I am in agreement with the majority of other reviewers. The experience with the dolphins was awesome. The trainers and staff were knowledgeable and seemed to have a good rapport with the animals. This can be a costly excursion, especially for large groups and families. The photographs were great and captured our moments perfectly. The down side is that the photos were about $70/person and you could not pick and choose. This on top of the cost for the activity can make this quite cost prohibitive for larger groups. read more

I paid about $470 USD for 3 tickets for a "dolphin encounter" that part was great and so were the trainers. When I arrived I asked where could we take pictures. They gave me some load of b.s. that I couldn't because the dolphins can't have any other objects beyond just the people they are encountering. Then I see a group of people taking photos... "I said what about those folks taking pictures?", they said they weren't doing the encounter and they're far enough away". I go on the encounter and see that not only are dolphins fine with photography (they actually pose) but the business has a professional photographer in house. As a traveler I knew right away what that means.... 'They are going to say I can only get pictures through them and for some astronomical fee'. I thought $20 per pic or something. We finish up and there's a very curated process to leave where they lead you through a slideshow, no prices (even if you ask) and at the end, they present 3 pricing options, $279 USD, $350 USD or $450 USD. BTW, all USD prices were intentionally covered up then they removed the sheild when I demanded to know. Here's the thing.... dolphins are great but the whole idea was to get pics of my kids with dolphins. Kids are kids, they forget moments later when they're onto the next adventure. As a single Mom, a trip to Cabo and the $450 USD to experience dolphins was a pretty big setback financially. To feel like I'd been had at the end because of some damn photos and a greedy business model made the experience feel really bad. Would never do it again, like ever ever. Hope you don't either. This was such a fun experience. I bought the dolphins royal swim plus package. It included a camel ride & feeding. The dolphins of course, & a meet & greet w/ a sea lion. The dolphins portion was the best!! So worth it!! I could finally check that off my bucket list now. The dolphins were so well trained & overjoyed!! Simba, & esp Cleopatra were so happy!! Not only that, but a fun & exciting boat ride w/ a lunch provided depending on the time you choose to do your activity. It could also be a late snack instead. Let's start with the positive reviews. The animals were amazing. We went with my three kids ages 6,8,10. They ask for the ages when booking the excursion. We booked and paid and showed up there. The shuttle was perfectly on time and making the appointments was easy. When we arrived, they said that our youngest was unable to participate because of his height. They said that a parent could go with him but they'd have to pay a full charge. We argued with them because it was already so costly and no one said anything prior to our arrival. After some time, they allowed my husband to go in so the youngest was able to experience most of this. They told my husband he couldn't bring his phone because he'd drop it into the ocean. They wouldn't allow me anywhere near the pools so I was running around the marina trying to capture as many moments as I could on camera. At the end, I realized why. They essentially make it so it very difficult to take any good photos and then they take their own. While walking us back from the encounter the gentleman asked us to remember to tip everyone that was there (we planned on doing that anyway but it just seemed pushy to ask for tips immediately after we got out of the water). The kids change and we go to look at the pictures. We asked to have them all digitally emailed to us (no other option). They stated it would be $47 PER PICTURE. We thought pesos, nope. Dollars. They wanted almost a thousand dollars for the pictures. They made up about 5 different prices for the "packages" none of which made sense. All of which were ludicrously priced. We couldn't believe it. We left with such a sour taste in our mouth. The dolphins were beautiful and amazing. I'm glad the kids got to experience this but then trying to rip us off at the end was crazy. The following day I asked the hotel concierge to call them and see what he could do. He called and they gave hI'm another completely different set of prices. This time is was 160/kid. I asked what he'd give me for $50. His response was you can pick 1 photo . If they understood anything about business and customer service they'd realize that instead of wasting time taking photos that no one would buy for that cost, make them reasonably priced and everyone will be able to enjoy them. Two stars for shady business practices. First off, this place is not cheap. Their photos are unreasonably expensive, and you're not allowed to take your own photos. Second, it's not the most comfortable experience....it's chilly in the water even in the wetsuit, and you're standing on a somewhat slippery algae-covered underwater platform. That said, the photos are beautiful & professionally done. But they should be upfront about how much the photos will cost instead of sweeping it under the rug at first. This place is emblematic of what can go wrong with a tourism-dependent economy...folks giving in to the temptation of taking advantage of outsiders, since there aren't many other options to make a living. read more

Had a great time here while on a girl's trip to Mexico (we decided on the dolphin encounter). As an animal lover, I truly felt in my element being amongst the dolphins and sea lions. You get the opportunity to interact with the animals under the supervision of their trainers. The trainers are very knowledgeable about the animals they work with and are more than happy to share that bit of knowledge. Staff members take pictures of your interactions and at the end you have the option of purchasing those pictures. The prices are a bit expensive though. Overall, the experience was pleasant. Let me start this by saying the Dolphin Experience, although expensive was a great experience. The trainers are amazing, dolphins well cared for. However, the minute the experience was over and we were show to get our pictures is why I would not reccomend doing this excursion with your family. They want $400++ for your pictures folks. There is NO option to pick a photo, you have to buy them all. The $400 was THE CHEAPEST option, and it was for a digital download to your phone ONLY It ruined the entire experience for my family. After coming to Dolphin Discovery the last three years, with wonderful result and great times, this trip was a pain from the start. The last two years we booked the Royal Swim plus with memories. This was the dolphin swim, camel ride, fast boat, towels, transportation to and from and lunch. It included the photos from the swim free of charge. (189 US) For a reasonable extra charge we were able to get the camel photos as well. We contacted Dolphin Discovery this time and said that package was not offered. Knowing in the past the add photos were reasonable, we figured to just add them once we were there. Nope not this time. Boat ride - down Towels - nope ran out the day before Oh you want the photos $220 US. Huh? Photos were more than the swim that were normally included. Oh sorry. How about $200. Best we can do is $170.... Right. When asked why they said the package isn't offered anymore but is still on the website. They blame it on a different department. The past three years brought over 20 guest for this attraction. Bet you can guess how many we will bring in the future. They got last peso they will ever get from me. Too bad as the activity is pretty nice, but spend my money where they don't try and rip me off. read more

Scam. Don't give them your money. I paid for a swim and ride package, but they schedule the "ride" part of it so that you have to wait two hours if you do the ride for the next shuttle back to the hotel. It's a steal! I went with my daughter and she wanted to swim with the dolphins. They said that the only kid is not available anymore which was about a $90. So I was forced to do the adult thing with her which is $258! Then in order to get the pictures after that it's another $186. The total was $442 for having the dolphin experience. In the US I paid $230 for the same deal. Mexico is supposed to be cheaper. Of course I went for it just to make my daughter happy. Those guys are pure scammers. We enjoy and will forever have memories, I highly recommend this one better then Cabo Adventure when it comes to dolphin swim, why Because the Dolphins are in open water not confined in a pool that does round and round !!! We booked direct via their website for $59 per person (essentially buy one get one) for the basic dolphin encounter experience. When you arrive, they give you a key for a locker which is essentially a giant wooden cubby hole structure with cabinet handles and small locks attached. A form we had mentioned the lockers were available with a deposit but we were just handed a key at checkin, no deposit was necessary. You cannot bring anything with you to the dolphin encounter that could fall off in the water. E.g. sunglasses, phone (as expected), jewelry etc. If you have a lanyard attached to your glasses or sunglasses, you may bring them with. Before your session starts you take a seat while they go over a few instructions for the encounter. After the instructions you begin your walk. On our way to the dolphins we stopped to feed a camel a carrot slice. We've fed camels before and this wasn't stated as a feature of the dolphin encounter. Was mostly just a photo op so they could try to sell you the photos again later. They took a solo picture of you feeding the camel then another couple/family/group photo of you next to the camel. After camel feeding time we walked to the dolphin enclosure. The walk to the camel was about 2min~ and the walk to the dolphin enclosure was another 2min~. I would be a little concerned about an elderly person walking if they aren't the strongest walker. When you get to the dolphin enclosure, they give you a life vest and then direct you into the water to stand on a raised platform along the wall. While in the water, you get a chance to do some pets on the dolphins belly and the dolphins back as she or he swims down the line in front of everyone. They do this a few times during the encounter. While in the water, they cycle through everyone so they can get the experience they paid for. While the people with the royal swim paddle out into the water, they'll have someone do their dance, hugs, and kisses with the dolphin. The whole experience goes pretty quick. While doing the experience, they kept offering that you could pay some more for the upgraded package. I think they ended up up selling 2 other people in our session. Throughout your encounter, they'll be taking pictures that you can purchase afterwards. At the end, you walk back to the building and they provide a towel and some showers for you to rinse off. The showers are public and outside. You dont get a through shower but can rinse off all the salt water. After rinsing you can view your photos and purchase them if you'd like. We couldn't justify the cost of the photos so didn't chose to buy any. This was already an experience we wouldn't forget and for the price of the photos, we could've done the encounter again. Overall it was a fun experience and a something i'd recommend people to try. The push to upgrade and all the photo ops was a bit annoying for us but we were able to mostly ignore it. PS. If given the choice, see if you can swim with Audrey. She was a great dancer. read more

However!!!, we are taking no pictures of this experience first, because they dont let us take any electronics in (understandable) but come on!!, 80 US dollars for a one person picture??? And $150 for 2 people??? Ohh and if you want a package with all your pictures you take a cd and its ONLY $400 US DOLLARS?!! COME ON NOW! Thats an abuse! I swam with the dolphins twice while In Cabo. Once with this company and the other time with Cabo adventures. I really enjoyed this facility better and I felt like I got to interact more with the dolphins. Taylor the dolphin trainer and her dolphin Bell were absolutely amazing!!!!! I'm honestly surprised by all the low reviews. Our hotel recommended offered a deal for this place. The dolphins are in a marina vs others where it's a pool. We got to do several dolphin activities and even a few small extras. The boogie board push and belly swim were the best. The trainer was very friendly and interactive. They had the Dolphins do lots of jumps and tricks for us too. Yes the pictures are expensive but you know that going in to a tourist destination. My parents came to observe and took their own pictures of us - farther away but a free option :) read more

I'm torn about 3 or 4 stars, I'm adding that star because the staff was accommodating when we forgot our wallets at the end. We read tons of reviews before our trip so I was prepared for the steep price of pictures. We actually went in fully prepared to look but not buy any. Also, we got our tickets by going through one of those nightmarish timeshare presentations that they try to sucker you into when you land in Cabo. And I will say.........that made it worth it. We paid about $150 for our entire family of six to get the package where you get to swim with the dolphins. TOTALLY worth it. So.....thinking about that, I realized that because there are so many ways to get discounted tickets to this place, and given that it actually looks like they keep the facilities nice for the dolphins, I think that the pictures is probably really the main way they pay their staff. So I understand that if you just booked off their website and didn't get discounted tickets, it would feel pretty crappy to then get stiffed for pictures. As has been said, everything is negotiable. They worked their way down to a decent price for the CD and we ended up buying it. They do end up with some great photos, and we got such a discount on the tickets I didn't mind it. Overall, tickets and CD, we still paid less than their website prices. The guy who did our little overview at the beginning was a total douche. So rude to everyone. They don't mention on their site and we weren't told when we bought tickets that they are pretty strict about their "nothing on your person" rule. My daughter had some recent piercings that they made her remove. And that first dude was a real jerk about it. But.......later in the water, there was a lady who didn't want to remove her rings so they made her put tape over them, which was stupid because she had giant strips of tape dangling off her fingers by the end of the experience which seems like way more of a choking hazard than secure jewelry. They do have towels, just not enough for everyone who could be there at once. We got towels, it wasn't that bad. The lockers are ok, but I would recommend just bringing limited stuff with you. Our trainer, Valerie, was super sweet and very good at her job and went out of her way to make it good experience for our group. We all had tons of fun. Overall, I would say you need to be prepared to haggle on the photos or just not get them. And look for discounts at your hotel for tickets. Even if you don't get the photos, it's really an amazing experience. Don't let the pic prices sour it for you.......it's a pretty awesome experience and worth it, especially if you can get yourself a good deal. read more

The photographer was asking if I flew to Cabo alone (none of his business) then kept being insistent that I had to leave with their shuttle (I had my own rental and didn't finish my excursion yet). Made me feel very unsafe. Yes I came alone to Cabo, but I met with my friend and her husband thankfully. We were all three there but they only approached me if they were a few feet away. I strongly advise you to research where these dolphins come from especially if you love dolphins. Here are a few reasons not to support Dolphin Discovery (swim with dolphin programs): 1) Captures of wild dolphins are traumatic and stressful and can result in injury and death of the mammals. The number of dolphins that die during capture operations or shortly thereafter are never revealed in dolphinariums or swim-with-dolphin programs. Some facilities claim their dolphins were "rescued" from the ocean and cannot be released. This claim is almost invariably false. Most of the dolphins in these programs were caught from the wild in extremely inhumane ways (if you want to learn more, just google "Taiji dolphin hunts") 2) The training of dolphins is often deliberately misrepresented by the captive dolphin industry to make it look as if dolphins perform because they like it. This isn't the case. They perform because they are deprived of food (unless they perform) 3) Most captive dolphins are confined in small tanks containing chemically treated artificial seawater. Dolphins in a tank are severely restricted in using their highly developed sonar - one of the most damaging aspects of captivity. It is much like forcing a person to live in a hall of mirrors for the rest of their life, their image always bouncing back with no clear direction of their surroundings. 3) Dolphins have been shown by scientific research to be sensitive, and capable of experiencing a greater range of emotions than humans. If you want to experience dolphins, you can instead choose a whale or dolphin watching tour so your children can see these beautiful animals in the wild. read more

My wife wanted to cross this off her bucket list...we got a discounted rate through our hotel...always check with hotels first, we saved 50%! When we arrived, we were given our instructions on what could be brought in...warning! Make sure you bring your own towel...one is not provided! You are not allowed to have any shiny jewlrey on so leave those back at the hotel...no cameras either. The experience with the dolphins itself was great! Had a great time...getting to swim with them is awesome...the big downside is that you can't take pictures...they charge $150 for the entire CD of pictures but we wanted just the one of my wife and I with the dolphin and they wanted $100! What a rip off....they wouldn't negotiate at all....the pictures are charged my how many people are in the picture...if it was just me, it wouldve been $47...with my wife and I, it was $50! Our dolphin encounter was fantastic. I completely recommend this company :) We signed up and there was a two for one deal. My husband, my two year old son and I went. It cost $100. We bought all the photos for $75, which was 141 digital pictures. Unlike some of the other review, I got a really good deal. **ask for the resident discount ;)** The water was clean when we went. Well the experience was amazing, the dolphins seem to be well taken care of and the trainers were very informative. We booked our excursion with Amstar and it should of included swim time with the dolphins a boat ride and lunch. When we arrived we ended up adding on more swim time for extra money and received a camel ride too. After returning from the time with the dolphins and the camel ride the guides made us feel like we should be leaving and kept pushing us to not do boat ride. But instead they wanted us to check out the photos which were awesome but holy cow totally over priced! One photo of 1 person was $47 dollars we were a family of 4 and they group photo was $100 US dollars!! For all the photos it would of been almost $400 US Dollars!!! They make this wonderful lifetime experience leave a sour taste in your mouth. I was just here with my family and the interaction with the dolphins is amazing. I mean its a beautiful experience. The part that left me very unhappy was were they charge $260 for family photos of 5 people. Or $100 for a single print of one person. They don't allow you to take your phone, it has to be kept in a locker so you really have NO choice if you want a photo memory of this experience. I get it. It's business. But $260?!!! You already paid $100+ per person for the tickets, they could definitely make the prices less outrageous. Everyone knows pictures at theme parks and other events like these are pricey but this is something else all together. It ruins the experience. My husband and I took our seven year old granddaughter to swim with the dolphins. It was an absolutely magical experience. Our trainer was Max and our dolphin was Cahal. Our group was small, but the learning was huge. We had done a similar experience in Kauai and it wasn't nearly as thorough. We learned so much about dolphins and how to be more aware of their needs in the ocean. Max was so patient and knowledgeable. A complete joy. read more

Personally, I think the price of what we paid for was pretty decent. Cabo adventures is $160 per person for 30 minutes, while Dolphin Discovery is 60 minutes for $95 a person. Included, we got a round trip shuttle from our hotel, a quick camel ride, dolphin experience, and a quick kayak race. Yes, just about everything you do is for the photos, but I thought our trainer was great and very nice. I had a blast doing the "dolphin push" being raised above water while being pushed by 2 dolphins! However, like most of everybody else, my wife was pretty disappointed about the picture prices... 550 pesos, or about $35 per picture, per person! Just for a photo of me and a photo of her would've been $70?! Quite ridiculous. They took 98 combined photos of us so they definitely try and get you with the photos... my tip? I believe somebody can watch everything standing by the life jackets so just have them take photos/video! read more

Found this on Los cabos passport with a 2x1 deal. Our family had a blast!! We did the royal swim and the interaction with the dolphins was AMAZING!! I highly recommend swimming with the dolphins! We purchased the photos which were very expensive because they do not allow you to use your camera. The only bad thing about the experience is that you are not allowed cameras, and the pictures taken by staff are approximately $50 a piece. You leave feeling badly about the experience. This adventure is amazing! Some definite points to consider. There are at least three different swimming with dolphins type of adventures and the Los Cabos area. We went with this company because it was the most affordable. We decided to forgo the photos and just enjoyed the experience. If you book the Adventure directly through the website then the photos are about $120 per person. After that time, the cost goes up incrementally depending on when you decide to purchase photos. We were also able to include transportation to abs from our hotel and lunch in our cost. The trainers and guides were very helpful and the dolphins are absolutely incredible. A camel ride/encounter was also included which was cool. There is also an add-on to hang out with a sea lion for a minute but we decided not to do that. We spent over an hour in the water taking turns engaging with the dolphin and we included the dolphin pull and the dolphin push which I would encourage anyone to do as a must and made the experience amazing. Overall you will pay less most likely to go with this company but they make their money on getting you to purchase the photo package. There is an area around the bay that someone could be watching and taking photos potentially but you are not allowed to bring any photographic equipment into the engagement area. read more
