Very frustrating experience with Dollar. I was pressured to purchase additional liability insurance even though I already have active coverage with Progressive that applies to rental cars. The staff made it seem like it was mandatory, which is misleading. Customers should be clearly informed that this coverage is optional, not forced. I understand offering protection, but pushing it as required crosses the line. Amanda was the one with an attitude and adamant we get her insurance when we explicitly said we had our own and that everything was covered. She stated that it wasnt allowed and there was no coverage in PR so we were obligated to get her insurance. As we're about to sign, angry that our bill is now $150 more than it was originally, we researched on chatgpt and it agreed with what were arguing. She THEN was like yeah but i need to see proof, so of course we showed her our proof of insurance and then she went on to removing all of the extra charges. Terrible customer service. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!! I was given a price by AAA who I went through for booking. I pick up the car cost goes up because of tolls and rode side assistance fine. I DECLINE insurance because I have AAA with coverage for rentals, girl goes back to her computer clicks some buttons as if she is removing this add on and does not. She shows me a price in BOLD font and tells me 200 is just a hold and will be removed from the charge once the car is returned. Well I show up and now there is a totally different price that they neglect to show you in tiny print on the receipt. 3 different prices where given to me one of which is conveniently in TINY print. When I went to pickup my car at this location the man behind the counter was trying to package many items I don't want. I told him in front of my wife I only wanted the Toal Express Service. He should everything I declined but neglected to tell me I was being was being charged for Roadside Assistance which I did not request. When I finally saw the bill (incidentally is emailed and received days later) it was very disappointing. Now the good news! I spoke with Iralys who happens to be bilingual with excellent Customer Service Skills resolve my problem. I rented at dollar in PR a while ago. I used my master card insurance . I had no hidden fees and my deposit was returned immediately after return. I don't know if they are still that good. Cambie 3 veces el vehículo en diferentes localidades en San Juan, Ponce y Mayagüez en la cual me entregaron las unidades con desperfectos mecánicos y los vehículos no están en buenas condiciones. Dollar rental years ago (2006-2007) I reserved my first rental from MCO to FLL. I was so happy until was the time of closing the check they over charged me on top of my total $300. I believe it was a one day rental. I got so mad, i used many routes to delivered my message across to resolved this big mistake that dollar did. At that point been single mom, and $300 out of pocket was brutal. It created major damage for my living situation, when I was just relocating to Florida. Skip, moving forward.. their resolution was to send me 3 "paper vouchers" lol. I felt scammed, dumb and laugh in my face. My resolution was: To never rent from them again! teared those paper vouchers, straight to garbage. until last year when I decided to give them a chance again. Everything went smooth and I was shocked. They did charged me only what was my reservation from the beginning! Very happy. However last week. I booked a reservation in Marginal Los Ángeles in Puerto Rico, 2 weeks for SUV $318.29. When I show up to pick up my car rental, I was approached by a (MANDATORY) Collision Waiver. $14.95 x day And a very highly recommended toll pass $4.95 x day.. otherwise I couldn't rent the car if I didn't have the collision. And if I didn't get the toll pass I be penalized $100- $150 each time, I pass a toll. To a total balance of around $700 easy!. I turned my back and after thinking carefully, left the lot and look other places to rent a car or small van. After that happened I was so dissatisfied it reminded me the time they scammed me and took my $300 of my bank account and then laugh on my face, sent me paper thru the mail lol as vouchers that if u don't use in a year it's over! After they took that $300 I will never forget, at some point of my life I saw my self and my small child leaving on the streets of Florida for a week inside a car with barely food because I was relocating, didn't know no one, I didn't speak back then well english, I was like 21 years old. To me it was traumatic experience I will always have present when I go to dollar to rent a car. I hope this message can help others to be cautious when renting. I also hope dollar rental have the decency to get back to me and return either my money or re-issue vouchers to me for the damages they caused to my daughter and I. As they continue with the insanely idea of not returning my money. When I called again about this issue last week. At least someone running the company should have the effort and moral values of re-issued those vouchers. It is impressive that I was number 6 in line and in no time became first since everyone bounces off once they are ask to show the insurance policy and it's deductible. Never in my entire life, renting all over the world I have been ask for that. First, if you pay with American Express, they cover you. All a trick to scam you into adding insurance. Sick practice. But it works , you need a car, so you are forced into doing it since it is Saturday and no one is available to send you the info. It works, welcome to Puerto Rico. Dollar is usually pretty good. I've had several solid rentals at other locations, but this is the second Dollar location where I have to say "never again." First was the 10 minute wait for the shuttle bus at the airport terminal (because they're a ten minute drive from the airport) and then the 25 minute wait for the shuttle at the rental office to take us back to the airport. I was getting ready to flag down a taxi to take us when the guy finally showed up. By that time, other renters had arrived and we very nearly didn't make it on board the van. At the counter, the rental agent tried the insurance thing, including a suggestion that we also buy the wheel and tire coverage. No, I'm sure that not only my Visa gold card covers me but also my Geico coverage (I had brought a printout of the declarations page just in case). Yes, they took a $500 deposit on my credit card but that was okay. I took pictures and documented ever scratch or mark on the car when I took the car and then when I returned it, I took pictures from every angle of the car as well as the "okay" condition report that the check-in guy wrote up. But that would have been just a two-star review. Where this location earned themselves a spot on my "no fly" list was the TWENTY FIVE MINUTE WAIT FOR THE CAR. Yes, after I finished signing the paperwork and the clerk directed me to the "car concierge", we waited outside in the heat for nearly a half hour while he did I don't know what I don't know where until our Toyota Blah arrived to be rented. Very disappointing. I would not rent from this location ever again. Tip 1: There are some agencies that are on the airport property. Tip 2: Take the toll transponder ($2/95/day) because PR has scattered toll plazas around and you'll never know when they might appear around the corner. read more

This location is not located at the airport, you have to take their shuttle bus which is a 15 minute ride. Then, you're either waiting forever in line to arrange the rental or the vehicle, or you may get lucky and get a desk rep right away. We arrived one night at 11:00pm and had to wait the longest time--very frustrating. Your check in and check out experience will be based on the type of Dollar employee you end up with. We had Carlos for check-in and he actually treated us very well by providing a complimentary second driver and set us up with a nice Kia Sportage (a brand new one on one occasion with only one mile on the odometer). For check out, we had Ricardo and he seems to have an inability to smile and seems to have pleasure in making the checkout experience long and painful. We had another member for check-out and it was quick and pleasant. Not sure I like this inconsistent quality of customer service. read more

With huge skepticism, I moved forward with the rental via Expedia.com and was given the best rate all around the metro area. When I arrived, I had to keep in mind I was back in PR. The rental process to check out was SLOWWWWWWWWW... Literally took like 32 mins from arrival to driving out of the lots They ask some rather stupid questions that are not their business. For example, where are you staying, they require an address, I was asked where I was going with the vehicle.. again none of their business! It's an island for God sake.. what am I going to run off and keep the rental to myself? Come on! Can't drive too far without drowning if I try and leave the island with their vehicle... Lol... I've rented cars in other states (Puerto Rico is not a state of course), but their system is still "paper trail@ in 2022, somewhat archaic. Being that it's one of the rentals close to the airport they should invest in some automation to make their check in/out process quicker. They gave me a 2021 or rather new Kia sedan that had a screen for GPS and has Bluetooth, media, Apple play and was comfy and good on gasoline. I'll admit that I was a bit sarcastic/annoyed to be asked where I was going or staying, because it's irrelevant to them. I'm paying for the service, not to keep their car. I had a prepaid booking that had the pick up and drop off location as San Francisco airport at $283. I needed this changed so that the drop off was LAX. I asked the lady at the counter what was needed to make this change, she said that it would incur an additional $300 one-way fee - steep, but fine, that's what they do for one way rental. I also accepted to be upsold on 3rd party insurance for an additional $100 so I was told the total cost was now $683. What I didn't realise was that this $683 on top of my prepaid booking amount because they had tacked on extra waiver and concession fees on top despite only accepting the extra $100 insurance. Upon returning the car to LAX, I was charged an additional $300 for the one-way! Apparently their system still stated that my return destination was still San Francisco so I was charged this one way fee again! This meant I was charged a total of $1266USD to rent a Nissan Rogue for 7 days going from San Francisco to LAX - double what I believe I had been charged. They're still not admitting their mistake on the double one-way fee charge. Don't use these guys. You won't know what you'll end up paying let alone having to alter an existing booking. I had a much better experience with Budget who honoured my prepaid voucher without any additional charges! read more
