Insufferable bartender. Backwards hat, long brown beard, short temper. We ordered a round of pickle shots for a birthday. After paying, we realized the birthday person doesn't like pickles. I asked the bartender if I could order another shot for him instead. The response was, "Yeah, you order a shot and then pay for it, that's how it works" (after overhearing me explain to my friend 'it's your birthday, we can always ask for a different shot and i'll buy it!) in a sarcastic condescending tone (after me, being polite in asking for another shot) as if we were trying to get something for free or wasn't going to pay. I was ordering another shot to PAY, it was a simple request. The interaction felt unnecessarily dismissive and put a weird tone on what was supposed to be a fun birthday moment. read more

Visited Don's, crowd was gorgeous, fun space. I am physically disabled. Hearing +visually impaired. Peter the doorman was wonderful! Helped me out with kindly answering any of my questions. ambiance solid. I approached the bar, and after nearly 10 minutes of all the men bartenders not even acknowledging myself or any other paying customers, I leaned over said "aye," smiled. Elderly bartender with a long grey beard, manbun became enraged. Hostile bartender lost his temper, attempted to chastise and personally degrade me for, "Yelling towards him while his back was turned." I apologized kindly, said I wasn't trying to make his night worse, or uncomfortable. Bartender then paused service. Un for nearly 5 minutes, after apologies. Bartender shouted about how I acted as if I had never been to a bar, and reiterated at least 15 times the phrase, "THAT IS NOT HOW YOU ORDER AT ANY BAR. I AM TEACHING YOU BAR ETIQUETTE, BECAUSE YOU NEVER SPEAK TO ANY BARTENDER LIKE THAT. YOU NEVER RAISE YOUR VOICE NEAR ME. I AM REPEATING BECAUSE YOU NEED TO LEARN BAR ETIQUETTE." My first time ordering a shot for myself. I explained that I heard and understand his point of view. Hostile bartender repeated the phrase about 10 more times, as he looked misty eyed. I had to say, "THANK YOU. Now may I remain in your establishment, and purchase a drink?" Disgruntled and verbally abusive bartender, 4 hours later AT CLOSING, sat near exit, Man HAD ANOTHER EMOTIONAL BREAKDOWN AND THEN SHOUTED ABOUT ETIQUETTE. I shook his hand, and told him I am visually and hearing impaired. I apologized again as he appeared to really be experiencing ongoing emotionally distress. This bartender told me I need to take my required sunglasses off to order because I needed to actually make eye contact with him. How does one make any eye contact with a server who refuses to acknowledge or extend any semblance of hospitality to myself or others. It was my first night at a bar before my brain surgery in a few weeks. -wonderful and safe night overall. Same bartender said something along the lines of, "well yeah I saw the headphones and could tell there was something... that made you think you could use that volume." I have edema in my eyes. I cannot use my eyes without agony. I can't even sit in the dark without my prescribed sunglasses. I worked in food service and hospitality myself. This bartender reminded me of Plato's archetypal unkind server cooked up in the nightmares of Bar Rescue. Shout out to the women bartenders! Shout out to Peter. Very kind in helping me navigate the space physically while having a comfortable time that helped me feel so proud of myself. I was on a walker for months, and last evening brought joy and independence into my life again. That was my first night out in a decade. It was a joy!! :) We all have tough nights, but it seems locally, that too many who frequent Don's have experienced verbal abuse from this server. Life is hard. We all struggle, but there seems to be a pattern regarding the abjectly cruel, anti-social, and frankly inhospitable bartender who seems to be referenced endlessly in the 1 star reviews. It has clean and safe restrooms and felt LGBTQIA+ friendly. time of my life! Long live the Don's much love to all employees, even those who kick patrons out, verbally degrade them. I did not insult the elderly manbun, yet he had comments to say about MY horrifically insulting behavior. I cross checked the reviews all over and there is a pattern of hatred being spewed at visitors who are intoxicated on alcohol by that man behind the bar. I hope that aggressive man finds friends and community. That he has a place to express his disharmony with other human beings trying their best, rather than abusively escalating petty mistakes. We all need social support and therapy with a licensed clinician, and forming more fruitful coping skills. That man's mood behind the bar will take this beautiful space of life and wonderful neighbors, down with his horrific energy and vibes. May that man receive enhanced customer service training As a bar selling bottom shelf booze in plastic, not even glassware, there needs to be a kind discussion with that bartender to ensure he can do his job respectfully. We popped in to Don's for a quick drink with friends. Service was fast at the counter and the atmosphere very lively on a Saturday night. We all got pickle shots (which were surprisingly delicious) and beers. Prices were very reasonable. We were able to play some pool and hang out for a bit. Great local spot, will be back! read more

Today, we sit & wait for the rest of our neighborhood crew to join us. Went up to the bar to order some drinks. People came after me, but bartender just kept looking at me and going to other people. Finally, ask what I want. Then Giggles & says ok, I need to see an ID from buddy. Cool, I went back to my table and grabbed my ID for him. So what's the point of being carded at the door to get in of your going to card only selective people at the bar again. This guy did not card any of the six other people who just walked in the same time as us. The rest of our crew came in, didn't card any of them either. They rest of my group was irritated by his whole demeanor when they went to get drinks too. If yall don't like the color of money, let us know. We just paid our tab & left. Just an FYI, I normally start at 30% tip & go up. If you get the amount of tip relative to your service & treatment of others. Blows my mind that a neighborhood dive bar would have someone behind the bar like this. We're good. If ya want an ok dive bar, try this place out. Service is not too much to expect; the bar is low. Stopped by this place for a drink to wait off a dinner reservation waitlist. Overall, it's a pretty standard dive bar with a pretty nice sitting area out front with benches and cute dogs. They have skee-ball, pool, a golf arcade game, and a hunting arcade game. The pool table and cues were in good shape which is what we played and the other games seemed to be in good working condition as well. I have to take a star off though because the mixed drinks are on the more expensive side for a dive bar. When I asked about the price for a beer v.s. a mixed drink, the beer price made sense but the mixed drink price seemed high to me so I asked again and the bartender looked a little annoyed and replied with a quick "yeah". My boyfriend went to the restroom and while he was away, some old white dude decided to be a creep towards me. I asked him to leave me alone but he wouldn't. This bar isn't too bad. Cool place, great location and decently priced drinks. Why the three stars? Let me break it down for you... The bartenders are unfriendly and one in particular looked like he had bitter beer face mixed with RBF, and the attitude to go with it. There was about 15 of us in our group, and we were spending quite a bit of money in there, so I didn't really understand what the bartenders problem was. There were times where we literally stood at the bar to order drinks for 10+ minutes and the bartender would literally ignore us. Please keep in mind there were maybe 20 people total in the bar, and most of them were in my group. We'll probably give this place another shot in the future because it actually is a really cool bar, although if this same bartender is working, we'll take our business elsewhere. The staff was all super quick with the beverages and very nice. This bouncer shouts at us to get out and says "why aren't you moving'' and then literally stands next to us yelling at us to leave until we get to the door and it's 1:35. I've been a regular at this bar for years since I've lived very close to it. But my last experience was super unfortunate. A friend and I were being harassed by man at the bar while we were waiting to order a drink. We retaliated, which lead to us to being kicked out without concern of the staff for our reasoning. I will not be returning to this bar as I do not feel respected as a woman. This is unfortunate as Dons has been a regular bar for me for years. All the chatter about the vending machine... everything from frozen burritos to Trojan magnum condoms (hate to be in a time pinch with a date if the condom didnt dispense properly, Haha).
