Cozy bar with plenty of drinks in their selection. This is the place to get a great Scotch egg and I finally recently tried their steak and ale pie. I saw some reviews said they're not so good but I disagree. It's a good balance of meat and veg with good flavor. I am really surprised by the reviews because our experience here was excellent! We were greeted quickly upon walking in and the vibe was great! It was mostly empty because it was 1:30 pm on a Friday afternoon. We chose to sit at the bar. I have wanted to eat here a long time because I had heard the fish and chips are so good, but unfortunately I wasn't that hungry so I ordered something smaller. I decided on a half order of the monte cristo sandwich and it was plenty with the pub chips! For me, a monte cristo is always somewhat reminiscent of a breakfast sandwich because the batter it is dipped in reminds me of waffles. If I could have added an egg I would have! It was perfection paired with the raspberry preserves. Their fry sauce has a slight spicy something to it. It was very filling and I was only able to eat half of my half order. The others in my group ordered the Crowd Pleaser (bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, cheese curds, wings, a sausage roll, and sauces) and a Reuben sandwich. I am told the corned beef was perfection. My daughter ordered a whole order of the monte cristo sandwich, but she didn't like it as much because she said hers was on the oily side. I have been here a few times now and it's a fun place to visit. Great range of drink and food options. I wouldn't really say it has a Scottish vibe but it's still worth going too. Staff are always great here and drink choices are plentiful. They have some good options s as well, such as scotch eggs as and sausage rolls and although not quite Scottish authentic they are still good options. Pricing and quality of all things here are fair and they have some outdoor seating too if that's your preference. read more

I was excited about the prospects of The Bruce, but was sorely disappointed after they messed up my order three times!!! Came in here for an early dinner with my husband before a concert at the Depot. They were not very crowded. My husband ordered a Corona non alcoholic and I ordered a pint of the Kilt Lifter. The beer was really good, but it was brought in a plastic cup that was definitely not a pint!! Didn't think too much of it until the table next to us that had a different server, was brought actual pint glasses.... My husband ordered the garlic burger with a veggie patty and his came out just fine. I ordered the veggie sandwich on sourdough, because you get a choice of bread. It was brought out on a hoagie bun. I sent it back, which is something I don't normally do, but I have digestive issues and sourdough works for me. After the sandwich was remade and I started eating, because I was starving, I realized they had left off the arugula/lettuce component of the sandwich...... Needless to say, this was not the best dining experience! I'm suspicious because only my food got messed up. I will say that the Kilt Lifter beer was good as were the fries and fry sauce. They did manage to leave the onions and cucumber off the sandwich which I had requested, but it seemed sparse since they forgot the arugula/salad. Come to find out after the fact that we were charged for the "pint" of beer. Sadly enough I don't think we'd eat here again unless there were no other options or we were with other people who really wanted to eat here....... read more

These might be the best fries I've had in Salt Lake City! We went on "two dollar taco Tuesday" and I had a delicious beef taco. My husband had the garlic burger and it was so good. Finally, the Scottish pub beer is a solid one to try --unique to the location: It's called the Bruce pub ale. A little bit short staffed, given the movie theater next door is deeply discounted. Falls short of Scottish Pub standards. This is a sports bar with a Scottish name. Steak and Ale pie was piping hot, and flavorless. Frozen peas and carrots, unseasoned meat, exceptionally bland. It was dead on a Monday afternoon, I was the only patron for a late lunch. I had high hopes after seeing a great ad on Instagram, but in real life, it fell very flat. A $32 disappointment. read more

Checked this place out last week and overall it was a good experience, but the food definitely fell short; however, if you're looking for this place as just a local watering hole and come here mainly for drinks; I think you might enjoy it. I didn't try any of the alcohol, but the pool table and bar area looked cool! Food-wise, I had the sausage rolls as an appetizer (prob one of the best things on their menu!) and the steak salad. I'd skip the steak salad next time. At sub $15, it was a good price point, but the steak was just ok and the greens were a little wilted. I did get to try a little bit of their fish fry - and I'd probably get that. The meat/fish pies were just ok and a little too watery for my taste. All in all, for bar: yes - for food - a-ok, but until they tune their menu up; you might be better seeking elsewhere. I saw a catchy video on social media about this place that made me want to check it out. Influencers are effective, that's for sure! When I found myself in the area recently, I stopped by for lunch with a couple new friends-and the experience was just ok overall. We were greeted by a staff member who checked our IDs and seated us at a table. She was quick to point out which menu items she would NOT recommend, which felt a little odd. I appreciate the honesty, but it didn't paint the restaurant in a good light to lead with her chin like that. I ordered the fish and chips, upon her recommendation and it was delicious. My dining partners each got different things-one had a steak salad that I hear was ok and the other got a personal pot pie that she was not pleased with. It was very runny and the ingredients didn't live up to her expectations. I think there's potential here, as they continue to settle in to their branding and define who they are. (I saw a reference to 'Bout Time, their predecessor on the window decal-might want to replace that.) read more

My wife and I came in with high expectations and unfortunately, those expectations were not met. I got the fried pickles, which actually were pretty good. My main dish was the Cottage Pie, which was almost all meat with very little potato making it very heavy. Taste was just ok. My wife had the Tattie Drottle soup, which was essentially water and some vegetables. Pretty much inedible. All in all, pretty disappointing and we won't be returning. read more

We came here before Franz Ferdinand played at the Grand @ The Complex. We ordered the Highland Poutine and Bangers & Mash. I only ordered a Proper Noon Tea (peach spiked iced tea), since I didn't think I could finish all the food. Service was solid and the place was clean. I always judge the restroom at pubs/bars, but this one was clean! The gravy on the poutine was a bit salty and the veal sausage had a strong pepper flavor. For pub food, this place knocked it out of the park. Located at the Gateway in downtown SLC, you're at the center of everything. I think it use to be the Bout Time pub. Outside patios or inside, you are surrounded by the beehive of entertainment venues, restaurants, stadium, parks, etc. We got there early so it was light but 15 min and it filled up pretty fast. read more

My brother flew into SLC from Georgia and after checking out the Christmas lights downtown, we intentionally went over and walked up to The Bruce on the upper level of the Gateway, south end. Yes, we had trouble locating the place...as we never saw anything that said "upper level"...but we did find it in the end. We honestly were really hoping for more of a genuine Scottish Pub experience--more wood, taller-back booths, and more Scottish music playing--but no. It was nothing more than a sports bar (yes, a former 'Bout Time Sports bar)...with a few Scottish decorations, a number of Scottish pub food items on the menu, and maybe two "Scottish-like" beers on tap. A bartender wearing a NY Yankees baseball cap waited on us and did a pretty good job. The place has a number of tall high-boy tables with seating for three, and that is what we grabbed (I sure wish there were some cozy booths...) AFTER we showed our ID cards (were 65, 64, and 63)...hmmmm...welcome to Utah. After looking over the menu, we ordered: My wife ordered the Turkey Avocado sandwich on a toasted bun, my brother had the Sausage Rolls, and I had the Bangers and Mash. We started with the Celtic Nachos...but the wait staff and kitchen here apparently do not understand that you bring the appetizers out BEFORE the dinners...but, nope. They didn't. Everything arrived at once. Hello, Management? Bueller? My bother had the Kilt-lifter on draught, and I had the "Scottish Mists" (or something like that)...unfiltered, on draught. Which, for an unfiltered beer (which normally I hate), was pretty damn good. All the food was good tasting and portion size was nicely done. The bangers were tasty, and the heap-o-peas was a nice touch. The best part were the Celtic Nachos...covered in cheese, green onions, and sour cream (didn't see much Ranch dressing though.) Their "pub chips" were de-lish and very unique. Nicely done. We took the remaining Celtic Nachos and the Sausage Rolls home in hinged-lid containers and had them the next day. Yum. So, overall...Four Stars for a nice experience, good food, and proper service. Warm the place up a bit with some Scottish music and a few cozy booths, put some European Rugby matches on the flat screens, add "Robert the Bruce" ale (3 Floyds Brewing Co.) to your on-draught offerings, and you'll earn your fifth star from me. read more

This is one of my favorite bars in SLC. The foods tasty and the drinks are decently priced. The atmosphere isn't really my vibe but it's close to home and all of the staff made me feel so welcome when I moved to Utah from Texas. Honestly my only friends are from the people I've met here. I love Ellen, Selah, Alli, Jordan and Justin so much. They really give this place life. I solely come in on nights I know they are working just to see them. read more

I told my wife to leave a smaller tip, but she left zero due to our service being on her phone the whole time and waiting multiple time for her to come back for to order. Caution!!!....when you pay by credit card, the default tip is 30%!!!! I commented to the waiter that 30% is excessive. He laughed and replied "I like it". IMO that is taking advantage of people's trust. Food was, at best, decent. Service was awful. Waiter was very distracted, forgot drinks, napkins, utensils, condiments and literally everything. We had to ask for everything at lease twice. Take my advice and don't bother going here. read more

My husband and I came here for a date night and decided last minute to stop in. We came in around 5pm and there were only two workers but not many people (one big group). It took them a while to take our IDs and honestly once they did and we got seated we started looking for somewhere else to go when our waiter brought us menus. We ultimately decided to stay because their menu looked good! We ordered food and drinks at once and our waiter brought our drinks almost instantly. The food was also out super quick and it was super good!! We ordered the fried pickles, a Ruben sandwich and the burger that comes with an egg, I forgot the name. 10/10 good food. I went there about 530 Saturday evening. They were fully staffed, especially for how busy it was. Was able to sit down quickly. The service was decent. Start off with drinks first two drinks we ordered they were out of. One happened to be Guinness. The other they were out of ingredients. Ordered an appetizer stadium stadium pretzel ordered fish and chips. Fish was old. Ordered the Highland hoagie which was roast beef and corn beef on sourdough bun was decent a little dry didn't give me enough gravy They do not validate their parking overall was a decent experience. Well this place was very high on my have to try list. Very underwhelming from a food perspective, service was slow but only one bartender/ server with a manager that didn't seem very helpful until towards the end when I was ready to leave. There were about 16 people in the place. I ordered the Celtic nachos which was the days special the corn beef on top was cold and over all a poor dish. Served in a paper lined basket cheese sticks to the paper and rips it not good eats. I noticed other food coming out that looked pretty good so I'll give them another go some other time. As I type this I over hear the bartender tell a customer it's his 2nd day so knowing that I'd give him alittle more slack. Was friendly and all just seems all over the place trying to cover things mostly alone. His name tag says Tayson. Next time in I'll try the wings or fish and chips.
