The service was terrible. We waited 40 minutes for tacos that weren't even good. Don't waste your time.

I'm not sure if ownership or management changed or has been passed down, but the quality not only in service but staff seems to have declined. There was a difficult language barrier while speaking on the phone as it was strictly spanish. Not only that, but staff seems to be very negligent and distracted while on duty having their backs turned seemingly doing nothing as it was not busy. I could not understand/hear what they were saying behind the counter, they need to speak up. They were very unfriendly and raised their voice at me. Pt2/update; I was debating whether or not to post the last review as i have gone to Rojos for a long time standing and as far as i knew them it had been a respectable and very friendly business. I've had a little bit of everything on their menu and today i settled for a Quesadilla Al Pastor as it has always been one of my favorites or had been. For starters the meat was very smell and oily and i thought it was Choriza, not pork. Not only did it lack the correct meat it also lacked pineapple i could not find many pineapple pieces and it looked like onions. I called back to try and make sense of the confusion and the lady was very hostile and aggressive she raised her voice at me and did not offer any type of solution or apology for the whatever mistake had happened, she assured me it was pastor although it was appeared NOT to be. I understand it is the end of the day and the only other reason i could see the meat could be this minute and mutilated was if only it had been the leftovers from the day. Again, i understand the day is coming to an end but if the staff or cooks see that the chosen food is running low, id rather them be transparent about it than give me garbage leftovers from the bottom of the bin. At the very end of the day it brings me a lot of shame to have to post this about what i once believed to be a hidden gem in OC i hope they hire friendlier and more competent staff, the customer is ALMOST always right. read more

Really solid hole in the wall Mexican joint. Walked in with a group of 9 on a Friday for lunch and had our food in under 20 mins. Portion sizes are big, quality of food is superb, plenty of seating. Will be back next time we are in town! read more

Went here for my first time in the 2022 season and it did not disappoint! The place was swamped as usual but the owner has a great system to try to keep as many customers happy as possible. Instead of rushing orders out, I appreciate that he takes the time to make each order correctly and the best they can be. I got the steak burrito and my mom got a chicken burrito (we both get sour cream on the side). They come with chips and salsa on the side. Happy to say that, that these are still the best burritos I have ever had. Check this place out, but try to give yourself time because he gets so busy. read more

We ordered five tacos: chicken, beef tongue, and fish; and a 1 lb. chicken burrito. Everything was authentic and excellent. Salsas were fresh. Chips included. My wife wanted to come back here the next day. There is limited outdoor seating (covered) so get here early. read more

Tacos were great. I had the steak taco traditional style and 1 beef taco American style. Also had the mexican rice. Tacos were flavorful and meaty with a great salsa and the rice was awesome and fluffy. Everything tasted great. Service was fast and efficient. Just bring cash or use the ATM inside. Hands-down the best Mexican food I've had in my time. Even though their menu has been pared down from what it one was, the staples on the current menu still do not disappoint. They also care about their regulars. I've been ordering from Rojo's's for 20+ years, and Joe not only remembers my name, but he asks about my mom, and he remembers my go-to orders. He's even recognized my voice on the phone! The ambience is also amazing--nothing fancy, but they are true to who they are, featuring colorful walls, a mural with a man surfing on a taco, and Mexican music always playing through the speakers. read more

Called for take out Saturday after Labor Day for lunch. It was crazy busy. Ordered one burrito and nachos which came to $23. On the bright side it was a ton of food. On the downside the food wasn't good. Most of the ingredients tasted like it comes out of a can. Evidence of that was the large cans of ingredients behind the counter. I was taken back a bit to find sliced carrots on the nachos (not lower right hand corner of pic). The steak burrito was just meh. I would rate Qdoba higher which is a baseline for Tex Mex. There are better options to eat in this town. I know the shore commands a premium price on food but was expecting it to be good. read more

Our favorite OCNJ area Mexican spot! They're tacos are flavorful and fresh, and they offer vegetarian options! I do either the veggie tacos or the veggie wrap. FYI they are cash only and sometimes have weird hours, and they are closed during the off season! Overall, it's a great local spot and always a tasty meal. read more

We stopped here on a Saturday afternoon before heading to the boardwalk. A few tables outside and inside. I ordered the Baja Fish Taco which came with chips and salsa. We paid at the counter and waited at a table outside. The taco was excellent. However, listening to the owner's/manager's kids ride back and forth on their scooters for the full time I was there was not excellent. Thus, four stars instead of five. I would have thought they were just random kids, however a man from inside the store came out and told them to be careful riding. read more

We love this place for takeout in OC. Heads up though, anytime we've called recently for pickup, the line was busy. When we went to the restaurant to simply order there and wait, it didn't seem that busy, but alas. Wide array of options - my go to is the battered fish taco. My mom loves the taco salad with grilled chicken. Portions are huge and you can easily get two meals out of one entree. Chips and guac are also a must! We were disappointed tonight when there was no guac left (but they still put avocado in my brother's burrito? I read some reviews and decided to try this place. The food is very disappointing if you ever had authentic Mexican food. The only food that I could compare this is Taco Bell, and Taco Bell wins by far. This is not real Mexican food. The tortillas taste like cheap flour store bought. The meat flavor is what you would expect at Taco Bell (which is not real Mexican). If you want to try authentic Mexican tacos this is not the place. But if you think Taco Bell is the shizzle then stop by this place and pay way more for less the quantity and quality. The only good thing is they had Lime Jarritos. read more

I don't think 5 stars is enough to describe how much I love this place. I was living in the area for 6 months and I was in here all the time. When I ordered my last takeout before moving, one of the ladies drew a smiley face on my to go box. LOL Everything here is amazing from the shrimp tacos (the green sauce is addictive), the chicken sopes, burrito bowls minus the tortilla, and the chicken tinga quesadilla inside a large corn tortilla. I can't eat gluten and they were always more than willing to modify my order. The portions are huge and everything comes with chips and a small salsa. They have a some tables inside and 4 large picnic tables outside. But, a to go orders are just as good as eating at the restaurant. You would think Joe paid me to write this but no, I just really love this place. Do yourself a favor and go! read more

This is my favorite place to eat in OCNJ when we visit each year. They're very accommodating to my family since we eat only vegan food. My only suggestion would be for them to carry Daiya cheese, Tofutti sour cream, and Gardein Be'f crumbles or some other vegan cheese and plant-based meat. It would significantly increase the vegan options. The cheese and plant-based protein can be frozen until use, so there would be little waste. More vegans will come if you offer more vegan options and advertise them. "If you build it, he will come." read more

After seeing 4 stars out of 5, we thought we'd give it a shot. Absolute mistake. The number 1 gripe, and alarmingly so, is the amount of WASTE this place generates in styrofoam usage. Everything is served on it. EVERYTHING. It completely goes against the 'stop ocean pollution' poster in the window. I ordered the Mahi Mahi fish tacos which were average at best. Usual serving is 3 tacos... I received 2, with additional tortillas to fill out the plate. Thanks. My girlfriend ordered the Nachos. There was no accommodation to her pepper allergy.. no asking if she'd like lettuce and tomatoes added. Fair enough, especially since the price got knocked down for it. HOWEVER, it was served with bulk nacho cheese, which is 99% comprised of butter. The actual shredded cheese was kept to a minimum. Big mistake if you are marketing your place as serving authentic Mexican. See the attached picture for epic fail. Don't eat here. The place is a waste generating fire hazard. read more

I guess I see the appeal for this place but to me it comes across as far too expensive while the food is very, very bland and the menu is also misleading. Called them for a take out order two Wednesdays ago and that part while a bit chaotic due to the noise on their end was fine and they told me that everything would be up in twenty minutes. So far, so good. Of course the one caveat in season is that parking is a real SOB if you're going to try to go and pick up an order. But eventually I got a space and went inside. Every table outside is full and inside they are backed up with walk in orders around six or seven deep. I get to the counter and they tell me that my order wasn't done because there's a problem. Apparently while they do have a menu on their website, it's irrelevant as they have discontinued kids meals which of course is not reflected on that menu. When I called the girl who took my order didn't mention this but now at the counter I'm told the kid's mini cheese quesadilla no longer is an option and if want a quesadilla it has to be a larger adult portion for an additional charge. Ditto that for the burrito and the chicken fingers were never a kids option anyway, they're just a carryover from their apps. She said they were aware that the online menu reflected none of this but that "they didn't have the time to fix it". So after that I had to figure out a new plan plus wait an additional fifteen minutes for everything to be done. #Super Nachos - Probably the best thing that was ordered. Lots of chips, lots of chicken and generous amounts of cheese, pico and guac. Two issues with this would be that the chicken by itself was very bland and even though I asked for no jalapeno peppers, naturally they were also generously applied. #Melted Cheese - I ordered two additional at fifty cents each sides of this and it never hit the bag. #Ground Beef Tacos - The difference between this and Taco Bell is what aside of this place charging twice as much? #Quesadilla - Nothing wrong with it per se but for what is there the price is a total rip. #Chalupas - The flavor was alright but the price tag of two for $7.50 is again a rip considering what is actually being served. Between the chicken that was bland as hell across the board to the online menu being wrong to not including the sides I ordered to messing up my order in the first place I really would find it hard to want to come back here let alone the prices which I suppose I'll just chalk up to being "island prices" because there is nothing going on here that can't be done at home for a fraction on the price and at least then the order would be right and the meat would have some type of seasoning/sauce/spice/flavor to it. Never had anything but a great experience at Rojo's! This is probably not the best Mexican you will have in your life, but it is definitely some of the best you'll have at the Jersey Shore. Huge fan of the tacos, the service, and the prices. The owner and all of the workers are so friendly and kind, and will quickly serve up a filling meal. Their food is always so fresh and delicious! Really great food. Worst customer service in the world, honestly. EVERYTIME you call this place they will NEVER answer. It's like they don't even want to make food or make money. I just now walked into the place 20 minutes before they close, and I was told they were no longer taking orders. Absolutely ridiculous, because I tried calling for 30 minutes, but they just wouldn't answer. So, I left the beach and drove over-20 minutes before close- and I was turned away. It's sucks because I know they have good food, but they genuinely have such a horrible system. Disappointing. I can't even imagine how much money this place would make if they actually answered their phone maybe once or didn't turn away customers for no good reason. Oh ALSO, the person in front of me got to order, but I did not. They walked into the store maybe 30 seconds before I did. PLEASE DO NOT GET FOOD FROM THIS PLACE. NO ONE should have to try to call a resturant for 30 minutes and then get turned away 20 minutes before close. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SERVE FOOD UNTIL 7:00pm then CLOSE AT 6:40.
