You gotta love Dom. I had a favorite pair of heels that I was going to replace but a friend recommended Dom's. They were coming apart and for only $5 Dom fixed them in a week. He added grip under the heel so it wasn't as slippery, and repaired the heel and strap so it was like new. He is very "old school" and doesn't have a fancy receptionist or booking system, but somehow he remembers which shoes belong to you. It "looks" disorganized and chaotic, but that's Dom! He doesn't take Venmo, Apple Pay or credit card, and as Dom says, "cash is king." He gets the job done and gives you your shoes back in a used plastic bag. Gotta love him! read more

HE KNOCKS ANOTHER ONE OUT OF THE PARK!!!!! Ok, side note....I'm an idiot! Seriously, I put my $4,500 Louis Vuitton on a freaking stove and accidentally turned it on high! Next thing I know, I have an expensive $4,500 fire!!!! What an idiot! The bottom was completely charred, LV's falling off everywhere (hysterically crying as I type this). You could see right through to the inside of the freaking bag!!! In a panic, I put out the fire and call Dom (embarrassed as hell!) I tell him what a moron I am and ask if I can bring the bag in and see if he can work his magic. I'm up there bright and early the following day to show him the carnage. He agreed that I did a number on it but he would try to fix it anyway (you have no idea how relieved I felt!) I really thought I just threw $4,500 out the window (or up in flames!) This was not an easy fix. He had to repair the binding and try to match the leather and pattern and salvage the "feet" and original leather straps. I was for sure he was going to tell me it would be impossible. Well, today I picked up my bag-guess what? IT'S PERFECT!!!!!!! It is BEYOND PERFECT!!!! It looks like I was never the idiot that lit their purse on fire! Everything matches, the leather, the pattern, even the natural Patina!!! I was BLOWN AWAY!!!!! I honestly am so, so grateful for Dom. He has salvaged many of my bags that I thought were beyond repair. He is a GENIUS!!!!! Hopefully, I don't light anymore purses on fire, but if I do, I know where to go!!! I have used Dom's several times for shoe repairs. Every time I have found the people in the shop friendly and helpful. The repairs have taken about a week, not a problem for me. They are good quality craftsmanship and I have been pleased with the finished repair. I will continue to use them. Since I only use Dom's I do not how the cost compares to other shoe repair shops but I have not found the charges to be excessive. read more

I brought my old Dr Marten oxfords in for repair. These shoes have seen better days but, they have a lot of sentimental value to me. I have literally walked a whole lot of miles in the shoes in a lot of far away places. They have held up very well and lasted a long time. I have tried to get them repaired at a couple of other places and no one wanted to touch them. Dom's said they could resole them and do a much needed repair to the heel that involved some restitching. Viola, I have my new refurbished Dr Martens. From all appearances the job is top notch and the charge was 65.00. Now I know that new Dr's are about $80.00 but they are made in Thailand and I think are of lesser quality. These old ones are made in England and in my mind superior. The one thing about Dom's that could be improved is to get rid of the smoking in the store and run a vacuum in the customer area. Yea, I know it;s a shoe repair place but it would make it a little nicer. It would have moved it up to 4 stars, 5 stars if he could have repaired my vegan shoes. read more

Good quality shoe repair in a timely fashion! I'm attaching photos before and after. The heel of my favorite black Chelsea boots wore out and I brought them by. I decided to go with the more durable heel type (35 dollars) as opposed to the general resurfacing because these are my favorite and most worn shoes. They look AWESOME and most importantly, don't look super masculine--the heel looks totally fashion forward. The shoes were freshly cleaned and polished and look and feel brand new. I'm a fast walker! I walk with purpose! Boots are made for walkin', right?! Yea, yea. I can call it whatever I want, the truth is, my posture isn't awesome and I walk heavy on my heels....which are usually stilettos that I torture by walking across Philly's less-than-leveled streets, working a busy shift in, or drunkingly stumbling around in at the club. (Classy.) Whatever I'm doing, I'm usually giving my shoes a beating, and looking fabulous doing it. That said, I've been going to Dom's for about the last year to heal my lost soles (I'm punny, aren't I?!). And WITHOUT FAIL, he is the most consistent, most reasonably pricest, speediest shoe repair in the city!!! Just last week, I took in a pair of stiletto boots to get re-heeled and a pair of 8.5 pumps (yea right) to get stretched. Grand total for shoes that look nearly new and fit like gloves--$15!! The place in the Piazza wanted $25 just for the heels and it would take a week!!! Seriously?? Those little tips cost like a dollar!! He always goes above and beyond by (i guess) painting the heel to look new, patching up and polishing the little bumps and bruises and always has them ready the next day! Total, I must have brought him 20 pairs and he always does a great job! He is THE ONLY shoe repair I will go to in the city. read more

I brought a pair of my boyfriend's 60-year-old work boots in desperate need of resoling to Dom's only because my first choice cobbler (my first choice due to stronger recommendations from friends) was closed the day I lugged the huge shoes into town. As a first time cobbler customer, I accepted the $65 fee he charged for the Vibram's and their installation without question. Based on the quality of the work, I would have given Dom 5 stars. Those boots look brand new. Amazing. But, after doing some after-the-fact research, I think we were slightly taken advantage of. I believe the average price for this service should be more like $50 - less if you purchase your own soles on eBay and only use a cobbler to have them installed. That brought him down to 3 stars for taking us for saps. The reason I settled on four, though, is because the place is right out of a storybook. Dom's sparse teeth are as brown as the polish permanently jammed under his fingernails, the store reeks of 30-year-old Pall Mall butts, and I'm pretty sure the resident shoe shiner is a corpse. Maybe it's authentic, maybe it's not, but I think it's awesome. read more

This will likely be one of my only 1-star reviews on Yelp. Why? Because I think people that behave as unprofessionally as this usually don't stay in business long. I went in to get my shoes shined--a relatively simple proposition. 5 minutes later, I get them back--the result: a mediocre shine with a couple of missed spots, but fine for the week. When I went to go pay, Dom told me he wouldn't accept my credit card even though there was no sign with a minimum; when I asked him to feel free to charge me a premium his reply was "why don't you go walk 3 blocks to your ATM and come back--until you do that, I'm not giving you your shoes back." At that point, he literally took the shoes off the counter and put them in the back so they were out of my reach. Good luck staying in business when you act like a thug! read more

I came here on the recommendation of a friend. I didn't need extensive repair done on my shoes, just the bottoms of my heels needed to be fixed on a pair of boots. They fixed them up and buffed them for a reasonable price, and they even got it done on time. I have little to no complaints with the service. From other reviews, it looks like dye jobs aren't the best here, but they seem to get plenty of business on a regular basis. I need more shoes to be repaired, and I'll probably go to the place closer to me. But if you live near here, they are pretty good! read more

So after having mysterious stains spilled on my grey suede heels (happens often in dark bars), I needed to take them somewhere. The guy, who I'm assuming is Dom?, was really nice. He told me that he couldn't guarantee that he'd be able to lift the stain (given how stubborn suede can be) but he'd try his best. I gave it a shot, it was only $8. (I called other places, they wouldn't even touch suede) I picked them up after a week and I was very satisfied! The stain isn't completely gone, but you can't even tell unless you're looking really close. And who does that? All in all, they looked much better than they did when I brought them in. He even suggested that if I wanted to leave them here another week, he could work on them more. Store could use a makeover, but overall if I had more shoes to repair, I'd take them here! read more

In the middle of the day I realized that I had completely lost the tip on one heel of a new pair of boots. Last thing i wanted to do was damage the heel any further... I popped into Dom's and he was able to replace both tips in less than 10 min. The boots looked perfect and he even shined them up for me, and only charged $8! Updating my old review: I went back and told the owner I was unhappy, especially with the heel, and he redid it for me free of charge and spent alot of time with me helping me get the right thing. They now look even a bit better than they did before I left them, and I'm truly glad I had the heel done too, now that it's the right height. Great place. Recommended to go to by the head shoe guy at Boyd's. I figured they would be the best people to ask for a shoe repair store. I dropped off a pair of Allen-Edmonds to be resoled. Not only was he really quick, but the resoling job was less expensive than other places and done exactly to my liking. Really great work. He even painted the bottom of the sole black in order to match the rubber oversole I had him put on in addition to the full leather sole. I had a pair of Hugo Boss loafers I wanted to add a piece of rubber to the bottom of the sole to extend the life of them, since they had very thin soles. He finished the job in a few days. Another perfect job. The soles on these shoes were curved and the rubber vibram he put on it follows the contour perfectly. I am very particular about my clothing and shoes (both pairs cost over $300 each) and I couldn't have been happier, especially since it cost less than other places. It also took only 3 days to do each job, less for the loafers. Dom (I believe that's the owner's name) is a nice guy too. read more

This shop really goes above and beyond to fix your shoes. Took my boots in to get the heels repaired and paid $20. When I picked them up, they looked like new- in addition to repairing the heels, the shop fixed the scuffs, got rid of salt stains, and polished my shoes, all without my asking. This is my first time getting any shoes resoled (Fleuvog boots). The boots had very thin soles so immediately they wore off including some parts of the wooden part of my heel. Their website did not post their business hours: M-F 7:30a-5:30p and Sat (some shorter hours during the day). I was very satisfied with my boot heel replacement. The new heel is a tad harder and thicker and they filled in the missing wooden part of the heel that I've worn off and buffed them off to a darker hue for $14 for the pair. I dropped them off late Friday afternoon and was promised to be done on Monday noon time, but I picked them up on Tuesday morning. I had a great experience for my first time. I took my expensive Christian Louboutins here to be dyed since I had heard that this place was one of the best in the city. Boy, what an overstatement. I wanted my studded gray CLs dyed black. I SPECIFICALLY told them to please, please, please be careful not to get any dye on the red soles because that is what makes a Louboutin a Louboutin. I also asked if they could dye it without covering the studs. They told me YES. They would tape off everything that wasn't going to be dyed and it would turn out perfect. I came back a week later, like they told me. Only 1 shoe was half done. So they told me another week. I came in to pick them up today to find the worst dye job I have ever seen in my life. There was black dye all over the studs, all over the inside and the toe box, and (worst of all) all over the red soles. Besides the damage, all of the gray had not even been dyed. There were random un-dyed patches everywhere. I told them that this was not the kind of work I was promised. Then they changed their story and said that it would have been impossible to tape off the studs. They said I should not have even tried to get them dyed. When I questioned why there is dye on the inside and why the red soles are covered in black dye splotches, they said "I don't know". They told me they could TRY to remove the dye but that the red might come off, too. I told them this is completely unacceptable. And then they gave me an attitude. They said "Look, we already told you we could remove the dye. I don't understand why you keep standing here talking." If the job could not be done, they should have told me ahead of time. I understand it was a tedious job, what with all the studs, but there is no excuse for getting dye all over the inside and soles. He said the dye would come off as I walked. ....YOU DON'T WALK ON THE ARCHES OF THE HEELS. I asked for my money back and they told me they dyed my shoes like I asked, so what more do I want. I just took my shoes and left. They must be crazy to think I would leave my shoes there for them to "fix". I instead took them to Superior Shoe Repair near 15th and Walnut. I have taken shoes there before, so I should've went there to begin with because I know they are used to dealing with designer shoes. They said they could fix it, so I will be reviewing them when I pick them up this week. read more

This is the second time I've come in for minor services. The first time, I needed an extra hole punched into the leather of my sandals to make them buckle tighter. He did it on the spot, free of charge!! The next time, I needed these painful (and painfully beautiful) shoes stretched. He did a great job...now I can wear them without any pain! My mom has been using Dom's for a few years, so I knew already he did good work. I had a pair of really cool, unique Roots sandals with a broken zipper. It cost $40 to have the zipper replaced (I LOVE these shoes) which seemed reasonable since I've seen the quality of his work and can't replace the shoes. He did a fantastic job. The only frustration is that his work looks better than the other shoe with the original zipper, but it's only obvious to me. You want a skilled craftsman in Rittenhouse? It might be a little expensive, but in this case you get what you pay for. read more

Excellent customer service and good repair job! They leveled out my boot heels and put new rubber on my soles quickly and professionally. And when my boots started making a squeaking noise when I got them back, Lee (I think that's the gentleman's name but if I'm wrong, I'm sorry!) fixed the noise, and always with a smile on his face and a quick explanation of what he was doing. They did an awesome job fixing up my shoes (and I demolishhhhhh my heels so I am super impressed--the most amazing job yet was what he did to my destroyed Jimmy Choo leather knee-length boots). I thought the place was a bit pricey ($9 to fix the heel tips) but they always do an awesome job (e.g., fix up torn or ruined leather, paint jobs). The place isn't the cleanest joint but the same guy works there every day and does good reliable repairs in a reasonable amount of time. Dom moved about a year ago, over to the other side of Walnut Street - a few doors in - towards Locust, on the East side of the street. I've been gong to Dom since I moved into the neighborhood about 12 years ago. He's re-heeled my walking shoes 3 or 4 times on each pair, and put new soles on most of them less often. To take the back off the sole of a new pair of Clark's driving shoes, so I can replace the heels regularly, he charged $25 today. He'll replace those heels 3 or 4 times, till I wear the rest of the shoe out, or get sick of them. I took the shoes in Tuesday, said I needed them before Saturday. We agreed on Friday; I went in at 3 today and they were ready - no problem. I can't remember a time in the past dozen years that shoes weren't ready when promised. His work is good, prices were a bit lower than others in the area when i first went to him. I have no idea how his prices compare now. I brought in a pair of boots to resole. The quoted price was $40 - I could buy a new pair of shoes with that, but I agreed because I liked those boots. It took three days, which is fine, but what a sloppy job it was! I mean, the soles are there, but the cuts and edges are uneven, like everything was done in a hurry and with little care. I sent in a new pair of brown suede shoes to be soled. There was a band of nylon strap that ran across the upper and it was fringed and damaged when I received it. The work was absolutely atrocious, especially considering that this was a new pair of shoes. There was also black shoe polish and dressing randomly dotted every where and also on the band. When I went there he called my shoe "cheap" and that he just rubbed the spots with a towel. Totally upsetting. I posted pictures of the damage.
