I've been going to Bruno's for over 30 years--I used to take my daughter there when she was little and she liked going upstairs by herself to pay the check. We had gnocchi and manicotti last night that were very good. The salad dressings were good. The bread was fresh. I ordered calamari as an appetizer and was really disappointed with it--WAY too overdone. I would have sent it back if I wasn't with my friend. The service was good. I wish they wouldn't cook their meat with onions and would have a no-onion version of lasagne. I got the plain tomato sauce on my gnocchi. read more

My wife and I hadn't been here in about 20 years and were really looking forward to it, but the experience was disappointing. There was a noticeable odor as soon as we walked in, and the place looks like it hasn't been updated in decades. We arrived at 6, only to find out they were closing at 7, and while we were still eating, our waitress started running a manual vacuum around the dining room. Because of a street festival, the door was left open while they were serving pizza outside, and with it being 90 degrees, the hot air was blowing right inside. I had a good meal here. The arancinis were good but not very hot. I tried the sampler with lasagna, sausage, and a couple ravioli. Their sauce tastes canned and I don't think the pasta is homemade but it is reasonably good. This place is more like an Olive Garden to me, good but not great. read more

I grew up in Indiana going to Bruno's and try to stop by on the rare occasions I am in Indiana. Physically the place has not changed in 55 years. I find it nostalgic, but I'm sure it looks dingy to most. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. We had no trouble getting a table on a Saturday evening. The food came in reasonable time and was as delicious as ever. I have not found better spaghetti or lasagna anywhere and I love the red blue cheese salad dressing. read more

Simple: DO NOT ORDER THE VEAL! It is a pre-fab, frozen, ground veal patty, exactly like a cheap Great Value chicken patty. It was very watery and cool in the middle like it wasn't defrosted completely. Absolutely gross! My fiance' and I each took 1 bite and had to leave it. Unfortunate, bc that was their special and it was $26+. When you think quality Italian Reataurant, frozen veal patty is not what comes to mind. Red sauce is SUPER sweet on pasta. Some ppl like that, I do not The pizza was fair, light and flaky crust, would not order again though. Extremely disappointed to say the least. Bruno's used to be my favorite restaurant in Indiana. When I visited for the first time in 6 years, I knew I had to eat there! However, I was sorely disappointed. I should've listened to the other reviewers. We sat in the wine cellar, which was composed of unstable chairs and folding card tables. We were greeted by our server who ended up rushing us the entire time (they were not at all busy). She didn't tell us any of the specials, but she kept coming to our table to ask if we were ready yet. We ordered the pepperoni roll app which ended up being the only good part! They' were quite delicious, crisp, and flaky! This was not the case with our gnocchi. We received the first order of gnocchi, and it was extremely rubbery. We asked for a second ordered to be cooked a little more, but it honestly wasn't much better. We couldn't even finish it between the two of us. Our server, Julie, treated us terribly after sending our meal back. She wouldn't approach our table, and she made us feel so unwelcome. We seriously couldn't wait to leave. She was so nice to the other table she had near us, so I'm not sure why it was different for us. I will never return to Bruno's. So sad that it's become what it is. read more

We went for dinner tonight and were very disappointed. Our soup and entree both came out cold. The ketchup bottle at our table was empty and our waitress never brought us back another. Actually as I'm still sitting here writing this, we haven't seen our waitress in the last 20 minutes. I got the recommendation to try this place by a local...and while the food was okay, and I had a nice chat with the owner, and the server was absolutely terrific... Watching the cook stroll into the kitchen, not wash his hands after entering (where were you...I dont know...), not wear gloves handling food, wearing dirty clothes, sweating somewhat profusely...all actually observed first hand... Umm...no. Nope. You can, and should, do better. People, like me, see this sort of stuff and think "not coming back". read more

We were on our way to Scary Harry's for a Halloween activity and decided to stop and eat here. Sure it's older inside, but it's very delicious! We had stuffed banana peppers and they were amazing! Very homemade taste like Grandma's . And we also had a Delicious thin crusted Pizza. I enjoyed it all with an ice cold and very fresh Peroni! My fiancé had a Manhattan. The staff was very friendly too. Good Bartender for cocktails! Being Italian myself, I can say they cook like family I definitely recommend. read more

Was disappointed. Have been going here since college. Went back the other night and it was just ok. Ordered gnocchi because I remember how good they use to be. Each one was very small and thin. The sauce was greasy ordered garlic toast and waited intil my dinner was almost over. Asked the waitress where my toast was and she said they were busy. 3 tables were taken in the restaurant. Finally she brought it to my table. The bread was hot but not very toasted. Also table next to mine spilled a dry no with ice. Waiter picked up the cubes on the floor with his hands then went over and waited on the other table without washing hands. It wasn't a bad experience it was just annoying. read more

Nothing really stands out to me here, it isn't the best Italian food I've ever had, but it is pretty standard. The service is friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is dated and dingy, but clean. The food I've had is unimaginative, and always leaves something to be desired. It isn't bad, just lacking in flavor. Bruno's owners could do a few things to make it a better experience: 1. Update the atmosphere. The wine cellar could be a great dining experience, but you almost feel like you're dining in someone's cleared out basement. With minimal work, this space could easily be transformed into something special. 2. Re-work the recipes. I don't necessarily think the menu needs to be completely revamped, but the recipes could be updated with more flavor - a squeeze of lemon here, freshly cracked pepper there - these small adjustments could take ho-hum dinners to wonderful meals. The food isn't bad, just boring. 3. Management needs to step back and allow the wait staff to do their job - which they are already good at without meddling hands interfering. Should the above be addressed, we might consider visiting Bruno's more often. read more

I started going here as a kid. Always loved it. I know running restaurants has gotten expensive due to COVID-19, but charging $24 for manicotti is way too much. The manicotti was my favorite by the way, and they just recently changed it in order to make it cheaper. It was a bad move. A lot of things at this place have changed, and not for the better. Bruno's has been a dining staple of Indiana for...well...probably long before I moved here or was even born. Dining in the wine cellar is the best way to go - nice romantic atmosphere. We had steak, lasagna and spaghetti. First, the size of the steak somewhat disappointing, and the spaghetti that came with it uneatable. Bruno's has been a staple of Indiana. Mezzo Mezzo, Manicotti and Lasagne are great. Red sauce has a bit of a sweet taste to it which we love. Having a Christmas dinner, reserved a table for 20, they only had a table for 14 they had to rush people out of another table so they could use it for the rest of our party. When we got our food some of it was cold, sent the food back and one person didn't get their food back until most at the table was done eating. When they got it back it had been microwaved so much that the stuffed flounder was dry and crunchy. Another person ordered shrimp and French fries they got there shrimp and was told there fries would be out in a minute, well they didn't get their fries until after they had finished their shrimp. So I stop on Bruno's 2 about 4 times a year. Grab lunch and a beer. I have always enjoyed this until today. I order a tossed salad and when it was set in front of me I immediately noticed that there were brown edges on the lettuce and some wilt. The tomato was not even close to being ripe and it was tasteless. I ordered a sandwich to go with the salad and although tasty, I could not tell if that was a sandwich roll or a hotdog bun called into service. The bun was either over toasted or stale because it basically fell apart. The good news is the beer is cold and the help very pleasant and friendly. 5 stars service, one star food. Ordered shrimp alfredo and it was really awful. The shrimp and the pasta both were over cooked and the alfredo sauce was truly off putting since it smelled and tasted like eggnog. It was probably bad enough that the sauce was heavily flavored with nutmeg but it appeared that the shrimp had been dusted with nutmeg. Nutmeg. Not a flavor I want with shrimp. The sauce did not seem to have any parmesan or garlic in it, but it had lots and lots of nutmeg. All in all a strange flavor profile that I hope to never repeat. The strangely flavored entree was followed by a slice of almond cake that tasted of mildew. Not my best meal. One saving grace was the service. Our waitress was very nice. This is a nice Italian restaurant in Indiana. Parking is a bit complicated if you haven't gone before (it's in the back). The place is a little dated but the service and food is pretty good. We ate at Bruno's a few months ago and it was just so so but it was a weekday And thought maybe they did not have the best Cook on that day. So we decided to try it out again on a Saturday thinking they would have the better cook on a Saturday night. My husband and son wanted steak so the waitress recommended the ribeye and spaghetti dinner said it was their best steak and she recommended we try the chicken fettuccine Alfredo I'm sorry to say that if the ribeye and spaghetti dinner was the best steak they don't know what steak is the steak was very very thin I bet not even a quarter of an inch it had no flavor and was overcooked we send it back for a medium done steak and it was still just as bad with no flavor The chicken Alfredo was all right but the noodles were mushy we will NOT be going back and it was a shame that we had to pay $75 for this type of food read more

Horrendous service. Waiter was disinterested in actual service, while focused primarily on complaining about a small tip received and his need for money. Quite literally threw napkins in the middle of our table. Food was subpar, really underwhelmed for a place previously known for serviceable Italian food. Had an excellent experience a few days before Christmas with Bruno's. We wanted to provide our daughter-in-law a birthday dinner so she wouldn't have to cook,& due to current circumstances, we weren't able to gather. Her bday happened to fall on a Monday this year, the weekday that Bruno's is usually closed, with the exception of a specific takeout special. I spoke with Joe, who understood & agreed to fix their dinner anyway. All we had to do, was provide him with their order, (anything on the menu,) prior to the day of pickup & the time they requested him to have it available. What a great service!! The order was perfect, which included an appetizer, individual entrees with sides, & dinners for 3 small children. The food was very good, (my son says it always has been when the've dined here,) the price very reasonable & our daughter-in-law was thrilled, as were we. Can't thank you enough, Joe, & we will certainly stop in for dinner & hopefully, to meet you in person, when this awful pandemic is over! Can't read more

For supposedly being under new management, I'm disappointed. The only good thing was the Italian sausage, but sadly it's not enough. The sauce had no flavor, no seasoning. Tasted like canned tomato soup, to be exact. The meatballs were definitely frozen, bland, and the consistency of mush. My first time there. I asked from the start if the portions were adequate. The waitress said yes and it may be hard to finish. I ordered the grilled chicken with spaghetti. I should have told the waitress to take the order back. It was a kiddie portion. 5 ounces of chicken and a very small bowl of spagetti. It was embarrasing. Go someplace else.
