Patio or indoors? That's a hard decision, but when the weather is nice, you have both options to choose from here at Donkey Tails Cantina. If you want to sit outdoors the entrance is closer to State Street. The main door takes you to the dining room. The food is terrific and the service was fast and attentive. I went here this week on a date & it was so good! Service was so quick both in taking our orders & we received our food quickly too. The salsa was a little spicy for me, but I loved the guacamole! I ordered cheese enchiladas, with flour tortillas, smothered in chile verde & they were probably one of the best enchiladas I've ever had! It was a combination of the flour tortillas, cheese blend, & sauce. My date had the sweet pork burrito & loved it! I tried the sweet pork & it had good flavor, not too sweet. Loved the vibes here. Very underwhelming Mexican styled food place. Stopped in a whim for an early dinner. Was very surprised to see the restaurant wasn't very busy, that was till we waited about 20 minutes just to receive water. From here the rest of the experience seemed to just be... okay. We each ordered the tacos and as a starter they provided us chips and salsa. The salsa was pretty good but the tacos were a little flavorless and could've had some more spice. The margaritas we ordered were okay, not much alcohol and could tell it was store bought mixer. Much better Mexican styled places in the area that I will be going back too. read more

This is mainly for the bar side. What's great about this place is their carne asada burritos and tacos. I swear it must have crack in it because it's so addicting. I've never tried crack, but if it's as good as their carne asada, I'd want it all the time. Also, I really dig how these guys have worked so hard during covid. They've been amazing. I went to Donkey Tails yesterday on 4/15/23 at 5:30 pm. I have always had a good experience here but last night was horrible. My wife had the two enchilada combo and everything on the plate was cold. I had the three asada taco plate. I do not know how they did this but the meat in my tacos was hot but the flour shell seemed like they had let it harden all day in the sun. The black beans came to me with melted cheese on them when I took a bite the entire portion of beans came up to my mouth in one solid blob. The beans where no longer any where close to hot. I tried a bite of rice it was also cold. I hope management will see this review and make a change with whoever was on the kitchen staff that night. I really like this place and am hopeful my next experience will be better. read more

We walked in and the Bar tender /Waiter was annoyed with our group size. We brought 12 friends for karaoke. B-lake was rude while we started our order for drinks. He was short tempered and slow to take our order for food. We have yet to order refills or get any food. But not impressed with anything yet. After we got a drink. The bartender SLAMMED the drinks onto the table ( more than once ) jittery , and snippy when we said we were rest to order food - he snapped at us DRINKS FIRST. I called the restaurant before we went there and asked to confirm they're a sports bar. The woman (Kimber) says we serve alcohol and we play all the football games here. I grew up with the privilege of living in San Antonio, Texas, which - let's be real - can't be beat when it comes to Tex-Mex cuisine. DTC is the second or third place I've been since moving to SLC, and it looks like I still have some searching to do. Although, I didn't get a chance to enjoy their bar, which seems like a great place to kick it with friends. That said, I'll be back for that at least. read more

WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE?? I can't believe we go out for drinks and food and literally every table surrounding us has someone sitting smoking a cigarette! I want to be able to meet friends and eat and drink without breathing and smelling constant smoke and then having to go home and shower and wash my hair because it reeks of cigarette smoke. Isn't this a state law? I'm not usually one for "by the book" but why do I have to breathe this disgusting exhaled nastiness into my lungs while I'm eating? They are open! Require masks to enter. Cute outdoor patio. Good drinks. Late night menu is pretty limited and not super great unless you need some drunk food, but open until 1am in the middle of the week is hard to find here in Utah. read more

This is not good Mexican food. Every day I drive by here thinking man I really want to try this place. Then one day we went in. We should have walked out. The place looks like it needs a good cleaning. The table was sticky, the decor and "roof tops" need to be dusted badly. So we both ordered raspberry iced tea. It was unusually thick and gross. Now the server was very friendly and sweet. But when I asked for a root beer she kept saying coke and I had to correct her multiple times. We both ordered al pastor tacos. She came back and said the cook said its cooked in and can't remove so I changed my order to an enchila meal. Our food came and the al pastor tacos were soupy. They don't know what al pastor tacos really are. The enchilada was not flavorful. The sauce tasted like it came out of a can. We asked for separate bills and we put our cards with our bills. The server charged the wrong meals to the the cards resulting in me paying for a meal priced higher than mine. The food does not have those flamboyant fresh flavors from Mexico and while the employees are nice and friendly they lack attention to details. read more

Ended up in this joint, not to shabby the service was good and the atmosphere was a bit to loud but they have an outside seating if you want something less loud. They have an after hours menu that is $4.99 on each plater. We got the chileverde fries and it was delicious. All in all a great place to go with friends if you got nothing to do on a Saturday night. Not only does he personally get to know his patrons, but he went above & beyond for Thanksgiving and helped me cook 2 of my 3 turkeys for my "Orphan Thanksgiving Dinner" for my newly widowed and single friends! Great little sports bar! They recently remodeled the outside/indoor patio area and it looks awesome! They have tv's, fireplaces, and garage doors that open up the inside to outside area. I went here on a date night and we shared the grande nacho and fish taco plate. It was a ton of food and very delicious. The service was good too! Downside... Is they allowed customers to Vape (vaporize cigarette) inside. Seriously... I was hoping the waiter would ask them to stop but he never did. I suppose I could have asked our waiter to say something. It took forever for her to even ask if we wanted drinks. Then the drink my husband took ages to arrive. Multiple people around us who arrived after us got their food before us. When the food did come out, the order was wrong. I ordered 4 tacos and only got 2. It was taco Tuesday, so I get they were busy, but when we told the server the error she said she's fix it and 20 minutes later she returned to say it'd be another 10 minutes. When you mess someone's order up, you fix it, not make them wait longer. All of that would have been okay if the food had been ok, but nope it's horrible.
