We don't order Mediterranean food enough, especially considering how many places we have available…read moreto us in Syracuse. This place was close by and relatively new, so we gave it a go. We've been jonesing for a good shawarma for ages, so we went with beef shawarma over rice, and lamb chops over rice. We threw in some beef sambusas and eggplant salad. The only complaint we had was the wait time. We showed up when they told us to, but ended up waiting about 25 minutes in store for the food. The staff were really friendly, and had we not ordered to go, it would have been a comfortable place to dine in. The lamb meat was tender and delicious. Not a ton of seasoning, but probably because it didn't need it. I'm seeing more and more places doing red and white sauce like the Halal Guys in NYC, and I'm all about it. The red sauce is bold and spicy, the white sauce is cool and refreshing, like Greek yogurt. They go amazing together, and I'd eat them on anything. It included two heavily seasoned pieces of pita. I'm guessing they were seasoned specifically for this meal, because the fresh mint garnish added a huge layer to the lamb meat. If you order this, I recommend asking for a ton of extra pitas seasoned just like that, even if you have to pay more. The shawarma is one of our favorites. They're not stingy with the sauce, and there's a good mix of veggies and lettuce. Extra credit for Lebanese pickles, they went a long way. The beef was a little chewy, but packed a punch. It's coated in a thick brown sauce that tastes similar to A1, but the meat itself is packed with different tastes - most notably nutmeg. I'm guessing they season it with garam masala. We definitely would have ordered some pitas if we knew it didn't include them. The sambusas were packed full of ground beef. The texture was pretty tough, but once you get past the corners they're so packed it doesn't matter. It seemed to be mostly just ground beef with little or no seasoning, but it came with a pretty flavorful dip. Not sure if it has a name, but it's Greek yogurt whipped into a frothy mixture and mixed with mint. It had a super light and airy texture that didn't match our expectations for a yogurt based dip. If you leave it for too long, it'll fall back down into an unpleasantly thin liquid like whipped cream. Texture aside though, the taste is immaculate and turned a bland sambusa into a full spectrum of flavor. Finally, we have the eggplant salad. This was our first time trying it, so I have nothing to compare it with. We tried to Google it to get a feel for what we were ordering, and the images were all over the map. I'm not sure if there's a standard or if it's a free for all. What we got was a very creamy mix of eggplant, roasted red peppers and onions. I'm guessing a lot of the creaminess is tahini, which gives it a toasted/smokey taste. It was unlike anything we've ever had before, and we're absolutely hooked. I'll definitely make sure I have pitas for it next time, it's pretty intense eating something this creamy by itself. This has been one of our favorite take out meals in a while. I hope these guys are here to stay.

The food was incredible, the…read moredelivery was on time, Kuukua was so helpful in advising on the menu, and she was patient and accommodating when my head count got bigger less than 48 hours before the event. I ordered for 18 people, for a weekend event at The Ohio State University. Everyone loved the food, from the foodies to the non-adventurous eaters who'd never had Ghanaian food to vegan and gluten-free guests. I ordered a chicken curry, red-red (a hearty dish with black-eyed peas), saffron rice, egusi (a yummy spinach dish that was vegan but tasted like a better version of American creamed spinach), a blend of carrots / cabbage / other root vegetables, fried plantains, and a vegan rice pudding. The vegans and gluten-free eaters did an actual happy dance when they saw that a) Kuukua had listed all ingredients for each dish on the catering lids and b) other than the chicken curry, most of the food was vegan and gluten free. You could tell that everything was made from scratch, with love and attention. My guests loved all the dishes, but the chicken curry, egusi, and saffron rice were the biggest crowd pleasers. Everybody, including the meat eaters, cleaned their plates and went back for seconds. It was also affordable, very comparable in price to catering from local Indian and Chinese restaurants. In case you couldn't tell, I couldn't be happier. I've already recommended Asempe to my day-job company for a future event, and I look forward to visiting Kuukua at her pop-up at The Hills Market Downtown.

I did find a person who visited this one and another one, Jianghu Café and so I asked her if I could only visit one, which do I do, and she said Jianhghu was the winner winner Szechuan lunch. I did go there and it was great! But I found myself having one additional dinner time without plans, so I came here as well. Walking in, I noticed what appeared to be a common Asian Massage Parlor next door, yo uget to it via the entry way that bring you here as well. Kinda odd, but it didn't bother me. Walking into this restaurant, it's very nicely laid out and beautifully décor'd! The servers and staff spoke great English and were very helpful, especially when answering questions about their menu. I started with their Garlic Cucumbers, but I asked for them to be spicy and Wow, they did a GREAT job with them! They weren't very hot, but so much spiciness and flavor - I loved them! Next up was to get their cumin chicken. They do cumin style in all their proteins, which makes for some great options. I chose their basic fried rice to come with this. The fried rice and cumin chicken were both amazing... Perfectly spiced and loaded with flavor. There were several Szechuan peppercorns in the dish, which added to the aroma and flavor of the dish. Overall - I really like this dinner! While I do feel Jianghu is slightly better, this is amazing as well!

I wish the menu provided more details about what was included in each dish. When I tried the Kung Pao Chicken, I bit into something twice that caused a strong burning sensation in my mouth. I'm still not sure what it was, because it looked like chicken at first. I also ordered the Orange Chicken and the General Tso's Chicken (extra spicy), but neither dish was spicy at all, or fresh tasting. All chicken dishes were drowned in bland sauce. Since it was our first time and we weren't sure how the food would be, we decided to order from the lunch menu. In hindsight, we all regretted that choice and felt we should have tried something else instead.

We ordered the Large Fricassee Chicken (with chicken leg and chicken tender) and the Small Curry Chicken. The woman who was working was very kind, answered all our questions, and gave us recommendations! The small entrees came with 1 side which was the Cabbage (meat also served over rice and beans). I absolutely loved both meats I tried. The Fricassee Chicken had both juicy and some slightly tougher spots but was overall very flavorful. It came with bell peppers which brought a nice bright crunch to the heavier meal. The Curry Chicken was also very flavorful and saucy. For the sides: Personally, I'm not a mac and cheese fan but this was soo good. I highly recommend getting the large; great portion size and definitely can fill you up for 2 meals easily. I loved trying a bit of everything together - the chicken, the mac and cheese, the sauce, the rice and beans... soo good. I'd recommend you come and support a locally owned business!
