This restaurant is a family run restaurant where the mother does the cooking, the father welcomes you and seats you and the daughter takes your order and provides the service. They are personable and friendly and the restaurant has both inside and outside seating. The outside is quaint but no real view and inside is very nice but small,a you hear the conversations of the next table. This restaurant is far from where we stayed and we took the supplied shuttle which was long because we picked up another couple. Everything was amazing at Bella Donna . If you are in the area this is the must go to restaurant in town! I had the blue fin tuna tartare, the truffle pasta, the sea bass and a pancetta for dinner ! Three of us ordered the sea bass with the white wine sauce and all absolutely loved every bite. My husband also ordered the squid ink pasta and loved that as well . The service was exceptional. This place was so cute. Me and my family ate here for dinner. The ambience was perfect, it was relaxing, they played instrumental music in the background and it really set the mood. Now to the best part the food. The appetizers were out of this world. I got the scallops they were AMAZING. For the 1st course, the pasta was chefs kiss. For the main dish I ordered the chicken and something ( I forget). The sauce was so flavorful. And for desert my whole family ordered the Panna Cotta it was sweet but not to sweet. We are staying just a five minute walk from Donna Rosa, but we agreed we would travel from the main beach without hesitation to come here. After visiting two times in one week we can confidently say this is the best meal we have had in Italy thus far. The restaurants raved about on TikTok near the main beach are overpriced and fair at best. Donna Rosa is family owned at operated. Donna Rosa herself, her sister and parents all work and or cook in the restaurant. Ingredients are sourced from the family farm. You are truly treated like family during your meal. Between the group of four we have now tried several appetizers, 8 of their pastas and main courses and nearly all the desserts. We were not disappointed by a single thing. In fact we are considering coming back for a third time. Pasta, meat and fish are all incredible. The service is exceptional and has a great family kitchen feel. The wine recommended by Donna Rosas father was amazing. All juices used to make cocktails are freshly pressed per drink ordered. The ambiance - I think I read somewhere that this restaurant used to be a home and it sure feels like it. Warm, cozy, relaxing and simple, no glitz and glam but still nice. Service - on point! Owners welcome you as if it's their home, and treat guests like family. Very professional yet very warm. Food - oh where do I start?! I can't explain in words how incredible the food is to the taste buds. We started with the burrata and while we had burrata for basically every meal in Positano, theirs was on a different level of unbelievable! The tomato and cheese married into this perfect flavor! I tried one ravioli and my husband the other and it was the best two Italian dishes we've had. And I'm not even a ravioli girl. One was filled with cheese and topped with tomato sauce and the other has eggplants and cherry tomatoes. You can't go wrong with either. We were truly disappointed after reading so many positive reviews of Donna Rosa. From everything we read and heard we were led to believe that at Donna Rosa, mother and daughter cooked together using old family recipes. While that is difficult to verify, what is very clear is that no one in that kitchen has any culinary training. The restaurant was deserted (in peak tourist season). The fact that there were no locals eating there should have been a tip-off that something was wrong. Another couple seated near us ate their first course and promptly left before the main course, we should have done the same thing. My wife ordered fried calamari to start and it was tasteless. My eggplant rolatini was fine, just fine. My wife ordered the zucchini ravioli for her main course. It was gummy and tasteless. I ordered the fish which had no taste except for an overpowering onion sauce. As you can see from my other reviews, I always try to be fair and objective but I need to warn others that Donna Rosa is not what it once was and that with so many wonderful restaurants in Positano, this is a restaurant to be avoided. By the way, although Donna Rosa is high up the mountain in Positano there is no view. The terrace overlooks the road and a parking area so there are a lot of noise and diesel fumes. read more

A truly chef driven restaurant. The service tonight was wonderfully attentive, world class and made my family of four feel welcome from the minute we walked in. I am surprised that there were only three reviews but realized that this might be a result of locals who already know this is a great restaurant and/or tourists in Positano who do not venture to the mountainside of Montepetruso. Worth the trip up by cab. Opens at six if you wish to dine early as we do. Top shelf liquors and wonderful cocktails all professionally prepared. The food was fantastic and some of the best I have had in 30 years of travel to Italy. The kitchen is part of the dining experience and we enjoyed the chance to see our dinners prepared. Hard to get more personal than when the chef greats you with a smile. Highly recommend the scallops appetizer served on it's shell with a bread crumb coating. I could, should, (and might) write a love letter to Erika, Rosida, and 'Mama' at Donna Rosa. This family-run gem tucked into the beautiful hills of the Amalfi Coast is a treasure. So much so, that even the likes of Ina Garten and Jamie Olive are devoted fans and patrons. We had the distinct pleasure of enjoying a private cooking class here on our honeymoon, with the wonderful women behind this incredible restaurant. Not only did we feel like we were at home with family, (in a professional kitchen, with staff to make messes magically disappear) but we learned so much and ate even more. Our expectations were blown away and we still rave and reminisce to this day. Our class included the likes of real-deal braciola (Mario Batali doesn't know jack), eggplant rollatini, Donna Rosa's classic tiramisu, chicken marsala, plus a pasta making class with tagliatelle in a beautiful bolognese and bowties with fresh-from-the-garden zucchini. The fun and food piled up all morning and afternoon--for example, we learned that the BEST way to sample tiramisu cream is with a fresh cornetto (If you haven't discovered these yet, please do so). We also learned that Italian hospitality cannot be beaten. Espresso, coffee, wine, snacks and more were repeatedly offered and enjoyed. After we finished having fun in their kitchen, we got to enjoy the fruits of our labors in the dining room, at a table with a beautiful view. If the restaurant hadn't felt like home at that point, it might have felt odd being the only diners in this famed and storied home of epically delicious Italian classics. However, with Rosida gracefully presenting each dish (that we actually got to make) and pouring us more and more excellent wine to accompany the courses...it was too perfect. We finished our day with limoncello, a gift from our new friends, and an gmail inbox full of all the recipes. Talk about souvenirs. Now we can relive that fun any day in the kitchen with homemade pasta, fresh bolognese, and classic Italian music. If you're looking for an extraordinary meal or experience, and are lucky enough to be in Positano, do yourself a favor and put yourself in the hands of these wonderful women! This is my favorite restaurant in the world. It's hard to say what's better, the food or the service. Absolutely the most amazing dining experience I've ever had. There are no bad selections on the menu. Its hard to pick a favorite since it is all so good. The service was amazing, we even got to take pictures with "Mom" and the rest of the family at the end of the night. I cannot recommend this place enough, and I would give it 100 stars if I could. My husband and I took the cab ride out of Positano to eat here based on a recommendation and was soooo happy we did! It was one of the best meals we had while in Italy. Family run restaurant, the daughter of Donna Rosa served us and throughout the meal, other family members made sure out water and wine glasses were filled and emtpy plates were taken away. The restaurant itself is beautiful as well, feels very cozy, but not cozy in the way some family run establishments are in Italy where they cram you in a table with a bunch of people you don't know. Absolutely amazing!! If you are in Positano this is a must!! By far the best meal you will eat here! We started with the Calamari, which was the best I've ever had. Then for the entrees my husband had the brasciole which was melt in your mouth, I am not a big fan of brasciole but this was outstanding. I got the black and white pasta that was filled with seafood and delicious! Now the best part, dessert my husband got the chocolate lava cake and I got the panna cotta. Donna Rosa is a family run restaurant in Positano Italy and not only has great food, but fantastic service. Three generations work at this restaurant and as one of them said to me, "this is our home and we welcome everyone into it". The stand-out dish for me was the veal with mozzarella and a rich tomato sauce. The veal was fork tender. Also worth noting was the fresh tomato and buffalo mozzarella appetizer and the cheese and spinach ravioli - which consisted of 3 jumbo ravioli. My only complaint was that the ravioli was a little overcooked and I had just enjoyed a similar ravioli in Rome that was better. This restaurant has an interesting clientele -- upscale and dressed nicely - definitely not a flip flop and shorts place like many of the restaurants in central Positano. One thing to note about Donna Rosa is that you will require a car service or taxi to get there since it is very high up in the mountain above the town. Lastly, the head chef at Donna Rosa has worked for Jamie Oliver who frequents the restaurant when he is in Positano. read more

Best meal we had in Italy. Family owned and operated across a couple of generations. Homestyle Italian cooking just like grandma would make (especially if she perfected every recipe). Every element of the meal from apps to main to wine to dessert were outstanding. Pastas are the star here, but the seafood (particularly the apps) is outstanding as well. The setting, the people and the food will not disappoint. We hiked from positano on the trail today and dinner was heavenly.
