What an amazing family owned restaurant. They have the best street tacos by far! The staff is very fast and super friendly. It's a small place and very authentic and the prices can't be beat. The parking lot was almost completely full when I arrived at Don Juan's Mexican restaurant. I took what was probably the last parking spot and went inside. I expected to find a packed restaurant, but only seven of the 17 tables were occupied. However, five of the 10 remaining tables were uncleared after the dinner rush. While the restaurant appears to be a family-run place (there were two very young boys wandering around and trying to help out), the dining room was clearly understaffed. However, the woman at the register was very helpful and friendly. I ordered three tacos de buche and a horchata to go. I was offered red or green salsa and chose green. When I finally took my food out of the bag, I found that my tacos were beautifully composed on a plate with a couple of slices of radish, a slice of pickled jalapeño and a wedge of lime, and neatly covered with foil. The tacos were constructed with small, double corn tortillas, diced fresh onion and a touch of cilantro. As expected with buche, they were tasty delicious. The horchata appeared to be homemade with visible specks of spices floating on top of it. While it wasn't overly sweet, it had more milk in it than I prefer. However, it was okay. While I wouldn't take my in-laws to dine in at Don Juan's, I would definitely return to take out more of their street tacos. I highly recommend the buche. read more

The worse part is reading the 1 star reviews replies from owners. instead of apologizing for such horrible service n hoping customers come back n give them another chance, they fight back n deny any wrong doing from the waitress. Many customers have complain about that same waitress n owner keeps defending her Saying customers are lying. Therefore, they get banned from the place. Got a recommendation from a "local" to try Don Juan's and the Yelp rating was a good sign. From the outside it doesn't look great. The inside is clean but quite dated. Still, I'm here for the food. Service was friendly and made some suggestions what to order. So I went with their sincronizada combo. Kind of a quesadilla/taco in a flour tortilla and lots of cheese. Quite good. Beans and rice were "home cooked " and not too Americanized. Chips and salsa with guacamole was good and their red and green sauce were good. Will come back. read more

My last review of this place was 3 years ago and I still love coming to this place...the food is good, the prices are right and the service was great; server was attentive and asked several times if we were satisfied with our orders....the ambiance is no different than any other Mexican place. just know afternoons start about 4 pm on, especially Tuesday and Thursday this place is insane crazy. it's one of the best Mexican restaurants in town. the staff is super nice , in the craziness. food is made fresh when you order , so yea, it takes a few. the menu has something for everyone, and if they get it wrong, let them know they are happy to fix it. Not a fan. We went here with family when visiting in Idaho and were excited due to the great reviews. However, the food was honestly terrible. The chips were stale and the salsa tasted like store bought salsa. Every item on the menu doesn't even have a description of what it is. I ended up ordering the shrimp Monterrey not even know what it was. Turns out its shrimp wrapped bacon in this interesting sauce. Was it the worst food ive eaten? No. But it was definitely not good. It was so overcooked that the bacon was hard as a rock and the shrimp was chewy. The sauce as good and it wasn't overly spicy. Great food for an amazing price. You get three street tacos with beans and rice for five bucks. Not bad at all. And three dollar beers. The only Mexican restaurant I can find Al pastor. And the beans and rice are delicious. If the beans and rice are on point you know everything else will be too!! Service is good too. I like how you go up and pay your bill and don't have to wait around for a check. Just go when you're ready. My one complaint is their margaritas are pre mixed. SURPRISINGLY it is bright and airy inside. For some reason I thought it would be dark inside. The menu looks awesome, and seriously the prices can't be beat. I ordered Asada, Pastor & Chicken. It did take a hot second to get our food. About 20 minutes, but it was a fun lunch so we didn't care too much. The food was good. The place was clean. But the service was horrible. The waitress was very dismissing and inattentive. She took our order and never saw her again. Someone else brought our food out and refilled our drinks. After a while our waitress walked by our table and asked if we were doing ok but didn't stop to hear an answer and didn't even look at us when she was asking the question. She was looking across the room. I finally got up and refilled my husbands and sons drinks and my daughter got our to go boxes. We ordered guacamole as an appetizer and that came with our food an HOUR after ordering. Most tables sat around with no food. Multiple people were asking where their food was. The tables around us didn't get cleaned for the entire hour and a half we were there. They just sat there dirty all around us; which our table wasn't even clean when we "sat ourselves" at this place. On a long road trip from California to Montana, we had an overnight stop in Twin Falls. Midway through Nevada I started looking for dinner options. Saw the reviews for Don Juan's and it sounded low key but with good food. Upon arrival, got "to go" food to take to the hotel. Goodness, this was unexpected. This food was Excellent! Husband got a steak super burrito, and I got Camarones a La Diabla and Tostada de Ceviche, both shrimp dishes. Each dish was truly delicious. The spicy shrimp was served with homemade corn tortillas, rice, beans, lettuce and sour cream. The sauce was one of the best I've had anywhere, and we have good Mexican food where I live. The ceviche was very flavorful, with fresh, juicy shrimp, zero fishy flavor. They packaged the crisp corn tostadas separately so I got that great crunch along with those fresh shrimp, tomatoes, onion and avocado. Holy smokes, flavor explosion! The little tubs of green and red sauce for the tostada were quite different and spicy, I kept switching between the two options with every bite. My husband isn't very descriptive about food, but he declared his steak burrito "really good." My dishes were exceptional, this will be my go to spot whenever I'm traveling this route, yum! read more

I had the misfortune to read "Roy M's" one star review, and all I can say is that not only is he an idiot in the highest degree, but he's wrong about Don Juan's. I've lived in Idaho for about ten years as a "food snob" from Seattle, and this is one of my favorite places to eat in my new home. I have been back several times since I tried this place 2 years ago. My original assessment of the food still holds. It is well done and authentic. All of the meats are good in the tacos and burritos. The lengua is tender and a good choice for any of the dishes where you choose the meat. If you are less adventurous, the fish, chicken, beef and pork are good too. There are at least three shrimp dishes that are also very good for dinner or a larger lunch. I usually go a little before or after the main dining hour. The service is very good when they are not too busy. There is not enough staff when they get swamped. Like any popular restaurant, when they get busy, you will wait. Do yourself a favor and go an hour or so before or after the time everyone else is trying to get in. The drink menu has the standard selection of soft drinks, coffee, and tea. They have 8-12 different types of beer as well. They make their own tortillas and chips. There are a couple of other authentic places in TF that do the same. All of them are good, but these stand out. The tortillas and chips rate very well against good places in Texas, Arizona, and Southern California. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. If you have to have vegan, organic, raw, etc, etc, there isn't much on the menu. They will do their best to make it work, but you should stick to the grass and sprout emporiums in San Francisco or Los Angeles. read more
