The two stars are for poor service. We came asking for a reservation for the 3 months of advance. My aunt and I went and an employee said that we had to come the next day because for the date that we want, we would have to reserve the next day. That's all they said..."just come the next day". All that they said. So we came the next day and an hour before closing time because that's also what it says on the information pamphlet. We came the next day. They said that the shelter we wanted was already taken because it was "first come first serve"...we weren't given that information!!! We were never told that it was first COME FIRST SERVE. All they said was that "we can come tomorrow", if we were given that information then OF COURSR IT WOULD MAKE SENSE FOR US TO BE THERE EARLY. This type of information of "first come first serve" is important to give to individuals. If you know that shelter is popular. So I'm telling you this so it doesn't happen to other individuals...if you want a shelter, it's first come first serve. read more

This review is for the rental of one of the rooms in the community center. It was a basic room with access to a kitchen. Maybe 8 or 9 tables were set up. Nothing extravagant- just a room. Front desk was staffed by high school or younger college kids. They seemed less than enthused to be working there and gave the vibe that they would rather be somewhere else. When I went there and asked questions, they responded with a tone like I was inconveniencing them. A few things that I noticed with the room. Not enough tables - maybe that was the reservation but there were stacks of chairs in the corner. Not sure if they were meant to occupy space or if they were to be set up. We needed them and started setting them up ourselves. Nobody came to help. In fact, I don't remember seeing any staff member check in with the hosts. Maybe I just didn't see it, but if they came in, they would clearly see we needed more chairs out and possibly even tables. Maybe my expectations are too high for a community center pretty much run by kids. read more

While not my favorite park in the Lakewood/Cerritos area, it's a good solid park to go to, especially if you are an athlete, but since I am nowhere close to one, it's hard for me to make a case for driving there, especially with an abundance of other parks much closer to me. Cerritos Park East is located on the south side of 166th between Shoemaker and Carmenita on the east side of Cerritos. Since it's not too far from Buena Park, it could make for a nice getaway from Orange County if you ever want to cross the county border for a change in scenery. At this park, you'll find tennis, basketball, and racquetball courts as well as baseball fields and a track. I've also seen some pickup games of soccer and volleyball, usually on the outskirts of unused baseball fields. There are actually three parking lots for this park. The larger two are on the north side of the park, and there is a much smaller lot on Pires Ave. Each of the three baseball fields opens towards a lot, so whatever lot you're at, it's very possible, though highly unlikely, that a home run ball could strike your car. I usually like taking a walk around the tracks, either warning or the elliptical one adjacent to Whitney High School. And yes, I did intend to use multiple baseball terms in those last two sentences lol. I recall seeing a bench somewhere in the park that says one lap is a half mile, and so two laps would be a mile. However, it's not clear to me exactly what lap they are talking about. I'm guessing it's the loop around all three baseball fields, but I could be off. It's definitely not the elliptical track. There's nothing but grass inside the track, so there's really not much to see while you're walking or running on the track, hence why I find this part of the park kind of boring. If you run, stay on the inside of the flat track, but if you walk, stay on the outside. For whatever reason, the track feels rubbery to me, but is a great way to get your steps in if you find yourself getting bored of walking around the baseball fields. If you need to rest or just want to watch the walkers/runners on the track, there are bleachers by either straightaway. The track isn't that long. Even at a sluggish pace, it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to complete a lap. While it may feel pretty open to some, the park doesn't feel as open as my new favorite: Rynerson in Lakewood. If I'm in the area, I would stop by and stretch my legs there, and you should too, especially if you live closer than I do. However, it's not a park I'd personally go out of my way for if I want to take a walk. The other closer parks are good enough for me. read more

It's got four tennis courts, basketball courts and three high wall backstops for you to practice your tennis volleys or anything that you have that needs a high wall backstop. I have not been to CPE in years, and I forget how beautiful and clean this park truly is. They continue to rennovate the space, keeping it tidy and up-to-date. There is one main BBQ area (to the best of my knowledge) facing the street that we had to book months in advance. You also need to be a Cerritos resident. There are plenty of picnic table seating to accommodate large parties, and what makes it even better is that the entire area is sheltered. There are (2) BBQ grills and a water faucet conveniently next to it for easy washing of all your fruits, veggies, utensils, etc! The day we had our BBQ was perfect, it was a beaaaaautiful mid-August day with a nice breeze by the late afternoon. Everyone was pleased with both the space and the weather. We plan on continuing my dad's annual choir BBQ here. :) read more

They just recently re opened the play ground area during covid 19 times. I was lucky to bring my girls here for a quick trip on a Friday morning before anyone came with their kids. I really like the two soft padded play grounds and age appropriate swing sets. Their community park classes are also available at this location (May have changed with covid 19 this year). Sort of tucked in among a neighborhood, a commercial area, a high school, and an indoor swim facility is Cerritos Park. I'm not entirely sure what designates it as "East" on Yelp, but suffice to say this large-ish expanse of open area is rather nice. The central grassy athletic field area is surrounded by a half-mile walking path, dotted with trees, benches, picnic tables, and the like. Tennis courts, handball courts, a playground for the kiddies, and an all-weather jogging track (assuming a shared-use feature with the adjacent high school) make this a great park. The area is clean and quiet, despite the occasional motorcycle going by or jet flying overhead on final approach to LAX. Great place to walk your dog, get some steps in, or just relax under a shady tree. read more

All the parks in the city of Cerritos get a 5 star rating from me. This one is no exception. The park might not look like much from the outside, but it is huge once you park and enter. There is a toddler play area with swings, and a kids play area with swings. I use to come here on my way home to run their track just so I won't get stuck in traffic. Fine, the other reason was to hang out with a friend too. LoL. Anyhow, what a beautiful park in Cerritos! Nice large grass area, a rubber track, a strolling trail, tennis courts, softball diamond, a community recreational area, etc. It was awesome. The track was small. Approximately six laps per mile. It gets quite sunny and warm during the summer. I wish there were more trees planted around that surrounding area. At least we'll get a farmer's tan! LoL. I really enjoyed coming here. I plan to still go for a jog if given the opportunity. It sure beats the 605 freeway parking lot during rush hour traffic. Nice spacious park, it gets quite packed in the evenings. My nephew and his wife had their baby shower at the community center at Cerritos Park East. The nice seemed very nice with basketball courts and football courts as well. This review is strictly for the community center. I was one of the people who needed to set up in the room. I did the dessert table for the party. We arrived before my nephew but the front desk person did not let us in the room which then took away from the set up time. I didn't understand the reason for not letting us in when my nephew was literally on his way. This could have helped our set up time. Anyway, my cousin and I managed to set up the dessert table in time before the guests arrived. The room was big, it had a stage and a kitchen. The kitchen was nice as we kept a lot of our stuff in there. Oh, the other thing that I thought didn't make sense was that our family member was in charge to set up the photo booth. She brought her stand with tripods and it was secured. She also added balloons on the stand. The worker told us she couldn't use the stand unless the stand was completely covered with balloons! Huh, wth? That doesn't make any sense at all! She ended up pinning everything on the wall instead. Those two things did not make sense to me and those would be a deal breaker for me if I was looking to book this place. So beware if you plan to have a party here. The room was big and it accommodated all the guests. The bathroom was clean as well. Make sure to ask questions before booking. Otherwise, a nice big place for a party. read more

This used to be my playground. Growing up, I spent my entire summer at this park with my friends, playing football, basketball, or at the pool that served as a venue for the 1984 Olympics. Awesome Cerritos park and facility! There's a pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, a small running track and lots of green grass. There are also numerous picnic and play areas and they also have an indoor community center available for rental (for parties, ceremonies, etc.). A lot of community events are held here, from school performances, to city talent shows. Parking can be a little tough during busy times, but I've always been able to find a spot. I grew up in and around this park and these days I miss walking all round here, picnicking, and renting out the shelters for family birthdays and celebrations. The park's walking path circumference is about 1.5 miles so it's great for walking. If the park pavement isn't your thing, there's also a running/walking track in the green field area beside the tennis courts. The park also has a playground, basketball courts, baseball fields, restrooms inside the community center and near the baseball fields, and an Olympic swim center equipped with a side room gym. If you want to feel like you're in a big park but not as big as Regional come here and enjoy. read more

We just had a birthday party here for my son and reserved Shelter 1. You need to be a Cerritos resident to book a shelter. The shelter itself was huge (24 tables) and a perfect area to host a party while allowing some social distancing at the same time. The parking lot is large and right next to the shelter which was very convenient. The shelter is right next to the playground which was great for the kids. There's trees nearby where you can hang a piñata. The only reason I put 4 stars is because they are very very strict about parties. I think I had to read through like 6 or more pages about their Park Rules for parties. I paid $150 to rent the shelter for 6 hours, plus a $100 deposit. They don't allow any freestanding decor, no tape on anything, you can only choose between 2 jumper companies and you can only make changes to your contract in person and not over the phone (inconvenient). I was very anxious when planning the party because of the rules but honestly when the day came, everything turned out great and their walk through inspection after the party wasn't as grueling as I imagined it would be. Overall, our guests had a great time at this park and if I plan another birthday here I'd be a little less intimidated. read more

I love the staff here! Some genuinely skilled, professional, and a very kind team of employees run this place. Everyone of them work together to support each other and their youth activities as well as summer camps are just notably well organized. Ofcourse the most important factor is everyone is friendly to interact with and you really do appreciate them for their level of performance in working with the youth. This place also often has youth volunteer working too and they are closely trained and mentored by their staff. I have nothing but praise for the staff here. The park has a lot of amenities for the children to play including the water fountain that is often open for public use on a schedule. There is also a basketball court, and it shares a parking lot with the Olympic Pool. I always have a good experience when I come here. The only issue I have is the summer beetles that fly everywhere here. But that's only when it's the season. read more

I grew up and still live near this park. Beginning in 1984, my family and I used to come out here for the annual Fourth of July "Let Freedom Ring" celebration. It got a little too popular and crowded in recent years and was moved to the Cerritos Civic Center. I still come here to occasionally use the fitness center in the swim center, but more often than not, I use the new rubberized running track adjacent to the tennis courts. I believe it's slightly smaller than .25 miles around, so just be sure to make it 5 laps around to get one mile. It's a very popular add-on, especially with the surrounding homes, so you may come across a lot of people during peak hours before dusk. The park also has facilities that you can rent out for various parties or events, as well as picnic shelters for barbecue and outdoor activities. There is a community center, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, handball/racquetball courts, playground equipment, and tennis courts, all of which are always occupied when I'm there. Every so often they have boutiques sponsored by the city set up shop on the grounds, which adds to the overall experience, especially on holidays. The park is roughly more than half a mile in circumference (because there are signs that say if you jog the sidewalk around the park, 2 laps = 1 mile). I still consider Cerritos as the "Central Park" of Cerritos, as it still gets a fair share of foot traffic and recreational activities. It's a well-loved park, and it shows with the amount of visitors it gets daily. read more

Love being at this park. Living two streets away its a perfect getaway from being stuck indoors. We bring our skillet, make lunch here, walk on the paths, and enjoy being outside. But, there's a specific staff member that makes this so awkward. He likes to sit across from the women's bathroom, with the window wide open, and watch the women go in and out. Something really should be done about him. He's not watching for issues, because on multiple occasions we've seen men walk in there. He just sits at the desk, and will shift his body or even lift up to watch people walk into the bathrooms. It's very unnerving. read more

I grew up here too, like my other fellow reviewers. I swam for years, going from the lil' I forget...tadpoles to the barracudas....dolphins...and finally sharks (there's more in-between). I thought that was a cute idea to play by, though sharks scare me and I really want to swim with dolphins (any recommendations, people?). Anyhows, I also took diving classes here for a couple years, which was fun too. The pools are really nice and a bunch of schools come here for meets, etc. There's also rooms for aerobics and different types of dance. I'd sign up for some classes here if I were in the area, though it's just like what I took at UCI's gym for fun. What else? I remember taking tap and jazz dance...lol. Tennis is also fun here...it's almost always happenin' and popular, but that can be good to have sometimes too, right? It just sucks whenever you have to go around the flippin' courts to get the ball that went hella outta bounds. But yeah, there were definitely good workout/playing times in this area, especially with friends after school let out. This place has probably expanded and renovated to even bigger and better classes and recreational play. I ought to visit the place sometime, just to rekindle some more childhood memories. This a spacious park that brings back much of my childhood memories. When I was about 11 years old, I had an option of choosing between a violin or pick up a leisure sport as a recreational activity. Learning instruments takes time and money for lessons, so I decided to pick up tennis as a sport. I would have gladly picked up team sports, but I'm in it for the glory of a singles champ like Kobe Bryant! I still remembered taking tennis lessons every Tuesday and Thursday late afternoon in one of the four tennis courts located next to the baseball field. There were plenty of chances for me to Rollerblade around the park overlooking the huge grassy knolls, or the pathetic basketball courts with the little sandbox on the side. It's a cool deal with a community center on the side for game rooms for the youngsters. As I was being lousy at learning the backhand (I'm better at making the comments than the stroke), my mom saw a flier on the community center to learn ballroom dancing. Yeah right...like I would honestly do it. I took a good peek at a secluded room in the community center for that dancing class and I just didn't feel right in doing it. As a young 11 year old, you'll say no to anything. I would still come by to this park once in a while. It's great around the 4th of July where you can grab a seat in the park's nicely cut lawn grass to watch the fireworks. The parking is the worst around that time of the year. ...come to think of it. It would have been cool to impress the ladies with my violin skill. If only I have known back then. read more

Today I went to CPE to use their Olympic sized pools. They were adjusting the temperature and it was warmer than usual 85 degrees instead of 82 degrees so amazing. I really hope they can keep it at 85 degrees :) I wouldn't mind paying a bit more because it was so comfortable... Overall the facilities are great too! Great for walking your dog in the middle of the day as most of the park is empty. They have plenty of space to play sports and benches to hangout. The covered areas or "shelter" can accommodate parties of 20+ they have a good amount of seating, a sink, and an outlet to plug in electronics needed. The parking stalls located in the park can ran out and the best option is to park in the neighborhoods across the street. It is a clean and safe park and no trash laying around. read more

This park is one of the 3 big main parks in cerritos. It's less crowded than the other cerritos parks. The race track is up to date with some type of soft material. This one has an indoor swimming pool and a small gym for residents. What this park lacks is an outdoor exercise equipment. There are 3 parking lot entrances. One is at the front with the main building structure. That lot is closer for basketball, swimming pool, tennis courts, and the race tracks. When you pass the first entrance of the parking lot, a little further there's another entrance. That entrance is closer to kids playground, baseball, and those picnic tables. The 3rd entrance is hidden. It's located at the back of the park. You got to enter a neighborhood to get there and the lot is small. I guess 4 or 6 cars can fit. Beautiful park! I threw a baby shower here at one of the shelters. They have strict rules but strict rules are what keeps this park nice and kept. The staff there were sooo KIND!!! I rented from 12-6pm but when I first registered the shelter I asked them nummmmerouse times if i am allowed to come early (2-3 hrs early to set up) and decorate and they said I would be fine but as long as I register and start the party at my given bank time. When i arrived 2 hrs early and started to wipe down the tables and just set up linens, the staff said I couldn't and I must start at my bank time. I was expecting 200 ppl in 3 hrs and no way I would want to set up 1 hr prior! Thats why i had asked numerous times when I booked it and called a week in advance to confirm so it wouldn't be an issue. But of course , i was told im not to the day of the event. But the staff then allowed me to continue to set up. She was very KIND, wish I had caught her nane. I would recommend this park! Great parking and great play area for the kids. read more

I grew up going to this park as a child and I still come here occasionally to exercise. This is a great place. There are basketball courts, tennis courts, a kid's playground, a large field, a grill/shaded area with tables and seats (for birthdays, parties, etc.), a nice track, a recreation center, and a swim center (with a small weight room) all in the same place. The park is maintained beautifully and it is quite spacious. I used to come often for pick-up basketball. You'll have all sorts of competition here, ranging from beginners to very skilled. Players who come in the evenings can get quite competitive. It's a blast running fives or 3v3. read more

Cerritos Park East, aka. C.P.E., is my favorite park among the many parks in Cerritos. It is where I feel the safest and most at peace when it comes to wanting to take a walk in a park. I am not a fan of ducks or birds in general, so this place as opposed to the other duck infested parks (Heritage Park and Regional Park) is an ideal spot to enjoy and take in the scenery minus bird poop or obnoxious quacking. It is clean, well lit, and offers 3 parking lots. My favorite portion of this park is the track. I can walk or lightly jog (I am not much of a runner) and not feel intimidated by the other park patrons for my lack of athleticism. The trees provide sufficient shade along the walkway and at night, there are lamps to light the way. So if you are in the Cerritos area and want a place to walk around without the hassle of wildlife getting in your way (okay, I really mean the birds when I say this), then why don't you go far east, Cerritos Park East that is! read more

Large, spacious park, with wide and well maintained concrete walks for the entire perimeter. this is the site of many events, including sports events. Venue for swim meets - the Olympic swimming pool is open to public for a nominal fee, and is indoors. That's great for the summer months, but it can get crowded with school out. There are multiple tennis courts (need to make reservations), several picnic ares with grills and tables/benches under shady trees. The covered patio areas are available for use by reservation. There is also a community center with several rooms that can be configured for larger groups. Also a stage available. The hall has kitchen facilities. AV equipment also available for use. Basketball courts are open for use pretty much all day. There are doggie doody bags provided at a few places, but some days are empty - a lot of people come here with their canine friends , but dogs must be on leash. (I wish there was a dog park in Cerritos). Parking can be slightly difficult on the days that swim meets or other events are scheduled but this is on any other day, is easy. Parking often overflows out into the neighborhood on weekends. read more
