I just received a call from this office that they need to cancel my mom's appt with Dr. Bui. They said their office doesn't take my mom's insurance. Guess when I first called them to make the appt? 30 days ago on April 1! It took them 30 days to verify / realize that they don't actually take our insurance. My mom and I could have spent these past 30 days finding another provider. If you're calling them make a first appt, please be diligent in confirming that they take your insurance, otherwise they won't verify until the very day before your appt date. read more

This review is about 2 years overdue, but Dr Bui is honestly the best, most empathetic, caring and competent doctor I have ever encountered. I met him in the hospital at Hoag after an emergency complication (which had nothing to do with him, just to be clear) and he was assigned to handle a damaged ureter. A lot of doctors come and go during extended hospital stays, and most honestly don't even really see you as anything but a number, but Dr Bui is different. He never let me fall through the cracks. He came to see me every day in the hospital while I was there, sometimes coming after a long day of seeing patients at his regular practice (offsite) at like 7pm at night. On the days he couldn't see me, he called me on the hospital phone to check on me, and every weekend that he wasn't on call, he sent a member of his team to check on me. They would introduce themself and say "hi I'm here because Dr Bui wanted me to make sure to look after you". In a post-sepsis world, this was everything. He also explained to me, very clearly what was going on and what his treatment plan was to help me in a way that made me feel like I was going to be ok. I was a high risk and kept getting re-infected. Dr Bui gave me his cell number to text him in case of emergency and the one time I had to use it, he acted quickly. He told me I needed to go to the hospital immediately (which I fought him on as it was my 4th hospitalization for the same incident). He said "you need to go now and I'm going to know if you don't because I'm going to have someone from my team meet you there". True to his word, I walked into the emergency room and they took me back immediately (he had called and told them I was coming). Within 10 mins I had an IV in my arm, blood cultures taken, and a nice doctor walked into my treatment room and introduced herself as Dr Bui's colleague, and immediately admitted me. This is genuinely the kindest, most thorough, compassionate doctor I have ever encountered and I can't recommend him enough. Thank you, Dr Bui, for saving my life. Dr. Bui and his team are all caring and efficient. He came down to the hospital after hours and operated on my disabled son with Cerebral Palsy and relieved his pain right away. Dr.Bui did a cystoscopy and I was very nervous about it. But the nurse and the Dr were very understanding and reassured me that it would quick. The office is very busy and sometimes there is a wait, but worth it if you getting good care. 3/25/24 Edit I just received the attached letter from Dr. Bui. not only did he not care to investigate the issue i outlined below, he had the audacity to send me a letter stating "I am withdrawing from your future medical care". Original Review Can't be bothered with Emergencies Orange County Urology Associates doesn't answer phone calls, they only respond to texts and (if you're lucky) return VMs, so when I had a urgent health concern, possibly related to a medication prescribed by the Huntington Beach office i was in trouble. I sent an urgent text explaining my situation in detail and that i needed a response from my Urologist stat. Two hours later I received a msg from a receptionist saying my msg was received and that the triage nurse would contact me. A little slow but ok. The NEXT DAY late morning I still hadn't heard from anyone so I texted back reminding them of my urgent health concern. Three hours and no response later (24 hrs from my initial contact) I called my Primary and got a same day appt. At least some Dr offices take these things seriously. I texted one last time to tell them not to bother and that I wouldn't be back. Guess what.. they didn't bother. A bit more. They schedule unneeded appts and charge you (before you even have your appt) what they guess your financial responsibility will be rather than confirming and billing you like literally every other Dr's office O have ever been to. And it turns out they overcharge so i had to call for a refund. Their poor billing manager said this happens all the time and it's such a hassle. Clearly they do this on purpose hoping their patients won't bother calling for the refund. What a horrible practice. OCUA, you're supposed to be in the business of caring for people. Started off well and responsive, but now, not so much. First visit: warm and friendly, Second visit: also OK. Third visit: Hard and fast pitch for surgery but he also referred me to another doctor to investigate radiation option. I'm investigating my options for treatment and have questions. I tried to ask a few questions via text message with his office, but got no answer. Other doctors have systems for messages, but not here. So, there's no way to ask questions without an appointment (which are usually 5 to 6 weeks for availability). His "about me" page states "Dr. Bui believes that medicine starts with a good patient-physician relationship. He is dedicated to providing the best of urological care in an individualized and conscientious manner". This leaves me to go and find a better relationship. read more

The nurse toll me that the infection is not from cystoscope with him ?? She said is maybe from something elsewhat else after 24 hrs bleeding from cystoscope ? Met with Dr. Don Bui this week in HB. Unfortunately this office has not addressed the office staff issues that have been reported in many many reviews. The staff is a nightmare to work with, the lack of patient engagement and overall staff attitude is disappointing. I read the poor reviews while waiting for MD thinking I was reading too much into the first impression. Nope the reviews are dead on. I will be seeking care from a doctors office that at the minimum "acts" like the experience of Dr Bui's office should be positive. I cannot recommend Dr Bui because of his choice in staff - he appeared competent in the less than five minute appointment if you can draw anything from that. In busy offices, you often deal with the staff more than the doctor so this is incredibly important to have a good team. If the staffs character and attitude is a reflection of the doctors whom they work for I definitely do not want to be treated by these doctors. If it is a reflection of the office manager, then shame on the doctors and clinic Director for not rectifying this issue after so many negative reviews. TERRIBLE staffing attitude. read more

The bad news is I have had kidney stones several times, but the good news is that I have a "fantastic" doctor to help me get through the stones. Worst doctor I have ever been to! I have a long history of interstitial cystitis, and really needed some answers and help. Dr. Bui's receptionist is incredibly rude and obnoxious, and when I saw him he rushed me out after only a few sentences exchanged between us. He pushed a prescription on me that is actually known to make my condition worse! The saddest thing is that there is an excellent pelvic floor physical therapist in Orange County and he did not even try to refer me to them. I found out about this physical therapist called Pelvic Sanity (highly recommend them!) by myself and paid out of pocket to go see them. If you have interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome stay away from Dr. Bui. He is clearly not up to date on treatment options and would rather push people out and collect quick money from their insurance than actually give thoughtful care. What a laughable excuse for a medical professional. I paid basically nothing to see this doctor due to having insurance, but honestly you could not pay me any amount to ever see him again. read more

Every time it is time for my prescription renewal there is a screw-up. It is either sent to the wrong pharmacy or prescription is not correctly filled or not even sent to the pharmacy at all. You will note Dr Bui does not have a note pad, iPad, laptop or computer when he is talking to you, so I always repeat to him the prescriptions that I need to be filled but he drops the ball because my pharmacy does not have the prescription. The pharmacy reaches out directly to his office and several days later, they are still waiting for his response. It requires that I call the office 3-4 times to get it right. Consistent with comments from others on Yelp, the staff that answers the phone are consistently rude and most unhelpful (Jessica, Esther, etc.). Even when you are in the office, you will see the staff frequently on their own cell phone probably busy checking their Facebook or Instagram accounts. These people have no repercussions because even when you ask to speak to their supervisor, Jackyln, she does not return calls. Now, after 3 years of dealing with this deplorable service, I will be asking my Primary Care Physician to refer me to a different urologist. read more
