This week we had an issue with one of our heaters, and Dan and Allie came with a $300 repair kit and a $1,600 replacement water heater. Dan quickly saw that the gas valve replacement kit would solve the issue and immediately went that route. Eight years ago Dan revealed the "secrets" of making a good water heater last a good long time: 1. Keep the temperature setting constant, even if leaving the house for an extended period. This keeps the water tank from contracting and expanding due to changes in water temps. 2. Check the anode yearly and change when necessary. Owner manuals tell how and why. 3. Run household water softener systems at the lowest possible setting. Such systems are the enemy of water heaters. OWH's prices are below others I have checked. Water heaters are very expensive in Utah now because of our rules requiring ultra-low NOX heaters to be used in accordance with California regulations (yes, California). Ultra-low NOX heaters are ultra-expensive.

Tyler originally came last week and gave me an estimate on options, describing the pros and cons of each. He was very knowledgeable and I really felt like he was honest and forthright. We ended up with two toilets, two grab bars, and repairing a broken water controller in the tub. I though it just needed to be screwed back on and asked for help with that, but it turned out a part was broken (my dad had fallen and hit it), so Tyler gave me instructions and I ran to Home Depot while they were working on the toilets. Tyler ran into a snag with one of the toilets. We've been aware from right after moving in that the builders here cut a lot of corners, and they also did that with the toilet installment. So Tyler had to work around the weird jerry-rigging done by the lousy builders, resulting in extra work and extra time. He explained the issue and showed me how he was dealing with it. In the meantime, Skyler worked on the broken water controller, discovering more damage than expected. They didn't even charge me for that word, saying since it didn't take them any more time, since Skyler worked on it while Tyler took care of the weird toilet issues. They consulted with me all along the way about how and where to install the grab bars, checking to make sure they were absolutely solid, having me look over everything and give my ok. Everything looks great. I really appreciate the professionalism and expertise of these men. Our home is a safer place, and I am so thankful. They were able to come do the job quickly (two days after I accepted the estimate). These guys will have my business in the future.

The copper lining of my outdoor spigot must have had some water in it over the winter, subsequently froze, and caused a major crack in the pipe. This spigot just so happens to be the only one available for my swamp cooler to connect to. Being without any sort of AC for any period of time during the Utah summer is a bad time, so I am glad Hot and Soft were able to finish this up quick. Shoe covers, on time, knowledgeable, and friendly. All I could ever ask for when it comes to anyone in the trades, but especially someone repairing stuff on my home. The technician was very professional . We had another company look at the problem earlier in the day & they said we needed a new furnace & ac unit as our motherboard was ruined . It would be $13,000 . We decided to get another opinion. The technician came in & right away notice the flame igniter was cracked . We told him about the motherboard issues he checked it & said it worked fine . He said he could get us the part later in the day but was able to light our furnace & get us heat . The pipes had already been cleaned under the sink, but it turned out there was a blockage in some old pipes in the wall. He came back the next day and opened up the wall in a bedroom behind the sink in the bathroom. He was able to clean out the pipes and replace a pipe that had been corroded and ended up breaking during the auger process. Brent and his coworker worked quickly to diagnose the problem and also cleaned up everything before leaving. I was very impressed with his work ethic and thoroughness with the job, as well as his honesty regarding what needed to be done. He gives a two hour window when he is coming to allow you to plan your day and his time for scheduling is very reasonable and not far out. Sometimes same day, or a few days later, depending on the situation. I will definitely call Brent again when I have plumbing problems that need to be fixed.

Fast forward to June of 2022 it started leaking again and was unnoticed. As a result we had mold under our carpet, walls and baseboards and had to rip it all out. After we had it repaired by another company we discovered that the clamps on either side of the patch were not secured resulting in its failure. This was a complete nightmare and ended up costing me a substantial amount of money. I regret that I used them and would urge you to exercise caution!
