Well I have to be very honest guys, as I was really not sure how dinner at Don Benito was going to go tonight but all I have to say is.... WOW! This restaurant is just over a year old in the Palermo Hollywood district of Buenos Aires and they really do have their act together. They are firing on all cylinders where presentation, location, customer service and ambiance are concerned. So much so that all the established steakhouses in Buenos Aires such as Don Julio, Galdin, etc. better seriously start considering upping their game and overall customer service.
Don Benito sources their beef from a very exclusive area of Argentina and the meat is so tender, you can cut it with a spoon. Yep you heard me right with a spoon. To kick things off we ordered the Provoleta Don Benito which is a special grilled cheese with a special sauce they make in house. Perfect size appetizer if you ask me, so you leave enough room for the excellent steaks that are to come. Plenty of others to choose from as well but typically I like to go light on appetizers as you really want to enjoy the chops. For our main courses we all went with the Argentinian ribeyes commonly referred to as the "Ojo de Bife" cut in two varieties. First one was the "Ojo de Bife" Al Malbec and the other was the "Ojo de Bife" "Don Benito". Both of these steaks were amazing and I am pretty sure that all other items on the menu are just as good. They also have an excellent selection of local Argentinian wines so you are all good to go on that front. We ordered a local Malbec wine that was excellent, to compliment our meal.
That said, I would be remiss if I did not highlight our Peruvian server ("Mozo in Spanish") Jimi Wisley for providing us with spectacular service from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left. Outside of the quality service, all the staff were very friendly, courteous and really made us all feel at home. Rounding the home stretch we finished off the evening with an ice cream dish that had multiple flavors of ice cream that was amazing; also, we ordered the obligatory Cafe Macchiato's.
So your probably thinking Nelson, what's the final verdict? Well if you haven't figured it out yet, simply put, if you are looking to enjoy an excellent dinner at an awesome steakhouse, you need to include Don Benito on your evening itinerary. If your are staying in the Palermo district, you should be able to walk their pretty easily. Staying somewhere else in Buenos Aires, not a problem either but I highly recommend you UBER or take a taxi. Now there are definitely no shortage of great steakhouses in Buenos Aires everyone but Don Benito is definitely one you all need to experience. Wishing you all a wonderful stay in Argentina, Enjoy and Bon Appétit! read more
