Eeh it's fine. A lot of things don't have tags which is annoying. I like buying their swimsuits but their fitting rooms are ALWAYS CLOSED! So I buy them then return if I don't like them which is already a pain bc now I have to make another trip. When trying to return, their "systems were down" and it took me over 1.5 hours to return 3 bikinis....they also couldn't return items from the west mifflin gabes for an unknown reason, so I had to take them back to that location. read more

Gabe's, which used to be called Gabriel Brothers, is a department store chain that sells off-price merchandise (i.e., excess goods that are sold at a discount). Merchandise includes clothing, shoes, handbags, health and beauty products, housewares, some pet supplies, some furniture, some food, etcetera. This particular location of Gabe's is at McIntyre Square shopping center. For years, I have shopped here off and on in the hopes of finding bargains. Today, when I entered the store, two employees were standing near the entrance, but they said nothing to me. I spent time looking through the departments, particularly women's clothing and shoes, pet toys and treats, and snack foods. Because the products are miscellaneous "leftovers," customers must spent time sifting through the racks and shelves to find their preferred products and sizes. I noticed that some products were name-brand (e.g., Adidas, Carhartt, Hurley, Levi's, and Puma), and many other products were less-popular brands. Furthermore, some prices were low, and other prices were moderate. For example, I saw a The North Face jacket for $45 when a comparable value is $100, and I saw a Columbia jacket for $70. Of course, not all products were available in my size. I selected slippers for $10, chip clips for $3, and sponges for $2. These prices were less expensive than other stores' prices for similar products. At the checkout counter, three cashiers were working. The line of customers moved slowly. My cashier said hello, and she accurately scanned my products, removed a security device, and charged my credit card. She opened the box of slippers to make sure that I did not hide and steal other products. I can afford whatever I want, and I have no interest in shoplifting, but I assume that she checks other customers' boxes as well. If you can afford to shop somewhere else, PLEASE DO! I am by far not an activist or Karen, but today I became both in my local Gabe's. Let me explain. I have been a Gabriel's Brother's shopper since they opened a store in Erie in the 90's (if I recall correctly). I made it from government housing as a kid to upper middle class as an adult. I suppose I forgot what it felt like to be disadvantaged. This experience reminded me - in spades!! I "adopted" a family (I know the grandmother. The daughter is struggling, so I offered to help out). Shoes are a big deal to me as I vividly remember having none that fit or didn't have holes. For this donation, I planned a $50 budget. A pair of sandals from Gabe's, and a pair of sneakers from Dick's discount store. The little girl tried them on and they were both too small. I had the receipt for Gabe's, but not for Dick's (please see their review. They were awesome!). Brought them back. No tag, but flawless; even had the stickers in the bottom AND I had pictures of the shoes on the actual rack. I had a RECEIPT. There is also not a return anywhere on my Gabe's profile (that they can see in their register), and I've been a customer since college (I am 46). They refused to allow me to swap out the shoes for a more expensive pair! I understand theft and whatnot, but I spent a decent amt in Gabe's. I spend the equivalent in Nordstrom's (taking into account the cost differences - I am talking comparable percentage). It should NOT matter whether I am shopping at Gabe's or Nordie's.. treating people decently needs to happen across the board. In my opinion, this store is a bottom feeder. They prey on those who can't afford to shop anywhere else. If Nordie's looked at my reward profile, there would never be a problem returning an item, even if it was used! These sandals were flawless with the sticker on the bottom of both still intact. Why is it an issue at Gabe's? This was my first returned item EVER! It was under $15!! Since they didn't have a like pair on their rack, they refused to swap them out for a more expensive item! I see returned items there all the time without the tag. They tie them together and stick on a clearance tag. In this case, they make MORE money! I will never, ever shop there again. I will blog everywhere I can, and will tell every patient or client about this experience. Being treated like an honest, decent human being shouldn't require a 6 figure income. I'm lucky. I fought my way out of poverty. I've been forced to shop in the cheapest of the cheap. I used to brag about my "Gabe's finds." Never again. I'll pay the few extra bucks and order online. Their policies are, imo, predatory. I had pictures of the shoes on the darn rack!! I went a bit "Karen.' I believe it was justified. I was so shocked by this outcome! One employee actually threatened to call the cops. Huh? Oh, please, please do. I didn't swear or throw anything. I felt offended in that store. You're darn right I am going to express myself! When you treat everyone like a thief or loser, you lose the customer base that can afford to "impulse shop." You sure as heck just lost me! I returned the sneakers to Dicks Outlet with no tags and no receipt. It wasn't an issue. They saw our profile and couldn't have been nicer. I'm done with Gabe's. After tonight, I'm not crying over the breakup. read more

In another example of how everything is worse post pandemic, the store has decided to close it's fitting rooms. This seems shortsighted to me as it eliminates the one benefit of shopping in the store over shopping online. I will never buy jeans without trying them on. Maybe that's why they have all their jeans on clearance. I miss the businesses culture where businesses tried to give their customers the best experience. read more

Hey Gabe's you sure are getting boujee for your irregular self. If you grew up going to Gabe's you know what I am talking about. I have been shopping at this chain most of my life. As a child I used to complain to my mom about going here when other kids got their clothes from the mall or Hills. LOL! Gabe's or Gabriel Brothers as it was once called used to have a concession stand in the entrance of the store much like Hills and the K-Marts before them. You could get some popcorn or a wrinkly old hot dog off the roller, or my favorite a blue Icee. Yes as a child if I had to go to Gabe's at least I got (or tried to get) an Icee. I returned to shopping at Gabe's in my twenties after taking most of my teenage years shopping at second hand stores for the "grunge" look. I guess I figured out why my mom kept coming back... Stuff was cheap. The caveat, it was slightly irregular.. Or completely irregular depending. Could I get those guess boots that have the $249.00 price tag for $24.99, maybe... What's wrong with them, I'll never tell... Now as of late I think Gabe's is trying to rebrand itself as somewhere more than just a cheap clothing store. They have food, electronics, bedding, home décor, kitchen ware, toys, automotive, and furniture. All of which seems a little overprices compared to their counterparts (HomeGoods, TJ Max, Marshalls, ROSS). This particular store was incredibly unorganized. Each rack had all different sizes and different season clothes on it. Most of the racks were overstuffed and there was lots and lots of clothes, hangers, dirt, and dust all over the floors, but yet you still wanted $16.99 for that small bowl sized birdbath? Price tags were not agreeing with some product that's for sure. And they are most likely low on employees like other places but still? I saw a cute Easter sign I liked until I flipped it over and it was $34.99?!? I'm almost certain I can find that elsewhere for $10.00 or less. On the other hand, there are still bargains to be found but you have to be a hunter not a farmer. It's a game or patience and sometimes you win and a lot of times you lose. read more

This is the best Gabe's I've been to. If you've never been to a Gabe's before, imagine TJ Maxx and Ross rolled into one but at cheaper price points. The selection in this store is unmatched in most departments. The Men's, Women's, Children's, Shoes, Housewares, and Gifts are all great. The Accessories/Handbags is not the best I've seen but still great. The sale/clearance racks are extensive. The Ladies'/Women's section has a great selection of workwear and activewear including those by name brands. I recently started by Christmas shopping there with all the gifts they have for under $20 and $10. And I'm not talking cheap gifts, these are QUALITY gifts that people will not only enjoy but be able to use. While I was there, I decided to buy raffle prizes for a work event where I ended up coming in $200 under budget. Now, the checkout lines can be long. When I was last here, managers and cashiers continually called for more cashiers to come to the register. None had come until the third call and when they were called by their individual names. So service could be a bit better, but the cashier who waited on me was extremely patient with my tax-exempt order. I'll be back tomorrow! read more
