So I arrive to try this place I been wanting to try... and on the menu it says you get one basket of chips and salsa free... but more can be had for a charge. Well I'm alone so I think I'm good.. first impression? The place is lovely and magical. Like you have stepped into a tearoom somewhere. Not a Mexican restaurant. All wood tables. Round, square. Rectangle. And all wood chairs with high backs, all with different designs cut into them and all painted in bright vivid different colors. Little teacups and saucers on each table hold the sweeteners for your tea. Or coffee. And tea sets and china dishes decorate the place. So the chips and salsa: Very THICK triangle tortilla chips. A hard CRUNCH to them.. unsalted. The salsa.. very very bland.. it just tastes like tomato sauce puréed super smooth from a can... it had no bite whatsoever... no pepper. No spice... just very tomato sauce flavor forward.. it needs some help. So I ordered a combo plate.. with one red cheese enchilada, and I have been told the green chile chicken enchiladas here are amazing so I got one of those and it also came with two tacos. I asked for crunchy ones of those ... I was going to get what on their menu sounded like a delicious chicken and potato soup but they were out... so hopefully another time. My plate came and it was beautiful, like a work of art...the tacos were of the same hard crunchy tortillas the chips were. OMG I have been LOOKING for some REAL crunchy tacos in this town and I just found them!! The shells were half full of seasoned ground beef, off to the side of the tacos was shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and a huge dollop of sour cream ... so you had to build the tacos your self .. which I did. I wish that salsa had some kick to it cus I like salsa on my tacos too but I skipped that tomato sauce. The tacos were delicious, a surprise I wasn't expecting when I walked in here. Now the chicken enchilada: it was good, lots of tender chicken inside but the sauce on top is what makes it ... the rice with This plate is not Spanish or Mexican rice. It is a chicken flavored slightly yellow rice.. it's SOO salty.. on its own it's too salty, way too salty... but a bite of that rice with the green chile chicken enchiladas, now FHAT was heaven.. the sauce helps to tone down that over saltiness a bit of that rice and it all mixes together for the perfect bite.. my friends the rumors are true, the green chile chicken enchiladas and rice is amazing here. As for the Charo beans. They were ok. I think they needed a little longer cook... beans were still a little too firm. And the red chile cheese enchilada.. my enchilada was full of and covered with stringy cheese which I appreciate.. but the red sauce??? Well let's just say', it had the spice the salsa needs!! Whew! For me it was too spicy.. I pulled my enchilada out and ate it but left most of that sauce on the plate lol! So I will be back for the TACOS for sure, and if I have a craving for Green Chile Chicken or maybe Cheese enchiladas! It's only open for lunch 11-3 most days of the week ... so check the days.. to be sure you go on a day they are open. read more

What a fabulous gem! Stopped in for a late lunch, and would absolutely recommend and return if I am in the area. This is in a small shopping center near Dollar Tree, facing Lee Trevino. Colorful wooden tables and chairs throughout this on theme decorated restaurant. Seat yourself and be greeted with chips and salsa and a cup of creamy Mexican soup. Food is freshly made, and not greasy (a personal pet peeve). I ordered the green enchiladas with chicken and cheese mix. Beans and rice taste fresh and homemade. Soda, tea, and lemonade are best bets for drinks. I don't see beer or wine in the menu. Atmosphere and staff are friendly. read more

This place gets busy for lunch but they do have plenty of seating. I had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce- it was fantastic- the chicken filling was cooked perfect and there was plenty of it. The green sauce had a little kick but this gringa was able to handle it. There were interesting things to look at everywhere- the art work on the walls was culturally beautiful. I have been wanting to try these soupy tacos for a while now and finally found the time to head over. The place is smallish but comfortable and we were able to sit right away. They close at 3pm right now because of staff shortage according to the sign in front. I have to say, whatever they do to1 the tostada chips...omg keep doing it! Crunchy isn't crunchy enough of a word! I opted for the creamy soupy tacos and the spouse did the original soupy tacos. I loved mine. They were very flavorful and the "soup" was yummy by itself. Spouse liked his too but made the mistake of tasting mine and that ruined it for him! We'll be back to try the red enchiladas soon. read more

I had a craving for rolled tacos and had been trying to visit mamas for some time but was never successful. I'm so glad I finally got to try this place!!! Rolled tacos were so good! I ordered the green soupy tacos with brisket. You get the option of chicken or brisket and they have 3 sauces (red, green, chipotle). The sauce is absolutely perfect! A very cute, authentic Mexican restaurant. Chips and salsa perfect. I ordered the Spicy Entomatadas chicken enchiladas and requested no cheese. Unfortunately this Mexican restaurant does not serve Comida Corrida, but it more than made up for it by serving a small bowl of tortilla soup. The soup was loaded with hominy, corn and shredded chicken. It was delicious. The three enchiladas came with rice, frijoles de olla and lettuce and tomato. The red entomatada sauce was superb. Nothing like I have had to endure in other restaurants. A truly wonderful lunch. read more

Since the pandemic began, I've been ordering take-out from Mama's weekly. The food quality HAS NOT changed... still super tasty and delicious. They also package their take out food presentably and professionally. I ate at the restaurant when the shutdown was not in-effect during the pandemic, and it felt really clean. THE BEST HUEVOS RANCHEROS! The hatch chili can be spicy but the flavor is bursting! Their sides are divine! The potatoes with cheese and bacon!? Consistently delicious and NEVER disappointing. I have eaten here several times. Food is always delicious, especially the soupy tacos. The traditional Mexican decor is quite colorful and adds to much to the ambience. Prices are fair, and service is okay. However, in regards to take out orders and hours of operation, there is much to improve. For example, they now close at 3. p.m. That leaves the dinner crowd out. Wow. While driving through Texas, we thought it would be fun to try some Tex-Mex cooking. I'm so glad we stopped here. My husband and I ordered the special which was avocado and cilantro enchiladas covered in a red sauce with steak. The plate included chicken soup and rice and beans, with a side of lettuce, tomato and sour cream. The food was fresh, not greasy, and very flavorful. The steak sauce had a bite to it, but nothing too hot for this white girl's palate. The beans could have been pinto or pink, but were delicious - same as the rice. The seasonings were slightly different from Cali-Mex, but spot on. I wish I could name them, but my taste buds aren't that educated! The service was prompt and friendly even after more customers started coming in. All in all, a very enjoyable experience. I had heard the food was amazing unfortunately it was so so nothing spectacular. I had the carne asada fires and for 12.99 was not impressed at all. The drinks are bottle not the glass bottle cokes which would be worth the price but the small plastic cokes you get from a vending machine. Service was horrible we went around 2:00pm and it seemed they were eager for us to eat and leave our waiter got our orders wrong and did not come back to check on us instead he left without saying anything. The best Mexican food in town by far! Everything is homemade and made fresh daily. My favorite meals are: the green chicken enchiladas and the regular beef soupy tacos. They serve the best homemade soup with lunch during the week, but be sure to get there early before the soup is gone. Mama's serves breakfast on Saturday and Sunday only. The veggie omelet with spinach, onions and red peppers is to die for and the Santa Fe with chicken is delicious. I don't usually eat potatoes or hash browns for breakfast but Mama's potatoes have bacon, cheese and green chili's mixed together and it's a creamy delight. I don't know what they do to their chips but they are the best in town-no store bought chips here. Another bonus is Mama's is family owned by a very nice family and mama actual does the cooking! read more

I really liked their Creamy Soupy Tacos because the sauce is very flavorful. The Original Soupy Tacos were good too but not as good as the Creamy sauce, imo.
