Nice little boutique restaurant in downtown Indiana. We started out with drinks .... Strawberry Margarita and an Aperol Spritz. Margarita was made with fresh strawberries and lime, very tasty. First time my wife ordered an Aperol Spritz where the champagne was opened on the spot so it wasn't flat like everywhere else she had ordered one. We then ordered Appetizers. Funghi con Crema and Sausage Ricotta Bruschetta were interesting and tasty choices recommended by our server, Peyton. For dinner, we tried the Filet Mignon au Poivre (i think that's how it was spelled) with Courvosier Cognac cream sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly! Also tried the Chambord Fig Salmon, prepared with figs. I inhaled my wife's potatoes. They were crispy with a parmigian truffle oil. They had small plated to try for $9 .... we ordered the truffle burrata penne to try while we waited for our dinners. They were pretty busy when we got there. Definitely a restaurant to go to when you want that dining experience. Not a grab and go! We got our appetizers and salads fairly quickly but it took a bit of time for dinner to arrive. I'm going to have to disagree with "Konet X" ... thinking you just have a grudge against the restaurant. You put in your review 9/26/08 - they didn't even reopen their location up until 9/30/08!! No one likes liars. I knew you had a personal vendetta when you made the remark on "non-fresh bread" .... their homemade bread is OUT OF THIS WORLD!! As for the corking fee, it was $4, this is normal for any restaurant when you bring in your own bottle of wine (they usually charge more if they have their own liquor license). On a personal note, my wife and I have gone to Donatello's many times and have enjoyed the food and service on every occasion. We were told about this gem many years ago by friends and we've continued to recommend to our friends and family. My daughter recently celebrated her graduation there and as we walked into the dining room, the owners had surprised us with a beauiful cake to congratulate my daughter. The owners and staff are always warm and welcoming. You must try some of their specialty items like "Black Truffle Saccheitti" and the "Linguine Marechiaro with Scallops, Shrimp and Zucchini" - my wife loves their Godiva Chocolate Martinis! This was our 2nd time dining at this cozy little spot as my daughter recently graduated from IUP. Our guests and I vowed to make a trip back! The low lighting and the jazzy holiday music greeted us the hostess came up to us with a smile and seated us promptly. Our server was a delight as well .... knowledgeable with the menu items as one of our guests had allergies. We had calamari and clams casino as an appetizer ... already a great start to our meal! The feature entrees that we tried were the Wild Caught Salmon and Shrimp with a Pesto Cream sauce (the salmon was delicious and cooked just right, the sauce was decadent)! Someone also tried the Prime Rib and I remembered them stating, "it is literally melting in my mouth as I speak!" Another guest asked for something that was no longer on the menu but the server checked with the kitchen and was able to accommodate since they had the prosciutto and ingredients to make. They typically have a feature drink at the bar. I tried their Holiday Cranberry Margarita, most definitely one of the best margaritas I have ever tried! We ended our evening with their well known Tiramisu (I am now spoiled and a tiramisu snob)! I would recommend reservations, especially on the weekends! read more

This is in regards to the previous email... It looks to me as if you have a personal vendetta with the owners. Ask anyone in town, Donatello's has a reputation for great food. They have quite a following! As with any business, there's always a handful of unhappy customers and it seems that you are one of Donatello's very, very few. What boggles me is that your review was posted on 9/26/08. They have been temporarily closed from 5/08 to 10/08. So what prompted you to write a review about them 4 months after they closed?!?! You shouldn't give untruths when writing a review about a business ....non-fresh bread? They are KNOWN for their fresh, homemade bread! People buy their bread and sauce to take home! As for the corking fee .... they charge $4 if you bring in your own bottle (call any restaurant...they have corking fees also that normally start at $10). As for beer, I brought beer in several times as well as friends of mine - we were never charged. Either you're mistaken, the server accidentally charged you, or your shamefully trying to drag Donatello's through the mud again for reasons of your own. Maybe you should limit yourself to Sheetz subs and stay home to drink your beer. read more

Nestled in a quaint college town. This came recommended by a shop owner nearby. We were greeted upon entering. The servers seem to be trained in greeting, serving and bartending. We sat outside. Tables were bathed in a nice lighting as it got dark. They seemed to have a little bit of everything. They had menu items that you may be able to get somewhere else but they also featured items that you couldn't find elsewhere. They had a salmon dish with breaded calamari in a bourbon sriracha that was out of this world! A very relaxing evening with friends. Wine list and the handcrafted drinks were delightful. Tiramisu made a nice ending to our meal. I would recommend this restaurant for a romantic dinner or an evening out with friends. read more

I have had a great experience at Donatello's each time I have visited! The food is fantastic and the service was great as well. Not only is the wait staff attentive but the owners/cooks will come out to be sure everyone is above satisfied! There is a ten dollar corking fee, which is very reasonable considering you would pay double that (at least) at a "ritzy" restaurant. I don't know anyone who brings a six pack to a family dining restaurant anyways, so you don't need to worry about paying a corking fee for each beer.... You will leave full and satisfied without ripping a hole in your wallet, unless you plan to eat dinner at McDonald's. For the quality of food you get the price is beyond reasonable! I thought about gate keeping this, however I wanted to just say that ever since I've moved to PA (Indiana) I have been somewhat disappointed in the food here as Texas has amazing food. I've asked people where to eat around town and I get the typical places. Please tell me why no one has ever told me about Donatello's on Philly? I ate there last night with a friend and it's not only the best food I've had in Pennsylvania, but possibly ever. I've been here for almost 6 years and not one person has ever recommended that place. YALL. It's the best food I've had maybe ever (spacifically the Ahi Tuna Nachos). There is my rant and my recommendation to go there. read more

So glad to have this restaurant in our community. It would line up easily against the heavy hitters in Pittsburgh. Donatello's caters to everyone - those looking for Americanized Italian such as Lasagna or those looking for something a bit more upscale such as Pork Osso Bucco. Although they have a small dining room, they have a full bar. I would suggest reservations, especially on weekends. And if you're planning on hanging out for awhile, make your reservation later so they don't need the table. read more

Never knew about this cute little place! Came here upon recommendation and will be back. I was told the Sampler is the most popular. I tried the Chicken Cordon Bleu ... I. Loved. It. Everything is made in their kitchen. Bartender told us they prep all of their pastas, meats, sauces, desserts, etc everyday, all day! I've had several dishes from Donatello's and all were wins. The eggplant a veal dish is a great traditional dish with balanced Italian flavors. They also have a dish with fresh pasta and black truffle oil, pancetta and peas. I love it. Every time I've had its been seasoned and cooked to perfection. If you're in town looking for real food, that is worth the price I highly suggest Donatello's. read more

Clean and attentive server! Last time was wonderful so we make it up here once again. Someone on here said meatballs were hard last time they were in. Mine were tasty and had the texture that a good meatball should have .... maybe they reviewed the wrong place or maybe they forgot to put in their teeth! Charming restaurant! Didn't expect it from the exterior. Small dining room so make reservations on weekends otherwise you'll end up eating at the bar like we did! Food tasted housemade. Service was outstanding and food is out of this world! A must for dining out! Parking can be an issue since they don't have their own parking lot. Side street parking is what you have to work with. read more
