CAUTION: Absolutely DO NOT recommend. I booked an appointment for a simple blowout and showed up expecting a professional experience. Instead, I was quoted an outrageous price "$165 for a basic blowout." I will own that I didn't confirm the price beforehand, but that number was outrageous. Nevertheless, I was dire need of a blowout so despite the shady price, I decided to go through with it. Once I was in the chair, the stylist took a personal phone call and stayed on it for over 10 minutes, while I just sat there. No greeting, no explanation, just me waiting while she chatted and laughed away. At one point she even sat down mid-call while I was still waiting. My time meant absolutely nothing. No other clients were there, and the call was clearly personal. Then astonishingly, before beginning the service, she attempted to take yet ANOTHER CALL. That was the last straw. I got up to leave and she jumped in front of me offered to reduce the price to the "regular" rate of $85. Which begs the question: why wasn't I quoted that price to begin with? This woman is unprofessional, disrespectful, and completely wasted my time. She lacked basic courtesy and is simply not worth supporting. Really Disappointing Experience... I have previously left a Yelp review and was really happy with my visit. My visit on Saturday June 9th, was my last and final visit as I was really really disappointed at the bait and switch tactics the shopped pulled on me. I had emailed the business about an appointment. I have always dealt with Mercedes who was great. "Mercedes" contacted me to confirm the address and to confirm my appointment. When I let them know on Saturday I would be later than normal, "Mercedes" stated it was fine and that I would be okay being a few minutes late. When I walked in, "Mercedes" was not around but her sister was there. I looked around for her and was then told that she wasn't in the shop today but that her sister would be doing my hair. I should have left but I needed my hair done. I go to the restroom and when I exit, her daughter is on the phone telling me how sorry she was for not letting me know this and was very apologetic. We hung up and her sister started to work on me. Wash and roll up were fine but the blow out was quite painful - nothing like the real Mercedes. When it came time to pay, some guy named Mike, told me it would be $85. FOR WHAT!? Normally it's about $40 of $45 when I visit and I told them both that I would NOT be paying $85 to anyone. They were shocked that I seemed to know the pricing and confirmed when they asked if I had been there before. They then said $65 and again, not budging I told them no. I then asked Mike who had contacted me like it was "Mercedes" and he said it was him. When I asked why he lied, he had this catatonic blank stare and said "I dunno" At that point I was done, not only did they lie to me about "Mercedes" they even emailed me under the guise that it was "Mercedes" Done and done. I settled for $50/ No one apologized and the funny thing is that it's normally pretty busy but on this Saturday, I was the lone "victim" in the chair. NEVER AGAIN! read more

Mercedes is the best. It's typically tough finding a really good Dominican on the west coast, especially coming from NYC standards. But she is worth the drive to Reseda. She's the real deal and doesn't use excessive heat. Just enough to get the job done. I moved here from New York City a year ago. I've been going to a Dominican salon for 15 years and it's been a nightmare trying to find a good stylist here. I've tried other Dominican salons and they damaged my hair to where I ended up chopping off 9 inches to start over. I found Mercedes on Yelp and she was heaven sent! I called and was told I could walk in that morning. My mother and I received wonderful treatment. She requested a wet round brush blow out and I did roller set with round brush finish. She uses all the products I'm use to and was an amazing and warm personality. I'm also very funny about only letting my Harlem stylist trim my hair, but she was a wizard with the scissors and gave me the great blunt cut I wanted. Leaving no slit end standing. She took me immediately on a Tuesday and offered me a special that she has on Tuesdays and Wednesdays: $45 (depends on length though- my hair is shoulder length). My hair looked amazing and healthy after my visit with her. I'm definitely going to see her weekly from now on. Her salon is in the back of the Insurance company office-you just have to walk thru the hallway and enter thru the door. I am very disappointed in the results of my keratin treatment. I washed my hair today after three days of my treatment and my hair looked as before having the treatment. I came in today looking to get a relaxer done on my hair. Now I'm very picky about who does my hair but it turned out better then I thought it would. Coming from the East Coast to the West coast I was worried I wouldn't find someone to do my hair the way I like it. But Mercedes completely changed my perspective. I've never been so happy. This includes: NYC, Seattle, Chicago, Seattle, and Alaska. Yes I get around. Best customer device, clean, great head wash. 3 times like your supposed to. Consideration of my delicate porous formerly platinum Blonde hair. Offered me water and coffee! I had asked if there was a place I could order food and this amazing women showed up with a plate of rice and chicken because I was starving. There is NOTHING more hospitable then braking bread with a stranger from your own food!! This is how Latinos roll. I feel at home like I'm at a family members house. Got a deep condition and a roller set. Hair is feeling luxurious, tummy full, price was affordable. 60$ for wash and set & $25 for special deep condition. There is an online appointment setting. Be aware there are 2 locations. I am at the one on Ventura not roscoe. I believe she works at both tho! Parking is plentiful. Love it!! Definitely see Mercedes ! I decided to try this salon out due the high ratings and amazing reviews. I come from the East Coast where Dominican Salons are easily found and cheaper but hey we are in LA so it comes with a price. Mercedes was awesome! I spoke to her via phone and text and explained to her my hair-loss situations, diagnosed as Alopecia which comes and go and at this time the shedding and balding have started again so I was ready to take off some length in attempt to reduce the shedding and look fuller. First appointment she talked me through the process and we only did a small trim to even it out and for me to get comfortable with her and to take my time to think on it because she really wanted me to preserve my hair and not make an emotional decision. I returned about 3 weeks later knowing I needed and wanted more cut off and she did just that! But she did it with such grace and respect by doing it a little at a time to get to the hairstyle I was inspired by with a picture I showed her. At first I was annoyed that she wasn't just going for the big chop like I imagine just picking up scissors and saying screw this hair-loss and snipping a big chunk of hair but instead she walked me through the process to ensure I was comfortable with how much she was taking off and to give her permission to cut more. The cut and style came out gorgeous! Raving reviews and support from my sisters, friends, social media friends. She gave me great tips to take care of my hair & my edges & she was so friendly & knew what to do to make my hair better for me. I'm glad I went there. I take extremely good care of my hair due to the fact that I used to get relaxers. And everyday, I'm a littler more disappointed at what happened when I went to go get styled. Basically what happened, I went in asking for a relaxer... at the time I was in dire need of it cause had been about 4 months overdue. I called over the phone, explaining what I wanted. Usually relaxers range from $50-120. At least in my experience. After sitting in the chair and taking my hair out of the ponytail, she starts talking about getting the Keratin treatment instead. And I know I want the relaxer and I tell her that. Been doing relaxers since I was 9... it's what I want and I literally just need a touch up. But she keeps persisting on the Keratin treatment. This went on for about 10 minutes. And I was like okay, fine, what's your price. She says it's going to be $300 for the keratin. I know I don't want the keratin for real now. And she keeps persisting. I explain to her that I want to get the relaxer. She then proceeds to say, "If you think you're going to get the relaxer for something cheaper than the Keratin you're wrong. I gotta make a living." I should've left at this point, but it's been SO DIFFICULT to just find someone that will do what you want and will take care of your hair... So being the weak a** that I am, I gave in to the keratin. Here we are, a few months later. I. Hate. My. Hair. Keratin over the relaxer I already had (that she knew about since I obviously only needed a touch up) destroyed my hair. Even with deep conditioning, taking care of it, barely applying heat, getting faithful haircuts- it's breaking off like crazy. I'm finally transitioning to natural hair, because there's no way I can put any chemicals in my hair in this state, but I'm so sad and can literally only wear my hair in small buns anymore. The nice review you see up at top, she kept asking me to give her a good review and had a sign up in her salon that was an "award" from yelp. So. Giving into the fact that someone needs to make a living, I posted a nice review. All those things were true, she did give me good tips. But she did destroy my hair too. read more

She is so welcoming and friendly, always asking if I was comfortable yet ensuring my hair was done the right way, with no flyaways, bumps, or frizz.
