I went for a haircut today that I scheduled last minute and they were so accommodating! I love my…read morehair and my stylist was incredible. Everyone was extremely friendly and it is a beautiful salon. 10/10 recommend and will be back to book with the same stylist.

Yes, I go to a salon to get my haircut. Go ahead, get it out of your system now. I'll wait…read more ... Done yet? Good. Thanks. I'm not a typical "give me a number 2 all the way around" kind guy, so I do care where I get it cut and for that matter, who cuts it. I've been going here for quite a while now. My commitment is shown in my willingness to, year after year, drive down here from Boston [North Easton, Quincy, Downtown Boston, and/or Medford, depending on the year] to get my hair snip snapped. Now that i'm temporarily local again, the distance has diminished quite a bit, but - I digress. Don't get me wrong, i've tried other places, but it never comes out as good. Hey, maybe I suck at explaining how I want my hair cut. I can live with that. My fault or not - they do good work. A lot of other places cut it too short, or cut it so straight I look like Lloyd Christmas on a good day. (Dumb & Dumber reference.) I like to come out with just a shorter version of the crazy spiked whateverness I walked in with. I can always tell they did a good job when I come home from getting a haircut and my dad looks at me, pauses, and then tells me that I should "go get a haircut." I would recommend Kiki and/or Rihanna (no, not THAT one) but anyone they hire would be a good choice. I like going to the same person because I can just go in and sit there and i don't have to explain a thing. On another note, Contours has been doing my mom's hair for years, and she does the whole 6-hour experience (cut, color, ....other hair things) and she's always happy - and trust me, if she's not happy, she would be the first one to tell you. The people are super friendly, there is always fresh coffee and some sort of food (bagels, pastries, and/or mini sandwiches) to munch on when you get there / before you leave. Not the cheapest place in the world, but in the grand scheme of things, $41 for a guy's haircut every 9 weeks isn't a big deal.

Sorry but this place is anything but serene. She did my hair once before and it looked good (though…read moreshe complained about how I should have purchased better grade hair, and that next time I should buy the hair she has in stock). Today, I went back after having booked an appointment for a 360 sew in. Though her attitude was not the best, I still wanted to support the hustle. I called on the day I booked my appointment to ask how to go about ordering 360 hair. She said it was on the site. I informed her that it wasn't on the site but booked the appointment anyways. I called several times before my appointment in an effort to order the hair. All my calls went to voicemail and none were returned. I showed up on the day of, and she very rudely said she couldn't do the 360 bc I didn't order it. She speaks to people in a very condescending manner. I informed her of my various attempts but she didn't seem to care. Okay, no problemo, i wasn't deadset on the 360. I told her I would do a sew instead. She didn't have the hair I wanted but I was willing to settle. I asked for a total and she said she didn't know. So I asked for individual prices. It's 180 to install, 75 for a bundle (she would use 2 pieces so 150) and 50 for the closure. My total would have been almost 400. That was far from what I bargained for, so I politely declined, informed her that her prices on the site were misleading, and left. Do with this information what you will. I'm more mad at her lack of people skills than her prices. She needs to learn to not speak to people in a such a rude, condescending, belittling manner.

Weird vibe w/owner and lack of understanding of natural hair. I think she's good for weave and…read moreextensions but 180% not natural hair. It's always indicative when the regulars show up with broken hair along the perimeter. I did my best to tolerate my service all the way through but just had to pay and walk out when I smelled the burning edges of the other girl in the chair. No matter how much heat protectant is on, you should never smell that. I alerted her in advance that I had 3 inches of natural growth and the rest was straight. She agreed it was fine and that she could handle. Of course I arrive and she does things that make any stylist cringe. My 4c hair did not grow 18 inches by going to stylists like this.. AA ladies, no one should ever do the following to your hair. - she washed my hair by scratching at my scalp with her nails which is bad for the follicles and leaves the scalp weak as you're combing through later. It's better to use fingertips to avoid roughing up the scalp. - she held the blow dryer **less than an inch from my hair** as she blowdryer which strips the hair of moisture and fries it. I don't do this and neither have any of my other hairdressers. They advise that 10-15 inches is best, but around 6 inches if you're in a rush. After she blowdryed on low - then on high - she put me under the dryer on high. I sensed that she was rushing and told her I wasn't in a time crunch and oddly she seemed to take that as condescending - the shampoo smelled great but was super suddy and had sulfates which dry out AA hair by overstripping it of natural moisture and nutrients. - to top it off, she combed my natural hair from the root when detangling, but it's better to start from the ends to avoid a lot of breakage. All in all, she knows some areas of hair which is clear from her photos but strongly advise against if you have natural hair. I recommend heading up to New Haven instead to Hair's Talent (Gina is an expert with natural hair) or NYC to Hayato (Japanese but very dedicated to top service and maintaining hair health whether curly or straight). Edit: plug added because black women pay out of the nose for "beauty" and still have professionals damaging our hair. We ought not to have to scour the internet searching for people who can take care of it with integrity. As someone who's never needed a weave for the past 20+ years, I feel very qualified on this one ^
