I had asked her questions on several occasions and she is ever so helpful to assist. She stops what she is doing to help and is always smiling. Came here for some creme cheese the line was almost to back of store with one cashier. I got tired…read moreof waiting put creme cheese down by checkout and walked out. The one cashier came running after me outside and asked for item back. I pointed to item and told her $10 an hour butt that she was the only broke person who would steal not me. Unbelievable no staff but you have enough time to chase someone down you suspect of stealing $1.50 creme cheese. I'm seriously thinking of going back in to complain to the manager but what good would that do.

Tried to return a $6 item and they rejected me. I even asked If I could exchange (I had $30 worth…read moreof items I would've purchased) but they also told me no. The assistant store manager called his manager over the phone and kept walking away and coming back - then they casually had a full blown conversation about going out that night while I was waiting for a response. After the assistant store manager hung up with the manager, he said I needed to get manager approval and was asked to come back. Before this even happened, the other employee checking customers out was huffing and puffing about not wanting to be there and being tired. Not only did they lose out on business during this transaction, they lost out on a customer and all of my family's business. I went to another dollar general and the guy asked me if I was coming from this location and I said yes. He shook his head and said this wasn't the first time they did this. He helped me exchange and I bought a ton of merchandise from his store. This location is disorganized, the staff is unhelpful and rude - overall the worst experience. They have old receipts so their systems are dated and their management staff are unfit and should not be running the store. Avoid this place and go to the other one in north Bergen closer to Bergen line.

Your garden variety discount store, thrift shop, immigrant menagerie, etc., I was here in search of luggage tags for a friend who was leaving on a weekend international trip the next day with her new piece of luggage. I initially searched a nearby Walgreen's to no avail, so they were on my next list where I was. Was this place heaven sent, hopefully not having to search up to 99 different places!? PURCHASE Valley Greene Seeds - Parsley, Pepper, Sweet Basil 3pk ($1.00): My friend had started to try and grow some seasonings and vegetables with the excruciatingly-high grocery prices, so I thought this was a nice opportunity to try these seeds once the weather warmed up. PARKING (FREE; N/A this instance) This was an easy flat 10-minute walk from my friend's place. Otherwise, the only option was the plenty of spots along the main drag of Central Ave. and all surrounding roads - 'nuff said. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Mad props to 99 Cent-Ral who had the primary item I was looking for, and everything else I bought was just gravy! Frankly, I had no idea how businesses of this type of oddball products at extremely discounted prices with no rhyme or reason how they all fit together stayed open on a daily basis, but managed somehow. If you were looking for a gag or white elephant gift, this place was perfect. If you needed inexpensive toys to donate to Toys For Tots, please consider this place since they had a good supply. And, if you needed any kitchenware, they had it all. The prices were obviously cheap while the service seemed hit-or-miss. Just don't come here with high expectations and looking for the latest pair of Jordan's, any designer brands, or anything currently relevant. There were treasures but only for the right person. And, I always loved supporting small businesses whenever possible. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experiences was around $4.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). There's some clothing here for the local residents to peruse through, but I'd recommend getting your home supplies elsewheres - it's 20-30% more expensive than at the Targets within a mile or so of here. If you have no where else to go, you have no choice, I suppose, and you can find everything from storage, mops, cookware, microwaves, clothing, soap, and more here. The cashier's in the far back, by the way. Street parking is free Sundays and after 6p all other days.
