I tried to return a pair of sneakers that purchased at another Marshall store, but was rejected, I was told I have to return my purchase to the original store. It was a surprised for me, I am a royal TJmaxx and Marshall customer for many years, it never happens before. I went back home and checked Marshall store return policy and there was no way you can find a word that say you have to return your purchase to an original store. Overall I like this Marshalls ... I've chosen to do a review because of one of the ladies that works there (possibly a manager) . Yesterday she was there while I was standing in line and I decided to look at her name tag (Sheila P.)! On the few occasions that I've seen her in the store she's always the same - pleasant, advertising the store credit card and seemingly enjoying her job. I tend to notice things like this because a lot of time it isn't the norm in my NYC retail experience. I try not to limit my reviews to my bad experiences but also the good. This store has a good assortment of clothing, toys, beauty and handbags. There aren't a lot of shoes and the bath and bedroom stuff is lacking but it's not some huge department store so it's understandable. I love Marshalls just as much as any person who likes finding great delas on designer items. I usually come in with a purpose but leave with more than I'd planned for (isn't that true for every store haha). Everything about the company and the store itself (location, cleanliness, layout) was awesome. It's located in a mini mall type thing on the lower level with Bed Bath and Beyond on the ground level and TJ Maxx 2 floors up. The store was welcoming as they had a security guard greet visitors and even though people love deals and the store can get crowded on certain occasions the shoppers I encounted here were pleasant to browse the racks alongside with. Despite all these good things, I unfortunately have to give this store a 2.5 stars for the lack of customer service by the associates on the floor. They need better training on manners and how to treat and interact with customers ...after all it's a very customer focused role and you can't go around yelling at customers in an accusing tone for things that they've never done. I won't go into detail but the last visit that I was here was less than pleasant. In the attempt to always be a respectful shopper by having clothes back up, putting them back in the racks where I found them and picking up things that I accidentally knocked over, etc. I unfortunately had a nasty encounter for something I didn't do and my shopping trip was ruined. read more

I used to be an avid fan of Marshalls but since they reformatted their clothing display my enthusiasm has waned. I yearn for the Marshalls of yore where Men's designer dress shirts were wrapped in protective plastic and clearly designated by neck size and arm length. Currently, all dress shirts are unwrapped on a rack with sizes only designated as S, M, L, 1X-3X . If you find your basic neck size and guesstimate your desired arm length, you will likely find that the shirt is frequently lightly soiled or imperfect. So it's not as much a deal if you spend extra time looking for a shirt and then ponder having it dry cleaned before its suitable to wear. These days I no longer purchase dress shirts at Marshalls. There are several positive things I must note about Marshalls. It remains a site to find an incredible assortment of affordable, unique and never knew you wanted or needed items. Once inside, you could spend hours perusing and lose track of time. During the winter holidays, I am powerless to resist visiting repeatedly. It is definitely possible to save hundreds of dollars on a single visit! You rarely find the same two items and if you return later to find the item you neglected to purchase initially, it will not be there 99.9% of the time. Staff are very friendly, helpful and patient - even under the most stressful circumstances. There is a plethora of merchandise to choose from but the aisles separating items appear to get progressively more narrow and in a few instances, completely disappear. Each year, I am more enamored with the online shopping experience, but I do not foresee a time when I relinquish my pilgrimages to Marshalls. read more

Marshall's is a laid back TJ Max. To me there's a subtle difference. I usually don't find anything for myself in Marshall's. I do purchase items for gifts. The location is fun to browse. It is bigger compared to other Marshall's I've shopped in. All Marshals are alike to me. Nothing about the customer service stands out as remarkable. That's a good thing. I've never had a bad experience. I did need to return an item once. I had to accept a gift card for my refund since my credit card had been compromised. I'm not sure where or when that happened. I couldn't get my refund on my original form (i.e. cash or credit) of purchase. It turned out fine since you can use the card at TJ Max or Home Goods too. They are all part of the same company. If you want to look like you've spent a lot of money for big designer names, this is the place to shop. Designer names for reduced prices. Like all discount stores look over your item carefully. There is typically something minor, or maybe even major, defect. If you can live with it, you've got a winner! read more

Hello, I'm Suanne, and I've been a cheapskate all my life. I've been coupon free for a few months now. However, I can't shake some of my habits. For example: clothes shopping. I turn my face away from $200 price tags and I cringe at brand names I can't pronounce. I make a beeline for clearance racks and ponder whether my addiction to a good deal can erase the questionable stain around the collar. But one store makes the process a little easier - Marshall's. With the pronounceable brand names and 50% to 70% off the original tag price, I've found that my cheap addiction no longer impacts my first impression credibility at the office or as the date to a wedding where you don't know the bride and groom. It makes living as a penny pincher that much more bearable. The racks at this particular Marshall's are a bit more organized than their suburban counterparts and the deals are quite good. As an extra small shopper, I still came away with good buys that fit my size 0 frame. The lines can be long, but they do move at a good clip. Peruse often to get the best deals! read more

So not a fan of this location. It's kind of dumpy to me. Marshalls is kind of a "catch as catch can" type of retailer. You can find brand name clothes at highly discounted prices, along with housewares, bedding, kitchen articles, etc, but the selection here is very underwhelming. I prefer the location uptown in Harlem by the Costco shopping complex. It's newer, more open, and brighter. It's very hit or miss. You have to arrive here with some extra time to kill, and be patient, as you scour through each rack of clothes to try and find the one or two things worth buying. I found this place to be kind of messy. As this store carries manufacturer overstock many items are not what you would call their "A" articles, but you can find some decent shirts and other things to wear. Go in with the attitude that you really have to dig around to find something you like and maybe come home with a few bargains if you are lucky. At least there is a bathroom here if you need one. I have a confession.. Marshall's has an amazing selection of one and two piece swim suits. Well, they did before I bought 6! From $12-$29, unbelievably priced - how could you not walk away with one for everyday of the week!? The super clean dressing rooms have hooks inside that say "possibly", "definitely" and "tomorrow" - very helpful for making decisions. I also picked up some Betsy Johnson sunglasses for $14, an adorable purple ruffle wallet for $13, kickass headphones for $9, cute Puma ankle socks, and a Klutz storybook for $5. Discounters like TJ Maxx and Marshalls usually gtve me a headache because of the huge array of items arranged haphazardly and this Marshalls is no exception. Racks seem sometimes as if the hurricane has swept through the store. Items are all mixed up.The secret to conquering the discounter malaise is to blitz in and out, check out only a few items at a time, and flee with your bargains. Miarshalls, I have discovered, is great for the occasional designer discount shoe. If you are lucky enough to find your style and size, fifteen minutes is all you need. I ahve found Borns, Ahnu....all easier on the wallet. Then I realized, this store has superb deals on bakeware lke cookie sheets, muffin tins...for a few dollars moreu than cheaper bakeware, you can get 40-50% off good stuff...Cuisinart and Caphalon, Chicago Metallic. How cool is that. I even found muffins tray liners one day at 75 for $1.99...a bargain, along with the Keen shoe that was $100 but which I got for $29.99. That expensive organic shampoo or salon conditioner? Check it out! You can get a huge bottle for $9.99. The same guerrilla shopping technique applies. Know what you want, go in and scout for it and rush out with your bargains. A sinking economy does not always have to affect your wallet if you are wise. This Marshalls has gotten way better with the speed of their checkout. My trick, go earlier in the day or as late as possible before closing. read more

Can't beat the good prices at a place like Marshall's. This one is a bit crowded, unfortunately. The dress section, while well stocked, was particularly crowded. I also hate how the fitting room is right by the labyrinth of shoes. This seems like a terrible place for the shoes and fitting room, because both areas are so crowded. Nonetheless, overall, the selection in most of their sections is pretty good for a store like this. I'd just suggest hitting it up as early as possible in the day. read more

Not only do I ALWAYS find everything I need at this Marshalls but also their service is excellent! I was shopping there today and while I was carrying the items I wanted to purchase, I forgot a Zara shopping bag full of new clothes that I had brought with me. I realized that I had left it when I got home and called the store right away to ask if they had found it. DAVID ARTHUR was the manager in charge and after checking twice and not finding what I lost, he took the time to check once again and called me with the great news that he had found my bag!! For the first time in my 8 years of living in NYC, I went to a Marshalls in the city. (I had only ever been to one in Ridgewood.) I cautiously walked in expecting to see clothes, accessories, shoes strewn all over the store but instead I saw clean, organized shelves with just enough inventory to have choices but not look cluttered. Even the restrooms were clean! I was very pleasantly surprised to see all of this. I decided I'd stay a while and browse the entire store. Now, since we are still in a pandemic, the store wasn't packed (I'm sure that wasn't the case this time last year) and that was very enjoyable. However, I was there long enough that it started to get a little congested around 3:00 p.m. That was my queue that it was time to wrap it up and head home. I was able to get to a cashier rather quickly. While there were several already open, as more people trickled in the line behind me they opened up more registers very quickly. The cashier was chatty and so nice. She actually made real conversation and wasn't just talking fluff. I applauded her for being so friendly and welcoming and told her I'd never had that experience in any Marshalls in the city or state of New York, ever. All I have to say is, my mind was blown today. I wouldn't expect this from most chains in NYC but specifically a store like Marshalls. I know it can be very hard to control inventory placement when there's so many people coming and going but this store really had it together. There was plenty of hand sanitizer everywhere and someone was cleaning all the shopping carts consistently. Even as I was shopping, there were so many employees putting out new product, re-merchandising and even just straightening items on shelves. They were friendly as you passed them or had to reach over them. They didn't walk out in front of you or knock you down with rolling racks. Everybody just had a sense of awareness and politeness. It was really the craziest thing I've ever seen and I've worked retail my entire adult life. There is another location that is closer to me but I will likely never go there again. That's right FIVE STARS!!! And well deserved. I can't say enough about this place and my Awesome shopping experience every time I go. There's a TJ Maxx five blocks from me, but I have to travel down to Chelsea only b/c I hate going to that location (thats another review). From the well properly trained and well-mannered security guard to the floor folks and cashiers, its always a pleasure. Well I went in the other day and a group of staff was kind of being loud but they werent saying anything inappropirately as Ive heard in that other TJ Maxx store. Maybe its a Marshalls thing and they train differently. lol Aside from the Amazing selection of everything and anything under the sun, it's just a pleasure and puts me such a great mood to come here. Oh and maybe I didn't notice but they don't do that ANNOYING get a damn credit card and 10% off announcement every five minutes that TJ Maxx does. Loathe that with a passion. TJX Corporate really needs to stop pushing that over the PA. I understand when you reach the counter and maybe they're reaching those folks that don't make it to the counter but is it really effective??? I wonder. Back to Marshalls. The layout of the store is very simple and clearly marked. The security guard at the front was polite and greeted my like an old friend. Found a neat kitchen tool to shuck fresh corn. It's like a blade, with sharp teeth and just enough room for the corn to pass through. Love it! The only part that confused me was the checkout area. In trying to create a single line, Marshall's used merchandise and eye level divers. There were people standing in two different lines, I went into the shortest line and it happened to be the wrong line. By the time I snaked through three divers, I was annoyed. The poor guy at the register seemed to have never wrapped kitchenware before. It took him a full minute with each tissue paper and the tape kept wrapping on his finger instead of the tissue. Overall, the store is kept in order. I would return again. read more

This is one of the most unorganized Marshalls with very poor customer service. You're pretty much on your own to wade through the racks, with very little help and mostly grunts passing off as answers for your questions. Having said that, they have deep deals on many brands, if you have the time & patience to dig deep. Brands include Micheal Kors, Kate Spade, Sam Edelman, Vince Camuti, Rebecca Minkoff bags (on good days) & many more. Some really good (and cheap) finds in their home section too, though it's quite tiny. Also be prepared to stand in the check out line for at least 15 minutes at an average post 4 pm on any given weekday. Try & avoid weekends if you can, as it's filled with tourists filling their suitcases with all the goodies and clothes strewn all around. read more

They have some good deals but all I wanted was 2 button-down men's shirts. Light blue and office worker white. Pop in - pop out. Normally men's shirts are organized by size. Not so here. As such I had to go through every shirt, 6+ deep, on every shelf for several aisles. By the time I found 2 in my size, I had flipped through hundreds and hundreds of non-candidates. 1. Men don't shop this way. 2. Can't they hire a parolee or fashion school intern to sort the stock by size (or color might work as well)? By this time I had to pee so I stepped in line, anxious to get out. They do the Disneyland-airport maze type of line so it seems shorter but is instead actually 13.5 linear kilometers and can conceal the population of Sweden. Now some places are good with long lines, such as Trader Joe's. The key is having a lot of cashiers. Marshall's didn't. Maybe 5? Mid day on a Sunday in Manhattan. 15 minutes in, we hadn't moved an inch. Managers walked by with the well honed indifference of a DMV worker or TSA screener. After another 10 minutes, with barely a shuffle, I dumped my goods and fled the building. They might not miss my $40 purchase but it could have funded a cashier for a few hours, or a shirt organizer who can count in sequential order. read more

Had to write another review based off my visit ten minutes ago. In and out in record time, literally five minutes. While I was waiting in line, the manager Matthew was going up to customers and asking how they were doing. I commented that this was the most cash registers I've ever seen open and he mentioned that they were hiring ten more next week and that they were slowly working to fix the shortage. While checking out, my cashier made small talk and was just so friendly. Great customer service. Speedy checkout. And I got nice umbrellas for $10. I've never shopped at a discount store before and I've always heard my friends tell me that I either had to be lucky to go on a good day or search and search for something that is worth purchasing. Today wasn't a "good day" and I certainly did not have any luck finding something that was worth purchasing. Granted, I only came as a shopping buddy for my mom to help her look for some stuff for the colder weather. So, technically...I wasn't looking to shop for myself. When I first entered the store, I was appalled. The racks were so disorganized, it was like looking through a slob's walk-in closet. It gave me such a headache that I just gave up on looking for whatever it is that I was looking for. The only cute things I saw were house slippers...except there weren't any in our sizes. She ended up purchasing house slippers for me, though...that were a size smaller than what I usually wear (what a sweet lady, she is!), a trench coat for herself and wafer cookies, lmfao. Eek!
