    The place - VN

Our first night's dinner in Buenos Aires was at El Mirasol as my spouse dined here on a prior visit. ATMOSPHERE: They're located in a "restaurant row" of about 8 eateries along an off ramp underneath the Pres. Arturo Illia freeway, fronting the Four Seasons hotel. What a genius idea, but the parking must be a nightmare. Luckily we were at the Four Seasons and walked over. Seating is spread out on two levels. The later you dine the busier it gets unlike in the USA. MENU: Meats, organs, sides, cheeses, salads, empanadas, desserts. BEVERAGE: Quilmes Negra - $5.50. The local Argentine brew was smooth with a mild flavor. FOOD: House Bread Balls - The two meatball-looking balls of bread were pretty moist and tasty though no butter was given. Caesar Salad - We were having trouble finding a decent caesar while in Rio, but these guys made one that was almost traditional. The portion is good for two to share. Ground Beef Empanada - $3.50 each. My search for delish empanadas has finally ended. Too bad I live 7,000 miles away! Of the eight different fillings you can get, good ol' ground beef was my go-to. The filling was savory with a small amount of gravy for moisture. The crust was light, flaky and buttery good. Highly recommended! Ham & Cheese Empanada - $3.50 each. I love the combo but not in an empanada. The cheese wasn't as gooey as I'd like and the flavor was very mild. Chimichurri and spicy pepper sauces were available as condiments for the empanadas. Tenderloin in Mushroom Gravy - The meat in Buenos Aires simply can't be beat! Absolutely tender and even tastier due to the dark brown gravy that pooled the plate. A handful of fried potato balls topped the dish, though the menu doesn't state it. French Fries - We were expecting a small to medium portion, but what came to the table was the size of Mt. Everest. The shoestrings were crispy but were such a waste as the two of us would never be able to eat that much. Definitely enough for 6 to share. SERVICE: Our male server was an older gentlemen who was professional and friendly. After dinner we were both presented with a cloth chart picturing a cow and the different cuts of meat. We returned on our last night in BA to have some beer and one last empanada. Even though the place was empty at 7pm, they sat us upstairs for some reason. We had the same server again. OVERALL: Amazing empanadas, great steaks, open late.

Great Malbec wine. Difficult to find in US although worth the search.

Excellent restaurant serving a wide selection of food at reasonable pricing. With limited spanish ability, there was no barrier to understanding the menu or waitstaff due to the menus printed in English and the waitstaff ability to speak some english. The service was top tier and the food was exceptional. I had never tried Argentina Beef, when the waiter recommended a top sirloin I hesitated and then went with his recommendation. The beef tasted like a filet- was tender with minimal fat - and was accompanied by green beans which were also excellent. Also on recommendation of the waiter, we ordered a bottle of Alpasion malbec wine which paired amazingly with the steak. The US exchange rate is excellent in Argentina which afforded an upscale meal of cocktails, appetizers, salad, entrees, dessert and a bottle of wine for only 120.00 USD which included a nice tip. Most importantly this was for 2 people. We were both so impressed with this restaurant we decided to eat there again on our way to the airport on the last night and had the same experience. It is definitely on our go to list for our next trip to Buenos Aires.

Delicious food, great atmosphere and excellent service. My husband had a ribeye steak that was very tender and cooked just right. Daughter had caprese salad that was too big to finish. I had chicken with mushroom sauce and a side of steamed veggies. We finished it off with a chocolate ice cream ball dipped in chocolate. Can't wait to go back.

    Empanadas appetizers were good.

We went here for an early dinner (6:30pm), by Argentina standards. There were very few guests. The food we got was quite good and very filling. Two of us shared an appetizer and also shared the entree which was a meat dinner. Lots and lots of food. The reason for the 3 stars, not 4, is due to the meat being extremely tough! The meat was supposed to be tender, the most tender they had. However, it was far from tender by US standards. Very chewy and lots of gristle. The other reason for the less stars is that our waiter, who was so great in the beginning of the meal, just disappeared! We don't know where he went and had to retrieve the help of the cashier to get a check. The dirty dishes were not cleared, the wine wasn't poured and we were confused as to where everyone went.

It's all that and more. All that being high quality large selection of beef similar to La Cabrera but not as large as La Brigada. And more: High quality upscale atmosphere Located in great area Professional English speaking servers Extensive Argentinian wine list And cost, yes cost. This is not a cramped shuffle em in shuffle em out kinda place. Great food, great location and great atmosphere. Yes you have to pay a little more. What are you waiting for?

I was in town for the weekend and wanted to have steak. My friend recommended this restaurants, so I decided to come here. I arrived here around 12:40pm, the restaurant wasn't busy at all. I was greeted and seated immediately. I asked for recommendation and ordered bife. The server brought me breads and fried stuff (I wasn't sure what I was but it was good). I waited about 15 minutes to get my food. My beef was cooked perfectly and very tender. It was big, but it wasn't heavy at all. High quality meat. The staff was nice, and the service was good. The portion was large, and the price was reasonable (compared to the US). People kept coming in and got packed by the time I finished my meal. I would come back here when I'm in town.

The portions here are massive. And that's coming from someone who can usually put away a pretty serious steak. Here, though It's a lot even for me. Was it good Absolutely. But a little heads-up if you're visiting: learn how Argentinians order their meat. If you ask for jugoso, it'll land somewhere between rare and medium rare. Al punto is closer to medium, sometimes even leaning toward medium well depending on the kitchen. And well done. Honestly... don't even think about it. Another tip: don't rush to order sides. Unless you're just getting a salad or you're sharing with more than two people, one plate is usually more than enough. Around here, they believe in feeding you properly and they definitely deliver.

While this place has been here since 1962, the first time I came was in 1993. I love it here because it is a classic, old-school restaurant, between the decor, the waiters and the grill as you walk in. The service has gone downhill a bit over the last couple of years, but I find that if you connect with your waiter when you finally get him to your table, he will check on you more often. They have a great wine list as well. The steaks are some of the best I have had, and I love that they bring your steak on a steel plate over a charcoal fire- do not let them take the grill- I love putting the fat on there to render away and then ladle it over my steak- so much better than butter! The fries are to die for, as is the Morcilla- so good and creamy- if you like that! I am usually too full for dessert, but I recently had their ice cream- so good and creamy!

We came here so my husband could try the steak so tender, it's ceremoniously cut with a spoon. I'm not a big time meat eater, so I had the provolneta (too salty and charred) and some pasta with tomato sauce. The food was okay, but the prices were ridiculous. We skipped desert, partly because the prices on the deserts were more than some of the entrees. A big red flag. One of the things we did not appreciate was this awkward moment when it seemed like they were trying to give us alcohol we didn't order. Neither my husband or I drinks, so we had to explain that we didn't want it. The spaghetti I ordered was bare bones pasta with tomato sauce. I was really expecting a more elevated dish for the prices we paid. My husband said his steak was good, but definitely not worth the hype this place has. While the soccer memorabilia was fun to look at, the weirdness of the meal and this constant feeling that we were going to be charged for things we didn't want or the surreptitious way the desert was more expensive than some entrees really kept us on our guard. I would steer clear of this place. We had many enjoyable and wonderful dining experiences in BA and this one was a total outlier. Not worth the stress for sure.
