I was told a lot of good things about this place from my friend who brought me here. Place was cool, I guess it's a local chain to El Paso. There were lots of locations so we just went to the closest one. Rice was good, corn tortillas were good and came in a square shape which was unique and I regret not getting a picture. I loved the charro beans, they have sausage, chicharron, and peppers in them. So good. The chicken ultimately was the star of the show. The marinade had a citrus flavor which was great. Would definitely eat here again. Jalapenos were very hot! Service was great, mostly young staff members but they kept the place clean and running smooth. Clean food- whew. I think of "eating clean" I think of Don Carbon. The chicken is sauce free and mesquite grilled to juicy perfection they have different seasoning rubs and lemon pepper is delicious but the plain chicken is my favorite. I love that I can get a nice sized portion of steamed mixed veggies without butter or heavy salt. Their Fit Bowls are ideal for anyone on the go, not just athletes. Mine had lots of great steak strips that had the nice mesquite flavor on top of veggies and some quinoa. They have dine in, drive up and delivery options. read more

I ordered 2 steak fajitas to go. Got a seat facing the kitchen area while I waited. Watched the employee take a couple of plastic containers and put them in the microwave. It was my steak for the fajitas. He then proceeded to transfer this to another container, throw 4 small slivers of onions, 2 sprigs of celantro and 2 jalepenos into the dish. We loved this casual dining spot. The marinated mesquite grilled chicken was delicious. The macaroni salad was fresh. Everything was yummy. Staff were terrific. Prices were reasonable. Don Carbón was founded in El Paso in 2013 by a Mexican family from Juarez. Since the franchise has expanded and we have several Don Carbon in El Paso. They are known for their grilled chicken cooked on a large charcoal mesquite grill. This Don Carbon is often super packed with construction workers at noon. Their mesquite grilled chicken, macaroni and charro beans combo is really solid and offers a great value. I really love their charro beans and macaroni as side dishes super tasty and authentic. I have always had a great experience at this restaurant. Since I live in the area, we often dine in. Today, we had a big family reunion, and I ordered two family meals for $110. I also tipped the staff. I requested 12 disposable plates, but the person who assisted me said she couldn't provide that many. When I asked how many she could give me, she said I could have seven. Don Carbón is my go to jam in El Paso. They have been providing me, my friends and my family with delicious charcoal grilled chickens for years and when Covid hit, I became concerned. I had been consistently asking if they were going to reopen their dining areas anytime soon and finally today I was able to go inside! They kept insisting they wanted to make sure it was safe to reopen! I had never been to the Upper Valley location because it's so far off the beaten path for me, but I was impressed with the way they were running it. First. The sanitation tunnel to enter. Kinda wild, kinda awesome, new experience for me. You walk through what I can only assume is misters containing sanitizing agent. Impressive. On top of that, everyone was masked up, temperatures were checked, constant wiping and sanitizing. Color me impressed. My only disappointment is that it's probably going to be hard to find a table as they continue to spread the word about their reopening. Love this place. I came in 15 minutes before they closed I order the 3 piece chicken with macaroni salad and the baked potato. I also order the tres leche cake . The chicken was delicious, fresh and warm . However the baked potatoes I got was old it had blacked spots and it tasted disgusting. It had melted cheese on top but it more like government cheese. I tossed the bake potato out . I had the chicken again after 2 days and for some reason it more more delicious, it tasted like it had a bit of lemon on it but I didn't taste when i first took a bite from it . Holy crap lousy lunch batman! So i can give them this much.... Their chicken is probably the only thing worthy of eating here. Unless you like pie and flan, then theres a lil extra. He ordered the beef fajita and i got the 2 chicken plate. Saddest beef fajita plate to ever exist. Everything, down to the grilled onions on top of the beef were COLD. His came out first and my order came soon after but only by a minute or 2. My fries were signifcantly warmer than his, therefore either they made his order in error previously and just let it sit there,or they prepared his really fast and still had to grill up my chicken, so they waited it out until mine was done. Seriously poor execution. And the beef itself? It barely had any flavor, let alone seasoning to it. Our waitress asked if there was anything else she can get us and i was ready to ask for a refund on that beef fajita. But i figured i take a loss on this and just never come back. I was certainly not about to send back a plate and get spit in it or god knows what. Mac salad tasted like they just threw a bunch of mayo together with the macaroni and other random crap like corn, ham, and peas. It was the blandest mac salad to ever exist. However, we were missing the salsas, onions and trimmings that come with this "all inclusive" combo. To top it off both tortilla orders were cold and hard, barely warmed up. (I live 5 mins away). The service is questionable, the server of the table next to me just reached in and took the salt off my table to give to them. Chicken is very good, but not the orgasmic experience some reviews make it out to be. "Beans" are actually a bean soup, instead of the expected whole or refried pintos. Quite good as long as you are OK with chunks of pork skin in it. Then there's the rice... Parboiled! Shameful for any restaurant, especially a Mexican one. I love their food don't get me wrong, the chicken is AMAZING!!! THE reason why I only give them 3 stars is for their lack of customer service, the cashiers and sometimes the servers have an awful attitude. I've encountered some staff with good attitude but only occassionally. Plus the service is SLOWER than a turtle with arthritis!!!!
