Me and my wife and some of her co workers have eaten here on 8 different occasions in the last 4 weeks, haven't had any issues the entire time and seeing as how we frequented the location we decided to get a punch card to earn a free lunch after 7 meals. Today we attempted to use the punch card (we order the same thing every time) we were told since it wasn't a lunch special the card couldn't be redeemed after explaining to the manager they've punched the card every time and we always order the same exact meal they acknowledged the mistake and said if we forced them to correct their wrong they would take the cost of our meal out of the servers wages which in the state of Ohio is illegal from what I've read. So obviously we weren't about to let that happen so we paid our tab and will never again eat at this restaurant which doesn't honor their agreements and wants to threaten customers with their employees wages which is against the law in the state of Ohio. read more

They just completed some new renovations inside and outside which makes if look phenominal! Their margaritas are great. I typically order the beerita which has a corona inside the margarita. I have been coming to this place for a few years now and still see the same faces. Very kind and attentive service. Ive had fajitas, which are excellent..salsa is on point and chips are never stale! I went to this establishment to get a Torta. Most of the items abd Shredded cheese was left off of the sandwich. My mother got a fajita taco salad with the sour cream on the side. Okay, her sour cream was missing. How is it that you cannot get a simple order correct? I usually go to another Mexican restaurant. Very displeased. I've been coming here since it was formerly Ranch Allegre, and it was great before, and has only gotten better. Staff is always extremely friendly, prompt and helpful. Food is a little on the pricey side, but you definitely get what you pay for. I would much rather pay a little extra for high quality consistent meals with friendly service. I travel put of town just about every week for work, and one of the days I'll always stop at a Mexican restaurant for dinner... no BS, nothing beats Don Tequila... and no one can ever beat their Molcajete... it's the best around. read more

So I'm from the south, and this kind of place is just par for the course down there. It's not "real" Mexican food, it's extremely Americanized... but it's cheap, very filling, and (best for me) very easy to go gluten-free. In general, I try not to eat at these places too often, because it's all too easy to stuff yourself on very unhealthy food without batting an eye. But I've discovered a terrible lack of good Mexican food in Columbus. This place really helps fill that void. I can't believe how inexpensive their food is. The servers are always ridiculously nice. The margaritas are actually pretty good. Basically, I love it. Pro tip: try the chicken & rice soup. It's a hidden gem on their menu. It has fresh avocado and cilantro in it! Delicious. read more

My sis and I had a nice dinner at Rancho Alegre the other night. It continues to be my favorite Mexican spot in town. We were seated promptly in a comfortable booth. The building is a former TGIFridays, but has undergone significant remodeling with a lot of nice wrought iron work to give some ethnic flavor. The bar area is fairly large and has large TV's which often play soccer, but I have seen basketball, news, and soaps playing too. The overall feel is more upscale than many of the other Mexican spots in North Columbus. The waitress took our margarita orders quickly and we barely had time to eat a chip before they were delivered. Mine was a traditional on the rocks and it was perfect. None of that acidy nastiness that can come from the bad sour mix you get in some places. Sis's frozen berry version reportedly hit the spot, too. Our food was delivered by a stoic gentleman who took his job quite seriously and who provided a great presentation. I had encheladas Yolanda, which is chicken with red sauce, and everything was perfect. The chicken, peppers, and onions were cooked to a nice level of tenderness and the sauce was a great mix of sweetness and smokey spice. Even the rice side was flavorful but not overdone. The encheladas were so good, in fact, that I had to remember to come up for air. There were no leftovers. Sis had chicken fajitas, and they arrived sizzling happily along with all the fixins. Some of those did head home with us. The server even brought extra tortillas and, when asked, refried beans for the doggy bag. This was my fifth or sixth visit, and I can say that the service and food at Rancho Alegre is consistently good. The only reason that I can't give them the fifth star is the bathrooms. If they spent a little money to spruce them up, they would make the elite in my book. That said, I truly look forward to my next visit and next margarita. read more

I ordered the Lunch Special #14: Green Burrito The bar area has 6 pretty good sized TVs, mostly tuned to sports. The complimentary chips and salsa were not bad. Neither seemed made in house. Service was very fast, but please note I am one of 3 patrons in the restaurant at the time. The rice was really great! Not over cooked, and seasoned perfectly. Rice is a good indicator of the whole shebang in this reviewers opinion. The guacamole salad was very nice. Thick slice of fresh tomato, the shredded lettuce was also fresh and crisp. The guacamole itself was a little bland, but not off putting. Ask for a wedge of lime for a fix. The green burrito, was not as green as the picture in the menu. This is a disappointment as I really love a good verde salsa. It was a perfect size to complete the meal. The pork was excellent, and the onions and peppers were nice and crunchy without being under-cooked. All-in-all, I feel it was a lunch well worth the price. read more

I go here quite often with my co-workers. After we have had a rough day, we make a trip here for some margaritas and chips and salsa. Every time I visit here, I have a good experience. Everyone is alert, friendly and always on top of it service wise. We are never stranded, waiting for service, etc. and the place is always clean. They have great margaritas and their food is good as well. It's your typical Mexican Restaurant (El Vaquero, etc.). I feel most of the food at places like this taste very similar. It's what you go for, and they have it! We always have a good time here, just waiting for one of those rough days to come along to make another visit! read more

The taco holder is a fabulous idea. The wife bought the Pork Carnitas, and that meal was the best that we have tasted in Columbus. I thought that seemed pricey, but the salad is 6.99 and cheese dip 3.75 and I asked for guac on the taco salad. I get back to work and have a fajita salad and no queso or guac. I am not a fan of grilled green pepper and onions and I wanted what I ordered. I call and go back.They remake the taco salad and give me extra queso. The lunch taco salad says beans-no beans.If I wasn't such a huge fan of mexican food, I'd quit this place. Food is good, service is terrible for takeout. There are so many choices for Mexican food in the area but this is one of my all time favorites!!! After visiting a couple other "not so great" establishments my friend and I decided to give DT a shot. We visited for lunch on a Thursday afternoon and of course sat at the bar. There were a few other people dining inside but nothing crazy. We sat down and were greeted within minutes with menus and chips and salsa! Very good salsa might I add. Being the margarita fans that we are of course we had to order one and it was only $3.99 during lunch hours!! And this wasn't some dinky margarita with a drop of tequila, it was perfect for a lunchtime cocktail. So far so good!!! The have a really good lunch menu and I opted for the lunch veggie fajitas and I was sooo happy I did. They came with beans and rice and the veggies were cooked perfectly! Peppers, onions, mushrooms, zucchini and some fresh cucumber which I've never seen before but when added to the other items, provided a nice texture and flavor. The service was great, fast and made sure we were always happy. They mentioned the Happy Hour specials that we will definitely be back for and boxed our food to go. They even provided extra chips and salsa to take home! I absolutely loved this place and it's my top choice for great Mexican food in the area. read more

Overall an average dining experience on par with most of the Mexican restaurants in the area with a few glaring exceptions. Their perfect margarita is far from perfect lacking any lime flavor. The salsa is very watery and runny. On a good note the carne asada was flavorful, tender and perfectly grilled, unfortunately the plate sat under the salamander a bit too long to the point the rice dried out and browned. After repeated failures to get Mexican food that was anything but terrible (El Vaquero, I'm looking in your direction) since we left San Diego my expectations for Rancho Alegre were pretty low, to be honest. Our neighbors love the place, though, so we figured we'd give it a chance. We hadn't even sat down when one of the servers asked if she could hold the baby (of course you can, my arms are constantly tired,) at which point we talked about kids for a while, like we were old friends. The service was like this for our whole visit; super friendly, super fast, and more like family than the staff at some rando Mexican joint inside the beltway in the capital city of a flyover state. We enjoyed the food as well, though I'd skip the tamales and stick with the burritos or chimichangas. We will be back soon.
