stuff as the other world markets, but slightly more disorganized. It was missing some important things I like though. For instance, when I asked if they had any more Delirium Tremens, the employee was kind enough to give me a VERY detailed reason as to why they were out but unfortunately it'd been 4-5 days since they sold their last bottle and hadn't gotten more. I have always found it without difficulty at the other locations. I love how some larger locations have the rugs displayed at different locations throughout the store which is cool. At this location, they were almost thrown into one area, rugs on the floor, disheveled. I got my (other) beers and left. Can't say I'll be attracted to come back to this location. read more

It's a great location next to a lot of shopping areas, like Trader Joe's. It has good prices, nice variety, especially their seasonal items. The service has generally always been good. The aisles can be a bit crowded with items, but I love the international foods selection. The furniture is affordable although you don't get the sense it will last decades, it's stylish. read more

*A Review of their online shopping with Curbside Pick-Up: I bought a beautiful framed picture/wall art for a birthday gift online during The Family and Friends sale ( so funny when businesses use this tactic-we really aren't your family or friends any more than the next Joe/Jane Q. Shopper ). But hey, I'll take 30% plus additional 10% for Curbside. For a $150 item, that's taking off a good chunk of change. The curbside offer made me decide not to venture inside to further shop, but hey, it's low contact! Anyway as soon as I ordered I got an email confirming the order and saying " your item is not yet ready for pick-up". Okay, I got it. Busy with all the "family members" placing orders. I'll be patient. But after 30 mins went by, I wanted to know. It takes 40 mins to get down there, and I want to know when it would be ready. I called and was told by the seemingly overwhelmed girl on the phone "there are 15 orders in front of yours". Okay, so about how long? She didn't know, just wait for email and shouldn't be too long. So I did some yard work. And then more yard work ( you can never do too much of that). After what seemed like several hours, but probably 3, I finally got an email. Took the drive to Rockville. Make sure you read the instructions on the email. Parked in a designated spot and called. After about 8 mins a nice, quiet guy came out with my large art. I wanted to take a good look because people complained on the Cost Plus sight that theirs had been damaged. It was pretty flawless( small mark on the underside,but not worth complaining). I was a little bummed it wasn't wrapped in brown paper. I think this would be helpful for careful transport, but for as overwhelmed as they were in there, I guess I shouldn't expect the moon and stars. Arts looks wonderful. read more

Dear God, I am addicted to World Market. Please grant me the self control to not walk into this place and spend my entire paycheck on random things I never knew I needed...like the buy 4 bottles of wine and get 10% or that Indonesian day bed that I just came home with one day, or the 8 pasta plates for $4.99 each that were $20 each at Macy's, or that Vinturi wine aerator that will supposedly make your $10 Washington wines taste like $1000 Italian vintage, or those beachy accent pillow cushions that make my house feel like an oceanside cottage. I'm not even a hipster, but I ended up buying ponchos in Thai and Native American patterns. I have a plethora of tea bags in my cupboard, but I somehow justified buying a $10 jar of Italian chamomile because it came with the cutest little serving scooper. There is a lot of stuff here! You really have to take your time to appreciate this store I think. It feels pretty cramped and overwhelming at times because it's a lot of stuff in a relatively small place. It can also be a little confusing especially trying to figure out where to check out - hint, there are two sides to the check out, and you will be on the wrong side! But if you have the time and the inclination there are lots of treasures on those shelves! The only real problem with this store is that the parking lot, while large, is chaotic and it can get a little aggressive, especially during the holidays. But, if you pack your patience and are willing to scratch around all the isles once you get there you will likely find a bunch of stuff that you can't imagine how you ever lived without! read more

My go-to spot for all things unique and eccentric. They have an interesting food and beverage selection. I bring my own snacks when I fly, and I like to come here and stock up on a few snacks before my trips. There are all kinds of TSA-approved sized jams, meats, cheeses, nuts, candies... even paté. Yup... paté. This is also a great place to find snacks and treats to serve your hungry holiday guests. Interestingly enough, this store is the only place outside of New Orleans where I've found Aunt Sally's pralines sold (and that was a pleasant surprise!). This location carries an eclectic selection of beers and a great selection of wines...including canned sparkling moscato. I know. I know. Just stay with me... I didn't even know canned wine was a thing. I'm also not a huge fan of moscato, but I bought few of these to try when I went on vacation and they were great! The cans are just under 3 oz (so you can take them through TSA and enjoy them on the plane) and they were a few bucks a piece. A great deal, if you ask me. And...they were surprisingly good. This is one of my favorite places to find unique, interesting, and affordable gifts and stocking stuffers during the holidays. There's an impressive assortment of jewelry, scarves, accessories, candles, gift sets, and all kinds of knick knacks, doo-dads, and odds and ends for the more creative and colorful people in your life. The selection of furniture and home décor are also impressive, but a bit too expensive for my taste (especially since I enjoy changing up my furnishings often). However, if you are looking for some pieces that will bring color, flair, and personality to your home, look no further. Be sure to sign up for the World Market rewards program. The store periodically has some great sales, and they'll occasionally send you coupons worth 20% or more (which would make buying that expensive, but super cute, patio set not quite so painful on your pocket.). read more

I love World Market as they carry items that can only be found here. However, maybe it was the fact that I came after the Christmas holiday but the store was very empty and lacked inventory. I really hope its only due to the pandemic. The jewelry and wine section were extremely empty with only a few items but the home section had several items, as well as, the international food section. There seemed to be three bookshelves full of pickup orders so maybe that's where all of the inventory is. I'll have to come back after the holiday to see what goodies they have available. read more

After shopping at Trader Joe's, in the same shopping Center, I go to World Market on a lark. I am done $54 later. (Thanks VISA.) I have a few bottles of Mimosa and wine that is hard to find elsewhere, some red/black peppercorns and a chocolate treat for me. I love perusing their treats from around the world aisles. Do not come in this store hungry or you will leave with lots of unplanned items. :-) I never have my World Market affinity card but it makes no difference. The BEST customer service, friendly employees esp. Steve, he totally made our family's day! I ordered a dining table online to be picked up at this location - I live about 50 min away one way but decided to make a drive since this location was the only one with that table in stock. (Website said only one table left!) I placed an order online and few hours later, I get a call from Steve, saying they do not have a new table in stock. However, they do have 2 tables that were just returned with minor imperfections. He texted me the photos of those tables so I don't have to drive 50 min one way just to see the table!!! I decided to go for it and made 50 min drive - totally worth it! Table was great and he gave me 20% discount because of minor imperfection. Steve and another employee loaded the table to our car- being extremely careful to make sure table doesn't get damaged. Table was very heavy but they had smiles the whole time loading the table & huge box of legs! Seriously the BEST customer service and Steve, esp. really went above and beyond to get us this table! You don't see that often in retail business now so I was so grateful for all of his help! If I ever order anything else from World Market, I'll be sure to go to Rockville location again! Long story short... I ordered a dining room table set in November 2019, and it's been 7 months and I still haven't received the complete order I placed. Not once have I been contacted by World Market to be given an update on my order, even when a part of my order was actually ready to be picked up back in January. I love the dining table set we purchased, but I would like to have the other half of it. I just contacted the store again today, because I saw that they opened back up for curbside pickup, bu I was told it may be another 2-4 weeks before the bench arrives to the store. Boy, how many times have I already heard that one.... (The answer is three) UPDATE: After 7 months of waiting, and not a single phone call from this World Market location, we have officially received our final piece to our dining room set. The only redeeming factor in all of this was one employee, Stephen, who I spoke with on the phone today and was very sympathetic and helpful. read more

The people here went above and beyond for us. I don't care how disorganized the store is or how weird the layout is, the employees we dealt with deserve 6 stars! We drove up to this store from DC in a Zipcar (Prius) to pick up a table and chairs that this location had in stock. Usually we don't have any trouble with disassembled furniture fitting into Zipcars, even into small cars. This time, however, when I saw the size of the box, I got pretty anxious. The box did not, in fact, fit in the Prius. My heart sunk when I thought about having to drive home empty-handed, get a Zipcar truck, and drive all the way back. But the folks at the store suggested we unpack it and load it into the car that way. They helped us take everything carefully out of the box and load it into the back of the Prius. They even took the box and packing material back into the store so we wouldn't have to deal with excess garbage at home. The table and chairs are now assembled at home and they look great. The layout of this store was not the best, it felt like you were in a warehouse, you walked deeper and deeper into it with no windows and no natural lighting. However, it was definitely a colorful store offering international products. I was delighted to find wholegrain mustard and my favorite HP sauce at World Market. I also picked up some fine dark chocolate products. The line at the check-out was ridiculous there were four registers but the line didnt move for 15 minutes. read more

Visited World Market again today for the first time in a very long while... I definitely forgot how much I love this store. I think I spent nearly an hour in there just wandering around looking at all of their random knickknacks, overloading my olfactory system by overdoing it on testing scents and smelling candles, perusing their kitchen aisle... oh so many distractions! Good place to come if looking for something to add to a gift... lots of candles, bath sets, cards, stationary, etc. I'd stopped in for a few items to add to Christmas gifts (and came a way with more than I intended, but all for the good!) Though I didn't have time to do a thorough run though of the food section on this trip, I remember being somewhat overwhelmed the first time I was here. Lots to choose from in the way of international foods (sauces, spices, and more). They also have a nice variety of teas and coffees. On this trip I did stop by quickly to snag a tin of some chocolate jasmine tea that looked interesting. As this is the only World Market I have experienced, I can't compare to their other locations. But from the other reviews, I can't wait to check out the Friendship Heights location. Not having the comparison, I'd say this place is definitely worth checking out. read more
