As soon as I entered the store, an employee courteously said, "Hello. Welcome to Five Below!" I walked around the store and looked at the merchandise. I thought that the quality of the merchandise was OK. My husband and I agreed that some of the prices were higher than what other retailers charge. I chose to buy one Halloween decoration that cost $5. The cashier informed us that a service fee would be added because we used a credit card. I did not notice the service fee on the receipt, unless the service fee was built into the price of the product. The cashier handed our bag to us and said, "There you go!"

I saw fans, heaters, books, rugs, foods and beverages, dish detergents, air fryers, pet toys, clothing, hair shampoos and conditioners, home decor, mattresses, vacuums, office supplies, and many other types of products. I had expected lower prices. I thought that the prices were average and not steeply discounted. Nonetheless, I chose a package of three name-brand scissors for $6, and my husband chose a package of candies for about $4. At the checkout, the cashier greeted us, accurately rang up our purchase, thanked us, and told us to have a good day.

It had already expired. He sent me two bags of Clover Valley buttered popcorn. I looked at the exploration date and that had expired in the middle of August 2019. I called the 800 number listed on their products. They use a third party service to receive the calls. Of course the operators were outsourced from a different country. I am still waiting for a response from Dollar General. Two days later I looked at the package of string cheese that was sent to me. Of course. It had expired in the middle of September. I was angry at this store and the company of having its staff doing a terrible job of checking date codes routinely. This certainly makes me never want to shop at any of the stores. If you do shop in the store, do yourself a favor and check date codes on all food and medication products.

During checkout, the cashier was friendly, and she correctly rang up my purchase and processed my payment. I bought a couple dozen products--Halloween decorations, candies, cleaning supplies, cat treats, beverages, hand soaps, rubbing alcohol, an air freshener, tissue paper, snack foods, shampoo, and body wash--for a total of $30. I noticed that the shelves were stocked pretty well, but sometimes merchandise was on the floors in the aisles. Products were often name-brand, such as General Mills, Arm and Hammer, Tidy Cats, Maybelline, and Crest. Prices were fairly low, and I picked several quality products to buy. The customer service was very good. When I was standing near the cash registers, an employee noticed me, and he offered to open another register for me. He politely greeted me, accurately rang up my purchase, and thanked me and wished me a good day.
