Ordered 3 pizzas and was told it would be 30 minutes. It took over an hour and two of my pizzas that had been done for over 30 minutes just sat in their kitchen and got cold while waiting for the third to finish. They weren't even busy, as there was only myself waiting, and ine couple seated, finishing their meal. We first went to Tom's Pizza at its original location in Indiana PA close to 45 years ago, and were happy to find that while the location and faces have changed that it still is the kind of positive experience as all those years ago. It is about a 25 minute drive to get a pizza there now from where we live, but it is well worth the drive every month or so to get a great pizza that has a unique crust just a little different than any of the other pizza we get from our other usual restaurants. Prices are reasonable, the facility is comfortable, the staff is attentive to customers, and there are a variety of specials for anyone looking for something other than pizza. The bottom line is that we seldom if ever get pizza from the big national chains, because there are many small pizza shops in Westmoreland and Indiana counties here in Western Pennsylvania. The best ones offer slightly different tastes that provide variety. Tom's is one of about a half dozen that we keep in our rotation, and that I would comfortably recommend to any pizza lover. read more

Pizza is not the same. I had the pizza a month ago and noticed a difference in bottom of crust, figured it was a bad day for the cooks. I tried it again last week and the top crust as well as bottom were different, not like the Tom's pizza I have been eating most of my life. I am not sure what changed and why but it was not enjoyable. I may give it one more try to make sure and if it's still the changed recipe or whatever the issue, I wont be going back. I've searched high and low and they truly have the best Greek Salad you can find anywhere. It's high quality EVOO, fresh spices, top notch feta, and quality ingredients overall. I actually crave the salad when I'm away from home too long. The cost is extremely fair. Today I got a Greek Salad for four, breadsticks, and a small pizza and it was only $23. It's true, there is occasionally yelling from the kitchen from the married couple that own and operate this restaurant every day. However when my Greek/Italian family is in the kitchen cooking together we're constantly shouting. My mom will shout at me and my sister, "I need you girls to stop arguing, I can't concentrate" and we'll yell back, "we're not arguing. This is how we talk to each other." I worked here as a dishwasher back in 2003, and still reminisce over how amazing the sausage hero was. They made the sausage in-house, and it's bangin'. The pizza and wings are pretty awesome, but try the sausage! Only down side is that, at least back then, the owners would often be screaming at each other in Greek in the back office. I really love the food here, especially the pizza. Lots of people love the Greek salad. I love the Tuesday pizza special, and they have lunch specials every day. The prices are quite reasonable. The restaurant could use a little remodeling, especially in the bathroom, but beyond that, this is a great little place to get some pizza or Greek food. Tom isn't Italian, he's Greek, and his name isn't really Tom, but his Pizza Palace is definitely fit for royalty. The thin-crusted pizza has a unique and delicious texture that I've never been able to replicate at home--there must be a secret ingredient, but it's the key to what makes this pizza special. The crust is thin, but not too thin, and just a little flaky. The sauce is rich and tangy, not sweet, and the cheese is top quality, as are all the toppings. Tom's clearly cares about making an excellent product, and it is the pizza against which I compare all other pizza. I've tasted better pizza in New York and San Francisco--in legendary pizza joints--and that's it. Tom's is a destination pizzeria, worthy of a trip just to taste. If your tastes don't run to pizza, don't worry. The sandwiches are good and so are the authentic gyros. We particularly like starting each visit with the generous and addictive greek salads--freshly made and covered with delicious feta-laden dressing. Tom's usually has specials that are of the "two for" deals--a large might be $12.99 but two larges are just $14.99. Don't worry that you can't eat that much--get the second one and take it home with you, but be warned: there may not be as many leftovers as you expect. Since I came to Indiana I've been looking for a pizza that was good. I found a great pizza when I came to Tom's. The square cut definitely adds to the appeal and their specialty pies like the buffalo chicken, Greek White, and Tom's special are bangin'. They're specials always make an affordable meal for everyone, especially students. I also highly recommend any hoagie from there. This is by far my favorite pizza place in town. Went tonight and had the worst experience ever. My family got pizza but I got 5 wings and 4 meatballs, a diet restriction doesn't allow breads. We got everything but my 4 meatballs. It took them 1 hrs to bring me 4 meatballs and the waitress kept saying they were slammed in the kitchen meanwhile I can see right in the kitchen from our seats and the staff and owner were just standing around. Owners daughter and waitresses were standing in the drink area talking to each other. Real busy, huh, to put 4 meatballs and sauce and cheese in a bowl. Won't be going there for a while. Fyi: this review has little to do with the quality of food. The pizza and Greek salad combo has always been a favorite of my family and continues to satisfy. However, my family and I had the worst service experience i have ever experienced in my life-we honestly questioned if we were being pranked. To set the scene, the restaurant had less than half of its tables filled with customers and had some customers waiting for to go orders. Some of my family members arrived at the restaurant earlier than the rest of our party to grab some coffee while they waited. Myself and others arrived about 20 minutes after they had ordered these drinks. They had not received the coffee by that point. Our waitress then came over to take the rest of our drink orders which was all waters. We received the waters about 20 minutes later after having to approach the front counter. Finally we all received waters and coffees. Our family sat there for about 40 minutes before our order for food was taken. Half of our food came out in a timely fashion, except for one small pizza that we ordered. When we asked the waitress about this she claimed to check the status of the pizza but then never returned. This small pizza finally arrived at our table about 20-30 minutes after the rest of our food had already arrived. No refills were given for our waters and coffees for the duration. At one point my family member had to share some of my water since he had already finished his and was still thirsty. Our waitress came back after we finished to give us boxes but then never returned with the checks. My family member had to again approach the counter where she was met with less than friendly service. We have been coming to Toms for years but this has made us question doing our Sunday lunches there. TLDR: Pizza is good; service is awful read more

It saddens me to make this review. For the past 25 years, one of the joys of coming back to the area was the enjoyment of a Tom's Pizza. This came to an abrupt end this week. The crust was not its usual crispy, yet chewy self, the sauce was different, the cheese was skimpy, and the ground beef was not its normally flavorful self. I was warned that this was the case, but I ignore the warnings, because who would mess with something that has worked for decades? Sigh....I was wrong. The pizza is awesome but the service was terrible. My friend and I were on our lunch break only having one hour. We sat for 10 minutes before we grabbed a waiter. Instead of helping us he said he would send someone over. Still no one came. We grabbed him next time he came back, once again he said he'd send someone. Finally after 25 minutes a waitress came over and we knew what we wanted. By the time we got our lunch we only had 5 minutes left in our break we asked for a box and our check. She couldn't find our check and killed another 5-6 minutes pissing around. I will order from there but never go when I am on a timed break. It's in town where a lot of people go for lunch.. They really should learn to manage the waiters and waitresses better so people can get out in an hour. My friend and i both had to take 15 minutes comp time because of this. read more

I've been coming here since I started going to school at IUP and I refuse to order pizza from anywhere else. My husband and I stopped in this evening and had the Greek salad for 2 and the white Greek pizza with feta cheese. It was wonderful. Well, I knew Tom was Greek, but I never knew his name wasn't Tom (as another reviewer has stated). I'll have to still call him Tom, since I am not privy to his real name. Tom's is one of those reassuring places to go because it sure appears that the same pizza recipe they used 30 years ago is still being used today. Sometimes you are just in the mood for a Tom's pizza, it's as simple as that. Tom's delivers or you can eat in the restaurant downtown. For those returning to Indiana after many years, you should know that the original location on Philly street burned down years ago and it is now on 7th Street. We haven't eaten in for a couple of years, but the last time we did, the extra large did still come in Tom's trademark criss-cross cut which we really like. Ordering the same pizza for delivery, you get traditional diameter cuts (easier to box and keep hot I would think). It's very distinctive tasting pizza with thinnish but slightly chewy crust and sauce that is not sweet. Toppings are fine. The key here is that the pizza is usually really really good when Tom (or whoever he is) actually makes it. We have had varying results and not always as good when others make the pizza. The Greek salads are very tasty, totally because their feta dressing is really yummy. I'm guessing that they use the feta, oil, and possibly lemon juice and some oregano. However, the greens are not green, but usually just iceberg lettuce and that's a little disappointing. Dipping the pizza crust into the remaining dressing is mmmmmmmm, good. Their gyros are also usually very very good, if you are a gyro fan. I usually ask for extra cuke sauce on the side. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the hoagies. They routinely put ketchup (yes ketchup!) on their steak hoagies and the meat isn't great. The Italian is better but not as good as it should be. The meatball is pretty bad IMO, the balls taste like a not very good frozen variety. Poor hoagie lovers like me in Indiana, PA. We haven't had a great place for hoagies since the days of Carlos pizza, many decades ago. read more

Then after ordering a salad with greens only I waited 45 minutes for it to come and it was a wilted bowl of iceburg which I told her I didnt want. This place is a really nice family owned restaurant. The servers are extremely nice and the food is always top notch. I have a hard time picking what to get most of the time because I have yet to try something I didn't like. Regardless of my main entrée, my family and I always get the appetizers: Dolmades and hummus. If you haven't tried this place it is definitely worth your time.
