I came here last night for the Quadzilla Zine release party and loved the vibe of this bar! It was way cuter than the pictures on Yelp show. I wish I would've thought to take pictures of the interior but, alas, I was living in the moment and enjoying myself too much! I guess you could call the spot a dive bar, but I felt like it was one or two notches above a dive bar. They have top shelf liquor for purchase, a good selection of beers, and specialty shots. I ordered a Tanqueray and 2 specialty shots and the total was just under $20. They had beers for $5 and they even had a PBR, shot of whiskey, and a random cigarette for $6. Lol There was also free popcorn! There were a lot of things to do including 2 pool tables, 2 dartboards, and the hook ring toss game that's super fun. The interior had neon signs from old gas stations, and re-purposed car seats for seating. It was definitely mechanic themed, but without all of the toxic masculinity. This is a cute vibe for rockabilly folks or queers. My favorite part was the music! It was a mid 2000s Indie vibe, with a couple retro/modern bangers thrown in. I hadn't heard the songs from Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette in decades and it brought me back. Overall a super cute place, great service, wonderful bartenders, and a great vibe! And just like that, Bannock Street Garage has become one of my favorite little dive bars in Denver! It's located right by my loft but has lots of free & easy street parking around. Great drinks, friendly staff, games, & patios... what more do you need?! It's one of the cleaner dive bars in Denver too... high ceilings with more windows & it's brighter than most. The back door is a big garage door (hence the name) and it's often open to let in a lot of fresh air & natural light! They have heaters on the patios in front & out back too. The head bartender (Ang) is sooo sweet, great memory & always so accommodating. They have a great selection of liquor & beer (bottle or draft) & the prices are always great too!! I love playing being able to play pool & darts so close to home in a bar that feels like a little home away from home :) All in all, Garage Bar is my new favorite spot in Denver... totally my style with things to do, great drinks, and most importnatly, amazingly sweet staff! read more

One thing I want to get out of the way: I see this place being called a "dive bar," but those reviews are fake (unless they are five stars; then they're real). There is no diving board in this bar, just smooth cold ones and delicious bevvies. Whenever I do a review of a bar, I try to live by my favorite quote about bars: "Alcohol is the anesthesia by which we endure the operation of life." - Ricky Martin (RIP) To me, this place lives up to that quote to a T. Not surprisingly, this place feels like you're in a garage. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's long and narrow with garage doors on both ends that they can open up to our lovely summer nights. There are plenty of tables for sitting and chatting, a Wii for playing games, a pool table, and even naked lady photohunt, one of my all time favorite bar games. The bartenders are efficient and nice although I'd say calling them friendly is taking it a step too far. And if you've had a little too much to drink they'll fire you up a pizza. Nothing gourmet, I think they are frozen, but when you've been drinking they are damn tasty. One bit of advice, watch out for the ring game or you may get hit in the head. read more

Sincerely the best spot in town & I would entirely contribute that to the fact that the staff is AMAZING. Sasha, a total queen & I owe a lot of my experiences here to her. She's a take no shit from no-one kind of human, but has a personality of gold and I couldn't imagine anyone else operating a bar in such a great light. I came to this bar with some coworkers at happy hour this week, and I will never go back. Sasha, the bartender, was the meanest person I've ever encountered in customer service. I've been bartending myself for 5 years and I can't comprehend her rudeness. On our first drink she was fine, not overly friendly, but no complaints. When we went back to the bar to grab a second drink, my friend got a beer which was $4.50, and she made the total $5.50 for a $1 tip. Sasha grabbed the receipt and looked at my friend and told her "don't even tip if that's all you're going to give, it's an insult at that point." She said it loudly and everyone at the bar turned and looked at her. My friend was sooo embarrassed and uncomfortable. I was shocked myself. I have never in my life seen a bartender reprimand a customer for giving her a 20% tip. I would get fired at my job for behaving that way. Can't recommend this bar unless you like being yelled at for tipping appropriately. read more

Something you probably don't know about me: I'm a sticker-carrying member of the No-Club Club, Denver Chapter. The Garage is the official happy hour meetup for all things No Club related. It's also been a meet up spot for a work happy hour and a tweetup. It's a pretty versatile bar. When the sun comes out in Denver and I want to hang out and drink on a patio, I head here. It's huge and the sun hits it just right. When it comes to beer selection, these guys definitely have it, especially when dive bar beers are concerned. They serve PBR, Olympia and Lonestar. The Holy Trinity of cheap, hipster beer. I highly recommend this place as a starting point for your evening. It's close to a umber of neighborhoods and a fun meeting spot. read more

Can I please just say that I love this place?!?! And! It's only 2 blocks away from my apartment...I can stumble home anytime I want. The bartender was super nice and the bathrooms are clean (I went on a school night so I'm not sure if they get seedier on the weekends). Those who know me know I love bar games...like LOVE bar games. With that said, they have pool, darts, some weird ring toss game, and photo hunt (wasn't operational when I was there). This is a cool little post. USed to be an auto repair shop and is now a watering hole. It still looks and feels like a repair shop which I like. There is a pool table and ring toss which I've never seen in a bar before. They also have bands play here from time-to-time. I forgot what an awesome Happy Hour spot this place is! Totally easy going, dark, cool, cheap and close to everything! I'm fo sho a fan :-) First, I would warn that this is a good place for Happy Hour but once the jack asses come out of hiding when the sun goes down watch out! This place has a tendency to get packed on the weekends and at night so beware of those times. Otherwise, this is a great place to toss back a few. The drink specials are awesome - especially the Billy Jack. PBR + shot of whiskey + a cigarette for $5. This is what a dive bar should offer! It ain't the smoothest shot nor is it a tasty smoke but if the price is right...There is also a great beer selection including cheap canned beer and plenty of local brews too. I have never once had a bad experience with the staff - they are usually chatty and quick with it. This is a bar - so if you piss them off or think they are at your beck and call then you've missed the mark. I love that this place is dark, even in the middle of the day. Plenty of crap on the walls, lots of games and even a cozy back patio make this bar a great place to hang out with friends. A great little bar! I went to Bannock St. Garage last night for the Onion's free beer event and was mildly shocked at how nice this bar is. It's a renovated garage, and the garage doors were open to let in the summer breeze. The place is uncommonly clean, with a really great vibe. Not full of too-hip people or lowlifes, but regular friendly folks. I met the owner, who was dressed in a wig and 80s rocker gear in order to host a Guitar Hero contest. Where the hell else can you go to see competitive Guitar Hero? I really dig this place, and I'll definitely be back. read more

I've been to the Garage on nights when it is PACKED. I've been to the Garage on nights when there are only 3 people in the place. But I've never had a bad time there. - The Staff are AWESOME! Major props to Sam and to Cody. - Great selection of drinks and beer. - In warm weather, the patio is great and the garage door is open. - Live music, when they have it, is a blast. If you're stuck at the clubs on Broadway and that's not your scene, walk over to Bannock. The only downside is the (lack of) food. But they are close to Rooster & Moon, which has tasty sandwiches, and Arby's, which has ...Arbys. Whatever. Go. Have a beer, play some ring toss, tip the staff, bike home. read more

I can't really put my finger on why I like this place, but I do! If I had to venture a guess it would be that I always have a good time here and the drinks are cheap. They have a nice dark dingy feel that always is good, and the location is a little on the odd side but is nice when you feel the need for a change. The patio is small, but fits the need. Typically good service, good company and a couple games gives me the good vibrations to put some back and enjoy myself. I like this place a lot! What a dope little dive bar and they have this ring game sort of the in seperating area of the immediate bar, and the back back with all the games that's stupid addicting. Ring, hook, and string....provides lots of drunken fun. Good mix of people, the staff is super friendly, and they WILL drink with you if you like your shots of whiskey. Have to say this is by far the worst bar ever! The staff is extremely rude. you can stand at the bar with cash in hand and the snobby bartender will walk right past you to flirt with a guy at the other end and completely ignore you. When you finally get service they slam your drink down like you're bothering them and over charge you. Any one other than a rich white yuppie will be completely ignored. They expect a big tip when you get poor service & treated like trash. Why would I give a tip when you don't get service. The bar is dark and dirty bathrooms smell like a sewer. The huge garage door in the back let's in all the pot & cigarette smoke. There is no food only burnt or still frozen pizza that you may or may not get because the snot of a bartender forgot you. They tip themselves, so you don't need to tip. I ordered $7 worth of drinks and my bill came out without an itemized reciept, but had a mysterious $10 credit card reciept asking for a tip. Unfortunatly I panic-tipped before I realized I was ripped off and the bartender grabbed the tab before I could correct the mistake. She made an extra $3 tonight, but I'll never go back and will actively discourage my friends and neighbors from going due to their lack of transparancy and predisposition to overcharging new-comers. If you're a local alcoholic, they probably give you a lot of freebies from the suckers they overcharge, so if it is going to be your 'every night' bar, then it might be better. As an average Joe who doesn't know everyone in and behind the bar, it's bad, so adjust your expectations and pay in cash. Good luck! read more

How do you spell Bannock Street Garage? D-I-V-E B-A-R. But an awesome one. Super small place, just one pool table and a few high tops and a few booths along with the bar. But the stage fits some loud and crazy bands that play some intense blues and modern jazz, and they also have a kitchen. Relatively cheap beer and liquor, and the crowd isn't anywhere near pretentious. How un-pretentious? Their most popular game is a ring on a string that you try and hook onto a, well, hook about 10 feet away. The free popcorn is a nice perk as well. The back entrance (or as my friend calls it - the only entrance) is in the alley between Bannock and Cherokee, which is pretty sketchy but also pretty bad ass. The Garage is a good time. Drinks are reasonably priced, the clientele is pretty chill and it's got a fair amount of games around for entertainment. Pool tables and darts in the back and a fun ring game where you try to throw a ring on a string around a hook that is screwed into a pole next to the jukebox. It was a lot of fun, until some asshole who has clearly played one too many times came over and hooked it like 4 times in a row. It was humbling, to say the least. I totally lost my mojo after that and haven't been able to show my face since then. Thanks, jerk. The only negative is that I wouldn't necessarily just go here just to go to The Garage. I've been to Bannock Street Garage, or as my friends and I call it just "Garage Bar", on a handful of occasions. Just go once and you'll see. The joint is definitely a regulars' bar with friendly bartenders and a cool atmosphere. I dig that they kept the place looking as similar to a bar as possible. Myself, I could see so much done to make the vast space incredible, but then that would take away from its draw and I guess the "garage" theme. From the "ring/hook" game (not sure what it's formally called) to ping pong, pool, darts, a tiny music stage, as well as a projector airing live sports, this place is perfect for some competitive bar games with friends, checking out some local live music, watching live sports, or just having a couple drinks. Don't forget about the Bill Jack special, well I guess isn't special if it runs all the time, which consists of a PBR, a shot of well whiskey, and a cigarette. Even though I don't smoke, I think the cigarette is a cool gimmick for those that do, that also compliments an array of alcohol for only $5. This is certainly a place I could see myself, and have seen myself, spending entire afternoons or late evenings just playing the "ring/hook" game alone.
