I tried. 3 visits and I won't be back. First cut was okay, nothing special. The last two I was nicked both times by shaky hands and the haircut was subpar. In fact this last one was so bad I'm going to be two months growing it back out to a point where it can be cut again and corrected and I had to spend 20mins when I got home just fixing the fade lines myself in the mirror. Look, it's an old-school place and that's cool. First come first serve, cash only... but unless you're looking for a high and tight, buzz, or crew cut, seek out someplace else. Nobody knew Dons Was so popular, Of course none of us have had a haircut in months. Better worth the wait and it's a quality haircut I'm happy. It always amazes me that you can go into a Barber shop and talk world affairs I never talk politics or religion because just in case his point of view isn't the same I wanna have some hair on my head. Using my GPS it took me past the barber shop and out onto Rivers Ave, but the entrance is actually off N.A.D.Rd; so be careful if you are not familiar with the error. Anyway, Don's offers great haircuts for $18. The haircuts are old school with hot lather and straight razor finish on the next and ears. Summary: Had a great experience! Very classic barber shop feel. Had to wait about 20-25 minutes to get a hair cut at about 10 AM on Monday morning. The price of the hair cut is $17, which I didn't care for. Staff: Great staff! Very friendly and welcoming to new comers and regulars alike. I was told "Welcome to the family!" by Amy. It's nice to have that sort of hospitality when you go to a barber shop for the first time. Time: Word of warning, set aside at least an hour before you go. Had to wait about 20-25 minutes to get a hair cut at about 10 AM on Monday morning. I sat down with the hair stylist Amy (who told me she works Sun-Wed) and another two gentlemen were waiting exclusively for her within 5 minutes. Hair cut: I'm use to a simple 4 guide on the sides and 6 guide on the top. As the hair on the top of my head grows out, I like to comb my bangs and top of my hair mainly to my right. Amy recommended with this practice, I should try 4 on the sides and 5,6,7 layered up to the top front of my head. Having little care about my hair in the past, I nodded and said sure. In the end, I love it! I dislike that standard fresh cut look I was used to being ok with in the past. But with the styling she recommended, it looks much nicer and natural. Plus, they do this one process I'm unaccustomed to - they put shaving cream below the your neck hairline on your neck and straight razor shave to finish up the back of your neck. Price: Can't really find a good haircut for less than $17 nowadays. I know that's the minimum at Sports Clips (where I regularly go), but at Don's you really are getting your moneys-worth of experience and expertise. Conclusion: Give them a try. I'll give this place 4 stars out of 5 because "Yay! I'm a fan" and not 5 out of 5 because I can't be sure if this is "As good as it gets!" I'll say that the $17 price tag insures against a bad-looking haircut, compared to some places that charge $9 or $10 for a simple crew cut and have little experience with anything but (due to the number of military bases nearby). Overall, with a rewarding experience as a first time guest, I'll be returning to Don's Barber Shop in the future. read more

I recently relocated from New Jersey (the land of high taxes and expensive everything). I asked my neighbors for barber recommendations and they all proved to be SO SO. Checked on line and found Don's that was local to Goose Creek and had a good rating. Not sure what weekday I was there, but I only had to wait 5-10 minutes. Well I used to go to Williams in goose creek and the only one I would let touch my hair was William. However he passed away God bless him and I let three of his other barbers cut my hair. I came out looking like give which is fine if I was give but I'm just a regular guy.the next personhad me leaning my head to the right and the next accidentally ran the trimmers up the back of my head while talking on the phone with no guard on the trimmers. I spent the next year letting my hair grow looking for a true barber shop. My wife threatened to divorce me if I didn't get a hair cut. So one day she was doing the groceries and she saw dons. She pulled up and took me in and told the barbers not to let me leave without a good cut. I saw the putting green on the floor and the big screen tvs and the guys made the place feel like I was welcome. Like they had known me forever. The cut was perfect and the price of $20.00 plus tip can't be beat especially in this economy. The lady barber ain't just eye candy either. She knows her business.
