It's also perfect if you have some time to kill while waiting to go to the airport. It's a pretty small place with bar seating and tall table seating. We had a group of 6 and they had no problem accommodating us. It's in a small strip center with a liquor store and pharmacy. They all share parking and the lot is quite tight. We had a suburban and had to wait for someone to leave to pull in. The service was lovely! The staff was funny (and even hopped in on our group selfie) and very helpful. When we sat down they gave us a huge basket of like 15 salsas. We were immediately impressed! All the dishes were very filling and the food was flavorful and fresh. A lot of us opted for tacos, but we had a vegetarian and someone allergic to avocado so we diversified our orders to get to try a lot of things. They do have something for everyone!!! Hell yeah. We needed an easygoing taco fix while on a short trip in Cancun. We didn't want something complicated, required a reservation, or had drawn out table service. We wanted tacos...and beer. And that's exactly what Don's delivers. It's a bit of a road side spot with only bar-like seating for smaller groups. There's one guy behind the grill and another to take your order. By far the best tacos I've tried in the hotel zone. The group of friends and I toyed with the idea of taking an Uber into downtown Cancun to try some real authentic Mexican tacos but after trying dons, our taco needs were met. It's a smallish hole in the wall with big tables, good music playing, right off of the Main Street. Cool art decorates the walls and a plethora of salsas on the table setting the tone to get started with a cold beer and some tacos. Service was quick to get you what you need, not much else is needed here. I had the coconut shrimp tacos which when paired with the right salsa made for an amazing taco. The pastor was good, the small pineapple chunks were a little bit odd, im used to the big chunks cut right off the pineapple. But overall they were decent pastor tacos. I tried the ceviche which, be warned is a giant delicious portion size. The cheese fries were also a big portion with the most tender bistec I've had in a while. Price is slightly above average for street tacos. Last time in Mexico City a taco will run about 20 pesos which is a little over a dollar. Here they were about a buck 75 So not bad at all being in the tourist zone. I had tried two other spots for tacos in the hotel zone and this one beats them all, until I continue my quest for the perfect taco in Cancun that is. read more

This place is right across the street from the resorts on the Hotel Zone, and is tucked by a pharmacy, but you MUST eat here if you are staying in Cancun. It's an affordable taco and burrito bar, and let me tell you I was craving some authentic Mexican food as a break from the resort food and so glad we found this place. We got Al Pastor, Arrachera (steak), Coconut Shrimp, and Cochinita Pibil (shredded pork) tacos. The coconut shrimp and cochinita pibil were amazing. They had so much flavor. Don's This place is a bit of a hole in the wall. Originally when we looked this place up it was called Blue Gecko Cantina but I believe they changed owners. To start, we nearly missed this restaurant. We took the bus and saw a giant club blaring music. Besides the club is a brown hut which is the restaurant. There is only front outdoor seating that is under the hut and plenty of tables that are raised to bar level. Since we had a big party at arrived around 7:45 pm the place was nearly empty. But when we left (about 1.5 hours later) the place was packed and there was a line! I'm very glad we found this place to get a taste of authentic Mexican food and escape the places that cater to tourists. Food quality and portions: We were in a large group but I'll be reviewing the food I had and the food shared amongst the group. For appetizers we had the grande pollo nachos. These were quite delicious and filling. They were scarfed very fast between 5 people. I ordered the half chicken quesadilla and shrimp tacos (3 tacos). The half quesadilla was much bigger than I thought that I asked if it was the whole! It was 4 pieces, filling, and everything you'd hope a quesadilla would like. The shrimp tacos were also very a must try. On the tacos they put a chipotle sauce. (BE CAUTIOUS! The sauce has peanut sauce and they did not tell us so a member in our group had an allergic reaction to their tacos.) Very simple ingredients but very tasty. This meal had me very full but very satisfied. Long story short: Pollo nachos, half chicken quesadillas, and shrimp tacos were great Drinks: I ordered a pina colada. They came in tin cups and were very cold and tasty. I definitely recommend if you're looking for something refreshing. Overall: Great restaurant, service and environment. The staff is very nice but I ordered guacamole and chicken and pork tacos. The guacamole was just an avocado half smashed in a bowl with pico de gallo put on top. No salt even. The chicken tacos were ok but the chicken had a burnt oil taste. I couldn't Eve eat the second one. The pork taco was decent but lacked flavor. I tried the sauces they brought in a basket to the table, about 10 bottles but many were habanero or tasted a little off. I finally found one I could use and I literally had to put it on everything to give it flavor. My husband got a burrito and he really liked it. It was our first time in Cancun. Beautiful place filled with all smiling faces. No wonder they call the Yucatan peninsula the Caribbean Riviera. But what we realized that town grew to cater to tourists especially coming from United States (Ruth's Chris Steakhouse or worst yet, McDonald's, really!). As a person who travels only to experience the local culture, food, and its people so, I immediately dismissed the steakhouse and the hamburger chain! They were not even an option, however, the so called "Hotel Row" is filled with those Italian, Japanese, American, etc. restaurants that are soooooo boring when you are Cancun, Mexico! You know. Anyway, my search yielded this place being the most authentic and laid back. Simplicity and casualty is a key when it comes to picking a local food. Well, Don's Tacos & Burritos is that place. Albeit being a "hole in the wall", this place is nothing more than they claim to be; small shop front-street side seating where they serve you direct from the kitchen window. Choices are not many but the combinations are endless if you got the appetite. Both local beer and the food are reasonably priced and they fill you up plenty. What I would like to highlight are the homemade basket full of several different sauce bottles. My heaven, trying to try every flavor could simply make you end up trying every food on the menu! Hot, Sweet, Mixed, all rated by stars of spiciness is just so awesome, I just have to recommend the place to all of you out there to have that open mind and see what a local flavor can add to your already great vacation in this paradise called Cancun. Did surfin burrito (good) and torto bravo as well, (also good) Don's was superior. 10 different home made hot sauces, all really seriously tasty. Went 2 nights back to back due to quality and taste. Will think back on it as culinary highlight of hotel district. That said, bring cash. They take credit cards supposedly but machine not working.... Nearby atm's extortioners in fees. As in, 5 US dollar fee for US dollars, (only gives US dollars) then later wanting 28$ for the exchange even though it only gives US dollars. Ya... over 30 bucks to take out 200. Not sure if they are attached to one another yet do ask if credit card working prior to entry.
